A strategy I could see working in this Meta-game is the use of
Assist Power in combination with the new multiple stat boosting moves like Tail Glow, Butterfly Dance, Cotton Guard, Growth ect. Observe:
Venomoth @ Life Orb/Leftovers
Ability: Tilted Lens
*EVs coming later.*
-Tail Glow/Butterfly Dance
-Assist Power
-Bug Buzz
-Boost Assisting Moves Spore/Substitute/Baton Pass
-3rd Attack options: Flame Dance/Giga Drain/Any other powerful special attack
This set frightens me. Both a single Tail Glow and Butterfly Dance will boost Assist Power's base power to 80; if you can get
two Dances/Glows in, quite possible with the help of Spore or substitute, that base power doubles to 160! When you combine that massive high base power with those stat boosts
and Tilted Lens, Venomoth will be crushing all of his foes. Even most Steel Types can't take multiple hits because of Tilted Lens; all Steel types that 4x resist Assist Power only 2X resist Bug Buzz and vice versa.
If you're truly worried about Steel types though, you can always drop Sub or Spore for Flame Dance; that chance to boost your special attack 1 stage is useful for boosting Assist Power's power
even more! Or you can use Giga Drain to recover Life Orb HP, or or just HP in general, Venomoth can take some hits thanks to Butterfly Dances Special Defense boost. Or you could run a low accuracy moves like Fire Blast, Focus Blast, Thunder, Blizzard ect. and replace Tilted Lens with Compound Eyes
If you don't want your other 5 Pokemon to get Jealous of Venomoth, you can forgo a third attacking move, and Baton Pass them so you can share those boosts with another sweeper with ridiculous moves.
Although Venomoth is scary with Assist power, Venomoth is small potatoes compared to
Clefable, who can get Assist Power from Clefairy's
level up move pool, making it legal with Softboiled and Magic Guard!
(Although the later might not be true if the "50% chance of a 3rd Gen Pokemon getting it's ability changed upon evolution" mechanic was removed in Gen. 5. Can somebody confirm this?)
Plus Clefable already gets boost it's stats stupidly high: Belly Drum, Cosmic Power Amnesia, Calm Mind; Plus in a metagame that allows you to give her any move she wants, you can give her moves like Agility, Iron Defense, Tail Glow, Gear Change, Butterfly Dance, Coil Around, Shell Smash, the works.
You can
easily make either Bulk Mixed Clefables with Assist Power, Drain Punch, Belly Drum, and either a third attacking move to prevent you from being walled by Dark/Ghosts; a second boosting move like Amnesia or Iron Defense if 160 base power Assist power just isn't strong enough for you; or Softboiled.
You can go Special Bulky Clefable instead with Tail Glow/Butterfly Dance, Assist Power, and two other helpful special attacks; such as Bolt-Beam or Dark Pulse + Aura Sphere for their type coverage, or Giga Drain, Lava Plume, or Discharge for their secondary effects.
Heck you could even only run Assist Power and one other Special Take, and use the last slot either for a second boosting move; such as Iron Defense, Amnesia, Cosmic Power, or even Coil Around which could boost the accuracy of Fire Blast, Blizzard, Focus Blast ect. Or you could run Softboiled.
Honestly I have like a dozen more ideas for this exiting metagame...
:happybrain:
...but it's getting late, and I need sleep, so I'll post Spacial Rend/Ice Breath/Aura Sphere/ Butterfly Dance Sniper Kingdra and other ideas later.
