Description:
In the abandoned wasteland, the sludge has also turned gaseous over the long period of time, resulting in a cloud of poisonous haze that floats over the sludge. This haze corrodes Steel-types after three actions and deals 1 DPA to all non-Poison Pokemon. In addition, this also counts as a "poisoned" status, but can stack with the likes of PoisonPowder, Toxic, or Toxic Spikes. Pokemon can dive in and out of the sludge, but this has a 30% chance to badly poison non-Poison users. The nature of the sludge, however, prevents non-Poison Pokemon from digging as well as they normally would; its base power is reduced to six (6) and the user will have a 30% chance to become badly poisoned due to the toxic sludge. Moreover, because Poison-type Pokemon are used to and are comfortable with the sludge conditions, Poison-typed Pokemon regain an addition six (6) HP and six (6) Energy each time they chill.

Lastly, the outdoors exposure in the wasteland has also affected the way weather affects the arena. When Rain Dance or Drizzle comes into effect, a field effect called "Acid Rain" is summoned instead of rain. This provides all the same benefits and detriments of regular rain, but it also deals an additional 1 DPA to non-Poison typed Pokemon. When Hail or Snow Warning comes into effect, a field effect called "Poisonous Sleet" is summoned instead of hail. Again, the field effect is identical to that of Hail, but it deals an additional 1 DPA to non-Poison typed Pokemon. Ice-typed Pokemon do not take the 2 DPA from hail but do take the 1 DPA from the poison. When Sandstorm or Sand Stream comes into effect, creating "Toxic Sands," the swirling makes the sludge choppier, reducing the Speed of all non-Poison Pokemon by 30%; in addition, the speed boost from Sand Rush is nullified. Moreover, all Pokemon who breathe will have a 50% chance at the end of each round to become badly poisoned from inhaling the toxic sand particles. Due to the rather translucent cloud of poisonous gas, Sunny Day or Drought will instead create a field effect called "Hazy Sunlight." Hazy Sunlight will alter the BAP changes of Fire and Water moves to +2 and -1, respectively.

Summary: Poisonous Haze that deals 1 DPA and corrodes Steel-types, Dig and Dive changes, chill benefits for Poison Pokemon, weather effects.

Vital Spirit: (Innate) This Pokemon has a high vitality and alertness making it immune to sleep induced by other Pokemon. Its normal state of sleeplessness makes it take 1 less damage/action from Ghost Curse. If it is put to sleep by a Pokemon with Mold Breaker it will wake up the next action.

We'll kick it off with the official coinflip to determine who sends out first. I'll use proper Australian money for this one, so should the Queen show her head it will be Engineer Pikachu sending out first, where the cute little Aussie animal means the burden falls on Maxim!

Heads it is! Engineer, you're up.

Turn Order
Leader Engineer Pikachu sends out first Pokemon, selecting ability and items.
Maxim sends out first Pokemon, selecting ability and issuing actions.
Leader Engineer Pikachu issues actions.
deadfox081 referees.

I took a step into the wasteland, and was greeted with a rather puke-inducing sight, like a group of Glimer had moved in. Twas to be expected, as this was the poison gym and the attendant had given me a gas mask before letting me in.

Eventually the gym leader, known only as Engineer Pikachu, came in and we started our match.

"Well, about 60 moves on average per pokemon? We're screwed. Ursaring come on out!"

Ursaring @ Life Orb
Ability: Guts

"Now then, let's get this trainwreck started! Ursaring, start with a Double Team, then boost your attack with Swords Dance, then finish off with an Ice Punch. If you're taunted, just attack with three Ice Punches and call it a day. If he's about to attempt an encore, use Earthquake on that action (and your encored actions of course).

Good Luck, have fun Engineer!"

Double Team (4 clones)~Swords Dance~Ice Punch
If Encore is about to be used, use Earthquake on the action before use.
If You are taunted, replace remaining actions with Ice Punch.

Standing tall in his recently constructed Gym, Poison Type Leader Engineer Pikachu looks ready for any and all comers. Eager to get himself a shiny new badge, Maxim bursts through the doors and immediately issues a challenge to the incumbent leader. Engineer Pikachu shouts acceptance through the swirly haze and this one is on.

Having to make the first move seems to be a natural move for the Engineer as he leads with a trusty catch all in Shokoli the Fidgit. Maxim remains headstrong, and despite an apparent lack of strong type advantage sends out an Ursaring who is not doubt looking to simply power through whatever is on the other end.

Not satisfied by just being blindingly fast the Fidgit is also a little Prankster and uses this ability to ensure that Maxim's side of the poison gym is immediately covered in Stealth Rocks! Deviating from his usual bull rush the big bear instead takes the opportunity to set up 4 clones of itself with a Double Team attack. The move comes at a hefty energy cost but it could well prove vital. Of course right as we speak the billowing haze takes its immediate toll and weakens the Major and all of his clones.

Shokoli is neither bothered or amused by the clone trickery as she simply conjures up a Sludge Wave to wash away the illusions and lay the hurt on the real Major Ursa quite a bit. Still apparently biding his time Ursa just uses a Swords Dance to ensure that when he finally does decide to attack it will be with supreme vigour.

As the end of the round nears Shokoli looks to set up a tactical advantage for the future of the battle (is anyone else seeing the patern here?) by crashing into Ursa with a U-Turn! The move may not do a whole lot of damage but you can be certain the Pokemon that takes Fidgit's place will be capable of much more. Ursa is able to land one parting blow to the retreating prankster in the form of a rocking Ice Punch. One has to wonder why he didn't just throw some more blows like that but the Life Orb that fostered such power adds to the already stacking residual damage the big bear is having to take. He might need to return to his primal roots to make it out of this one with dignity intact.

Off the back of a U-Turn the Leader presses his advantage by switching in his go to mon in Youma the Gengar. Given this thing has learned every move in the history of Pokemon the Major looks suitably concerned. However rather than showing off this versatility Youma is just going to pound away with all his energy. The first Focus Blast hits so sweetly that Ursa's Special Defence takes a hit and all the other forces will now surely hirt some more. The burly bear responds with some very impressive damage of his own. Between his Guts, that Life Orb and combined with Youma's frankly pitiful Defence his Night Slash hits like a truck. Unforunately for him Youma just eats half its Enigma Berry to lessen the blow but the residual damage quickly building on Major Ursa cannot be helped.

With the plan working so well Youma would be silly to change tact. Especially with his nature making Focus Blast so darned reliable. Ursa changes it up just enough to avoid the costly repetition penalty and the Faint Attack makes little difference in damage. Once again though his recknlessness is rewarded with a fair amount of sapped health. At least the Berry is gone now...

Youma is unconcerned with consecutive energy penalties, he knows he's here for a good time and not a long time. Its a good thing too, because after thankfully making it through a miss free round a third and final Focus Blast sees the back of Major Ursa. He doesn't even look too worse for wear after it all after chomping down on the tasty berry. Your move, challenger Maxim.

After recalling his prized fighting bear Maxim takes a sigh. Of course this was going to be a tough fight; no one ever said Gym Leaders would be a pushover. Its time send in the big fella.

Kimli the Snorlax hits the field and even after getting Stealth Rocks jammed into its ample butt that HP stat still looks very menacing. Gengar is quick with a Trick though, and ensure that he'll benefit from the Leftover Kimli bought with him while the sleepy giant is left with nothing but the empty skin of a berry. Snorlax is able to show off his coverage though as Gengar is hit relatively hard with its own favourite Shadow Ball.

Seemingly relinquishing his usually constant speed advantage Youma sets himself up to fling all Kilmi's weight against him. Unfortunately the attempted Counter is a total waste as Snorlax's Headbutt is way off target. That wasn't very Zen at all.

Youma finishes off with a familiar Focus Blast and while the move is near guaranteed to hit the slow lump, its natural bulk affords a level of protection. Kimli responds with another shadowy blast of its own and this one hits the right spot and lowers Youma's Special Defence for future attacks. Youma then gobbles up some more of the leftovers while smirking at the poor hungry Snorlax. Don't worry Kimli, you'll get your snack back at the of the match.

I think this puts us in a decent position...

Kailu: Fake Out - Rock Slide - Stone Edge

...unless I'm missing something, this should work nicely.

Okay it is unclear exactly how Super Luck and the Scope Lens react together. The options are either the item acting first to double the normal critical hit stage of 1 to 2 and then the ability adding one more to arrive at 3. The other option is to add the +1 from the ability first which the Lens then doubles to 4. Basically I RNGed between the two as a fair resolution and Serenity will be proceeding with a Critical Hit stage of 3.

In a backwards and forwards double switch the challenger arrives upon a matchup that he thinks is in his favour. Problem is Serenity the Togekiss had to wear the Stealth Rocks on the way in and poor old Snorlax is going to have to sit on the painful things twice. I suppose he did get the leader to reveal the three of his Pokemon that will take part in this particular match. What little consolation that might be.

It turns out to be Kailu the Toxicroak taking slot number three and he immediately pounces on the giant aeroplane bird (?) with a Fake Out. The maneuver was so swift that Serenity just can't do a thing to kick off the round. Except of course inhale some of the horrible haze…

With the slightest of speed advantages the poison frog launches a barrage of rocks on Togekiss. Unfortunately it seems Maxim has somewhat miscalculated his orders and Serenity ends up Encoring the very move that just hit it super effectively. Those are the kinds od mistakes you just cannot make if you want to earn yourself a badge folks.

Given free license to pound away with a reliably effective rock barrage Kailu does just that (not that he actually had a choice). Serenity is finally able to perform her original intention and paralyze Kailu. It could be too little too late as Maxim failed to lay a point of damage in the whole round while Serenity finds itself already below half total HP. Woops.

With his side of the haze safely free from hazards the Gym Leader is able to once again switch to a favourable match up in Shokoli the Fidgit. The Prankster immediately goes on the attack with what is sure to prove Engineer's go to weapon: Venoshock. With such devastating base attack power even the ultimate supporter Fidgit is able to lay the hurt on the usually bulky Togekiss. Serenity meanwhile can't even best the Fidgit's efforts with super effective coverage. Mind you the Focus Sash might have something to do with it.

Shokoli continue the assault with poisoned waves while Togekiss goes back to its own old standard in Air Slash. Unfortunately it is nowhere near as potent a weapon when having to move second. Eventually through a combination of the haze and Fidgit's third Venoshock poor Serenity is sent packing having failed to exhert any real influence on the match. Looks like it is up to Snorlax to take on the Leaders' three standing Pokemon. And oh look, here come those rocks again..

With poor Snorlax left standing all on his own against the might of three of the Leaders highly trained Poisons it seems like all hope is lost. With Kimli's Immunity meaning Venoshock cannot tap into the haze Shokoli instead opts for a massive Sludge Wave that in fact does comparable damage. A little distraught and perhaps hisheartened Kimli just throws a Seed Bomb back at the other side which more or less bounces off one of the Fidgit's many limbs for weak damage.

Sensing the posibility of a massive assault Fidgit swiftly digs underground. Kimli indeed does line up for a Giga Impact.. which promptly misses and causes the blob to fall flat on his face. To further add to the misfortune Shokoli emerges and crashes into the arse of Snorlax with said Dig attack.

Seemingly toying with the Snorlax Shokoli taunts him by using a couple of his various appendages in a Low Sweep that again plants Kimli to the floor. This time he gets up a little slower and does nothing but Yawn like any good Snorlax does. The sound does seem to be somewhat contagious however.
