The battle will be DTC vs Raseri by default. I will be using team 1, and Raseri will be using team 2. It will (hopefully) happen in two days~ Feel free to submit your arguments in the meantime.

team 2 wins.

1) im using it im the best :)
2) Sawsbuck and Drifblim are just really good at keeping the pressure on, team 1 is forced to be on the defensive despite not being a defensive team
3) Piloswine is a boss, it will keep team 1 on its toes
4) Throh sucks
5) I can set up SR on literally anything so Cacturne's sash is useless
6) i dont like my electabuzz but whatevs its still cool

gg Raseri~ that was a strange battle for many reasons

POINTS
  • Raseri gets one point for winning the battle
  • sweetjesus gets one point for getting predictions correct
  • FLCL gets one point for predictions, as well as a point for winning the master debater award.

Next round will start in a few days.

this is actually a pretty cool matchup and could definitely go either way based on the players.

...but team 2 has the better inherent matchup, and the reasoning behind that is: seismitoad. seismitoad puts immediate pressure on carracosta, piloswine, and skuntank, and can take advantage of a locked-in rotom-s while nothing else can easily switch in and keep it at bay. ludicolo can cleanly ohko it with giga drain but it is 2hkoed by sludge wave and is also slower than seismitoad, so it can't switch in for fear of being lured. haunter can disable hydro pump, but that really just shaves hp off of haunter because team 2 can just switch back into probopass and vswitch out of ludicolo or 2hko piloswine with flash cannon. assuming both players are of equal skill and that the player of team 2 prioritizes opening opportunities for seismitoad, team 2 should be able to break apart the core of team 1 and win the game.

that's not to say that team 1 can't win, though. just about every pokemon is checked by the other team or can be beaten via good play. they could win easily if they can eliminate gardevoir with skuntank and then later find an opportunity to get up RD with ludicolo, since team 2 can't do anything bar chip damage to colo on its set-up opportunities unless they double-switch sawsbuck in (which, again, necessitates good play). ludicolo plays similarly to seismitoad for the other team, but team 2 isn't quite as susceptible to ludicolo as team 1 is to seismitoad, as mostly everything bar probopass can at least pop it somewhat and they have a pretty solid check in gardevoir. i also think it's pretty important for team 1 to keep haunter around given that it has the ability to beat several of team 2's mons one-on-one. if team 1 can get rid of probopass, it has a great chance of being able to win with haunter alone. that's going to be pretty hard to do unless team 2 fucks up and lets it die trying to KO piloswine, though.

this matchup is really just a tossup for whichever team plays better. both have opportunities to cleanly sweep the other if they play well. for the sake of things i'm just gonna go with team 2 since they have an easier time preventing team 1 from rolling, but it really could go either way.

reasons why team two has the advantage:
  • team one's rotom-s, haunter, and skuntank have to play around probopass very carefully since they all barely do anything to it.
  • the other half of team one, consisting of piloswine, ludicolo, and carracosta, has to watch out for seismitoad.
  • skuntank and rotom-s also has to bust through seismitoad. the former is OHKO'd by earth power, while the latter has to predict around seismitoad before considering using volt switch.
  • also, seismitoad has a good shot at getting a substitute up against carracosta or rotom-s. a free substitute means something will be taking a hard hit.
  • between destiny bond gardevoir, probopass, and sawsbuck, team one's main checks to musharna are pressured heavily. gardevoir's destiny bond and sawsbuck's nature power will mess up skuntank. skuntank and haunter won't be able to do much to probopass at all.
  • ludicolo and carracosta can't set up easily while gardevoir and seismitoad/rotom-f are around, respectively.
  • all the stuff mentioned above means that team two has advantageous tools at its disposal to weaken the cores of team one while preventing any setup from immediately taking the win.

what team one needs to do is break through gardevoir and/or seismitoad to have a shot at breaking through with ludicolo or carracosta. team one can win, but it involves playing well with skuntank and haunter in order to dispose of gardevoir since a ludicolo under rain would be able to wreck from then on. although both teams have ground-types to keep the opposing rotom-a from volt switching around freely, getting stealth rock up is imperative to limit them. this is more important for team one as +2 carracosta won't have to worry about rotom-f as much if piloswine can get off a stealth rock.

Two teams that are pretty well balanced, curious about the match.

Team two will have the upperhand in the battle though. Seismitoad is a great danger to most of the opponent's team, and probopass will be there to intercept any attack from Skun, Haunter or Rotom, so Gardevoir and Musharna will be able to be safe from them. If team one plays his or her cards right, it can still cripple or kill Gardevoir and Musharna with the Skun/Haunt. Seismitoad will most likely damage every other switch in, Pilo/Ludi/Carra. If team 2 plays well, it should be able to take out each pokémon one by one, picking off the weakest one in the chain each time a switch comes in.

It will be hard for team one to break the momentum of this team, as team two always has a switch ready to counter. By predicting the switch, team one will be able to pick off some of team two's pokémon, but team two will always react with a RK, probably by Seismitoad. It will be very difficult to stop.

Getting up hazards may be crucial for killing the rotoms, but as I already implied, it won't be easy to set up against team 2, as it will counter every switch in or attack of the pokemon that's in play. So, I highly think that team two will be the victor in this battle. If played well and smartly by the player of team one, there will be a chance that it will win, but it has to stay focused, set up hazards, predict without fault and keep Seismitoad or Gardevoir from setting up.

thanks to dtc for attempting to run this but not enough people seem interested so i'll be closing this activity.

abuse!

yeah this died fast. if anyone wants to run something like this in the future, talk to one of the nu mods and try and come up with potential improvements to make this project more interesting.
