Restrictions: OHKO moves are banned.

Description:
In the beautiful world of PYREX™ lies a gigantic titration flask, half-full with some ungodly acid; the opening is barely large enough for daring trainers to slip through, and so, of course, that's where the gym battles always take place.

Anything poisonous is powered up in this flask, especially slow-acting toxins. Yet, the water content is enough those who need it to draw their power from. Despite borosilicate's resistance to thermal expansion and network solid configuration, it's still quite fragile and vulnerable to a Pokemon's attacks. As such, the most powerful item of all – Expert Belt – is banned for eternity.

Summary:
Effects
  • BPSN starts at 2 DPA instead of the normal 1 DPA.
  • Rain Dish and Dry Skin are activated at half value in clear weather.
  • Expert Belt grants +0 BAP on super effective attacks.
  • Poison-type Pokemon gain Liquid Ooze as an ability.
Codifications
  • A Pokemon afflicted with PSN that would be PSNed again by an attack will have PSN replaced with BPSN which starts at 2 DPA.
  • Weather Ball is Water-type.
  • SolarBeam retains its full BAP. Morning Sun, Moonlight, and Synthesis restore default amounts of HP.
  • Camouflage replaces the user's typing with a Poison typing.
  • Nature Power will call Sludge.
  • Secret Power will afflict BPSN with a 30% chance.

Well here we are again folks, back in this cramped almost glass canister Engineer Pikachu likes to call the Poison Gym. Yes the inside of a beaker is an incredibly weird place for a Pokemon battle but that hasn't kept Frosty from venturing inside and looking to continue to run rampant on gym leader after gym leader. Really they just can't open the gyms up fast enough for him. But Engineer's gym is a bit of a different breed. His playstyle revolves around stall and passive damage with an emphasis on switching and match ups where a challenger simply cannot power through the gym in a matter of a couple of rounds. In this gym it is important to stay on top of everything one orders, since a single slip up could ruin an otherwise well played match. Unfortunately for the leader his recent knack for not giving ASB his full attention may well mean he's the more likely to slip up.

Now lets take ourselves a quick look at these teams. Frosty has chosen not to load up on poison immune Steel types and instead brings along a couple of old favourite mons of his and one or two that Engineer has definitely had trouble with in the past. Reuniclus scares the pants off our leader while Snorlax and Collossoil have both ran through him before. However it is Helmaroc King the Braviary I will highlight as the key here. In a match about team synergy Braviary will play the important role of removing all of Engineer's counters to the pair of bulky hitters. Toxicroak, Venusaur and Venomoth don't want to go anywhere near a Sheer Force Sky Attack so Engineer will have to play carefully with switching to allow these mons to take out Gyorg and King Bulbin as he may like.

On the leader's side of the field we find a distinct lack of the Poison/Dark types he usually brings when expecting a Reuniclus so will have to rely on others. While the team is as unpredictable as the man I have to say Shokoli the Fidgit is going to play a big part. Her utility is unmatched and while we may not see the most damage coming from the many limbed one it will be crucial in allowing the other team members to do their jobs.

Now lets get right down to it. Since Engineer did not specify a send out order I'm running with the old coin flip here. Heads has the burden on the leader to reveal his first Pokemon while tails means its up to Frosty. Good luck to you both and may this be a good clean fight (or near as clean as you can get in a beaker full of diluted acid).

Holy sheet I only just added up the massive 470 total HP that Frosty brought along to this fight. It's going to take every single bit of Engineer's best tricks to get out of this one. Starting off with Kurage, one who quickly became one of his favourite Pokemon once he was trained and ready and uses a little Confuse Ray in an attempt to put Morpha to a stop. But it doesn't work right away as the painfully slow Reuniclus creates a little Trick Room to turn dimensions and this match on its head. Unfortunately for Frosty the odds strike true and even with the short confusion duration it does prevent one attack. At least Magic Guard means it doesn't do any damage to itself but he is far too preoccupied with that to do anything about Kurage Knocking Off that pesky Twistedspoon. A shame too since it would have boosted an already beefy Psychock to even higher levels. Kurage keeps on playing set up with another of Engi's pet moves with a little Acid Spray to allow himself or someone else to hit Reun a little harder next round.

This is very clearly the first round with both fighters feeling each other out and jostling for position. Neither have yet made a big mistake nor taken a big lead. Lets keep our eyes peeled to how this keeps on going.

TRICK ROOM (3 Rounds)

Unfortunately for our interpid leader, Confuse Ray just doens't work as well when ordering second. One nice big Substitute from Morpha and maybe a miscalculation sees poor Kurage spend almost the entire round trying to break the little Morpha doll with a barrage of Hydro Pump and Bubble attacks before finally getting a little more Confusion on the Reuniclus. Not that it made a difference to Morpaha this round. Meanwhile Frosty steals one of Engineer's own favourite moves and Knocks Off half of Kurage's recovery in the form of that Black Sludge. Finally Morpha just ends the round with a hard Psychock because why not?

For those keeping score at home Frosty has now gotten Engineer's first Pokemon down to 50% HP while his own team HP total still sits well above Engineer's team's initial count. It might be a long one here for the leader.

NOTE: I could find nothing telling me if a Substitute inherits the parent's existing Stat Drops or not. If you were under the impression that it does Engi and can give me something to support this idea (ASB precedent, ingame mechanics example, etc) then I'll happily edit the reffing.

From Bulbapedia:

"Once created, all stat modifying attacks and side effects of attacks used by the opponent against the user will fail, though all current stat modifiers will remain in effect and any stat modifiers used by the user will also be applied to the substitute."

This is under Gen I and is not revised in future generation info.

TRICK ROOM (2 Rounds)

In this round I have a sore thumb and flavour will be short. Basically Engineer forgets trick room and it bones him a little. Acid Armour shenanigans don't work when you move second but at least the Body Slam succeeded in paralyzing Kurage so he now gets to move first? Unfotunately it counts for nothing when full paralysis stops Reflect Type in its tracks and Snorlax is able to keep on hitting away with SE attacks. Frosty does his usual thing of showing why something is broken while also presenting the fact in feedback threads, but at least Snorlax's weight based moves aren't quite as broken as Helping Handing Engineer to death over and over in the Dubway. Ironically the previously near useless Acid Armour does mean Lax's Wild Charge does juuuussssttt under the amount of damage needed to break Rest and Tentacruel is kind of around to fight another day. But now moving second under Trick Room again thanks to Rest curing the para.

I believe that is correct. I dunno when you are supposed to specify what replaces what, so asap is good. Also, if you could post the stats for the Mega Venusaur, that would be lovely.

After some minor dilly dallying Engineer responds to the fallen Tentacruel with Youma the fearsome Mega Gengar. Frosty believes truly that he has brought a plan for this and switches out the well performing King Bulbin for the criminally underrated Helmaroc King the Braviary. Man Frosy seems to have lots of kings on his team.. Nevertheless the switch has allowed Engineer to unload with powerfully almost perfectly accurate Thunders from Mega Gengar. A trio of them in fact with two out of the three paralyzing the Braviary and all three definitely hitting him hard. In fact that paralysis proves to be Engineer's first real luck of the match as it subverts Frosty's attempt to call death from above! and Helmaroc King is instead left only firing off two pitiful Brave Birds (I kid, I kid, this thing hits like a truck). Unfortunately though it was not the mass explosion of Sky Attacking goodness that Frosty was hoping for. Don't worry Frosty, I feel your pain from that one time a pesky Ice Beam freeze roll prevented me from doing the very same thing to a Heracross. Nevermind, at least you and Braviary have a chance to redeem yourselves.
