Jellicent @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 216 SpD / 44 Spe
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Taunt
- Recover
- Ice Beam

252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 216+ SpD Jellicent: 161-191 (39.9 - 47.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Hurricane vs. 248 HP / 216+ SpD Jellicent: 138-164 (34.2 - 40.6%) -- 44.4% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
-2 252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 216+ SpD Jellicent: 82-97 (20.3 - 24%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

Comes in and takes hits from Noivern well as shown in the calcs above and can just Recover up to continue doing so in later parts of the game. Ice Beam to be able to hit Noivern for 4x super-effective damage, essentially this:

0 SpA Jellicent Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Noivern: 272-324 (87.4 - 104.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Also, last round had two Pokemon as counters who moved up to UU, so I replaced Doublade with Togetic (michaeloche) and Cresselia with Exeggutor (49), with Gourgest-S as an honourable mention (tehy)

Let's keep this project alive boys :o

Articuno @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Haze
- Roost
- Heal Bell
- Freeze-Dry

Articuno is a very solid counter to life orb Noivern thanks to its high special bulk and typing advantage. Articuno can switch into any of Noivern's moves easily and is not even 2HKO'ed by any of Noivern's moves. A single freeze dry from Articuno OHKO's Noivern making Articuno a solid counter to Noivern.

Calculations:

252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Articuno: 140-165 (36.4 - 42.9%) -- 96.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Articuno: 118-140 (30.7 - 36.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Articuno: 130-153 (33.8 - 39.8%) -- 24.2% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

4 SpA Articuno Freeze-Dry vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Noivern: 352-420 (113.1 - 135%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Cradily as a Soft Counter / Hard Check

Cradily @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Rock Slide
- Recover
- Stealth Rock
- Giga Drain Swords Dance

252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Cradily: 133-156 (35.3 - 41.4%) -- 73.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Cradily: 156-185 (41.4 - 49.2%)

0 Atk Cradily Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Noivern: 164-194 (52.7 - 62.3%)

As you can see, Cradily eats up the hits like they were some mac n cheese, with judicious application of Recover wiping away anything Noivern can do. However, Cradily is forced to recover a bit much for my liking, opening up the door to HurriConfusion, so I won't call it a hard counter. Additionally, Cradily can set up SR to impede Noivern's switch-ins in the future.

However, it's time to talk about the bolded elephant in the room:Swords Dance. Why Swords Dance, alongside Stealth Rock of all things? Did I really just slap on a move to defeat Noivern for the purposes of this project, without thinking about the set's function in reality?

Well...actually, I slapped it on to defeat Sigilyph without caring about how the set's function is diminished. (Similarly to Noivern, Sigilyph can Roost to laugh at Rock Slide, and even stall you out of Rock Slide PP!) Luckily, it's been on for a while and the answer to 'how much does Cradily lose' turned out to be 'not even that much lol'. Basically, Cradily doesn't find itself needing its Grass STAB too often, especially since Pokemon like Seismitoad, Rhyperior, and Gastrodon aren't exactly eager to stick around and find out what Cradily's packing. Swords Dance should really only be revealed against Sigilyph, or a Defogger such as Physically Defensive Golbat or Togetic cheekily trying to remove your Stealth Rock, or perhaps SubCM Meloetta (though this should not be your primary check to SubCM melo). Although you will very rarely-if ever-sweep with this Cradily, Swords Dance is just a neat utility move, which fits on Cradily's moveset because its moveset is kind of barren.

+2 0 Atk Cradily Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Noivern: 326-386 (104.8 - 124.1%) innovated

Glalie @ Glalite
Ability: Refrigerate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Jolly / Naive Nature
- Double-Edge / Return
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake / Super Fang / Spikes / Explosion / Freeze Dry / Taunt
- Earthquake / Super Fang / Spikes / Explosion / Freeze Dry / Taunt

Man this thing learns a lot, not that they all matter because the only thing it needs to beat Noivern is Ice Shard. Although switching in isn't the next idea (unless you're a good player and can predict Hurricane misses) Mega Glalie can serve as one of the many few checks for Noivern on offense by being able to revenge it with Ice Shard.
252 Atk Mega Glalie Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Noivern: 304-360 (97.7 - 115.7%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO (guranteed after rocks or life orb)

cooler than cool. only way noivern breaks it is through connecting w/2 consecutive focus blasts after sr + a protect turn iirc, so this tends to favour regice 9 times out of 10. it's also neat b.c most things that force out thing are either super passive or momo food, and this isn't so much!

edit: 60 def evs ensure it takes a a cbgon's outrage after sr, which is moderately useful. doesn't need max spa that much, and i like to run these kinds of 'mons fat before i push spa investments

Togetic @ Eviolite
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Dazzling Gleam / Seismic Toss
- Thunder Wave / Toxic / Heal Bell

So I'm fairly new to getting intertwined into the Rarely Used Metagame after the tier shifts, but I am used to participating in this thread on the PU Forums. I'm posting Togetic as a Hard Check to Soft Counter based upon rocks damage and damage from Hurricane. Togetic can't switch into a Hurricane when Stealth Rock is on its side of the field seeing as it will get 2HKO'd, but if rocks aren't up it can stall out Hurricane or wait for a miss and get solid damage off with Dazzling Gleam or Seismic Toss. It can also cripple Noivern by using Thunder Wave on it and lowering its speed or using Toxic to compromise its already small longevity.

252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Hurricane vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Togetic: 121-144 (38.6 - 46%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Flamethrower vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Togetic: 66-79 (21 - 25.2%) -- 0.3% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Togetic Seismic Toss vs. 0 HP Noivern: 100-100 (32.1 - 32.1%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
0 SpA Togetic Dazzling Gleam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Noivern: 170-204 (54.6 - 65.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Nominating Aromatisse as a Counter

Aromatisse @ Leftovers
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy
- Wish
- Protect

Aromatisse has access to a high HP stat and also a relatively high SpDef stat. It's typing in Fairy is immune to Dragon, meaning it can switch in on a predicted Draco Meteor. A SpDef Aromatisse won't have a hard time switching in on Noivern's moves barring STAB Hurricanes, but even at that it's still shaky.

252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Aromatisse: 149-177 (36.6 - 43.5%) -- 99.3% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Aromatisse: 149-177 (36.6 - 43.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock, 3 layers of Spikes, and Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Aromatisse: 81-96 (19.9 - 23.6%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

4 SpA Aromatisse Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Noivern: 246-290 (79 - 93.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

It can switch in on any of Noivern's moves (even after SR and Spikes) and proceed to 2HKO it. Aromatisse can also use Wish+Protect for recovery if needed

Tyrantrum as a Check

Tyrantrum @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Head Smash
- Outrage
- Superpower
- Earthquake

This is just a standard Choice Scarf Tyrantrum set. With a Choice Scarf, Tyrantrum outspeeds the entire unboosted tier bar Accelgor iirc and it hits very hard, even without an Attack boosting item. Tyrantrum acts as a revenge killer, though it can switch in on a predicted Hurricane, Air Slash, Flamethrower, Roost, etc and proceed to OHKO with Head Smash or Outrage. Tyrantrum really can't take repeated Hurricanes due to its low special bulk and many Noiverns just click Draco Meteor so switching Tyrantrum directly into Noivern is very risky. It's one of the few checks to Noivern on offensive teams and is very solid overall.

252 Atk Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Noivern: 560-660 (180 - 212.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Tyrantrum Outrage vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Noivern: 446-528 (143.4 - 169.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Draco Meteor vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Tyrantrum: 689-814 (225.1 - 266%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Hurricane vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Tyrantrum: 146-172 (47.7 - 56.2%) -- 83.2% chance to 2HKO

Mega Steelix as a hard check

Steelix-Mega @ Steelixite
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Atk / 88 Spe or 252 HP / 204 Atk / 52 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Heavy Slam
- Earthquake
- Roar

Fairly simple, Mega Steelix resists both of Tyrantrum's STAB moves [4x resists Head Smash lol] and avoids the 2HKO from Superpower. While it does have to be wary of Superpower, it prevents Tyrantrum from freely clicking Head Smash, what it usually likes to do. The first EV spread outspeeds uninvested Rhyperior and Togetic as well as 44 spe Spiritomb, and the second spread avoids the 2HKO from Specs Explouds Boomburst after rocks.

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Steelix: 45-54 (12.7 - 15.2%) -- possible 7HKO after Stealth Rock ayy lmao

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Superpower vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Steelix: 196-232 (55.3 - 65.5%) -- 84.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
which then turns to
-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Superpower vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Steelix: 132-156 (37.2 - 44%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

With max rolls, it does 2HKO albeit not guaranteed.

Virizion is a Check

Virizion @ Lum Berry / Focus Sash
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Zen Headbutt / Stone Edge

While Virizion can't switch into any move that Tyrantrum will use, it can deal an absurd amount of damage to it as well as outspeeding it. Close Combat has a small change to OHKO without rocks or prior damage, and it is around an 88% chance with Stealth Rock on the field.

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Virizion: 251-296 (77.7 - 91.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Outrage vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Virizion: 402-474 (124.4 - 146.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Dragon Claw vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Virizion: 268-316 (82.9 - 97.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Cobalion as a Check

Cobalion @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Iron Head
- Substitute

Cobalion can take a Head Smash extremely well and it has a good chance to OHKO Tyrantrum with Close Combat after Stealth Rock. Cobalion should be wary of Earthquake and Superpower, but it has a really good chance of avoiding the OHKO from Earthquake. Cobalion can also take an Outrage nicely, but if Tyrantrum avoids the OHKO from Cobalion, it can KO it with the second Outrage after Close Combat's defense drops. If KOing Tyrantrum is important then Iron Head will 2HKO Tyrantrum and Cobalion will avoid the 2HKO from Outrage that way. Plus, Iron Head can flinch. Tyrantrum clicks Head Smash most of the time, so Cobalion is a pretty safe check to it.
252 Atk Cobalion Close Combat vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tyrantrum: 264-312 (86.2 - 101.9%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Cobalion: 76-90 (23.5 - 27.8%)
252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. -1 0 HP / 4 Def Cobalion: 115-136 (35.6 - 42.1%)

Reserving Gurdurr

Gurdurr as a check

Gurdurr @ Eviolite
Ability: Guts
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Mach Punch
- Bulk Up
- Knock Off
- Drain Punch

Can switch into all of tyrantrum attacks, avoiding the 2hko from all of them except for outrage (easy 2hko but outrage is pretty exploitable with a fairy around thankfully) and proceed to kill it with the combination of drain punch + mach punch. As said outrage is an easy 2hko so you gotta be careful with it.

Tyrantrum against Gurdurr:

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Superpower vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Gurdurr: 157-185 (41.9 - 49.4%) -- 24.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Gurdurr: 130-154 (34.7 - 41.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Gurdurr: 147-173 (39.3 - 46.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Outrage 2hkos, dragon claw has a low chance of 2hkoing after stealth rock damage

Gurdurr against Tyrantrum:

252+ Atk Gurdurr Drain Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tyrantrum: 200-236 (65.3 - 77.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Scrafty as Check

Scrafty @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick / Drain Punch
- Poison Jab
- Knock Off
- Dragon Dance

With CB Tyrantrum Scrafty can come in on a Head smash or after an Intimidate take one hit then DD then just KO it with any fighting move of choice (Drain Punch needs at least two DDs if Jolly to KO while HJK at least has a chance with no boosts even if jolly) twothough Superpower does have a chance to KO it so you might have until it uses Superpower then come in or come in on any other move

Calcs:
-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Outrage vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Scrafty: 181-214 (66.7 - 78.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Scrafty: 101-119 (37.2 - 43.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

I'm going to take a different route with Scrafty:

Scrafty @ Choice Band
Ability: Initmidate
EVs: 196 HP / 252 Atk / 60 Spe
Adamant Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Knock Off
- Iron Head / Poison Jab
- Drain Punch / Zen Headbutt

Choice Band Scrafty can be a nice check to Choice Band Tyrantrum thanks to Intimidate, Rock resistance, and neutrality to all of the 4th slot coverage moves (4x resistance to Crunch) As for the moves Scrafty can't handle upon switch-in, those would be Outrage (powerful neutral STAB) and Superpower (super effective coverage move) However, with the given EV spread, Scrafty is guaranteed to survive any one hit after Stealth Rock. While this won't help upon direct switch-in, this does mean Scrafty is free to come in off of a KO for a pseudo-revenge kill. The moves are pretty basic. HJK and Drain Punch are your ways of OHKOing Tyrantrum, though do note that you'll need Stealth Rock support to guarantee the OHKO with Drain Punch. Knock Off doesn't help much vs. Tyrantrum, but it's a spammable move Scrafty can utilize effectively. Iron Head and Poison Jab are for Fairies. I personally prefer Iron Head for Band Scrafty as it has 0 immunities, thus making it at least a little safer to lock into if you predict a Fairy switch-in. Finally, Zen Headbutt can be used if you want Scrafty to bowl over Qwilfish, Weezing and the like. However, Knock Off is generally doing enough to cripple these threats as it is since they lack reliable recovery outside of Black Sludge. The EVs maximize power and bulk while letting Scrafty outspeed Alomomola. Relevant calcs:

-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 196 HP / 0 Def Scrafty: 114-134 (35.6 - 41.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Earthquake vs. 196 HP / 0 Def Scrafty: 102-120 (31.8 - 37.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Dragon Claw vs. 196 HP / 0 Def Scrafty: 121-144 (37.8 - 45%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Outrage vs. 196 HP / 0 Def Scrafty: 183-216 (57.1 - 67.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock. that hurts
-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Superpower vs. 196 HP / 0 Def Scrafty: 244-288 (76.2 - 90%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock. that hurts worse
Do I really need to show Crunch?

252+ Atk Choice Band Scrafty High Jump Kick vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tyrantrum: 468-552 (152.9 - 180.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Scrafty Drain Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tyrantrum: 270-320 (88.2 - 104.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Dugtrio as a check

Since Dugtrio is as frail as paper, it can't switch into any of Tyrantrum's attacks (can anything on this tier really? lol) except a Head Smash miss if you're a god. But thanks to Arena Trap, Dugtrio guarantees the revenge kill since Tyrantrum can't switch out. With Stealth rock, Dugtrio has a great chance to kill with a life orb set (100% with Band although that's not the best set).
252 Atk Life Orb Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tyrantrum: 265-315 (86.6 - 102.9%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Choice Band Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tyrantrum: 306-360 (100 - 117.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO[\Hide]

Flygon as a check

Flygon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 12 Atk / 244 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast / Iron Tail
- Roost

Outspeeds and OHKOs with Draco Meteor. This can't switch into tyrantrum, but if you're at 100% you can live one head smash, superpower or crunch (though the latter two have a small chance to OHKO after rocks) if you're really in a pinch. Can also take advantage of an EQ-locked Tyrantrum. If you're paranoid about missing Draco or you'd like to avoid the -2 spatk if possible, you can run a spread of 104 Atk / 152 SpA / 252 Spe to OHKO Tyrantrum 100% of the time after rocks.

152+ SpA Life Orb Flygon Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tyrantrum: 608-717 (199.3 - 235%) -- guaranteed OHKO
104 Atk Life Orb Flygon Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tyrantrum: 268-320 (87.8 - 104.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Hard Check / Counter

Rhyperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Atk / 244 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Stealth Rock
- Protect / Ice Punch

Rhyperior is amazing at taking Head Smashes with its big HP, Defense and resistance to Rock type attacks. Thanks to Solid Rock it can also take a couple of Superpowers and Earthquakes decently especially with Protect. And forcing it into not head smashing is nice.

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Superpower vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 246-289 (56.8 - 66.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Bronzong as a (situational) Check

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Earthquake

While not enjoying too many Head Smashes or coverage in the form of Crunch or Superpower (at +0), Bronzong can comfortably switch in to Outrage and Earthquake. This can allow it to set up stealth rocks easily, get a guaranteed 2HKO on dino with Gyro Ball if it's locked into Outrage, or force a switch if given the opportunity (as stated before, depends on the move tyrantrum is currently locked in). If you really have problems with it, you could afford to sacrifice investment in special defense and go for a spread of 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD so Head Smash becomes a guaranteed 3HKO instead of a dice roll 2HKO

Calcs time:

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Bronzong: 168-198 (49.7 - 58.5%) -- 69.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Outrage vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Bronzong: 135-159 (39.9 - 47%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Superpower vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Bronzong: 120-142 (35.5 - 42%) -- 86.6% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Outrage vs. 252 HP / 120 Def Bronzong: 122-144 (36 - 42.6%) -- 94% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
