Lanturn @ Assault Vest
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 144 SpD / 112 Spe
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Volt Switch
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power Grass

Lanturn can easily switch in to Zard as it will take minimal damage from Acrobatics. If you think your opponent will switch in to Gastrodon click HP-Grass. You have to watch out for EQ tho because that will 2HKO Lanturn.

8 Atk Charizard Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Lanturn: 80-95 (20.4 - 24.2%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

0- Atk Gastrodon Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Lanturn: 258-306 (65.9 - 78.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO :(

252+ SpA Lanturn Hidden Power Grass vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Gastrodon: 240-284 (56.3 - 66.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Lilligant @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power Rock
- Sleep Powder

Lilligant right off the bat threatens gastro as that 4 times weakness to grass puts it in a major disadvantage in the first place. Gastro is just passive against it honestly, the best it can do is toxic or yawn, forcing a 50/50 if it stays in or not. In which it risks getting cleanly ohkoed by giga drain. So zard is gonna be the obvious switchin, and predicting that you can get a sleep powder off, quiver dance up and or hp rock it. Hp rock threatens zard as it is 4 times weak to rock just like how gastro is 4 times weak to grass. But in this case lilligant fears zard too, as it can ohko with acro. Although it doesnt matter when zard gets bopped by a hp rock and is outsped by a boosted lilligant.

252 SpA Life Orb Lilligant Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Gastrodon: 671-795 (157.5 - 186.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

8 Atk Charizard Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Lilligant: 260-308 (92.5 - 109.6%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Lilligant Hidden Power Rock vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Charizard: 354-416 (98.6 - 115.8%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

Samurott @ Life Orb
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot
- Aqua Jet

-Samurott is pretty big threat to this core, and with Gastrodon getting popular after dropping in Nu, I can definitely see Grass knot being pretty viable option to run over megahorn(lanturn isnt that common on bulky balance as before since gastro completely stops defensive pivot set). Hydro pump easily Ohkoes zard and due to samurotts naturally high physical bulk its not taking a lot from acrobatics, while grass knot has a chance to ohko gastrodon.
252+ SpA Life Orb Samurott Hydro Pump vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Charizard: 517-611 (144 - 170.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Life Orb Samurott Grass Knot (60 BP) vs. 252 HP / 16 SpD Gastrodon: 380-452 (89.2 - 106.1%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO

Miltank @ Leftovers
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 248 HP / 120 Def / 120 SpD / 20 Spe
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunder Wave/Toxic
- Seismic Toss
- Heal Bell/Stealth Rock
- Milk Drink

Fat and anoying cow, we all love and hate at the same time. Miltank is a great partner to this core being able to counter most of the threats that this core has, like hp rock lilligant, hp grass lanturn, archeops, and samurott, tho the last one is a bit harder to check. Miltank can support the team a lot being able to throw out thunder wave's that is always nice or even toxic's if rotom is anoying, it also can run heal bell to heal the toxic's that lanturn can throw out to gastrodon and other anoying status moves. Even can get up rocks if your team really needs one. Charizard helps a lot miltank with the fighting types and gastrodon helps out miltank with anoying rock types like rhydon and regirock which is nice. Pretty nice core I've been using a lot and having good success with.

Ferroseed @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 148 Def / 112 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Leech Seed
- Bullet Seed / Thunder Wave

Ferroseed supports this core nicely by setting up Stealth Rock, providing speed control and adding some useful resistances. Ferro can deal with the threats this core has to deal with like HP-Rock Lilligant and Samurott. Ferroseed also enjoys Charizards presence by resisting Fire and Fighting type attacks. Ferroseed provides resistances every team needs like a Normal- and Psychic-type resist. Resisting Grass 4times and resisting Rock helps this core too.

Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Recover
- Giga Drain
- Rock Slide

Cradily completes a nice fwg core with gastro and zard, taking on water types and strong grass types as well. It also gets up rocks to pressure zard counters and checks ludicolo prettty well.

Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 252 SpA / 108 SpD / 148 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Acid Spray
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Defog

-My favourite defogger in tier, gastrodon easily switches into things like steelix that threatens skuntank, while skuntank is a secondary grass check for core. Spread outspeeds abomasnow while mantaining enough bulk to check mega audino/psychic types with acid spray since this core cant beat it alone.

This week I got some help in picking winners so thanks to Aladyyn and ~Eternally n_n

This week's winner for threat is Holiano's Floatzel and the winner for partner is Allstar's Miltank. Congratulations!

This week's core is one Shadowtags posted out in the Good Cores thread so I thought I would steal use it...

Floatzel @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Grass] / Baton Pass

Manectric @ Life Orb
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA
- Overheat
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Another offensive core, this time featuring LO Manectric and Floatzel. I consider these two pretty effective right now since they can beat down most balance and fatter builds rather easily by overwhelming the checks that these two share like Lanturn. Pretty easy core to use overall, a little prediction heavy but you'll usually only need to get one or two plays right to put yourself in a very commanding position during a game. Run HP grass on floatzel if you're paranoid of Gastrodon like I am, Otherwise Baton pass and taunt make acceptable substitutes.

The threat nomination period will end on Thursday. You may now post threats to this core.

Tauros (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Double-Edge
- Earthquake
- Zen Headbutt
- Rock Slide

Scarf Tauros is a huge threat to this core, outspeeding and having a huge chance to OHKO both Floatzel and Manectric, even without rocks up. Scarf Tauros also has the surprise factor against Floatzel's that might stay in and try to take Tauros out, assuming that they can outspeed it.

252+ Atk Tauros Double-Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Manectric: 270-318 (96 - 113.1%) -- 75% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Tauros Double-Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Floatzel: 289-342 (92.9 - 109.9%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Lanturn @ Assault Vest
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 136 SpD / 120 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Grass]

-First thing that came on my mind was Lanturn, I used to slap this thing on nearly every team before gastrodon dropped because it checked a lots of threats/and stopped momentum. With gastrodon in tier, unfort pivot lanturn set is completely stopped by it, and with nu lacking safe scald switchins i dont use this thing defensively. AV set is still pretty good tho, it still walls things it used, and has a nice offensive presence, hp grass easily 2 koes gastro and it doesnt take a lot from earth power. Floatzel and Manectric can both only hit it with only hp grass which doesnt do a lot, and volt switch pretty much ohkoes floatzel, while hydro does a ton to manectric. Evs let it outspeed aggron while mantaining bulk.
252+ SpA Lanturn Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Floatzel: 306-360 (98.3 - 115.7%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Lanturn Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Manectric: 210-247 (74.7 - 87.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Hariyama @ Assault Vest
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge / Earthquake
- Bullet Punch

Standard AV Yama is actually a big threat for many special sweepers, including Manec and Floatzel. This guy can easily come on both and just destroy them with Close Combat. Nothing else to say, everyone knows AV Yama tho.

252 SpA Life Orb Floatzel Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Assault Vest Hariyama: 126-149 (29.3 - 34.7%) -- 10% chance to 3HKO
252+ Atk Hariyama Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Floatzel: 328-387 (105.4 - 124.4%)

252 SpA Life Orb Manectric Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Assault Vest Hariyama: 121-142 (28.2 - 33.1%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ Atk Hariyama Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Manectric: 306-360 (108.8 - 128.1%)

Floatzels Ice Beam hits it the hardest and it's not even a 3HKO. Easily sets up on Manectric and you can catch an HP Grass if you can.

Primeape @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Defiant / Vital Spirit
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Scarf Primeape outspeeds both of these guys and has just enough power to OHKO Floatzel and Manectric with Close Combat after Stealth Rock or a round of LO recoil, and can use U-turn to capitalise on the switches it causes. Earthquake also gets a clean OHKO on Manectric.

252 Atk Primeape Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Floatzel: 273-322 (87.7 - 103.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Primeape Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Manectric: 255-301 (90.7 - 107.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

BIG G CHOPPA

Banned deucer.

Musharna @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 240 HP / 16 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Moonlight
- Signal Beam

This is a more specially defensive spread to take on the likes of floatzel and manectric easier and basically soak up all of what they have to throw at it. The combination of its high hp stat and its not bad sp def stat makes it able to tank their special attacks with ease. Using them as setup bait too in which it can retaliate with a hard psychic. Calcs below.

252 SpA Life Orb Floatzel Hydro Pump vs. 240 HP / 252+ SpD Musharna: 133-156 (30.7 - 36%) -- 41.3% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Manectric Thunderbolt vs. 240 HP / 252+ SpD Musharna: 122-146 (28.1 - 33.7%) -- 0.2% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

+1 0 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Manectric: 231-273 (82.2 - 97.1%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

+1 0 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Floatzel: 264-312 (84.8 - 100.3%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Kangaskhan @ Assault Vest
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Double-Edge
- Sucker Punch
- Earthquake

While Kangaskhan may not be able to outspeed Manectric and Floatzel, its access to powerful priority in Fake Out--which is boosted by Silk Scarf if you choose to run it instead of Assault Vest--and Sucker Punch mitigates its low Speed. Assault Vest allows it to tank Overheat, Thunderbolt, and Focus Blast from Manectric and Floatzel respectively. The latter would otherwise KO Kangaskhan after Stealth Rock damage. The combination of Fake Out and Double-Edge has a guaranteed KO on both Manectric and Floatzel, Earthquake also KOes Manectric and Sucker Punch can be used to pick them both off. Kangaskhan poses as a real threat to this core because of the amount of pressure it can put on both of these Pokemon.

Mild Nature
- Ice Beam
- Freeze-Dry
- Explosion
- Ice Shard

Lures out Hariyama with Explosion, takes on Dragons, kills Musharna with Ice Beam + Explosion provided some high rolls, takes a hit from Swellow and kills it, or Ice Shard picks it off if it is below 83%, plus kills Lanturn with two Freeze Drys. Plus it provides a cute factor, what more could you ask for?

Scyther @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Aerial Ace
- Knock Off
- Quick Attack

Floatzel does not like grass types in general and as scyther quad resists that, it can quite easily come in on some common grass types and can threaten some fighting types who think they can eat up a hit like hariyama or even a fighting type mon who can outspeed floatzel and threaten with powerful fighting stab in the form of close combat, aka scarf primeape. Scyther can come in on a primeape choice locked into close combat and aerial ace to pick up KO or u turn out of there and get some momentum. Momentum is generally a nice thing for frail pokemon as it can bring them in safely and then they can unleash their powerful stab or whatnot. Scyther performs a nice volt turn core in conjunction with manectric which is nice as momentum can give you the advantage in a match.

Weezing @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 148 Def / 108 Spe
Bold Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Sludge Bomb
- Taunt
- Toxic Spikes

Weezing is a great partner to this core, as it is able to cripple physical attackers that pose as threats to this core, such as Kangaskhan, Primeape, and Tauros, and proceed to wear them down with Sludge Bomb. Weezing also provides invaluable support in Toxic Spikes, which both Floatzel and Manectric greatly appreciate, as it helps them net extra KOs. A Psychic check like Skuntank and a Fire / Water resist like Lanturn is greatly appreciated, as between Manectric, Weezing, and Floatzel, there are none of these.

calcs:
  • 252 Atk Life Orb Sheer Force burned Tauros Zen Headbutt vs. 252 HP / 148+ Def Weezing: 84-100 (25.1 - 29.9%) -- 0.2% chance to 4HKO after Black Sludge recovery
  • 252+ Atk Silk Scarf burned Kangaskhan Double-Edge vs. 252 HP / 148+ Def Weezing: 72-84 (21.5 - 25.1%) -- possible 5HKO after Black Sludge recovery
  • 252 Atk Choice Band burned Primeape Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 148+ Def Weezing: 43-51 (12.8 - 15.2%) -- possibly the worst move ever
  • 0 SpA Weezing Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Primeape: 114-135 (42 - 49.8%) -- 87.5% chance to 2HKO after burn damage
  • 0 SpA Weezing Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Kangaskhan: 102-121 (29 - 34.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after burn damage
  • 0 SpA Weezing Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Tauros: 127-150 (43.6 - 51.5%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO after burn damage

So, this core really appreciates spikes, as its very effective at forcing switches, so Garbodor is a natural fit:

Garbodor @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spe
Impish Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Focus Blast
- Spikes
- Toxic Spikes

Garb is also a good partner, as it helps to switch into the grass types that would generally try to switch into mane's electric attacks, and floatzel's water attacks, and can then set up on them, or punish them with a gunk shot. Meanwhile, floatzel can KO the ground types that would try to switch into its poison stab attacks, and mane can take on xatu easily, which often tries to punish its hazard setting. That said, the core with garb acting as support really needs a pivot.

We also did a teambuilding workshop today which uses this core fairly effectively

This week I got some help in picking winners so thanks to Jarii and GyRro n_n

This week's winner for threat is PrinceLucian's Lanturn and the winner for partner is quziel's Garbodor. Congratulations!

This week's core is one I stole again from the Good Cores thread and oddly enough it happened to be the winner PrinceLucian's core...

Garbodor @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 248 HP / 204 Def / 56 Spe
Impish Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Spikes
- Gunk Shot
- Focus Blast

Xatu @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Signal Beam
- Grass Knot/Heat Wave
- Roost/Hidden Power Ground

This is a core for offensive/bulky offensive hazard stack teams with Life orb Xatu/Helmet Garbodor, which I think really pairs well together since LO Xatu appreciates sturdy fighting resist/knock off switchin in Garbodor. What makes them good together is Xatu being a soft hazard control for team, while also beating/outspeeding/luring opposing hazard controls/spinners like hitmonchan, claydol, kabutops, shiftry, and even Skuntank since I like running HP Ground over roost for last slot because its a clean 2 KO, it also beats rhydon/steelix/golurk/aggron if some of them think can switch in for free. Garbodor appreciates all those gone so it can start weakening opposing teams with spikes for late game cleaners. Xatu is also somewhat soft psychic check since signal beam 2 Ko-es mesprit, grumpig, musharna before boost(also beats malamar), but team still requires secondary psychic check. Good partners include fire/water/ice check, ghost check(things like magmortar, offensive gastrodon,poliwrath,ninetales),psychic/normal resist , and late game cleaners that appreciates spikes support.
The threat nomination period will end on Thursday. You may now post threats to this core.

Pyroar @ Choice Specs
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Hyper Voice
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Overheat

Pyroar blows past this core without any problems. Since Xatu doesn't have any HP or SDef investment, it drops to a Fire Blast or even a Hyper Voice. Garbodor is OHKOd by Specs Overheat, and Fire Blast has a good chance to kill after SR.
As a bonus, neither of these Mons can OHKO Pyroar back.
