Project NU Break this Team: Curse Quag Stall: Voting Period

Liepard + Mantine + Ludicolo

Seeing as Hitmonchan is this team's only way dealing with things faster than Sceptile, rain has a great matchup vs it. Both Mantine and Ludicolo are capable of OHKOing the whole team in rain, provided that Steelix' Sturdy is broken. Thanks to Prankster, setting up rain can't be prevented, and with Damp Rock prolonging rain to 8 turns, only fantastic prediction and switching can prevent one of these Pokemon from sweeping. If Hitmonchan is weakened, other rain staples like Kabutops, Omastar and Poliwrath also have a high chance of beating this team.

So basically it's a team with no fighting resist, versus two powerful fighting type attackers, which literally kill everything. IF he adds on a fighting resist, its just get pursuit trapped, so you still lose. Core even has strong priority to keep setup sweepers in check, because lum forces a 50/50 with sleep powder vs acro vs pluff. Could even tack on like, mesprit or something, with thunder wave, making cb chan outspeed and do 50+ to literally everything

Floatzel literally has no switchins on this team bar maybe Hitmonchan once, but it's not AV so it doesn't take kindly with LO Hydro Pumps, and neither does Magmortar. the only thing faster than it is Sceptile, which get's clean KO'd by Sawk, just like the rest of the team apart from maybe Jumpluff if it dodges a Stone Edge on the switch.

Hariyama @ Assault Vest

Aurorus @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Blizzard
- Freeze-Dry
- Earth Power
- Flash Cannon

Okay so at first glance it became very clear that 4/6 mons just got destroyed by ice spam, so a fast scarf Aurorus can tear the team apart besides the Magmortar and the Hitmonchan. To cover these two, Weezing places on the team for Hitmonchan, it's T-Spikes also pressure Magmortar, Sceptile, Omastar and Hitmonchan. Finally, to cover Magmortar we have a standard Hariyama that can counter it completely.

Also: +2 252+ SpA Life Orb Omastar Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Assault Vest Hariyama: 339-399 (79 - 93%) -- guaranteed 2HKO - tanked.

Ferroseed @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs

- Thunder Wave

Hitmonchan @ Life Orb
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature

Sliggoo @ Eviolite
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 SpD
Careful Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Outrage
- Curse

Ferroseed walls 4 out of the 6 mons on the team and gives every member problems by spreading Paralysis and being annoying with Leech Seed. A lack of a solid Fighting resist gives way to Hitmonchan having its way with the team and is especially useful over other Fighting-types because it revenge kills Omastar with Mach Punch. Finally, Sliggoo covers Ferroseed's crippling Magmortar weakness and sets up on a solid 3 to 4 mons on the team. It's very hard to revenge kill reliably without some luck.

So, as I look at these cores, they all seem very threatening to the team, but I must choose one, and since I have taken an interest in Rain lately, I'll go with Core 2.

lolbro wins this week, I also stole his team where he got that core from for this round so double congrats!

Description
Chan+Sawk wear down most of the fighting checks, with skunk aiding what what wasn't covered, allowing Scarf sawk to clean, and CB chan to break holes in teams. Rocks mesprit is the fighting resist, Sceptile+Kabutops act as great wincons that have the added utility of being offensive water/grass, and normal/flying checks respectively. This team got reqs too :o

Post your favorite cores to break this team, I'll end the posting stage around Friday night

Samurott @ Rindo Berry / Wacan Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Megahorn

Pelipper @ Choice Specs
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 120 HP / 252 SpA / 136 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hurricane
- Scald
- Hydro Pump
- U-turn

The team's Water resist is a Sceptile, essentially meaning Specs Pelipper has a field day. Pelipper on its own can OHKO or 2HKO every member of the team, but Rindo Rott forms a really neat Water Spam core with it to boot. Both of these pokemon have no trouble breaking through Sceptile, and once one has achieved this, the other can continue to punch wholes in the team. Simple but very effective.

Edit: Rindo works better for this matchup, but if you want to use the core outside of breaking this team, I suggest Wacan Berry as it alleviates the weakness to Electric.

Sawk and SKuntank are the only things that can really touch Ferroseed so it can just chill and Thunder Wave the entire team as nothing can really safely switch into it. Yama can get chip damage off on Sawk, Mesprit and Hitmonchan and Garbodor chips away at Hitmonchan, Sawk and Kabutops' attacks too.

I've blown away shadestep's core like 8 times on ladder while i was getting my reqs, and im not sure on aurosis' but it's a sexy ass meme so core 1

At least you guys didn't let Shadestep win this as well. Aurosis is the champ for this week so good job!

The team for this week was cooked up by Blast so huge thanks to him. This is the squad he used in week 6 (I think) of SPL this year so it's definitely been through a fair amount of preparation and is able to stand up to most threats in nu rather effectively. Post cores that threaten this team until Friday night.

Description
This was the squad I used against rozes in SPL. I build around SD Scyther passing boosts to either Shiftry or Scarf Sawk, which both share strong offensive synergy on their own and can open up massive holes if you can successfully pass a boost. Sawk is just the standard Scarf set though Shiftry I went with Seed Bomb + Explosion to get maximum use out of Scyther's support. Magmortar helps the team both offensively and defensively, providing crucial resists to Fire and Ice and checking Pokemon like Vileplume. I went with EQ > Flame Charge because the team really appreciates Lanturn being worn down, and between Scarf Sawk and Shiftry I figured my team had enough potential cleaners to do without Flame Charge. I also went with a really fast spread since imo that's the only way to run AV Magmortar, its Speed tier is just to crucial to run much bulk (specifically this spread beats neutral base 80s). Next up, Rhydon is the obligatory Normal and Flying resist as well as the SR setter, and a decent BP recipient as well. I chose it over Steelix for its higher offensive presence and better coverage moves. I went with a NASCAR spread on it to allow it to outspeed walls like Weezing and potentially bust through them after being passed a boost, and the special bulk + HP is to be able to switch into Swellow three times with rocks up iirc. Finally Mantine was added to give Scyther Defog support as well as provide a Water resist. Mirror Coat is a bit gimmicky but it comes in handy vs stuff like Mesprit and Sceptile.
