NU Omastar

Overview
########

Omastar has access to every entry hazard except for Sticky Web; arguably the best boosting move in the game, Shell Smash; and a wide array of attacking moves such as Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, and Earth Power. Omastar also has high Special Attack and Defense stats, as well as usable abilities in Swift Swim and Weak Armor. However, Omastar is held back by its low special bulk, making it hard to use against special attackers. And while Omastar has good defensive typing in most cases, that typing also gives it a 4x weakness to Grass-type attacks.

Entry Hazard Setter
########
name: Entry Hazard Setter
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Spikes
move 3: Scald
move 4: Ice Beam / Stone Edge / Icy Wind
ability: Weak Armor
item: Focus Sash
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid / Naive

Moves
========

Stealth Rock and Spikes are both great entry hazards that can slowly wear down the opponent's team. Scald is a good STAB move that is mostly used for the high burn chance, which can potentially cripple physical threats such as Feraligatr and Sawk. Ice Beam is a good coverage move that hits Dragalge and Grass-types hard. Stone Edge with a Naive nature is also an option in order to 2HKO Mantine and Cryogonal. Icy Wind is also viable, as it slows down potential sweepers. Ancient Power hits physically defensive Mantine, and is a good secondary STAB move that has a small chance to raise all of Omastar's stats. Lastly, Toxic Spikes can be used over Omastar's second coverage move in order to set a hazard that poisons the opponent's Pokemon.

Set Details
========

A Focus Sash guarantees that Omastar sets up at least one entry hazard. Weak Armor is the chosen ability as it gives Omastar a free Speed boost if Omastar is hit with a physical attack. Max Special Attack investment lets Omastar hit as hard as possible before it faints, while the rest of the EVs are put in Speed with a Timid nature to be as quick as possible. A Naive nature should be used if Stone Edge is run.

Usage Tips
========

This set functions best as a lead. Stealth Rock should be the first entry hazard used, as there tier contains are many Stealth Rock-weak Pokemon, such as Vivillion and Typhlosion. Spikes should be used next. Omastar can use its offensive presence to deter setup sweepers and/or opposing hazard setters, which is one of the things that makes Omastar a good hazard setter.

Team Options
========

Spinblockers such as Mismagius, Spiritomb, Rotom, and Haunter can help keep Omastar's entry hazards up as long as possible. Pawniard is also a good teammate, as it gets a free Defiant boost from switching into Defog. Although Omastar doesn't need to stay on the field as long as possible, teammates such as Bouffalant and Sawsbuck can take advantage of a predicted Grass-type move and get a free Attack boost from Sap Sipper. Lastly, sweepers such as Feraligatr can make great use of Omastar's hazards, as they can score more OHKOs with them.

Shell Smash
########
name: Shell Smash
move 1: Shell Smash
move 2: Hydro Pump
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Hidden Power Grass
ability: Weak Armor
item: Life Orb / Lum Berry
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid

Moves
========

Shell Smash boosts both Omastar's Special Attack and Speed stats. Hydro Pump is an insanely powerful STAB move, especially after a Shell Smash. Ice Beam hits Flying- and Grass-types. Hidden Power Grass hits Water-types, most notably Seimsitoad. Earth Power can be used to hit Lanturn harder, but Hidden Power Grass generally offers better coverage.

Set Details
========

A Timid nature with 252 Speed EVs maxes out Omastar's Speed, making it very fast after a Shell Smash. 252 Special Attack EVs maximize Omastar's damage output. Weak Armor works well with Shell Smash, as Omastar can take a physical hit and Shell Smash on the same turn, bringing it to +3 Speed. A Lum Berry is the preferred item to stop crippling paralysis and sleep, though a Life Orb can be used to hit even harder.

Usage Tips
========

Omastar is usually pretty strong before a Shell Smash, so attacking without setting up and switching out is usually ideal before every check and counter to it is gone, as Omastar doesn't want to be forced out after setting up. Omastar can force switches on Pokemon such as Pyroar and Magmortar and then set up on the switch. It's best to set up on Choice-locked Fire-types such as Typhlosion, weaker walls such as Granbull, weaker physical attackers such as Crustle, and setup sweepers that haven't set up yet, such as Swords Dance Feraligatr.

Team Options
========

Omastar does a fantastic job of luring in Grass-types, so Sawsbuck and Bouffalant are great teammates, as they can take a Grass-type move for a free Attack boost with Sap Sipper. Dragalge can use Sludge Wave to get rid of Ludicolo, which can shrug off any of Omastar's attacks even after a Shell Smash. Dual screens support lets Omastar set up much more easily. Wallbreakers such as Typhlosion and Magmortar are great partners as they can eliminate Omastar's checks and counters very easily. Entry hazards from Pokemon such as Accelgor and Crustle are great, as they can wear down Omastar's checks. One layer of Spikes can assure the 2HKO on Spiritomb with an unboosted Hydro Pump, and increases the chance of a 2HKO on Dragalge with an unboosted Ice Beam to 85%.

Other Options
########

Ancient Power could be used as a STAB move on the Shell Smash set, but Ice Beam hits most of the relevant threats Ancient Power hits, apart from physically defensive Mantine. Omastar can lure in Ferroseed and do some major damage to it with Hidden Power Fire. Omastar has good enough physical bulk to run a physically defensive set, but it would much rather be doing other things. A Swift Swim set with a Life Orb or Lum Berry can work, as a Hydro Pump under rain hits like a nuke. Shell Armor and a White Herb can help Omastar retain more bulk after using Shell Smash.

Checks & Counters
########

**Taunt**: Taunt users such as Liepard can hurt entry hazard-setting Omastar by preventing it from doing its job.

**Special Walls**: Special walls such as Hariyama, Dragalge, and Lanturn can take Omastar's attacks well.

**Ludicolo**: Ludicolo can take any hit from Omastar even after Shell Smash and OHKO it with a Grass-type STAB move.

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types such as Lanturn laugh at Omastar's attacks unless it packs Hidden Power Grass. Mantine gets a special mention as it takes low damage from any of Omastar's attacks, apart from Stone Edge.

**Bullet Seed**: Users of Bullet Seed such as Cacturne and Torterra can use it to OHKO lead Omastar because Bullet Seed breaks its Focus Sash.

**Revenge Killers**: Revenge killers such as Rotom, Choice Scarf users such as Pyroar, and priority users such as Gurdurr can check Shell Smash Omastar.

**Defog**: Swanna, Pelipper, Togetic, Vullaby, and Mantine can all outspeed Omastar and use Defog to render its entry hazards useless.

Mysteria Braviary isnt NU.

Slash Lum Berry with White Herb on the Shell Smash set.

Don't mention AV/Specs in OO. Instead, mention Stone Edge with a Naive nature for the Lead set to hit Mantine and Cryogonal, and Icy Wind to slow down stuff.

Hidden Power Fire in OO to lure Ferroseed.

Mention Toxic Spikes somewhere too

will check later

EDIT: mention a Physically Defensive Omastar in OO too :)

ancientpower is also an option for the hazards set since it hits pelipper xatu and def mantine harder

you dont need to mention that ice beam hits seisnitoad cuz that does 0 but mention that it hits grass types and xatu

mention that users should beware of bullet seed users (most common are torterra and cacturne)

- Taunt users such as Liepard can shut down opposing defoggers
- Braviary is a good teammate as it can switch into Defog and get a Defiant boost
- Mismagius blocks Rapid Spin
- Bouffalant and Sawsbuck suck Grass-type moves with Sap Sipper
Why are you trying to tease me with that.. Now you have me wishing Brav was still NU and I'm all sad :[

Remove that, remove the mention of AV and specs from OO [cause someone might actually try it]..
Also, slash both abilities on the SS set. explain while both are generally useless, Swift Swim alows you to beat Rain teams [which are super common atm], and Shell armor protects vs the rare critical hit.

Other than that it looks fine, tag me when you have that done :]

Deslash AncientPower from the first set and put it into Moves. Stone Edge is generally better because it actually hurts Mantine and kills Cryo, and that's not even slashed so yeah. Deslash Earth Power from Shell Smash, its only target is Lanturn and HP Grass hits a wider range of targets. Move EP to Moves. Also Weak Armor shoul the only ability with White Herb in OO; Weak Armor + Smash gives you a potential +3 boost to Speed which lets you outspeed pretty much all Scarfers. Put Lum first and then LO slashed with it. Swift Swim can also be mentioned in OO.

No I think you misread: Shell Smash should have Lum and LO listed as the items, and Weak Armor should be the ability. White Herb + Shell Armor can go into OO. Swift Swim too, but give that its own separate mention.

Also I didn't really mean Stone Edge gets a full slash, but that's up to you if you want to keep it I guess.

Outside of that:

[Overview]
  • Its typing isn't really "bad" defensively, as it's useful for setting up on Choiced Normal- and Fire-types as well as Flying-types, all of which are pretty nice.
  • You should almost mention its poor SpD which makes it difficult to stack hazards / set up SS against special attackers.
[Usage Tips] (Lead)
  • This is all kind of vague. You should note that Omastar can use its good offensive presence and coverage for deterring setup, since it's always found on HO teams that tend to struggle with boosted sweepers if they can actually set up, so that trait is rather useful.
[Team Options] (Lead)
  • Mention more spinblockers than Mismagius because that's far from the only one: Tomb, Rotom, Haunter, etc are all viable choices depending on the team and should be considered. Add Pawniard too since it helps punish Defog and honestly there's only so many Taunters in the tier (and Taunt Liepard is pretty awful for HO).
  • How can you only have Bouff and Sawsbuck as the only two potential sweepers? It's not like they even ~need~ to synergize with Omastar because it's a suicide lead, so "covering its weaknesses" is pointless. You don't even need to mention those two (at least in particular): add in stuff like Gatr, Slurpuff, Lilligant, whatever. Wallbreakers like Choice Specs Typhlosion and LO Mesprit also love the support. You know, just general stuff you see on HO.
[Set] (Shell Smash)
  • Again, the set should have Lum and LO with Weak Armor. Make sure to change Set Details accordingly as well.
[Usage Tips] (Shell Smash)
  • Again, really vague here. Mention that early- to mid-game it's generally better off just attacking or switching rather than setting up to try and weaken its checks and counters. It's still pretty strong even before a boost and has good coverage so it's not complete deadweight.
  • Give more detail into what it can set up on: weaker physical attackers, Choiced Fire-types, weaker walls, etc.
[Team Options] (Shell Smash)
  • Mention entry hazards. Setup sweepers love hazards because it lets them wear away at their counters to break through them, and this is no exception. Good examples include: Accelgor, Crustle, Garbodor, Ferroseed, and so on.
  • Toss in wallbreakers as good partners as well. Stuff like Specs Typhlosion and Magmortar are good at whittling away at checks to Omastar to open up a sweep for it.
[Checks and Counters]
  • You need to list some actual Taunters, just saying Taunt stops it means nothing.
  • Uxie and Audino are awful examples of walls because they're setup fodder for Lum variants.
  • Add Lanturn to bulky Waters.
  • Add revenge killers as checks to Shell Smash sets.

Your Shell Smash set still needs to be fixed. Implement Dat Blast's changes ie. Life Orb / Lum with Weak Armor and expand on why Weak Armor is the chosen ability. Remove Shell Armor completely and Swift Swim can be shifted to OO as an ability if used on rain teams; countering rain teams isn't too valid because they have SwSw Ludicolo or Seismitoad 100% of the time

Team Options for both sets:
Make a note of important KOs entry hazards provide. This is less important for the first set but it'll be good to mention how hazards helps partners wear down bulky stuff. For the second stuff list some important KOs hazards help grab.

Checks and Counters:
Don't list Musharna as a special wall. It commonly doesn't run a specially defensive set and can't do much but TWave anyway, which Lum variants beat. Special walls/tanks that beat Omastar would include stuff like Dragalge, Hariyama, Lanturn.

overview:

remove the slow mention, base 55 with Timid isn't that slow for NU, and it has access to Weak Armor and / or Shell Smash if you nee it to go faster.

OO:

Shell Armor with a White Herb and Shell Smash to stop Omastar from being a glass cannon after Shell Smash
Just say Shell Armor + White Herb can be used to take it more easily at the cost of power or the ability to set up on a potential Toxic / Thunder Wave. Omastar isn't really a glass cannon at -1

252+ Atk Gurdurr Mach Punch vs. -1 4 HP / 0 Def Omastar: 152-182 (53.9 - 64.53%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Mystic Water Feraligatr Aqua Jet vs. -1 4 HP / 0 Def Omastar: 93-109 (32.97 - 38.65%) -- 99.78% chance to 3HKO

Checks & Counters

**Bulky Water-types** Pokemon such as Lanturn laugh at Omastar's attacks unless it packs Hidden Power Grass. Mantine gets a special mention as it takes no damage from any attack of Omastar
It doesn't really enjoy taking a Stone Edge.

Add stuff for revenge killers, such as priority and other Choice Scarf users that can outspeed it, like Scarf Pyroar, Gurdurr, Feraligatr, Haunter.

Oh and add Defog somewhere. Pelipper, Vullaby, and Togetic can easily Defog all over Omastar. Mantine and Swanna can also beat Omastar easily if it doesn't carry Stone Edge.

Do this and I will check later :)

Overview
########

Omastar is a great Pokemon. It has many options at its disposal, such as having access to each every entry hazard except Sticky Web, access to arguably the best boosting move in the game, (comma) Shell Smash, and a wide array of attacking moves such as Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, and Earth Power. Omastar also has high Special Attack and Defense stats, as well as usable abilities in Swift Swim and Weak Armor. However, Omastar is held back by its low special bulk, making it hard to use its full potential against special attackers. And while Omastar has a good defensive typing in most cases such as against Choice-locked Fire-types, it can backfire sometimes with its quad-weakness that typing also gives it a 4x weakness to Grass-type attacks.

Hazard Setter

move 3: Scald
move 4: Ice Beam / Stone Edge / Icy Wind

nature: Timid / Naive

Moves
========

Stealth Rock and Spikes are both great entry hazards that slowly wear down the opponent's team. Scald is obligatory, as it is a good STAB move that is mostly used for the high burn chance, which can potentially cripple physical threats such as Feraligatr and Sawk. Ice Beam is a good coverage move that hits Dragalge and Grass-types relatively hard. Stone Edge with Omastar using a Naive nature is also an option to 2HKO Mantine and Cryogonal. Icy Wind is also viable as it slows down potential sweepers. Ancient Power hits physically defensive Mantine, and is a good secondary STAB move that has a small chance to raise all of Omastar's stats. Lastly, Toxic Spikes can be used over Omastar's second coverage move to set a hazard that poisons the opponent's Pokemon.

Set Details
========

A Focus Sash Weak Armor is the chosen ability, because it always leaves Omastar at 1 HP, guaranteesing that Omastar sets up an entry hazard. Weak Armor is the chosen ability as it gives Omastar a free Speed boost works well with this, because if Omastar is hit with a physical move hit and brought down to 1 HP, it essentially a free Speed boost. Max Special Attack investment with a Modest (the listed natures are Timid and Naive) nature lets Omastar hit as hard as possible before it is faintsed, while the rest of the EVs is are put in Speed to be as quick as possible after a Weak Armor Speed boost. A Naive nature must be used if Stone Edge is run being used.

Usage Tips
========

This set functions best as a lead. Stealth Rock is best prioritized as should be the first entry hazard used, as there tier contains are many Stealth Rock-weak (dash) Pokemon, (comma) in the tier such as Vivillion and Typhlosion. Spikes is prioritized after Stealth Rock for an extra hazard should be used next. Omastar can use its offensive presence to deter setup sweepers or and hazard setters, which is one of the things that makes Omastar a good hazard setter compared to other hazard setters.

Team Options

Spinblockers such as Mismagius, Spiritomb, Rotom, and Haunter can block Rapid Spin, which helps keep Omastar's entry hazards up as long as possible. Pawniard is also a good teammate as it gets a free Defiant boost by switching into Defog. Although Omastar doesn't need to stay on the field as long as possible, teammates such as Bouffalant and Sawsbuck can take advantage of a predicted Grass-type move and get a free Attack boost from Sap Sipper. Lastly, sweepers such as Feraligatr make great use of the Omastar's hazards, as they can score more common OHKOs with them.

Moves
========

Shell Smash is the primary move, boostsing both Omastar's Special Attacking and Speed stats. Hydro Pump is an insanely powerful STAB move, especially after a Shell Smash. Ice Beam hits Flying- and Grass-types. Hidden Power Grass hits Water-types, most notably Seimsitoad. Earth Power can be used to hit Lanturn harder, but Hidden Power Grass is usually offers more coverage more ideal.

Set Details

Overview

And while Omastar has a good defensive typing in most cases, that typing also gives it a 4x weakness to Grass-type attacks.

Entry Hazard Setter
########
name: Entry Hazard Setter
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Spikes
move 3: Scald
move 4: Ice Beam / Stone Edge / Icy Wind
ability: Weak Armor
item: Focus Sash
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid / Naive

Moves
========

Stone Edge with Omastar using a Naive nature is also an option in order to 2HKO Mantine and Cryogonal.

Set Details
========

A Focus Sash guarantees that Omastar sets up an at least one entry hazard. Weak Armor is the chosen ability as it gives Omastar a free Speed boost if Omastar is hit with a physical move attack. Max Special Attack investment lets Omastar hit as hard as possible before it faints, while the rest of the EVs are put in Speed with a Timid nature to be as quick as possible. A Naive nature must should be used if Stone Edge is run.

Usage Tips
========

========

Spinblockers such as Mismagius, Spiritomb, Rotom, and Haunter can help keep Omastar's entry hazards up as long as possible. Pawniard is also a good teammate, as it gets a free Defiant boost by from switching into Defog. Although Omastar doesn't need to stay on the field as long as possible, teammates such as Bouffalant and Sawsbuck can take advantage of a predicted Grass-type move and get a free Attack boost from Sap Sipper. Lastly, sweepers such as Feraligatr can make great use of Omastar's hazards, as they can score more OHKOs with them.

Shell Smash
########
name: Shell Smash
move 1: Shell Smash
move 2: Hydro Pump
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Hidden Power Grass
ability: Weak Armor
item: Life Orb / Lum Berry
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid

Moves
========

Shell Smash boosts both Omastar's Special Attack and Speed stats. Hydro Pump is an insanely powerful STAB move, especially after a Shell Smash. Ice Beam hits Flying- and Grass-types. Hidden Power Grass hits Water-types, most notably Seimsitoad. Earth Power can be used to hit Lanturn harder, but Hidden Power Grass usually generally offers more better coverage.

Set Details
========

A Timid nature with 252 Speed EVs maxes out Omastar's Speed, making it very fast after a Shell Smash. 252 Special Attack EVs maximize Omastar's Special Attack damage output. Weak Armor works well with Shell Smash, as Omastar can take a physical hit and Shell Smash in on the same turn, bringing it to +3 Speed. A Lum Berry is the best preferred item to stop crippling paralysis and sleep, while though a Life Orb can be used to hit even harder.

Usage Tips
========

Omastar is usually pretty strong before a Shell Smash, so attacking without setting up and switching out is usually ideal until before every check or and counter to it is gone, as Omastar doesn't want to be forced out after setting up. Omastar can force switches against on Pokemon such as Pyroar and Magmortar and then set up on the switch. It's best to set up on Choice-locked Fire-types such as Typhlosion, weaker walls such as Granbull, weaker physical attackers such as Crustle, and setup sweepers that haven't set up yet, such as Swords Dance Feraligatr.

Team Options
========

Omastar does a fantastic job at of luring in Grass-types, so Sawsbuck and Bouffalant are great teammates, as they can take a Grass-type move for a free Attack boost with Sap Sipper. Dragalge can use Sludge Wave to get rid of Ludicolo, which can shrug off any of Omastar's attacks even after a Shell Smash. Dual screens support lets Omastar set up much more easily. Wallbreakers such as Typhlosion or and Magmortar are great partners as they can eliminate Omastar's checks and counters very easily.

Omastar has good enough physical bulk to run a physically defensive set, but Omastar it would much rather be doing other things. A Swift Swim set with a Life Orb or Lum Berry can work, as a Hydro Pump under rain hits like a nuke. Shell Armor with and a White Herb can let help Omastar retain more bulk after using Shell Smash.
