Pelipper [QC: 2/3] (Not Written)

[OVERVIEW]

Pelipper has a great defensive typing, allowing it to check Steel, Ground, and Fighting types such as Sawk, Hitmonlee, Escavalier, and Steelix. Even better, it has access to reliable recovery in Roost and a great defensive stat to go with it. However, Pelipper's secondary flying-type is a double edged sword, as while it makes it awkward for Grass types to check it, it loses it's ability to check Rock-type pokemon such as Rhyperior. Along with that, it has a 4x weakness to electric-types, which are very common in the tier. It's role as a defogger is also hindered by it's mediocre special defensive and weakness to Stealth Rock

[SET]
name: Defensive Defog
move 1: Defog
move 2: Roost
move 3: Scald
move 4: Hurricane / U-turn
item: Leftovers
ability: Keen Eye
nature: Bold
evs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Defog removes hazards from the field. Roost gives Pelipper some longevity so it can keep hazards off the field longer. Scald is reliable STAB move that also has a 30% chance to burn possible switchins. Hurricane is the suggested move here as it allows Pelipper to be able to check Virizion reliably, however U-Turn can be used to give you momentum on predicted switchins

Set Details
========

Keen Eye is ran since Rain Dish is illegal in combination with Defog. 248 HP evs to allow Pelipper to switch into Stealth Rock a maximum number of times while 252 evs are invested into defense awith a Bold nature to maximize physical bulk allowing it to take on threats such as Virizion. Leftovers is for a little recovery every turn, however Rocky Helmet can be run to punish U-Turn users if the recovery isn't that useful.

Usage Tips
========

Try to avoid status moves as they can potentially cripple Pelipper. Pelipper should be used as a pivot into resisted moves, such as High Jump Kick, Iron Head, or Megahorn. Use Roost once Pelipper gets low on HP after switching into attacks multiple times. Scald should be used once Pelipper is switched in to possibly cripple physical attackers or defensive switchins such as Alomomola. If you're running U-Turn, use it on predicted switchins. Also, make sure to scout for possible electric-type coverage moves, such as Wild Charge from Emboar.

Team Options
========

  • Pokemon such as Abomasnow, Delphox, and Sneasel appreciate hazards removed
  • Scrafty and Sneasel appreciate Pelipper's ability to check fighting types and generate momentum with U-turn (if ran)
  • Tangrowth can support Pelipper by taking out bulky water and rock types. It also covers Pelipper's Electric weakness while Pelipper covers it's fire weakness
  • Steelix pairs well with Pelipper as it covers Pelipper's electric and rock weakness and Pelipper checks fighting and fire types
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Toxic can be used to set a timer or Alomomola and Seismitoad since the damage stacks up and isn't consistent unlike burn.
  • Knock Off can be used to remove items
  • An offensive set can be used, but is outclassed by Seismitoad and Samurott
  • A spread with 248 HP / 96 Def / 156 SpD / 8 Spe with a Bold nature can be used to pivot into Mega Camerupt avoiding the 2HKO from fire blast
  • Air Slash can be run over Hurricane as it has a better accuracy, however it doesn't OHKO Virizion
Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-Type Attacks**: Countered by electric types by Jolteon and Manectric. Eeleketross can also gain momentum against U-Turn variants due to its lower speed stat.
Also has to watch out for electric-type coverage moves from pokemon like Emboar

**Powerful Special Attackers**: Due to subpar special bulk, Pelipper cannot take 2 hits from most choiced/life orb special attackers such as Meloetta, Hoopa, and Sigilyph. These pokemon can also switch into Pelipper due to their good special bulk

**Jellicent and Alomomola**: Jellicent is immune to Scald and can Taunt Pelipper. Alomomola can switch in on Scald and Toxic Pelipper

hey man, just wanted to let you know before you get too far into this, but you're currently using the outdated format. here's the new one:

========

Describe the other aspects of the set such as what the EVs do and nature/item.

Usage Tips
========

Describe how to use the Pokemon in question.

Team Options
========

Describe some teammates that would be a good idea to pair with this Pokemon.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

List some options for the Pokemon user that are plausible but not always recommended due to either being not consistent enough or too outclassed by other Pokemon in the metagame.

Checks and Counters

**Insert Threat Here**: Describe why the Pokemon is a threat.

gl with the analysis :toast:

Why is this analysis receiving a full revamp when literally the only changes being made are the addition of Rocky Helmet as an alternative item, changing the slash order of Hurricane and U-turn, the removal of Durant from the Overview, and the relocation of your last 8 EVs into Speed? You could honestly enact any changes via the SCMS, as they are so minor.

I dont know, it was in the list of analyses needing redone

phantom

Banned deucer.
It needs a revamp because the current analysis is outdated as shit.

Last sentence of the overview mentions this for instance:

"In addition, Pelipper's role as a Defogger is greatly hindered by its weakness to Stealth Rock, and it faces heavy competition as an entry hazard remover from Flygon, Mantine, and Hitmontop."

Team options does not mention the Pokemon it should almost always be used with, Mega Steelix, and there's just tons of dated info scattered everywhere. The set itself needs minor tweaks, but the analysis as a whole needs to reflect the current meta better. Anyway, I'll QC this later, I just wanted to clear this up first.

-Don't slash rocky helm pelipper needs extra leftovers recovery especially since it is weak to rocks.
-Mention specific examples of things that appreciate the Defog support like Abomasnow, Delphox, Sneasel, Houndoom, etc just saying "Fire-types" is really vague.
-Instead of Dugtrio mention pokemon that immune/resists Electric. Generally speaking Duggy is kinda mediocre right now and imo if you are going to mention it at all it should be with something that it helps offensively rather than defensively.
-In other options mention Air Slash it is a lot weaker (doesn't even ohko +0 Virizion) but is much more reliable so it def deserves a mention.

[OVERVIEW]

- Secondary Flying typing and STAB makes it awkward to deal with for teams that rely on Grass-types to check bulky Water-types. Same can be said of teams that use Rock-types like Rhyperior to check Flying-types due to Water STAB. Definitely a good pro for it.

[Checks and Counters]

- Notable Electric mons are Manectric and Jolteon. Eelektross can even gain switch initiative against U-turn variants due to a lower Speed stat
- Make mention of Electric-type coverage users, most notably Emboar, in the Electric-type section.
- Notable special attackers include Meloetta, Hoopa, and Sigilyph as they don't fear either STAB move and have decent special bulk to switch into it

Implement this and QC Approved 2/3
