Offensification (Hoopa-U BANNED)

Approved by Eevee General when this meta was previously known as 'Physicalist and Specialist'

OFFENSIFICATION

Used to be playable here...

Offensification is a metagame where the damage category of any damaging move the user uses is determined by the user's higher offensive stat.
This means if an Infernape with 252 Attack EVs uses Fire Blast, Fire Blast would be Physical, but if an Infernape with 252 Sp.Attack EVs uses, Fire Blast would be Special.
If Infernape had equal offensive stats, Fire Blast would be Special because Fire Blast is Special by default.
Note: Self-stat-down moves lower the stat you used. (Thanks to Ghoul King for the idea to add this)
Still confused? Open the spoiler below:

This Greninja has 242 Special Attack vs 226 Attack. This means when this Pokemon uses any damaging move, Dark Pulse for example, it will be Special, because its Special Attack is higher than its Attack.

However, because now this Greninja has 317 Attack vs 217 Special Attack, when this Greninja uses any damaging move, Dark Pulse for example, it will be Physical.

Lastly, this Greninja now has equal offensive stats. This means if this Greninja were to use Dark Pulse, it will be Special. This is because Dark Pulse is a Special Move by default. If it used Night Slash, then it would be Physical, because Night Slash is Physical by default.

But remember, Greninja is banned. :/

-Other Notes/Mechanics
  • Abilities or Items that affect offensive stats are not taken into consideration when deciding the damage category. This means if Choice Banded Huge Power Azumarill has no/equal Attack or Special Attack IVs/EVs, all moves it uses will still be Special by default.
  • Effects of moves that involve a Damage Category are reversed if they use the opposite Damage Category. For Example, Special SuperPower will reduce the Sp.Atk and Sp.Def of the user after use.
  • This also includes moves like Psyshock. For Example, Physical Psyshock will use the target's Special Defense stat in calculation.
  • EDIT: 01/17/15: Stat boosting moves are now affected by offensive stat. This means, for example, if a Pokemon using Dragon Dance has higher Special Attack than Attack, Dragon Dance will give +1 Sp.Attack and +1 Speed.
  • Note: Foul Play will always use the opponent's Attack stat when calculating damage, and Hustle will reduce the accuarcy of any Physical Attack, including attacks with changed categories.
  • Abilities or items are unaffected.

Overheat could work because it switches from physical to special and hits harder than Flare Blitz. Fire Blast has no recoil or attack drop, but is weaker and inaccurate. "This set takes advantage of physical Charge Beam (which has a 70% chance to boost Attack) alongside its nice base 102 Speed, respectable bulk thanks to Fur Coat, and access to priority in Sucker Punch. (I'm also considering Surf for hitting Ground-types, but I don't know where it would fit on the set.) Can Furfrou actually be useful?"

"Klinklang gets a great benefit from this meta in the form of a movepool that works better with its signature move Shift Gear. Unfortunately, it still has to use Hidden Power for coverage. The choice of Hidden Power depends on whether Ferrothorn or Gliscor is a bigger problem. Heck, maybe even Grass for Quagsire would work. The Speed EVs are used to outspeed Scarf Terrakion, Infernape, and Keldeo after a Shift Gear, even with the required Speed drop of Hidden Power Fire, with the rest put into HP to increase its bulk."

"CB scizor with better STAB and extra coverage"
Because lrode has posted so many sets, I think it would be better if you saw the post itself.

Got any other sets? Wynaut suggest some?

Landorus-I
Now able to use its 125 Base Attack in combination with Sheer Force, Landorus-I can wreck- and that is why it is a suspect. With access to Sludge Wave, Psychic, Earth Power, Rock Slide and more, in combination with Bulk Up, lack of great coverage is all that it really lacks.
rip landorus

Alakazam
With a combination of Special Knock Off + Psyshock, Alakazam can easily counter Chansey. Being the best Pokemon able to pull this off, it has great coverage too with moves such as Shadow Ball, Drain Punch/Focus Blast, The Elemental Punches, Dazzling Gleam, Energy Ball and even more.

Nidoking
A version of Landorus that sacrifices speed and power for better coverage for its weaknesses and better STAB. Normally always Scarfed, Nidoking now can use Physical Earth Power, Sludge Wave, Flamethrower, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt and much more.

Mamoswine
The only ice type now in OU, Mamoswine, along with its normal moves, can use Physical Freeze-Dry to tackle its water weakness, and has better STAB in the form of Physical Ice Beam.

Togekiss
With Extreme Speed and Drain Punch, Togekiss gets a nice option for dealing big damage with Nasty Plot, and a form of recovery for the uncommon Assault Vest set.

Dragonite
A great asset for every rain team in this meta, Dragonite can use Physical ThunderCane (Thunder + Hurricane) and even gets use off Aqua Jet in the rain. Along with Physical Dragon Pulse, this Pseudo-Legend gets a great advantage.

Mega Houndoom
I believe Jajoken explains this the best:
Mega Houndoom
seems like an underrated threat in this meta. It has access to the most powerful specially offensive Sucker Punch AND Pursuit in the game (outside of niche picks like Life Orb specially offensive Zoroark or Ubers like Yveltal) thanks to STAB and 140 base special attack. With Nasty Plot to boost that stat further, Mega Houndoom feels a bit like Bisharp's specially offensive cousin, only it gives up Knock Off and Defiant in return for a more useful secondary STAB. I wouldn't recommend running both SP and Pursuit like Bisharp can sometimes afford to do, but you can either use it to force switches and Pursuit trap or decimate fast foes with Sucker Punch.

Swellow
Surprisingly good, Swellow gets access to Physical Heat Wave, Boomburst and a Hidden Power of choice (there's also Ominous Wind, but I doubt that will be used). Physical Heat Wave allows Swellow to hit many Steel types, that previously walled it, and Boomburst can be used instead of Facade if you want to go past substitutes. Lastly, with Guts it is pretty much immune to any prankster status shenanigans from Thundurus and Sableye.

Think a certain Pokemon is a threat? Wynaut suggest it?

-Notes
  • Pokemon who get more Physical moves despite being Special Attackers, and vice versa, have the option to remove this disadvantage.
  • Pokemon who have an alright movepool of the opposite damage category they primarily use can also use this to their advantage.
  • Pokemon can use movepools from before the Physical/Special Split.
  • Many Pokemon no longer need to rely/use Mixed Sets.
  • Many Sheer Force and Serene Grace users get an optional advantage, as many have useable moves that are of their opposite damage category. Particularly;

Thanks for reading, try discussing, and enjoy the meta!

  • Well Scrappy Swellow and I guess Guts will love a physical Boomburst.
  • Get ready for Special Knock Off.
  • I think anything that learns Earth Power also learns Earthquake, which is a slight upgrade, unless you're Sheer Force based. The same can be said for Surf/Waterfall, which have similar distribution.
  • Pixilate Sylveon has a stronger Hyper Voice with Return, but it no longer bypasses Subs.
  • U-turn and Volt Switch offer more to Pokemon that only used them for pivoting, since now they can deal actual damage on things like Mega Pidgeot and Forretress respectively.
  • Zapdos has special Drill Peck. All is right in the world.

Vacuum Wave Scizor.
Drain Punch Gengar.
Hidden Power.
Special U-Turn
Special Gunk Shot Greninja
Hydro Pump / Grass Knot Azumarill
Fire Blast Ttar
Draco Meteor physical dragon

Edit: why don't I read OPs entirely...

Fire Blast Talon (w/ HP ground)
Return M-Gard
Psychic Mega Gallade
Drain Punch Togekiss (maybe NP with Espeed?)
Physical Moonblast Diancie-M ( or special CM )
Fire Blast will be better than Fire Punch
Freeze Dry phys Mamoswine
Does Mega Medi get Vacuum Wave?
Scald Azu for AV set. If it learns Draining Kiss... BD
Calm Mind Iron Head Jirachi

One word:
Victini.

Ya'll ready for special v-create with special bolt strike and special u turn as icing on the cake?
Those have the same damage output as their old physical versions because both of Victini's attacking stats are 100, so I don't see the incentive to use them as special moves unless you're checking a particular threat.

This metagame favors things with lopsided offenses and deep movepools, like Gyarados. Hydro Pump/Scald are direct upgrades to Waterfall (minus the flinch), Dark Pulse/Crunch are good for the mega forme, and Fire Blast and Thunderbolt give it swell coverage. If anything I see Victini staying mixed since its stats are close together to begin with.

Simple: set up those NPs, hit faster stuff with Espeed a la Lucario, annoy stuff with Air Slash, recover with Drain Punch, and take some actual hits with your decent bulk. Scizor, Terrakion and Gengar out first. Ttar weakened. Chansey too.
Mega Garchomp is going to be ridiculous in this meta.

Mega Garchomp @ Garchompite
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature (or Adamant)
- Swords Dance
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
- Draco Meteor

Outrage has just been usurped by Draco Meteor as Garchomp's most powerful and reliable STAB. Most terrifying is the fact that it doesn't care about the Special Attack drop, since all of its moves here are physical now. Furthermore, it can afford to run a Jolly/ Adamant nature, since it won't be using its SpA stat, so it can be as fast and as powerful as it wants without sacrificing any bulk.
Time to become super annoying!

Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SpD
Adamant Nature
IVs: 0 SpA
- Scald / Hydro Pump
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off / Ice Beam

Assault Vest Azu - now with more burning! Not much else changes from the set, as it doesn't have that many special moves that would change things (no Moonblast or even Dazzling Gleam :(( ). I guess you could use Focus Blast, as its Superpower without the drops but more inaccurate. Ice Beam can replace Knock Off if you want, as Ice Beam is a lot stronger than Ice Punch (90 BP vs 75 BP). You can also use Hydro Pump if you want to go all offense, although that's probably better left for the banded set.
Thank you, I will add these to the hide when possible!

You can't reliably predict that Victini will be a Physical attacker like you can in normal play (Valuable), and playing mixed is always sub-optimal -does Victini invest all the way in both its offensive stats and then put its Nature boost into Speed? Does it invest in neither of its offensive stats? Or does it max Speed and invest as equally as possible in both stats? Whatever the case, either its Speed or its offenses suffer, the end. Why would you do this?

---
90% of all Ghosts are happy with this meta. Golurk can replace frickin' Shadow Punch with Shadow Ball, for instance.

Pokemon that have classically liked running mixed sets resent this meta. (Or more precisely that appreciated the aspect of being mixed) I have no idea what that list includes, other than Deoxys Attack.

Mega Metagross loves Physical Grass Knot. Everything dies. Everything.

Special Sucker Punch. Not very useful, but might have niche uses against certain Physically durable Pokemon.

In general, Special priority is suddenly a thing, not just Vacuum Wave.

Belly Drum Slurpuff has got an edge. (Physical Draining Kiss!)

Now Alakazam can surprise you with Special Focus Punch if it likes.

Fire Blast will be better than Fire Punch
Does Mega Medi get Vacuum Wave?
Scald Azu for AV set. If it learns Draining Kiss... BD
Flamethrower for definate is better than Fire Punch, but Fire Blast has low accuracy.
Yes, Mega Medi can now have the option for STAB Priority instead of Bullet Punch...
And Azumarill doesn't learn Draining Kiss.. But if it did..

Also, to keep discussion going,
Do you think Sheer Force should be suspected or even banned? And why?

I'd sooner ban Landorus-Incarnate. Sheer Force is for sure a great Ability in this, but Landorus-Incarnate and Nidoking are the only standard users for whom it's really all that notable (Guts is more powerful on Conkeldurr, Mega Camerupt requires Trick Room support to have any chance at an unstoppable sweep, and Darmanitan is strong, but Fire Blast is actually a downgrade in firepower over Flare Blitz, while Focus Miss is Focus Miss), and Landorus-Incarnate is the only one that's so strong that it might be over-centralizing or ban-worthy. (And indeed it is worrisome that it gets to use Incarnate's superior Attack stat, as opposed to its Special Attack, when it's already very hard-hitting)

Or put another way, I can see ways in which banning Sheer Force would be bad, and can't see a real upside to it, other than maybe getting rid of Landorus-Incarnate, which could be banned individually to get that result.

Medicham @ medichamite
-Psyshock
-HJK
-Vacuum Wave
-Shadow ball

wow. yes, I'll take the deth on a stick with a side order of deth crystals.
