Playing the Odds (OU Warstory)

Welcome, warstory readers. EonADS here with another warstory.

First of all, the title discribes the type of battle you're going to see here. Since both of us knew each other's moves, strategies, and teams; we had to play several steps ahead, taking dangerous risks in hopes of a windfall. It's just like any casino game, make an intelligent choice and leave the rest to luck.

Second of all, you'll notice that I'm not under my usual moniker of Eon King, but I was using my alt by the name of Pennumbra (and yes, the "typo" is intentional, apparently somebody had already taken Penumbra).

Hm. A fairly common lead matchup. I've battled lunarfoot before, and he had used Taunt for the pervious battle, but this time, I'm betting he's going for an attack move or SR, which will allow me to Sleep him and then get off the Toxic Spikes.

Bingo, just as predicted. The crit was made moot by Roserade's Focus Sash, so now I'm in the clear to start throwing out Toxic Spikes.

Of course, an excellent swtch-in by lunarfoot. Skarmory really forces my hand here, it has every advantage, all the options, and I can't really do anything to it with the Sleep Clause in play. The best I can manage is to throw down the last layer of Toxic Spikes and then switch to something that can deal with Skarmory a bit better.

Now, how to salvage this sorry situation? Suicune and Tyranitar are all I have left. With one Dragon Dance up, Gyarados outspeeds and OHKO's my ScarfTar no matter what I do. However, this doesn't apply to Suicune, as Lunar's Gyarados carries Stone Edge and must rely on its unstable accuracy in order to make the kill. It also has to get up at least five Dragon Dances in order to make the KO after three turns of Spikes damage. This, combined with the fact that it has to Taunt Suicune to prevent Roar (which mine carries, and Lunar knows that), means that this battle is still in my favor so long as I play it right. His Scizor is the biggest problem, meaning I have to count on Stone Edge to miss with even just two Dragon Dance boosts. Well, here goes something...

lunarfoot's Team:

Alright, time for Props and Slops.

+Props and Slops+

Props:

lunarfoot: For giving me a battle like I haven't had in ages. That was extreme, but a lot of fun.

Suicune: For being so bulky and able to withstand so much damage.

Skarmory: For the ability to make this match a lot harder than it would've been otherwise.

Swampert: For doing so much passive damage and bringing lunar's team down to a level I could deal with.

Slops:

Me: For making a couple of blatant miscalculations that nearly cost me the match, the foremost being using Tyranitar's Earthquake.

Stone Edge: For being wholly innacurate. That applies to both of us.

Electivire: For that sucker punch of an HP Grass. That came out of nowhere. Also, for still being OU even when you suck.

Cheers folks, hopefully you enjoyed this. Until next time!

Good warstory. I think we've had a few from you before, and you always come up with something good. Nice battle, and I like the mindgames of two opponents who each know the other's team. Props for wastorying (a verb I hope never to use again) this one. The only thing was this:

But overall, I think this was a good match, and props to you for stalling out Gyarados with Suicune!

@Athenodoros: Ah, thanks for such a quick comment, usually I'm waiting a couple of hours for one. You're right, this is my second OU warstory, and my third successful one. And lol, I should probably change that.

@cosmicexplorer: Fail Edge seriously annoys me. But, alas, Ttar doesn't have any other half-decent moves that can hit 150 BP with a STAB boost. Thanks, that was a tight one.

Lolcat's take:

This was a good warstory, though I don't think anything will top Turn XIII. Some people think hax makes a battle bad, but people using math and hax to their advantages in order to maximize their chances of winning adds another layer of strategy to a battle. That's why hax is an integral part of Pokemon; it adds a layer of luck, probability, and strategy to a battle.

8.5/10. Congratulations.

Lolcat's take:

This was a good warstory, though I don't think anything will top Turn XIII. People complain about hax and that it ruins a battle, but it only adds another layer of strategy to a battle. Also, it inspires you to use math and probability when playing. Hax is an integral part of Pokemon, and this warstory shows that maximizing your chances of winning (even when mathematically you should lose) is the right way to play.

8.5/10. Congratulations.

Nice story, but one question: why did Gyarados Dance again at the end? Two +2 hits are always going to do more damage than one +3, as well as giving an extra chance to crit/not miss.

Excellent warstory.Lunar played well in the beginning but you made an awesome comeback in the end. The part I liked best was where you played mind games with that bulky gyarados. Also Stone Edge is one blasted move i have lost so many matches due to stone edge missing. Curse you GAMEFREAK for not giving stone edge more accuracy.

Excellent prediction and battling from both players, nice formatting and text, overall great warstory, though the HAX was quite bad.I give it 8.5/10. Thats all I have to say, since anything else would be quite redundant

My thoughts:

-for two layers of toxic spikes only Vire got poisoned.
-I wonder if your opponent should've used HP Grass on Suicine, predicting the switch to Swampert.

Thanks Lolcat, I agree. Turn XIII was a battle I could never replicate even if I tried, and it had a great finish. That's entirely true, hax, luck, and mindgames are as much a part of battling as any strategy.

I'm not entirely sure why Lunar did that, maybe he wanted to bet everything on one move, or maybe he was just caught up in the euphoria of a possible victory at the end of an epic battle.

Thanks for that, and I love playing mind games, lol. Being the son of a psychologist, I guess it's a part of my nature.

Fail Edge is fail, as usual. As I said earlier, it's made necessary by its coverage and power.

-Yeah, Roserade was a bit wasted in this match, but honestly, its only purpose in life is to sleep something, set up Toxic Spikes, and then die.

-That would've been less beneficial to him, since I would've been annoyed rather than flustered. I probably wouldn't have made the EQ mistake and would've won easily.

Thanks you guys, I always appreciate the comments. Unfortunately, this is where I let the thread die, since I have a new warstory waiting in the wings. See you next time!
