In this thread, we discuss NFE pokemon, how shitty they are, and their impact on the current NU meta. This thread is a great place to bring a new, uncommon NFE pokemon like Bayleef or Clefairy to the spotlight or to just discuss how already popular NFEs like Combusken or Gurdurr can manipulate current NU.

Example post:

Tyrone (Pawniard) @ Eviolite
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 140 HP / 252 Atk / 116 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance

Why it isn't a Magikarp:
Pawniard, despite its low LC tier stats, finds a niche in NU as a Defiant Defog blocker and Sticky Web counter. It also functions as a priority sweeper with Sucker Punch + Swords Dance. Pawniard is also a good check to Intimidate abusers suck as Qwilfish, Arbok, and Granbull.

if you see your pokemon here already, don't be afraid to suggest an alternate set
Sneasel @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe (my usually spread) or 252 Atk / 4 D / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature (what I use) or Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Pursuit
- Ice Shard
- Poison Jab/Swords Dance/Low Kick/ Ice punch

Why it isn't a Feebas: Sneasel, despite piss poor defenses, has arguably the 2 best attacking STABs in the tier in ice and dark. With the strongest (I believe) knock off in the tier, as well as ultra high speed, allows it to fire off quick and hard hitting knock offs that are not resisted by much in the tier barring slurpuff granbull and gurdurr. Pursuit is there to ensure a kill on a poke and preventing it from switching. Ice shard is a very powerful priority move that scares pokes like shiftry and archeops. Last move is depending on team needs, poison jab prevents belly drum sets from slurpuff to work, and poison jab and ice shard should kill slurpuff set ( unless max defensive and cotton guard, but w/e, can knock off the chesto berry). low kick to finish off mons that would not be taken down by 2 knock offs, though ice punch usually does the job there. SD for maximum sweeping capacities. IMO this was better in sigilyph meta but still works

Frogadier @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 SpA/252 Spe/4 Def
Nature: Timid
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Dark Pulse/Grass Knot
- Hidden Power Fire/U-Turn

Why it isn't a Magikarp: While its Special Attack doesn't seem amazing and its bulk is poor(to say the least), Frogadier's ability Protean is what makes it stand out from the crowd of Special Water-type mons in OU - with STAB on every coverage move its running, Frogadier can KO a lot of mons and in essence offers 4 types in one (depending on the coverage you run). At Base 97 Speed, it outspeeds all the Base 95s, allowing it to late-game clean most of the tier.
In terms of support, Frogadier appreciates two types of support - Sticky Web, which allows it to get the jump on Typhlosion, Pyroar and other faster mons in the tier, allowing it to KO them too with Hydro Pump. Another type of support that can work well with Frogadier is Spikes/Stealth Rock, which allows Frogadier to KO mons easier. It also appreciates a physical attacker in the core to support it, examples being Zangoose and Kangaskhan among the multiple options available.

Magmar @ Eviolite
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 200 HP / 252 SpA / 56 Spe
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Why it isn't a Magikarp: Magmars bulk when holding an eviolite is what sets it apart from other NFE's. Magmar has a very useful ability that prevents it from being put to sleep, and a fantastic movepool. It's able to take advantage of many of its moves thanks to its respectable base 95Atk and base 100SpA. Magmar is able to function as a bulky offensive threat and serves as a great check to Magmortar (hue), Typhlosion, Jynx, Ninetales, the tiers Grass-type Pokemon, and more. Since it has a Stealth Rock weakness it would be wise to couple Magmar with a Pokemon that can pass it Wishes; Lickilicky would be a perfect teammate for Magmar because of its ability to pass huge Wishes. Magmar's bulk is what really sets it apart from its evolution so if you have no intentions of taking advantage of it's eviolite-boosted defenses then go with Magmortar.

Togetic @ Eviolite
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Seismic Toss / Dazzling Gleam
- Heal Bell / Flamethrower

or

Togetic @ Eviolite
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Dazzling Gleam
- Nasty Plot
- Baton Pass

Why it isn't a Cubchoo: While a bit lacking in offensive presence and thus "forced" to run Seismic Toss (you can run Dazzling Gleam to better deal with Gurdurr i guess) Togetic is the bulkiest Defog user (and cleric) in the Neverused tier. Its amazing typing gives it a 4x resistance to Fighting and Bug and an immunity to Ground and Dragon that makes it pretty easy to switch in against top tier threats like Spiritomb and Shiftry (Knock Off is a thing, i know, but Togetic is still pretty fat without Eviolite if needed) and remove entry hazards or heal your team. It also has Flamethrower to hit Defiant users such as Pawniard and Roast hazards setter like Ferroseed and Steelix if you are into that. It can also reliably Baton Pass Nasty Plot and thanks to its low speed stat it can get a clean pass without the receiver taking any damage.
Frisky? Oh, goodness.

Gurdurr @ Eviolite
Ability: Guts
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Mach Punch
- Bulk Up / Poison Jab

Why it doesn't suck: Gurdurr, unlike other physical attackers, isn't severely weakened by burns. On the contrary, Gurdurr, enjoys being hit with status. It has the ability to survive through many attacks with its incredible bulk, amplified by Eviolite, and its health is easily refilled by Drain Punch. A newly-buffed Knock Off gives it a way to finally get around Ghost- and Psychic-types, and Poison Jab can even help it get around Slurpuff.

Kajun Spicy Chicken (Combusken) @ Eviolite
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Def / 104 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Protect
- Swords Dance
- Fire Punch
- Baton Pass

Why it isn't a Feebas: This set is basically to compliment an offensive core like Feraligatr/Kangaskhan. The swords dance+speed boost combo with baton pass allows you to easily set up a sweep, especially as this thing can take a few STAB SE's because of the eviolite. Running fire punch over flare blitz is kind of important because you want to be able to stack as many boosts as possible to pass or sweep with, flare blitz would limit your time to boost because of the recoil damage.

This thing is pretty common on the NU ladder and so impacts the meta quite hard with its baton pass sweep shenanigans.

The 104 Ev's in speed allow it to out speed Slurpuff with no investments before Unburden, so you can safely baton pass out into something that can take a hit, or kill it after it sets up a CM.

Angry Ape (Vigoroth) @ Eviolite
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 212 HP / 252 SpD / 44 Spe
Careful Nature
- Bulk Up / Toxic
- Slack Off
- Return
- Taunt / Sucker Punch / Shadow Claw / Brick Break / [Filler]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why this isn't Dunsparce: Vigoroth has always been a rather underrated threat. With an immunity to Ghost and an immunity to Sleep, this pokemon can catch a lot of people off guard, especially as a Sleep Absorber and a stop to most ghost setup pokemon, such as Mismagius. Without investment, its defense is rather decent, and it has access to reliable recovery in the form of Slack Off. Unlike Slaking, it can move every turn, and its defense and attack get it to monstrous levels. It hates status with a vengeance, so support is helpful in its sweep. The Speed EVs are to outspeed Uxie with no investment, which gives it time to set up on the lead form, (Thunder Wave doesn't really cripple as much as Burn or Toxic) while maximising its special defense. Everything else is rather stationary. The last move is up to you - if you prefer priority, sucker punch should be used. Shadow Claw can be used if paralysis support or webs are existant and that speed isn't much of an issue. Brick Break can be used to get past threats such as Regirock and Probopass. But, any coverage move can be here.

EDIT: Taunt, suggested by Aladyyn, is good for stallbreaking if you wish to do so.
So surprisingly havent seen Ferroseed yet, given its rising popularity.

Ferroseed @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Leech Seed
- Spikes
- Protect
- Gyro Ball

Why this isnt a Cacnea: Ferroseed is one bulky little barb, it has decent defenses which when coupled with an eviolite allow it to tank a ton of hits. Even living random HP fires from random pokes. Its biggest niche is as a spike stacker, because in the current meta game spike stacking is amazing. It can reliably set up spikes throughout the entire match, setting them up multiple times even if they are spun/defogged away. (Something to note is it can set up spikes all over Vileplume unless it has HP fire, have yet to see one though) After its being a great spike stacker it also has access to leech seed to allow for good recovery. Thanks to its small HP stat Ferroseed is getting sometimes more than 12% health back from leechseed, and when coupled with protect it can take hits for days. Now the biggest worry for walls is getting set up on. Ferroseed has a pretty mediocre attack stat but when coupled with a terrible speed stat, a minus speed nature, and a STAB Gyro Ball. This little seed can break enough subs to get them to attack you. The biggest problem here is only having 8pp for Gyro Ball so while using it you have to keep that in mind.

Yeah Tangela is a great mon. Quite a few people have used it, and while it isn't as good as last gen it still puts in work

A much better set for it is as follows though:

Tangela @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def
Bold Nature
- Leech Seed
- Giga Drain
- Synthesis
- Hidden Power Fire / Stun Spore / Sleep Powder / Toxic

Leech seed is necessary as coupled with regen it allows tangela to seed switchins then easily back out into a check
Synthesis is also necessary to keep tangela around, as you'll find yourself worn down without it, especially if you've lost your eviolite
The final slot has an array of options, HP Fire is nice to avoid being walled by grass types, stun spore for crippling switchins such as typhlosion, magmortar, archeops (basically anything that likes its speed) sleep for sleeping the swithins and toxic for switches and stalling alongside synthesis.

I'd recommend just running HP fire though because the other options are all usually used on the switch, when you'll most likely be better off leech seeding the switchin or switching out yourself

Sneasel @ Life Orb / Eviolite
Ability: Pickpocket
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Ice Punch
- Ice Shard
- Pursuit / Swords Dance

Why it isn't
:

Sneasel is one of NU tier's top offensive threats. Carrying potent STAB neutral coverage in both Knock Off and Ice Punch, having one of the highest speed stats in NU, and packing a hard hitting 95 base Attack makes it a amazing wallbreaker and cleaner. Its access to Ice Shard also makes it a reliable revenge killer, firing off a strong STAB LO boosted priority move that packs a punch. Its Knock Off is one of the strongest in the tier, threatning out pokemon such as Mismagius and Uxie to their potential check which still gets crippled by the Item removing effect. Ice Punch is a great secondary STAB packing neutral coverage on Fighting, Fairy, and opposing Dark Types, while Pursuit catches many of the Psychic and Ghost pokemon Sneasel often forces out. While Life Orb is the preferred option, Eviolite makes Sneasel surprisingly not frail, allowing it to quickly swords dance and sweep and opponent. Due to a combination of all these trait, Sneasel is one of the best physical attackers and utility trappers in the tier.

Rhydon @ Eviolite
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Atk / 240 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Rock Blast
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Roar
Why it isn't
:
As if it isn't obvious, Rhydon is currently the best NFE bar none. It is the tier's best [arguably tied with Seismitoad] stealth rocker, most reliable phazer, and an amazing tank for offensive and defensive teams alike. There is little reason to not use Rhydon on a team due to its amazing utility as well as pure bulk, great 130 bases attack, neutral STAB coverage, solid typing, access to Eviolite etc. Its sheer bulk lets it come in again and again to set up rocks, while it can phaze sweepers and deal hella damage. Its typing also allows it to check a range of threats including Flying, Rock, Electric,

Quilladin @ Eviolite
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Wood Hammer
- Roar/Leech Seed
- Synthesis/protect

Why it isn't a sunkern:
Eviolite Quilladin has high physical bulk, its very hard to break it on the physical side. It walls lots of Physical attackers in the tier namely Feraligatr,Kangaskhan, choiced fighting pokemon. It can switch to common walls in the tier like rhydon, golem, seimitoad and threaten them to switch. It gets lots of free moves to lay spikes and is a reliable spiker. Due to bulletproof quiladin can switch on to one of the most common wall in the tier vileplume and set up spikes taking very less damage in return. Woodhammer is its STAB which does decent amount of damage against water, ground, rock pokemons. It even has an option of using recovery move, which makes him ever lasting. Roar is for phazing pokemon who try to set up on him or can be used for spike stalling. It even has the option of using leechseed and protect combo which makes him more annoying.

Yeah i had 228 (not 224) speed to outspeed max speed sigilyph, and HP was there to guarantee living adamant zangoose quick attack. Havent used it since sigilyph left but use max speed max attack, with probably preferably jolly nature (though adamant max speed will let you outspeed specs typhlosion, will not outspeed stuff such as pyroar, archeops, mismagius and tauros)

Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Calm Nature
- Spikes
- Rest/Synthesis
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain

Why it isn't a Magikarp: With a decent typing and eviolite, Roselia is a nice defensive pokemon in the tier. It has a nice base 100 SpA that pairs nicely with Giga Drain to give it a decent offensive presence as well. It has Synthesis for recovery or Rest to take advantage of natural cure since Synthesis' PP can be stalled rather easily. Roselia also has access to spikes which makes it a really great addition to stall teams.

Tyrone (Metang) @ Eviolite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Bullet Punch
- Meteor Mash
- Zen Headbutt/Toxic

Why it isn't a Metapod: A first glance at Metang's stats would suggest your casual everyday dedicated defensive Eviolite wall. However, this is not the case with this set. With the offensive buff of steel in gen 6, Metang finds more usage (if any) with this set, being able to take out the recent threat of Slurpuff. Toxic for chip damage. Zen Headbutt if real. Metang appreciates powerful special attacking teammates such as Sceptile, Ludicolo, or Rotom.

You missed the boat on this by a generation tbh. If I'm going to use an NFE, I don't want to use a defensive one that's weak to Knock Off. If by some chance you survive, you're left with no Eviolite and very little health with no recovery. If you want to try an NFE that can set SR without being straight up outclassed by things like Probopass or Steelix, try Ferroseed, or even Piloswine if you're feeling frisky.

Tyrone (Haunter) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Trick
- Destiny Bond

Why it isn't a Pikachu: Haunter is a great versatile threat thanks to its already decent speed, high Special Attack stat, colorful movepool, and useful STAB options. It has the potential to successfully run a Substitute + Disable set, Life Orb, or the scarf set shown above. The scarf set can turn Haunter into a powerful special sweeper, suicide fodder, or [insert term that refers to shutting down a wall by tricking a choice item on it] all at once. As far as team support goes, Haunter appreciates something that can tank incoming dark type moves or just get rid of dark types in general. This is done well by Slurpuff, Gurdurr, Granbull, etc.

edit: I'd appreciate some responses to my own sets since i'm not just going to stick my own set into the op unless i know you guys like it

Piloswine @ Eviolite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Icicle Spear
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard

Why it isn't Trubbish: Piloswine is a mon I have vouched for in NU since last gen because honestly, this thing is way underrated. Ice/Ground might not seem like the greatest defensive typing, but thanks to Thick Fat it gets a very interesting set of resistances and immunities (resists BoltBeam!). Its already decent 100/80/60 bulk is bolstered to great levels by Eviolite, and in tandem with a respectable base 100 Attack, an excellent dual STAB and STAB priority, Piloswine turns into the defintion of a tank. OHKOing it is very hard due to not having any 4x weaknesses, making it one of the most reliable SR setters out there. Having no recovery makes it prone to being worn down, sadly, but this mon is still one of my favs to use so USE IT

PS it's extremely funny to see how people try to KO a decently healthy Piloswine with something like a Specs Pyroar or LO Magmortar, only to fail thanks to Thick Fat and then realize that it OHKOes them in return.

Frillish @ Eviolite
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 236 HP / 172 Def / 36 SpA / 64 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: null Atk
- Recover
- Scald
- Toxic / Will-O-Wisp
- Ice Beam / Night Shade

Why it isn't Luvdisc: Frillish has incredible defensive potential if it is used right, with this amazing typing and having Water Absorb as an ability it's capable of completely shut down Feraligatr (The one carrying Waterfall / Aqua Jet / Ice Punch or Frustration) and sponge the threatening Fire attacks incoming your way. It also prevents your opponent from locking himself into Fighting attacks (Banded Sawk/Scarfed Primeape) giving you a chance to predict the obvious Knock Off and switch out to the appropriate counter. It can easily wall a great portion of the metagame and toxic stall them to dead.

Calcs:
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Feraligatr Ice Punch vs. 236 HP / 172 Def Eviolite Frillish: 88-104 (28.3 - 33.5%) -- 98.3% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252+ Atk Feraligatr Ice Punch vs. 236 HP / 172 Def Eviolite Frillish: 68-80 (21.9 - 25.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Typhlosion Eruption (150 BP) vs. 236 HP / 64+ SpD Eviolite Frillish: 70-83 (22.5 - 26.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Choice Specs Pyroar Fire Blast vs. 236 HP / 64+ SpD Eviolite Frillish: 76-90 (24.5 - 29%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Choice Specs Pyroar Hidden Power Grass vs. 236 HP / 64+ SpD Eviolite Frillish: 112-134 (36.1 - 43.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Guts Flareon Flare Blitz vs. 236 HP / 172 Def Eviolite Frillish: 129-153 (41.6 - 49.3%) -- 82.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Feraligatr Ice Punch vs. 236 HP / 172 Def Eviolite Frillish: 88-104 (28.3 - 33.5%) -- 98.3% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252+ Atk Feraligatr Ice Punch vs. 236 HP / 172 Def Eviolite Frillish: 68-80 (21.9 - 25.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Typhlosion Eruption (150 BP) vs. 236 HP / 64+ SpD Eviolite Frillish: 70-83 (22.5 - 26.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Choice Specs Pyroar Fire Blast vs. 236 HP / 64+ SpD Eviolite Frillish: 76-90 (24.5 - 29%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Choice Specs Pyroar Hidden Power Grass vs. 236 HP / 64+ SpD Eviolite Frillish: 112-134 (36.1 - 43.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Guts Flareon Flare Blitz vs. 236 HP / 172 Def Eviolite Frillish: 129-153 (41.6 - 49.3%) -- 82.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Guts Flareon Flare Blitz vs. 236 HP / 172 Def Eviolite Frillish: 129-153 (41.6 - 49.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
The problem with this kind of set is that K-off already is supereffective on a pokemon with such low base def. With almost every team having Knock off, Frillish would be very risky to use.

252 Atk Life Orb Shiftry Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 236 HP / 172 Def Eviolite Frillish: 304-359 (98 - 115.8%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Dread Plate Liepard Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 236 HP / 172 Def Eviolite Frillish: 258-306 (83.2 - 98.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Toxic Boost Zangoose Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 236 HP / 172 Def Eviolite Frillish: 258-304 (83.2 - 98%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

^ These do more damage than Recover can heal.

Kadabra @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Energy Ball
- Calm Mind / Dazzling Gleam
- Encore

Why it isn't a Sunkern: With Focus Sash and Magic Guard, Kadabra is guaranteed to survive at least one hit, as well as not take a single bit of damage from hazards or status. Kadabra's good Speed and fantastic Special Attack stat means that it can come in on a hazard setter or Toxic/Will-O-Wisp and automatically be a major threat with Encore. While its defenses are terrible, it really shouldn't be taking any hits, but it has a distinct advantage over Sucker Punch users by being able to lock them into it with Encore. Essentially it's great at denting teams who switch out in fear of being locked into a move, with Calm Mind boosting Kadabra's Special Attack even further and giving it some sweeping potential.

Shrek (Quilladin) @ Eviolite
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aerial Ace / Brick Break
- Seed Bomb
- Synthesis

Why this isn't a Paras: With Bulletproof, it allows that it 100% stops most defensive poison types cold, namely Haunter and Vileplume, and anything using Focus Blast, Shadow Ball, Sludge Bomb, etc. This amazing ability allows it to get some suprise walls and gets a free turn of setup on a vileplume switch. The EVs allow it to outspeed Smogon Set Golurk (where it outspeeds Max speed neutral nature Golem) and still have a little bit of bulk merged with maximum power. It's attack gets to a subpar 280, but is boosted heavily by Belly Drum. Aerial Ace allows it to not be walled completely by Weezing (where Brick Break would of been chosen) but Brick Break can be used if Weezing or Poison Types are not a problem. Synthesis is what sets it appart from other setup sweepers - If Vileplume decides to stay in, it can completely heal off its HP with +6 attack. Not too shabby, huh? Status destroys it, but can be very effective with support. It's not seen too much on the ladder, but does show a lot of viability, especially if the satan in a plant gives problems.

Slowpoke @ Eviolite
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Flamethrower
- Slack Off
- Thunder Wave/Yawn/Light Screen/Trick Room/Toxic

Why it isn't a Magikarp:
Nobody uses Slowpoke, like ever. It doesn't even occur to people that it exists. However, Slowpoke is not even a bad pokemon. Let me go over some things that make it a decent choice.

For one, we all know how good Slowbro is in UU. It's even usable in OU, thanks to its solid defensive typing that gives it key resists to Fighting, Fire, Water and Ice. Slowpoke is basically a pocket version of Slowbro: not quite as good, but it's very similar. It comes in, walls things and gives you initiative.

Secondly, it's a great pivot thanks to Regenerator, which is a blessing for Eviolite users that usually lack recovery. It also has Slack Off, which is amazing for any wall. Slowpoke has surprisingly good bulk: with Eviolite you're looking at a tank with 384 HP and 376 Def, which is almost as good as Slowbro.

Thirdly, Slowpoke has good support options. Scald is Scald, it's just a great move to have. Thunder Wave allows you to cripple anything, while Yawn is good for phazing and stopping things from setting up on you. Light Screen can also be used to give your team an easier time dealing with special moves. I've used it myself and it's surprisingly easy to set it up multiple times per match, because it's that easy to bring Slowpoke in thanks to Regenerator. Lastly you can utilize Slowpoke as a TR supporter, though it's quite gimmicky. Worth noting that with base 15 Speed (!) you're literally the slowest pokemon there is, so TR is quite effective. And Flamethrower is what I use to break Klinklangs Subs, that's pretty much the only reason. Don't expect too much from that base 40 SpAtk.

Lastly, Alomomola is gone so this is pretty much the next best thing. On its own Slowpoke won't be doing much, but it fills gaps and weaknesses like no other pokemon in NU can and it provides good support. Just a shame that Knock Off is a thing now, this thing did pretty well against Sawk and Gurdurr last gen if you ran Psychic. Oh well.

the problem with using slowpoke pretty much the same thing with trying to use frillish, in the sense that slowpoke is weak to dark (and therefore the ever-so-common knock off that literally every xy team has ever) and relies on eviolite.

252+ Atk Life Orb Shiftry Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Slowpoke: 242-283 (63 - 73.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Dread Plate Liepard Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Slowpoke: 186-218 (48.4 - 56.7%) -- 89.5% chance to 2HKO
252 Atk Toxic Boost Zangoose Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Slowpoke: 184-218 (47.9 - 56.7%) -- 89.1% chance to 2HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Sawk Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Slowpoke: 194-230 (50.5 - 59.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

let's also not forget that when the eviolite is gone, knock off will do the same damage despite being only 65 BP instead of 97.5.

252 Atk Archeops Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowpoke: 142-168 (36.9 - 43.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Archeops Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Slowpoke: 142-168 (36.9 - 43.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

as a trick room setter, there are better options.
uxie, audino, gourgiest, and carbink to name a few.

Then don't switch Slowpoke into a Knock Off ?_?

I thought it was painfully obvious that you shouldn't switch an Eviolite pokemon with a Dark-weakness into a Knock Off... Why are you even calcing stuff like Shiftry vs Slowpoke lol, what's that going to prove? And TR prefers to have multiple setters anyways, and Slowpoke can easily do it multiple times per match thanks to Regenerator + Slack Off. Regenerator core with Slowpoke + Audino anyone?

(Not trying to come off as rude or anything, but arguments like "lol knock off" don't do justice to the amazingness that is Slowpoke.)

A pokemon designed to take hits from physical pokemon when it has a weakness to one move just about every physical pokemon in the everything carries and gets really screwed over by the side effect of said move is pretty hard to get to work. Also TR is hard to work with in the first place.

Tangela @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def
Bold Nature
- Leech Seed/Toxic
- Stun Spore
- Protect
- Giga Drain/Synthesis

Why it isn't a Sunkern: I don't think i've ever seen Tangela used in the NU aside from me, but Tangela has an amazing bulk with her 110 base Def and with eviolite and recovery, and can absolutelly stall alot of pokemons in the tier and cripple them. Even without spending EVs in Def, she has 399 Def and can be made into dedicated physical wall that can outlast surprisingly a lot of pokemons in the tier reaching an astoundishing 541 Def, and get away with it back to close to full health with refilling from Regenerator ability. With stun spore/leech seed or toxic, you are almost guaranteed to cripple any incoming counter and safely switch to it's check.
Another set worth mentioning, is without Eviolite but with a Scope Lens to replace Stun Spore with Sleep powder while keeping good 361 def, for which she might as well simply use leftovers and function with a different kind of recovery, but in my opinion Leftovers is inferior to other sets because Tangela already has amazing recovery capacity.
Besides being NFE (actually LC Uber), Tangela is not really item dependant and usually can still partially perform well after having it's eviolite knocked off.
