So now that RU has been out for a month, I asked if we could get NU beta started, and people agreed :). Note that this isn't offical NU yet, which is why there is no subforum, C&C section, RMT tags, or the like. Those will all come in time. However, the NU Beta ladder should be up very soon, so we can start seeing what the big threats in NU are, and start crafting the metagame before it becomes official!

seriously im really surprised venomoth is nu in usage oO its a great mon in ru, and i can only wonder at how awesome its gonna be here. it already outspeeds most of the tier and can put it all to sleep, then easily get to +2 and pass to something like magmortar, mismagius, sigilyph, sceptile or magneton for a chance to deal out some heavy damage. vital spirit magmortar will probably be one of the best checks to this since its immune to sleep powder and can just ko with a fire move (quiverpass to lanturn would be strong af).

also NO MORE ALOMOMOLA WOOP WOOP sawk will be strong as fuck with that knock off oml

Wow this is literally what I was going to say before. When I played XY RU based on the stats versus some friends, I slapped Venomoth on every team. Seriously, it is absolutely remarkable. The ability to pass to something like Magmortar or Jynx is ridiculous. I ran Venomoth + FWG of Magmortar / Feraligatr / Virizion + Double Flying of Archeops + Swellow. I realise the only thing Venomoth can pass to is Magmortar but whatever, I still swept. Some big threats appear to be:

• Sawk. Its best checks in Musharna and Misdreavus are smashed by Knock Off.
• Magmortar. Its coverage is great, it has well-rounded stats, and it has brokenmoth to help it.
• Archeops + Swellow. This is so good. Double Flying is making its way to NU.
• Virizion is excellent in RU, I assume it will rise soon.
• Cryogonal is cool, its a great spinner, bulky af specially, and most importantly, it isn't Wartortle or Armaldo.
• Durant is a beast ofc lol.
• Feraligatr gives some great competition to Samurott, they're quite similar in some of their roles. Samurott can do mixed better, Feraligatr has DD.

Overall, really looking forward to this tier n_n

Hyping up Granbull for being the only Sawk counter at the moment unless hax show it's face.

Another thing people seem to have forgotten is Rhydon. Eviolite makes it too bulky, will have to face off with the abundance of special attackers that seems to be everywhere at the moment.

Will definitely check out Magmortar as soon as possible, being able to ignore sleep and fire away powerful moves seems to be a good quality with so many sleepers entering the tier (particularly so as grasses cannot absorb Jynx's Lovely Kiss). But even with all the powerful special threats around, I feel that with the introduction of Assault vest, any team should be able to find some decent checks and counters to those threats as special attackers will rarely carry Knock off, but I may need to eat up those words later. Only thing I'm afraid of right now is Barbaracle. We lost our premier physical wall in Alomomola, and while we do have some physical juggernauts in Steelix, Avalugg and Regirock, all three are weak to its STABs and thus won't be able to wall it if they've been weakened from before. Poliwrath seems like a sure counter to it though, as it resists one STAB, absorbs the other, and proably takes a pittance from his coverage. Barbarcle also needs one turn of setup, so things should still be able to get a safe switch in if it decides to shell smash, and we have stuff like Liepard that can Prankster Encore (why Meowstic doesn't have it is beyond me).

Edit: Definitely want to try Granbull too. Even if it fails to subdue a physical foe, its Intimidation alone will make it easier for what's coming next. Not sure if I'd go full physical defense since Granbull also has a stellar attack stat to use, but whatevs, that can be tailored later.

In all seriousness, quiver pass is ridiculous. Magmortar, Jynx, Typhlosion... Heck anything with decent special attack and coverage will become a beast if passed even 1 boost. And, don't forget Chatot people, Boomburst will hurt at +1 or +2.

Durant is also gonna be a huge threat. It sits at a very good speed tier, and hits very hard due to hustle. I am on mobile so, can't post calcs, but it seems to be OP on paper, although the multitude of fire types in the tier may hurt his chances.

I'm most excited for Sceptile and Sigilyph.

Sawk is probably going to be really dominant. So far, the only reliable check to CB Sawk that I've been able to find is Granbull. Max HP Granbull has a chance to be 3HKO'd by Sawk, max HP/max Defense is 5HKO'd at best, and it only needs 20 Atk EVs to guarantee the OHKO against Sawk in return with Play Rough. Knock Off is such a game changer, and it helps a bit against Togetic, which could otherwise switch into Close Combat for ages. You aren't forced to click Ice Punch when the opponent is carrying Togetic because it doesn't want to lose its Eviolite. Actually, that's going to hurt a lot of checks, including Togetic, Tangela, Misdreavus, etc.

I have been using this core of steelix+Peliper+audino,working well till now :3.
Steelix-usually rocks lead,and notably good against durant(superpower less)and some other physical threats,can take those +2 hurricanes from vivilon and gyrokill it :3,reliable Phazer and rock setter.
Pelliper-Decent physical bulk! :D can defog,roost :3 usable spa! :3 what else it needs!scald burns and airslash! :3 no virzion would like to switch on airslash,take on fighting type moves and hits hard back with airslash!
Audino-Gen 5 classic audino,Heals self and heals every one awesome special cleric :3
especially steelix,pelliper have awesome synergy ^.^ and thhis core is woth trying
note:please carry some thing to take focusblasts,specs eruptions :3
the core is weak to a LO sawk,choiceband or scarf can be handled with prediction,and specs magmortar/Typhlosion ruin it :3

Omg, this is the ONE thing I've been waiting for since Gen 6 release. NU, finally. I loveeee me some NU.
Most of the bans look fine, but there are some odd ones to me. Like Golbat, Skuntank and especially Alomomola.
But we'll see when the tier 'evolves'

Can't wait to use the new and improved Zangoose. That's going to be a threat with Sawk.
Knock off will really affect the outcome of the new NU. Metang, Misdreavus, Tangela and Togetic as Treecko said will really drop their uses I'm afraid.

We'll have to wait and see. And 1 quick question, will the NU team builder be sorted by NU? Like RU has RU? I know this is confusing because I lack proper English, but I'll try to visualize this by a Screenshot.

I think it's too soon. RU hasn't settled at all and many shifts, rises and drops will occur between NU and RU and RU and UU even. I mean I believe like six top threats this month in NU could be gone to RU next month in exchange of other top six threats, thus shifting the metagame entirely from one month to the next. Anyway Venomoth looks scary as a Baton Passer. I see Mismagius as top threat. Virizion as well. Vivillion could easily sweep unprepared teams and will be very prominent. The Megaless tier.

RU is in a very good shape right now, there are some mons that will definitely rise to RU (Venomoth, Virizion), but we probably won't get anything close to their level, it's much more likely that we get stuff like Hitmonchan.
