The ASB Tournament Arena

Surrounded by thousands of screaming Pokemon fans, the ASB Arena can be best described as a standard Pokemon battling arena. In the center of the arena lies a dirt-based floor outlined to show two separate sides (with a white Pokeball center). Surrounding the dirt is a moat filled with water. The moat is about fifteen feet wide and creates a perimeter around the dirt arena. The arena itself is eighty feet wide, one hundred feet long. All moves, weathers, and abilities are legal for the match, since it's an outdoor arena with a large water source and packed dirt. Pokemon must stay in the arena (or the dimensions of the arena in the case of Flying Pokemon, who cannot leave the arena and cannot fly higher than sixty feet). This prevents Pokemon from injuring the crowd watching the tournament. There are no outside interruptions by fans, Pokemon, or other elements not associated with the current battle.

Heads is DA BEZT, so rickheg will be sending out his Pokemon first.

Ok, c'mon out Bushido the Breloom! I know we aren't used to an audience this size, but we'll get over it!

Lead us off with a Spore, followed by a Poisonpowder on yourself, finishing with a Facade.

IF HE TAUNTS
then your actions are a fast Headbutt, then follow through with a Mach Punch, then finish with another Headbutt. He can't do a lot of damage to us so we have to conserve energy, that's where we might lose this!

Spore-Self Poisonpowder-Facade

IF TAUNTED: Headbutt-Mach Punch-Headbutt

Alright Levi. That Spore is gonna put us at a disadvantage. So start with Protect, gotta love that priority. Then use Stun Spore as he poisons himself, and finish with a Sunny Day

Round 1 Begin!

The two trainers waste no time in starting, hurling twin Poke Balls into the air. Two Grass-types emerge-a Breloom from Solstice's ball, and a Whimsicott from rickheg's. Despite their common bond, they look as if they're ready to tear each other apart.

Bushido takes the first move right away, sending a cloud of Spores into the air. However, Levi doesn't look like it wants to fall asleep just yet. A green barrier shimmers into place around it, the Protective shield causing the spores to dissolve into dust upon impact.

Now it's Levi's turn to disable its opponent, sending up a cloud of yellow Stun Spores in the direction of Bushido. They make contact, inflicting the Breloom with 25% paralysis. Bushido then decodes it wants to status itself a bit more. Now why would it do that? But hey I'm the ref, not the player. Bushido sprinkles a cloud of Poisonpowder over itself, poisoning itself. But what's this? Its Poison Heal ability kicks in, and it appears the Breloom is healing himself! So that's what he was after this whole time!

It looks like Levi's been getting into the Beatles recently, because it fires a red beam up into the sky and HERE COMES THE SUN! That's right folks, the power of Fire-type moves is now boosted. Looks like it'll be a Sunny Day today. In a battle between Grass-types. Okey then. All of a sudden, Bushido decides to go on the offense, engulfing itself in a strange aura and ramming into Levi with a full-body Facade. The Whimsicott skids back a bit across the ground, then stands up a bit uncertainly, but with plenty of fighting spirit left.

Okay, Levi. First thing's first, use Worry Seed so the poison hurts him rather than help him. Then set up a 15% Substitute. Then let's see what we can do with SolarBeam.

Ok Bushido we're still in business here! Use Facade twice, that should get rid of his sub! Once that's been done use Spore to get more of an upper hand!

Four rounds of sun

"Levi prepares another seed to hit his foe with-this time, one that would cause Breloom to panic. Breloom would worry so hard, in fact, that he would lose control over his poison-control mechanisms and technical capacity!

However, it appears Levi's forgotten to check the updated Grass-type descriptions, for indeed, it stateth:

'Grass STAB; Immunity to Leech Seed and Worry Seed. 50% reduction in status effect chance of oncoming "powder" attacks. More mobile in areas with strong natural light sources. Superior senses in tall grass and forest areas. Able to use Wrap and Bind without losing focus.'

Bushido chuckles, before hamfisting the foolish Whimsicott with a deadly Facade, powered by the deadly toxins he manifests and the paralyzing spores his foe showered him with. His poisons also heal him, recovering a little health.

Now it's Bushido's turn to be surprised, as while Levi manages to successfully take out a chunk of loose wool/cotton from his mane and knit it into a Substitute, the spores he released in the previous round send out a brief neurotoxin pulse, incapactitating Bushido for the turn.

Levi again has the last laugh this round, as while he manages to unleash a mighty Solarbeam safe behind his Substitute, Bushido tries in vain to utilize more sleeping spores against Levi. Nevertheless, the toxin-absorbing structures of Breloom's form help replenish his energy a little."

Three rounds of sun, Solstice's turn.

Well... That substitute is balls. Ok bud let's go on the offensive! Start us off with another Facade, then attack with a Mach Punch! Finish with another Facade!

Facade-Mach Punch-Facade

So his last move was Spore, yes? Levi, Encore it. Then, while he fails to put you to sleep, let's use our first chill. Then, hit him with another SolarBeam. We're down, and we can't use some of our best stuff, but we're far from out Levi!! For Suicune!!!!

Breloom [Bushido]

Whimsicott [Levi]

Three rounds of sun.

"Levi decides he likes that Spore attack a little too much to let waste. He gives Bushido an Encore, he's so pleased! Even though Bushido knows his trainer's orders, he just can't help but please the Whimsicott! He fires more Spores at Levi, even though he knows they won't do anything. The poisons in Breloom's body heal him/

Content, Levi chills, as Bushido tries again in vain to please him with more Spores...which just fall into the wool of the substitute. Again, more healing from poison=if this keeps up, Breloom might even recover all the damage he took!

Finally realizing how stupid this is, Bushido attempts to tackle Whimsicott with another Facade. Alas, Jirachi has not been with Bushido today, as the spores unleash a a second violent neurotoxin shock through his body, fully paralyzing him as Whimsicott unleashes another SolarBeam.

Two rounds of sun. Rickheg's turn.

So wait...he Spored, then Spored again, then was fully paralyzed, then Facaded? That doesn't seem right, unless I misunderstood how encore works in asb...

Anyway, this isn't looking good. We need to drain his health better than this, or we're gonna lose. But first, armor up with Cotton Guard. Then, hit him with an Energy Ball, and fire off another SolarBeam to end the round.

Ok Bushido he's left himself vulnerable! Start us off with a Spore, then chill. Finish with another Facade. If you're paralyzed on the first turn just move the actions down!

...Whoops. I confused some stuff-Breloom should have been fully paralyzed the last turn and Whimsicott still should have had its Substitute, so re-issue your orders-the order of the match is too critical. rickheg goes first.

(additionally, could someone delete the above two posts once the re-issued orders come out?)

Ok Bushido we need that Substitute down but you're getting pretty tired! Try attacking with a Mach Punch, then if the sub is down Spore, if not attack again with a Headbutt. Either way finish with a chill.

Mach Punch-Spore/Headbutt-Chill

Solstice has informed me that we are now in sudden death. The DQ time is now one day.

Breloom [Bushido]
HP: 74
Energy: 38

Other: poisoned (but still healing!), 15% paralyzed

Whimsicott [Levi]
HP: 51 (15 HP substitute)
Energy: 45

Two rounds of sun.

"Levi confidently begins matters by being a true Prankster and spreading cotton in the air around himself and his Substitute that help knock a great deal of inertia from Bushido's surprisingly fast Mach Punch! That Cotton Guard plan certainly seems handy. Luckily for Bushido, he's healing every turn thanks to his handy-dandy poison-absorption mechanisms.

Levi launches an Energy Ball at Breloom, knocking him back slighty, but Bushido is well-prepared (and resistant), and launches a Headbutt right back through the cotton at Levi's Substitute! However, the cotton continues to vex Bushido, and despite starting to look pretty darn ragged, Levi's substitute remains intact! Annoyed, Breloom simply lets himself recover a little HP thanks to Poison Heal.

Almost exhausted from the powerful Facades he launched earlier this match, Breloom chills. Levi capitalizes, firing a SolarBeam straight at Bushido-and it seems like it's hit the Breloom straight at the chest! Despite the resistance, I'd say that's a critical hit! It appears to have not had an effect on Bushido's poison healing, however.

Meanwhile, on the horizon, clouds are starting to move into view. It looks like Levi's red ray of the rising sun is going to wear off very soon...but both our contestants seem relatively high in health, although both are starting to get lower energy-Levi in particular seems like he needs to chill soon. Can either side triumph?"

Breloom [Bushido]

One more round of sun. Solstice's turn.

This is getting ridiculous! Bushido enough fooling around, attack with a Headbutt and then follow through with another Mach Punch! Chill to finish!

Okay, we have enough energy that we can actually afford to do all that again, so let's, shall we? Cotton Guard, then SolarBeam then I want you to chill too

Breloom [Bushido]
HP: 57
Energy: 42
Boosts: None
Other: poisoned (but still healing!), 10% paralyzed, 3 chills remaining

Whimsicott [Levi]
HP: 51 (1 HP substitute)
Energy: 25
Boosts: +2 Defense
Other: None

One more round of sun.

Not much of note happens-although it seems that Levi is now almost physically invincible to Bushido thanks to its convenient Cotton Guard being refreshed, Bushido's Headbutt finally breaks open the worn and torn Substitute, and Mach Punch, despite all the bolls of force-eating cotton and the rapidly dying stun spores on his back, finally manages to deal something against Levi. Run-on sentences for the win, they might be a poison to our language, but like our Breloom contender Bushido, they can heal.

As both parties started to get tired (particularly Levi), they simultaneously chill out. The ref, noting that both parties are starting to get lower on legal chills, flashes the total left for them both on the big screen, as the sun finally disappears behind cloudy cover.

Breloom [Bushido]
HP: 51
Energy: 46
Boosts: None
Other: poisoned (but still healing!), 5% paralyzed, 3 chills left.

Whimsicott [Levi]
HP: 46
Energy: 23
Boosts: +4 Defense
Other: 3 chills left.

The sun has stopped shining. rickheg's turn. (stupid stall matches...)

Okay, I want you to encore the chill if that's possible. Then make another 15 HP Substitute, then chill again. We're really behind the 8-ball, here. If encoring chill is not possible, then push the other actions forward, and finish with Energy Ball

Bushido I don't think he can encore you doing nothing so ignore it! Attack with a Mach Punch, then a Headbutt, followed by another Mach Punch! He can't last forever and our Technician attacks could wear down the sub!

The following chat via IRC confirms that yes, you can indeed Encore a chill.

00:00 Tortferngatr ...BTW, can you Encore a chill?
00:00 Flora i'd say you can
00:01 Tortferngatr ...does it count to the total chills?
00:01 Flora it should
00:02 Tortferngatr so if a Whimsicott encores a Breloom's chill, then Breloom would chill for two actions, which would count towards the total?
00:02 Tortferngatr (also, BTW, what happens if Encore results in going over maximum chills?)
00:03 Flora i think it should and if it goes over, the pokemon encored would probably do nothing
00:05 Tortferngatr Thanks!

Breloom [Bushido]
HP: 51
Energy: 46
Boosts: None
Other: poisoned (but still healing!), 5% paralyzed, 3 chills left

Whimsicott [Levi]
HP: 46
Energy: 23
Boosts: +4 Defense
Other: 3 chills left.

The sun has stopped shining.

"Levi suddenly turns to the audience, dashing around...wait a minute, is Levi trying to get the audience to do the wave? Yes! The audience slowly seems to be putting their hands up in synchronization, and Bushido is so awed by this amazing Encore that he decides to keep chilling and do the wave with them! This relaxing motion helps Bushido recover some lost energy. Although incredibly tired, Levi manages juuuust enough energy to generate another Substitute! Bushido continues the wave in Levi's stead, the relaxing activity helping him continue to chill out!

Bushido then realizes Levi's ploy, and he punches through more cotton bolls at Levi's Substitute. Of course, the doll holds fast thanks to its cottony protection, and Levi can safely chill behind the scenes. However, I think he needs to chill out a bit more-his energy is getting very low, and if it hits zero, Levi will faint of exhaustion! On the contrary, Bushido is feeling relaxed and refreshed, and ready for his trainer's orders this round!"

Breloom [Bushido]
HP: 55
Energy: 67
Boosts: None
Other: poisoned (but still healing!), 1 chill left.

Whimsicott [Levi]
HP: 31 (9 HP Substitute)
Energy: 13
Boosts: +3 Defense
Other: 2 chills left.

Solstice's turn.

Wow, even with Technician those subs are beefy! We need to amp it up a little! Headbutt to start, then attack with a Facade, finish with another Headbutt!
