Semifinals XY OU Replays

Will you post the ADV / DPP / BW logs / replays in RoA. I really enjoy seeing some DPP games, more than XY tbh?

And i don't really now what we could discuss about those replays.

Since these are higher level battles, newer players could use this thread as a great resource to learn. If someone is confused about why someone made a certain play or why someone's team is constructed in such a way, then it would be constructive for someone else to explain the reasoning to them.

Here's a good one. http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-ou-16258
Sinclair vs. Blue Star
This match mostly stood out to me because it was the finals, making it a much more high pressure battle, resulting in a great one to watch.

Blue star brought a bulky offense team, relying on M-Gardevoir to sweep, which was a really risky strategy back then, because if Sinclair had an Aegislash or M-Mawile on the squad it would've been over from team preview.
Luckily for Blue Star though, Sinclair didn't bring either of those 2, instead using an offensive team using 2 U-turners (Landorus-T and M-Scizor) to keep momentum and stay ahead of his opponent. This battle starts fairly fast paced, with a lot of the action happening early on.

Team preview :
From team preview, the match looks to be in Blue Star's favour as he has a good chance of sweeping with his Gardevoir, however Sinclair's win condition, M-Scizor, can't really do all that much to Blue Star's team, even 1 Swords Dance, only being able to do substantial amounts of damage to Gardevoir, and Amoongus if it sets up enough. However he does need it to check Gardevoir, as it is his only switch. In Blue Star's case, all he needs to do is get rid of Scizor (which can do hefty chunks to Gardevoir) and Landorus-T (which can live a Hyper Voice and come dangerously close to killing with Earthquake), and prevent Gyarados from setting up, as it can do a lot of damage once it gets up a few Dragon Dances.

Start of the game :
Right of the bat, Blue Star leads of with his Raikou, looking to get some momentum going with Volt Switch, whereas Sinclair leads with Mew, trying to Taunt what he most likely thought was going to be the Heatran. Towards the first couple of turns, Sinclair plays it safe, making absolutely sure Blue Star doesn't get up rocks, as that could prove annoying for Gyarados, which is weak to rocks, and what could potentially be a Sash Breloom.
Soon enough however, Heatran manages to get up rocks, threatening out Scizor with Lava Plume, and opting to go for Stealth Rock instead. Latios comes in soon after that, but instead of Defogging, it goes for Draco Meteor instead.
Turn 19 : Here we see M-Scizor against M-Gardevoir, a situation which Blue Star would have been hoping to avoid, but Sinclair forces with a well placed U-Turn from Landorus. Blue Star has no choice but to switch to one of his pokemon that can deal with Scizor, choosing Amoongus over Heatran in case Sinclair goes for U-turn and brings in Landorus-T.

In a nutshell : Sinclair has displayed the danger of allowing Landorus-T and Scizor to U-Turn on free switches, putting Blue Star in the back. Blue Star has managed to get up rocks, and keep them up, preventing Sinclair from bringing in his Gyarados and Breloom, limiting his switches.

Mid Game :
Blue Star is having trouble getting around Mew, as whenever it's hp gets low it heals back up with Softboiled. However, he forced a switch, and managed to get rid of Landorus-T's leftovers, putting a timer on the number of times it can switch in, and also revealing Taunt, a move growing in popularity on Gliscor, preventing Scizor from healing with Roost, and leaving it at a dangerous amount of hp, too little to switch in, take rocks damage, and a Hyper Voice from Gardevoir reliably now. This makes Sinclair's new priority getting rid of rocks. He switches Gyarados in, revealing it to be a Moxie variant, and takes the rocks damage he wanted to avoid. He gets up a dragon dance on the switch, as Blue Star gets in Keldeo. Blue Star had been keeping this at full hp to handle Gyarados comfortably, and shows that it is Scarf, outspeeding Gyarados, and revealing hp electric, surprising Sinclair and killing Gyarados, which takes a large weight of Blue Star's shoulders. A few turns after, Breloom comes in, rocks breaking it's sash, and Knock Off getting rid of it, meaning Sinclair has given up on Defogging. Blue Star also succeeds in Knocking off Latios' life orb, limiting its' offensive capabilities. And with yet another great prediction, Blue Star will-o-wisps Landorus on the switch, crippling it, and putting it at 12%, meaning it will die upon the next switch due to rocks, and a few turns later, it does. And a few turns after that, Blue Star gets his Raikou in against Latios. Sinclair attempts to kill with Draco, but Blue Star reveals Raikou's assualt vest, living the hit, and killing the next turn with Shadow Ball. Sinclair is now very much in the back, being down 6-3. His Breloom has lost its' sash, Mew is burned and at an undesirable amount of hp, and Scizor is also weakened, and has lost it's partner in crime, Landorus.
In a nutshell: In the matter of a few turns Blue Star has taken full control of the battle, and put Sinclair behind, trying to play catch-up. Blue Star only needs a small amount of damage to the rest of Sinclair's team in order to sweep with Gardevoir, AV Raikou, or Scarf Keldeo. Sinclair needs large amounts of damage on each of Sinclair's pokemon to do damage with Scizor. Heatran needs to be taken out first however, but Sinclair has managed to keep Breloom alive to Spore the Heatran, in an attempt to neutralize it.

Late game :
This last part of the game shows Sinclair down and almost out for the count, with Breloom being sacked against hp Amoongus. Sinclair went for the paralysis with a very innovative Force Palm on Breloom, but it doesn't work, allowing Amoongus to kill Breloom. Now Sinclair is down 6-2, and has all but lost. His only chance is managing to take out the Heatran with Mew, however Blue Star doesn't choke the win away, and instead switches to Gliscor, sealing Sinclair's fate. Mew soon goes down to Gardevoir, leaving it all up to Scizor. Gliscor comes in, Taunts the Scizor, giving Blue Star a sure fire win. From there, there is nothing Sinclair can do to win, even if Scizor can crit Gliscor, Heatran can come in and OHKO.
In a nutshell: This part was essentially just Blue Star wrapping things up, as he had the win in his hands already thanks to some great plays earlier in the game, preventing Sinclair from trying anything, and giving him very little breathing space, eliminating potential threats before they can become threats.

That's it for this battle, which was a great one, containing lots of great plays (from both sides, it wasn't just Blue Star pulling all the strings), and a lot of tension, only to be expected from sure a high pressure round like the finals for WCoP. A good game all round, and very decent one to watch too!

100th post :]

BW Rain Stall, powerful as fuck, preforming so dominantly (my next 3 examples are all final rounds, 6-0/5-1 results) that even with preparation (Trappers, stall breakers) the playstyle proved its merit.

The premise of it is relatively straight forward:

1) Lay down hazards over and over
2) Wear down spinner if any till its dead
3) Take out/wear down other weather starter if any (until you no longer need your own weather)
4) ????
5) Profit

Having reliable switch ins, a few surprise sets you will see in these matches and bar any hax, the above should work perfectly fine. All the next logs contain great players, clever plays (toxicating Politoed when it encores you, switching a TTar on expected Celebi switch) and perfectly sound teams in other circumstances, but their opponents are also great players and are using a playstyle that you can say has a good matchup against theirs from the get go.

I would have liked to post more example but since tier labels aren't shown for first round matches this should do fine:

TV-Rocka vs. Lightchu

I guess you can see from the very beginning that TV-Rocka didn't have any spinners so that was a very bad situation, and TTar not having (or using if it did) Pursuit was another advantage given to the opponent. Reuniclus should have in theory managed to wipe the opponent and the SD chomp also was a huge threat but with clever sets (HP Ice on Lando-T and more importantly, NP Celebi) Lightchu managed to eliminated and in Reuni's case out muscle it (it had psyshock and focus miss anyway).

Reyscarface vs. Hellraiser

Well this is definitely intresting, stall vs stall! Instead of seeing answers to stall breakers we witness what happens when you cleverly wear down the opponents spinner to the point it can no longer switch in and chaos ensues. Ferrothorn managed to wear down Forretress with Iron Barbs and Leech Seed until later in game it couldn't switch in with the volume of hazards that were set infront of it. What I also noticed is that TTar was stashed until turn 66 which allowed Politoed to be relatively healthy and was only played a few times with great support (Aroma Chansey).

CTC vs. Hellraiser

Ah yes the finale. Arguably more prepared seeing it was the same player, the match started out great, a couple of great switches and double switches but unfortunately that doesn't mean much cause switching was free and for stall it has lil consequences (bar trapping and hazards) so it eventually had to stop. Bulk Up Conk was an answer that should put fear into stall but Hellraiser matched it up with Tentacruel, who besides having black sludge and rain dish recovery, was also resistant to Drain Punch so spamming Scald (special STAB attack) under the rain even with the fear of Guts was a good option and with a bit of a push (critic) Conk was ruled out.

There were attempts to trap a low health Politoed and the spinner was out, but the fatal mistake was LO Starmie. Spinning infront of Ferrothorn, and suffering twice while the Ferro had options (he chose to throw rocks again seeing what was going on) meant that it was going to die fast and hazards kept on piling to the point where late game all Skarmory had to do was whirlwind everyone.

=======

This is not an encouragement to use BW Rain Stall over anything else or labeling it as an easy win as long as you are a competent player, but a reminder to consider the above situations and how you can avoid it (Choice of spinner, when to use Stall Breaker, etc.)
