I - Introduction:
Trick Room is a playstyle that revolves around the move Trick Room, obviously. Trick Room is a move considered 'gimmicky' and 'niche' by many players, but this is just not the case! Trick Room can give many advantages to many different Pokemon, while crippling the opposition in often cases. Another great quality is that you can invest more into bulk, instead of Speed, which always comes in handy! Trick Room gives many Pokemon not seen often in OU a chance, such Pokemon including Exploud, Crawdaunt, and Cresselia, all Pokemon who would not see much use otherwise. Trick Room as a whole is a blend of bulky offense and hyper offense, using the bulk instead of Speed to an advantage.

Trick Room does have its flaws, however. Unlike most other in-battle conditions, Trick Room lacks any auto-inducers or items that can extend its length, leaving it with a measly four turns to be put into effect. It also requires a lot of switching, and even with the invested bulk, some Pokemon can't afford to switch in at any given time. It also only leaves the said switched in Pokemon with three turns to abuse Trick Room, which runs out very quickly and can be exploited. Nevertheless, Trick Room is still a very fun and interesting playstyle for any OU team!

II - Trick Room Basics
Mechanics of Trick Room:
Trick Room has -7 priority, making it the lowest priority move in the entire game. This means that the user will always move last unless there is an odd occurrence and a Pokemon that is faster than you uses Trick Room on the same turn, they will move before the first Trick Room setter. Trick Room the Speed bracket of all Pokemon on the field, making the Pokemon with the slower Speed stat move before the Pokemon with a higher Speed stat. This guide will go more in-depth on Speed and priority shortly. Trick Room will last for five turns, but it is actually four, as the turn Trick Room is set counts as one turn. Trick Room will reverse the battlefield to a normal state if used while Trick Room is already set. For example, if Trick Room is already set and a Pokemon uses Trick Room again, Trick Room's effect will wear off.

Speed Under Trick Room:
Pokemon with the lowest Speed stat will move before all other Pokemon on the field if used under Trick Room. For example, if a Reuniclus uses Focus Blast and Bisharp uses Knock Off on the same turn, Reuniclus will go first because it has a Speed stat of 58, versus Bisharp's Speed stat of 239. Often, Pokemon abusing and using Trick Room will opt to run a Speed lowering nature and run 0 Speed IVs, to ensure the Pokemon is as slow as possible. Most Pokemon should stay underneath 80 Speed if being used under Trick Room, as anything above this will be too fast to be of use in Trick Room, often being left outspeed by slower Pokemon like Mega Mawile.

Priority Under Trick Room:
Priority brackets under Trick Room work as they usually do, being based off of the Speed stat. Any Pokemon with the slower Speed stat will use a priority move first. For example, if a Reuniclus uses Focus Blast and a Bisharp uses Sucker Punch, Bisharp will still move first because it has a higher priority bracket. The same goes for other Pokemon under Trick Room using priority as well, if a Crawdaunt uses Aqua Jet and a Bisharp uses Sucker Punch, Crawdaunt will move first because it has the slower Speed in its priority bracker. Priority is very essential when playing against Trick Room for this reason, it ignores the Trick Room of any Pokemon not using priority.

General Playstyle of Trick Room:
Trick Room's main purpose is to set up Trick Room and abuse it to its full extent. This often means packing Pokemon with high offensive stats and low Speed stats, along with a mixture of bulk, which makes the perfect Trick Room abuser. Trick Room is not supposed to be made up of six Trick Room setters, as this will not get you anywhere. It should be composed of bulky sweepers as well, or sometimes frailer Pokemon who appreciate moving first such as Crawdaunt. Play conservatively with your Trick Room setters, though, as once they're gone you lose the potential and the free abuse of Trick Room, and often will cost you the match.

Tips For Teambuilding:
The first rule of Trick Room teams: Do NOT ever use all Psychic- and Ghost-type Trick Room setters. Many Trick Room setters are Psychic- and Ghost-type Pokemon, but this stacks types, which also means the stacking of weaknesses, and creates a very large issue. With the prevalence of Knock Off, it creates for a huge weakness to this move. Try to pick Pokemon who are not deadweight outside of Trick Room, meaning they can be just as good in and out of Trick Room. Also, don't forget, this is a team, another regular team. So, be sure to include a hazard setter and a hazard remover, as Trick Room often forces switches, so racking up damage is good, and since you'll be switching a lot, you'll need to remove them from your side as well!

Setting Trick Room
Setting Trick Room cannot always be the easiest thing in the world to do, between how common Taunt is, and how often you are pressured by your opponent, it can be a struggle to set Trick Room. However, Trick Room is what makes a Trick Room team, obviously, and just setting it up as good as it can get. If your opponent brings in a Talonflame on your Bronzong, be sure to try and predict: will it attack you, or will it switch / set up? Prediction is a very key factor to using Trick Room. Be careful not to set it up too early sometimes, as the opponent could potentially carry a Pokemon who can take advantage of Trick Room alongside you. Trick Room Setters should carry a blend of offense and defense, to put in work after setting up Trick Room. To put it bluntly, Trick Room should try to be set as often as possible, as it is what makes up your team.

III - Trick Room Pokemon
Defensive Trick Room Setters

Aromatisse
Type: Fairy
Abilities: Healer / Aroma Veil
Stats: 101 / 72 / 72 / 99 / 89 / 29
Aromatisse @ Leftovers
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 252 SDef / 232 HP / 24 SAtk
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spd
- Trick Room
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Aromatherapy / Thunderbolt

Aromatisse is a very great Pokemon on Trick Room teams for two reasons. The first reason being its Fairy-typing, which gives it a very useful resistance to Dark-type moves, while also bringing a very key immunity to Dragon-type. The second reason is its abilities, Aroma Veil, which gives it an immunity to Taunt, meaning it can set up Trick Room quite easily. It also has access to the move Wish, meaning it can heal its teammates, and with 101 HP, it can heal most of its teammates HP. Moonblast is a very nice STAB move because it gets nice coverage amongst the tier and has a nice Fairy-typing. Aromatherapy is a very great move because it removes any status of its teammates and itself, especially Toxic and burn statuses, as they wear down your team. Finally, Thunderbolt can be used to hit Skarmory amongst other Water- and Flying-types, which could otherwise set up on Aromatisse. The given EVs give Aromatisse the maximum Leftovers recovery possible.

Bronzong
Type: Steel / Psychic
Abilities: Levitate / Heatproof / Heavy Metal
Stats: 67 / 89 / 116 / 79 / 116 / 33
Bronzong @ Normal Gem / Mental Herb / Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 188 HP / 252 Atk / 68 Def
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Trick Room
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball / Reflect / Light Screen / Earthquake
- Explosion

Bronzong is a very unique Pokemon in general, and on Trick Room teams, it is an absolutely amazing Pokemon. Bronzong has a Steel-typing, making it one of two viable Pokemon that have both a Steel-typing and access to Trick Room. Bronzong also is unique in the fact that it can set Stealth Rock, a necessity on all teams. Gyro Ball is very strong on Bronzong, because it is so slow, and it has STAB on it. However, Reflect or Light Screen can be used instead of Gyro Ball to easily aid setup against certain Pokemon. Earthquake should only be used if you have a glaring Heatran weakness, it also catches Bisharp off guard. Finally, Explosion allows for a clear switch in for any teammate and severely dents any Pokemon that does not resist it, especially when backed by a Normal Gem. Overall, Bronzong should be considered on all Trick room teams in need of either a Steel-type or Stealth Rock.

Cofagrigus
Type: Ghost
Abilities: Mummy
Stats: 58 / 50 145 / 95 / 105 / 30
Cofagrigus @ Leftovers
Ability: Mummy
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Trick Room
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Ball
- Pain Split

Cofagrigus is extremely useful on Trick Room teams because of its high Defenses providing a physically defensive Pokemon to the team. Will-O-Wisp further enhances this to astounding levels, and also softens up physical attackers for the rest of the team. Shadow Ball is a great STAB move that hits a large portion of the OU metagame and also has a nice side effect; however, don't rely on this side effect. What Cofagrigus lacks is recovery, and Pain Split is its way to mitigate this, somewhat. Its ability Mummy is very useful for Pokemon like Mega Pinsir that rely on their abilities; and, when having them taken away, are completely crippled. Cofagrigus has the perfect Speed, bulk, and movepool to make it a valuable option for a Trick Room team.

Cresselia
Type: Psychic
Abilities: Levitate

IV - Playing Against Trick Room

General Ways To Play Against Trick Room:
Trick Room is generally shut down by the move Taunt, which prevents setters from even using the move Trick Room! This move completely incapacitates Trick Room setters, usually forcing switches. Priority is another way to play around Trick Room because it negates the +0 bracket and can hit hard; moves like Sucker Punch and Aqua Jet fit this criteria. Stall teams are generally very slow, thus, this makes them great ways to play against Trick Room. They are impacted by Trick Room's effects and some have issues with it; however, most Stall Pokemon are able to withstand and stall out Trick Room turns. Finally, generally slow Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Conkeldurr can actually abuse Trick Room, even when not using it! These Pokemon are slow enough anyways and appreciate the Trick Room effect provided.

Pokemon To Use To Play Against Trick Room
Thundurus is a nightmare to Trick Room teams merely because of the fact it has access to Prankster Taunt, meaning that even if Trick Room is already up, it can still use Taunt first. It has a powerful Thunderbolt that can break through Trick Room teams with ease, it relaly must be watched out for heavily. Talonflame is in a similar boat, although it lacks priority Taunt. It has priority in Brave Bird, thanks to Gale Wings, which it can use to completely ignore all of Trick Room's impact and cause serious damage. Flying-type resists on Trick Room teams are extremely hard to come by, making Talonflame a large issue. Finally, Aegislash is a large problem because it is slow and can decimate most Trick Room setters with its Ghost-type STAB moves. Aegislash can also run Shadow Sneak to mitigate Trick Room's effect. If you've noticed, all these Pokemon share something in common: priority.

Hello, everyone! I'm slowly writing this, but I'd really appreciate anyone who can contribute and has experience to Trick Room. Thanks!

(its true ive got a problem where i start writing and i just dont stop, and that kids is how you end up with 60 pages and a locked analysis -_-)

I'd suggest adding Scizor to the physical trick room sweepers, and Deoxys-D to the support setters. Scizor is slow enough to get work done under Trick room, and has pivoting and priority options to use, which is nice. And (if it doesnt fall to a suspect test) deo-d is actually pretty reliable as a hazard/tr setter (imo if it can do it in ubers it can do it in OU). Lastly, under "pokemon and moves to use" Sucker Punch seems to be a good choice since the Trick room user can't attack without risking either wasting a turn of tr, or getting hit first.
