Omastar (Shell Smash)
QC: 3/3 (Arikado, Spirit, atomicllamas)
GP: 2/2 (P Squared, Queez)

Shell Smash
########
name: Shell Smash
move 1: Shell Smash
move 2: Hydro Pump / Surf
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Hidden Power Grass
ability: Weak Armor
item: White Herb
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid

Moves
========

Shell Smash doubles Omastar's Special Attack and Speed, making it an offensive powerhouse that can outspeed the entire unboosted tier and Choice Scarf users with base 89 Speed or lower. Hydro Pump is a powerful Water-type STAB attack, 2HKOing even Cresselia at +2, while Surf is a less powerful but more accurate STAB option. Ice Beam provides strong coverage alongside Hydro Pump or Surf, hitting most Pokemon neutrally save for most Water-types. Hidden Power Grass hits the Water-types that wall Omastar, particularly Alomomola, Lanturn, and Slowking. Alternatively, Hidden Power Fire OHKOes Assault Vest Escavalier after Stealth Rock, as well as Mega Abomasnow without any prior damage.

Set Details
========

Maximum investment in Speed and Special Attack is necessary to make the most of Omastar's sweeping capabilities. Weak Armor gives Omastar another way to boost its Speed, which can help it outrun Choice Scarf Meloetta. It can easily activate Weak Armor due to its high base 125 Defense. White Herb will remove the defense drops from Shell Smash. Alternatively, Lum Berry provides a safety net against crippling status problems that can end Omastar's sweep, while Life Orb gives Omastar a power boost and allows it to nearly always 2HKO Assault Vest Slowking with a +2 Hidden Power Grass.

Usage Tips
========

This set has the role of an excellent late-game cleaner, so be sure to weaken opposing special walls such as Registeel and Slowking before attempting to set up. Even at +2, Omastar fails to outspeed Choice Scarf Meloetta, so be careful around it. Unless Omastar is running Lum Berry, avoid setting up on defensive Pokemon with Thunder Wave such as Cresselia, as Omastar needs the Speed boost from Shell Smash to function. A weakened Omastar can be easily picked off by strong priority moves such as Hitmonlee's Mach Punch, so be sure to take out opposing priority users before sending Omastar in.

Team Options
========

A Fire- or Flying-type such as Emboar or Braviary, respectively, will cover Omastar's weakness to Grass-type Pokemon fairly well. Priority attackers such as Fletchinder will take on the Choice Scarf users that outspeed Omastar at +2, as well as Hitmonlee. A physical attacker will deal with the special walls that even +2 Omastar struggles with. Hitmonlee can take care of Registeel, while Drapion can beat Cresselia and Slowking. Special wallbreakers such as Clawitzer can also wear down Registeel and Slowking in order to make it easier for Omastar to clean up. A Pursuit user such as Skuntank or Spiritomb helps to eliminate Slowking, Bronzong, and Cresselia, all of which wall Omastar. A Pokemon with Volt Absorb such as Jolteon or Lanturn will happily absorb any Volt Switch or Thunder Wave used against Omastar.

Checks and Counters
========

**Revenge Killers**: Pokemon with powerful priority attacks such as Hitmonlee can easily pick off a weakened Omastar. Moreover, because Omastar fails to outspeed Choice Scarf users with base 90 Speed or more, it is very vulnerable to being revenge killed by Meloetta and Durant.

**Assault Vest Users**: Pokemon that commonly hold Assault Vest such as Slowking, Eelektross, and Druddigon can survive a +2 attack from Omastar and deal serious damage back to it with an appropriate coverage move.

Remove Focus Sash from set details and possibly add White Herb to the slashes. If there was any term to describe what SS Omastar would suffer from, it would be "item syndrome", because it can run all 3 of Lum Berry, White Herb, and Life Orb, and all have their good and bad sides, so yeah... basically I want to see White Herb slash or at least replace Focus Sash in set details with that. I might take a look again at this later but this week is the busiest i've been in my life so yeah.

Done. We need to make "item syndrome" an official term!

"- This set is made for late-game cleaning, when the Grass- and Fighting-types that prevent Omastar from setting up have been weakened and defeated"

Just Fighting-types with mach punch.. so just hitmonlee really.

"- Avoid setting up on defensive Pokemon with Thunder Wave, such as Cresselia or Registeel, as Omastar needs the Speed boost from Shell Smash to function"

unless it's using Lum Berry, where you can actually set up on those moves.

In usage tips also add: only set up after certain Pokemon (like registeel, slowking, etc) have either been weakened or eliminated.

In team options along with physical attackers also mention wallbreakers in general.

I'm a bit shaky on Life Orb being on the set, let alone being the main slash... make it the last, possibly remove it and just make a mention in set details, I'll let other QC decide o.o

i prefer white herb over anything, considering omastar is actually bulky enough to take multiple priority moves, i'd prefer to capitalize on that

lum should be put in set details

no opinion on lo so it's w/e i guess

do the above and u get qc 2/3

edit: hp fire in moves, kos mega aboma and av escav after sr
Thank you! Writing this up now.

Would it be worth it to go over c&c and update that too? because SS omastar is kinda huge and the current c&c is only for countering the lead set.

for reference:

**Cinccino**: Cinccino is able to cleanly OHKO Omastar with Bullet Seed through its Focus Sash.

**Hitmonlee and Hitmontop**: Hitmonlee and Hitmontop are able to bring Omastar down to its Focus Sash with their STAB Fighting-type moves. They can then either follow up with Rapid Spin to KO Omastar while removing the entry hazards it has set or use Mach Punch if Omastar chose to attack on the first turn.

**Faster Special Attackers**: Special attackers that can outspeed and 2HKO Omastar will prevent it from setting up more than one layer of entry hazards, but they must be wary of being hit hard by one of Omastar's attacks.

**Fast Physical Attackers**: Powerful physical attackers that are able to outspeed +1 Omastar and 2HKO it can also prevent it from setting up more than one layer of entry hazards, but they also must be careful of simply being attacked.

Shell Smash raises Omastar's Special Attack to 658, and its Speed to 458, outspeeding the entire unboosted tier and Choice Scarf users with base 89 Speed or lower.
Nitpicky I guess but I don't think you need to say exactly what stat it hits after smash, just say something like "shell smash doubles omastars special attack and speed"

Aside from that this looks good imo.

As you know you have to remove mentions of Moltres, but otherwise this seems fine, QC approved 3/3

I also agree w/ B&B that the specific SpA and speed stats aren't entirely necessary and that you could say "doubles these stats" and "outspeeds entire unboosted tier".
