Overview
########
Pancham is a Fighting-type panda with access to a very powerful move: Parting Shot, which gives Pancham a niche over the various Fighting-types in the tier such as Mienfoo and Timburr. Thanks to Pancham's low Speed, it can almost always bring in a teammate safely into a Pokemon with lowered offenses to allow room to set up. Another niche that Pancham has lies in its ability Scrappy, which allows it to hit Ghost-type Pokemon with its Fighting-type STAB moves. However, not all is well for it. Pancham lacks access to Drain Punch, or any other healing moves for that matter, meaning it gets worn down very quickly. Pancham also is not as powerful as other Pokemon in the tier such as Croagunk. Even with Parting Shot, Pancham is still fairly outclassed by the other Fighting-types in the tier, as mentioned previously. Despite these flaws, Pancham is still a very viable choice for any Little Cup team!

move 3: Storm Throw
move 4: Stone Edge
ability: Scrappy
item: Eviolite
evs: 140 HP / 100 Atk / 100 Def / 132 SpD
nature: Sassy

Moves
========
Circle Throw is a great STAB move, as it forces switches to stop setup sweepers and racks up entry hazard damage. Parting Shot is Pancham's signature move that allows a safe switch-in of a teammate to take advantage of the opponent's lowered offenses. Parting Shot is exceptionally great on Pancham because it is very slow, so it almost always ensures that its teammate will switch in safely. Storm Throw is an overall solid STAB move that always lands a critical hit. Stone Edge hits Ponyta and Larvesta, along with Fire- and Flying-type switch-ins.

Set Details
========
The current EV spread allows Pancham to survive Spritzee's Moonblast, along with having a 6.3% chance survive the to OHKO from Abra's Psychic and itemless Fletchling's Acrobatics. A Sassy nature allows Pancham to have the slowest Parting Shot possible. This EV spread gives Pancham the most special bulk possible while also making it all-around bulky. Scrappy is the preferred ability to be able to force out Misdreavus and other Ghost-types with Circle Throw, however do note that Pancham is not a Misdreavus counter.

Usage Tips
========
First off, do not ever use Parting Shot on Pawniard ever, as instead of dropping Pawniard's Attack, Defiant negates the effect and boosts Pawniard's Attack to +3. Pancham is good against setup sweepers to force them out and remove their boosts with Circle Throw; Shell Smash users in particular, as most of them are weak to Circle Throw. Try to always use Parting Shot if possible, as it is Pancham's niche and is what makes it usable, and it's also a very low-risk, high reward move. Using Pancham with setup sweepers of your own is recommended, as Parting Shot gives teammates room to set up.

Team Options
========
Many setup sweepers are great teammates; Pokemon like Tirtouga, Fletchling, Pawniard, and others. Practically all setup sweepers really enjoy having the opponent's offenses lowered to allow room to set up. Spritzee is a nice partner, as it can either reliably set up Calm Mind or keep Pancham alive by passing Wishes to it. Tirtouga is one of the best partners, as it can safely set up Shell Smashes after the opponent has been hit by Parting Shot. It also can safely beat Fletchling.

Other Options
########
Pancham has many different options to choose from, such as a Choice Scarf set, which allows Pancham to reach the magical 21 Speed tier. Iron Fist can be used over Scrappy, as it makes Sky Uppercut a very powerful STAB move. Mold Breaker is another cool option for an ability, as it bypasses Sturdy, allowing Pancham to OHKO Tirtouga. Toxic is a neat option to cripple and wear down walls. Crunch can be used to hit Ghost-types if not running Scrappy or for hitting them super effectively. Swords Dance is usable, but Pancham lacks the bulk and Speed to effectively utilize the move. Rock Slide can be used over Stone Edge if you're concerned about accuracy, however, you miss out on a lot of power. Bulk Up is another viable option as it patches up Pancham's Defense and bolsters its Attack. Finally, Choice Band is usable as it makes Pancham very powerful and Parting Shot is still spammable on these sets, however, the bulk from Eviolite is greatly missed.

Checks & Counters
########
**Flying-types:** Most Flying-type Pokemon can reliably beat Pancham with their STAB moves. Fletchling in particular is a great counter because Gale Wings ensures that Pancham does not have time to use Parting Shot.

**Psychic-types:** Psychic-types can beat Pancham with their STAB moves; Abra is a great example because it handily OHKOes Pancham with Psychic.

**Status:** Will-O-Wisp cuts Pancham's power and longevity greatly. Toxic also wears down Pancham's health quickly, which is very unappreciated.

**Natu:** Natu has a 4x resistance to Pancham's STAB moves, and if it comes into a Parting Shot, Natu gets a free switch and leaves Pancham at -1 Attack.

Overview
########

Pros:
  • Very slow Parting Shot gives it a niche over other Fighting-types and allows safe switch ins for Offensive partners to take care of cripple Pokemon.
  • Scrappy
  • Cute as fuck
Cons:
  • Lacks Drain Punch u.u
  • Not very powerful
  • Outclassed by Mienfoo and Timburr almost all the time

Support

move 4: Stone Edge
ability: Scrappy
item: Eviolite
evs: 140 HP / 100 Atk / 100 Def / 132 SDef
nature: Sassy

Moves
========
  • Circle Throw forces switches and racks up entry hazard damage
  • Parting Shot is a great move that allows the safe switch in of a teammate
  • Parting Shot is great because Pancham is so slow, so they almost always get in safely
  • Storm Throw allows you to have a solid STAB move
  • Stone Edge nails Ponyta and Larvesta, along with Fire- and Flying-type switch ins.

Set Details
========
  • Allows you to survive Spritzee's Moonblast, along with Abra's Pyshic and Itemless Acrobatics Fletchling 6.3% chance to OHKO with given EV spred.
  • Allows the slowest Parting Shot possible
  • Makes Pancham much more Specially, and all-around, bulkier.
  • Scrappy is neat to be able to force out Misdreavus and other Ghost-types with Circle Throw, however Pancham is not a Misdreavus counter.

Usage Tips
========
  • NEVER USE PARTING SHOT ON PAWNIARD! It gives Pawniard +3 Attack!
  • Use it with set-up sweepers such as Tirtouga or Fletchling, to allow them room to set up
  • Also good against set-up sweepers, as it forces them out with Circle Throw.
  • Try to spam Parting Shot, as it is what makes Pancham usable, it's a very low risk move that is very beneficiary.
  • Don't switch it in to just Parting Shot, as it is very difficult to switch in thanks to its horrid bulk.
  • Bring it on Shell Smash users, to force them to switch.

Team Options
========
  • A lot of set up sweepers, Tirtouga, Fletchling, Pawniard, many set up sweepers enjoy having their opponent at -1 to give room for them to set up.
  • Spritzee is a nice partner, as it can either reliably set up Calm Minds, or it can keep Pancham alive with its Wishes
  • Tirtouga is another good partner, as it can easily set up after a Parting Shot and can beat Fletchling for Pancham

Other Options
########
  • Choice Scarf set
  • Iron Fist gives Pancham a very powerful Sky Uppercut
  • Mold Breaker gets past Sturdy
  • Mold Breaker + Choice Scarf to revenge kill Tirtouga
  • Toxic
  • 21 Speed w/ Choice Scarf
  • Crunch for Ghosts if not running Scrappy.
  • Swords Dance
  • Rock Slide for accuracy.
  • Bulk Up
  • Choice Band

Checks & Counters
########
  • Flying-types in general: Most of them can reliably beat Pancham with their STABs, while Fletchling ensures that Pancham doesn't get off a Parting Shot
  • Abra and other Psychic-types: Abra can put an end to Pancham with Psychic
  • Status: Will-O-Wisp and Toxic cut down Pancham's health very fast, which it does not appreciate.
  • Natu: Natu is listed because if it comes in on Parting Shot, Natu gets a free switch and Pancham is left at -1 Attack.

I know this is still in the early stages, but I've been using Pancham recently so I figured I'd offer a few suggestions.

First of all, "cute as fuck" shouldn't be crossed out.

But for real, Storm Throw got a bit of a buff this gen (40 BP to 60 BP) and since it always crits, it's basically a 90 BP move (I think that's how it works) with perfect accuracy. Plus (because of crit) it ignores certain stat modifiers, most notably the attack drop from Intimidate. So except against pokes with Battle Armor/Shell Armor, Storm Throw is going to be preferable to Sky Uppercut.

Also I wouldn't say it has bad bulk. The Scarf set might not have the best bulk because of no Eviolite/Berry Juice, but its defenses (67/62/48) are comparable to Timburr's (75/55/35). It does lack Drain Punch, but that doesn't make it frail.

Speaking of which, I personally think an Eviolite/Berry Juice set with Scrappy and Circle Throw is Pancham's best option. Pair it with something like Dwebble and it can rack up a lot of hazards damage. Pancham's ability to hit Ghosts really comes in handy. You should give it a shot.

And finally, consider mentioning a Mold Breaker set (with Berry Juice or Eviolite) for Sturdy Juicers. Pancham can survive any hit from Magnemite, +2 Tirtouga, or +2 Dwebble and OHKO thanks to Mold Breaker. Admittedly the niche for this set is pretty small with Timburr/Mienfoo around, but it still might be worth a mention.

agreeing with unitard. storm throw>sky uppercut unless you're using iron fist (which tbh, you shouldn't be, it has 2 better abilities and not many moves to abuse iron fist with)

also, Slow Evio/BJ set should be first set, getting a slow Parting Shot in is a massive niche, along with scrappy circle throw, it's really cool.

but yeah listen to unitard, he knows stuff

Ok, will test the slow Eviolite set and update the OP! Just to check, the moves are Parting Shot / Circle Throw / Crunch / ??

No, you want Storm Throw, the one that always scores a critical hit. Circle Throw is the one that phazes the opponent, like Dragon Tail.

We want both. You want to use Parting Shot, Circle Throw, Storm Throw and then I guess Stone Edge for flyers and fires, since Storm Throw already hits Missy neutrally.

Yeah Corkscrew's set is the best. Because of Larvesta/Ponyta, you really want Stone Edge instead of Crunch. Here's the set I would recommend using:

Pancham @ Eviolite
Ability: Scrappy
Level: 5
EVs: 140 HP / 180 Atk / 180 Def
Impish Nature
- Circle Throw
- Parting Shot
- Storm Throw
- Stone Edge

One general rule about LC EVs (since you say you need help with them): Whenever I invest in the defenses on Eviolite sets, I always aim for even numbers, since Eviolite boosts your defenses by 1.5, but rounds down. So, for example, 16 Defense + Eviolite = 24 Defense, but 15 Defense + Eviolite = 22 Defense.

The EV spread I listed gives Pancham 17 Attack (very solid) as well as 25/24/16 Defenses. If you're interested, here's my reasoning, but I'll put it in hide tags because I'm sure most people don't care:

-Running max Defense with an Impish nature is the most important thing because this set benefits far more from extra tanking ability than it does from extra power (plus I'm not sure if an Adamant Nature really makes a difference against anything). There are also loads of great Physical Attackers in LC right now which Pancham does a solid job against (most notably Pawniard, Scraggy, Tirtouga, Dwebble).
-That said, you want to rack up as much damage as possible with Circle Throw (and hit things like Porygon hard), so max investment in Attack is a good idea.
-Throw the rest into HP for some extra bulk.
-I personally don't care about Special Defense, because in a one-on-one matchup, the most prominent Special Attackers are either going to force Pancham out (Abra/Spritzee/Slowpoke/Gastly/Misdreavus) or switch out themselves (Porygon/Magnemite), so it's basically only worth it for Chinchou/Staryu (and as it turns out, it makes very little difference).
-As Corkscrew mentioned, the slow Parting Shot is probably the best thing about Pancham, so I didn't invest in Speed at all. 12 EVs in Speed does allow you to outspeed Porygon with no Speed investment. You could also consider giving it 0 Speed IVs and a Relaxed Nature to make it a really slow Parting Shot, but I think outspeeding Spritzee is nice (allows you to Parting Shot out against it).

Hi Chesnaught!

I noticed you still have this set as WIP and it has been idle for quite some time now. If you're finished, you need to go ahead and change the tag to Quality Control. If not, you need to wrap this up as soon as you can so we can move on with the C&C process for this analysis. If you're unable to finish this, let me know. ♥

'Lacks a reliable Fighting-Type move' change to: 'Lacks Drain Punch'. storm throw is reliable just not as good as DPunch.

set:
don't like the name... rename it to... something. I'll think about it and get back to you. maybe 'Support' would do?

moves:
put parting shot in slot 1, circle throw in slot 2
stone edge nails fire AND flying switchins.

set details:
'Scrappy is neat to be able to force out Misdreavus' and other ghosts with circle throw. people might think that pancham is a missy counter when it's not.

usage tips:
good vs. set up sweepers thanks to circle throw, like scraggy.
spamming circle throw or parting shot works.

other options:
choice scarf+mold breaker revenges tirt :)
mention what mold breaker and iron fist are actually good for. sturdy users for mold breaker and a powerful Sky Uppercut which is pretty strong after iron fist.
crunch for ghosts, especially if not running scrappy.
rock slide if acc>power
faster spread to outspeed some more things, like larvesta.

C&C:
I guess abra and other psychic types would work there.
just group fletchling with the rest of the flying types.
it's good to list natu separately though due to magic bounce :)

  • The EV spread should be 140 HP / 100 Atk / 100 Def / 132 SDef with a Sassy nature, as shown here (disregard the moveset listed in this link because it was designed in a time when Meditite was still around). The intentionally low Speed lets Pancham fulfill its main purpose and niche (helping a teammate set up or have an easier time coming in) the best that it can, and this is the only reason to really use Pancham when other Fighting-types exist. Pancham's selling point is not attacking, and you ideally want to move last in almost every scenario (of course low Speed is bad when you're close to fainting but that already applies to anything that's slow). The spread guarantees that Pancham survives standard Spritzee's Moonblast, and it only has a 6.3% chance of being OHKOed by standard Abra's Psychic and standard Itemless Fletchling's Acrobatics.
  • Remove the fact that Pancham hits 21 Speed with a Choice Scarf from the Overview and add it to Other Options when you go into detail about it there. The Overview should highlight Pancham's niche with Parting Shot and how that combined with low Speed helps Pancham get in teammates for free against offensively disadvantaged enemies.

Good work. QC 2/3
