Romance type would actually make sense with a region based on France. The prospect frankly makes me shudder, it'll be overdone, too saccharine and overt.

Let's discuss moves

I'm going to have to go with either Focus Blast or some new type of attack, it's not Aura Sphere as we saw what Aura Sphere looks like when Mienfoo used it.
second is definitely Trump Card
3rd...Calm Mind...or Nasty Plot? Or even a new move.
4th most definitely Swift
What do you guys think?

So much want. It would be a nice contrast to Dark-type (Evil) as well. Screw Light-types, I want this. It fits so many Pokemon too.

Sylveon's evolution method might even be that in-battle bonding mechanic Masuda was harping on. Instead of friendship/happiness it's actually bonding and trusting and all this lovey-dovey crap...man I want Love-type to be true~!

A Love type would be a good replacement for a Light type, though a Love type does not make much sense and I can't imagine what types it could hit super-effectively, or not very effectively, or what it would resist or be weak to.

From what people said above, it seems like Game Freak is trying to break the taboo. Speaking of which, imagine if they changed the Attract mechanics so that it could affect same-sex Pokémon. It would be an act of respect from Game Freak to recognize that homosexuality is natural and that gay couples should have their rights recognized. Although Game Freak would possibly have problems with the Church, I don't see any reason why Game Freak should care about what the Church thinks.

Competitively speaking, I was thinking if Attract would be broken, but there is not any Pokémon that could abuse Attract, now that I am seeing. If it had genders, Jirachi could abuse the para-attract strategy alongside Body Slam/Thunder Wave/Thunder (on rain) to disable the opponent even more, becoming even more annoying. As of now, the only Pokémon that I can think that could abuse the ParaAttract strategy is Dunsparce. However, it is very outclassed on OU. Also, many OU teams are full of genderless Pokémon. Volbeat could also abuse the "ParaAttract" strategy, but it has poor stats. The only other Pokémon that could do this is Thundurus-I, but most Pokémon in Ubers are genderless, so this strategy would be not viable on Ubers.

Something a classmate pointed out to me:
chart from pokemon.com/pokemonxy/en-us/ (open)
All of the Eeveelutions on the right hit the Eeveelution on the left super effectively. This might not mean anything, but it could be a hint to Sylveon's type. Maybe it's Ground. Maybe it's Flying. Maybe it's a new type (please no). They aren't in numerical order by generation (Glaceon comes AFTER Leafeon, not before), so that argument is out.

I still want Fighting Eevee though...

If there's a new type it should get a weakness to poison atleast. A love/light type having a poison weakness would make sense.

If that first move is Focus blast, that might actually bolster the Normal type argument.

Several Normal Pokemon get Fighting as coverage (Flareon has Superpower too), and it's most powerful move it uses is Trump Card. However, I think Eevee and it's evolutions all learn Trump card by level up anyway.

I have no idea what that second move is though, perhaps a new move?

The first attacks looks mostly like Brave Bird, the second one is Trump Card, the third is the wierd one, it's probably a new move, or Dream Eater like Katakiri said, it's the closest bet, but it doesn't really resemble it that much.

Almost everything at the moment point it at being Flying type

Although now looking at it, it's German name is Feelinara, and French name is Nymphali. Former would point to Feelings, and latter to Nymphs... if any speakers of those languages would like to confirm that it sounds about right, that would be quite welcome. If that is the case... love type ahoy?

I really don't see a love type going anywhere, but I really don't want a flying type eveelution, as it just won't be good. I'd really love dragon, but being revealed on valentines day is a huge clue toward the mysterious new type. It could just be the "love Pokemon" or something like that, I am certain the evolution will show off the new friendship mechanics.

The fact that it used two Normal-type moves in the trailer makes me lean toward it being Normal

But the fact that Game Freak is shrowding its typing in so much mystery makes me think it's going to be a new type

But by its appearance, I see Flying-type

That chart appears to be too well thought-out to be a coincidence. Super-effective damage is dealt both across the middle (from Eeveelution to Eeveelution in a straight line via Eevee) or from left to right or right to left. Vaporeon --> Flareon -(across)-> Glaceon --> Leafeon -(across)-> Vaporeon. You also have Umbreon hitting Espeon super-effectively, and Jolteon hitting (or being hit by?) Sylveon.

Either, they set up the rectangle and Espeon/Umbreon, then put the "leftovers" at the top/bottom, or Jolteon and Sylveon hit each other super-effectively somehow.
That, or trolling/coincidence.

Also, the love theme is pretty strong in Sylveon, as DFA posted above. It might be a new type, or it might be an old, but either way, I think it will be a running theme. It can be pretty love-themed without being of the "love/emotion" type (emotion for more applicability), seeing as its ability can reflect most traits GameFreak care to give it. We all know Primeape is notoriously angry, and thus it has Anger Point and Vital Spirit as its abilities. Slaking is lazy, with Truant (and moves like Slack off and Yawn). Dragonite is said to be able to control the weather, and thus gets almost all the weather moves in the game, and so on. Even without restorting to a new type, GameFreak can make Sylveon pretty love-ey.

Appearancewise, I see Sylveon as Flying type, but namewise it seems to be more Bug-influenced.

Nympheon from Nymph, Feelinara from feelers (like antennae), and Sylveon, from forest.

Or it could be the new Love/Light/Divine/Dishsoap/Whatever type people are talking about.

I highly doubt this. They may not care what the Church thinks, but from both a business and a gameplay prespective, there is nothing they have to gain. Its a controversial subject which is very irrelivant to Pokemon, and only likely to hurt sales.

More importantly, what is the point to gameplay mechanics based on gender if gender no longer matters? It would really just serve to upset whatever balancing decisions went into making such mechanics to begin with. I mean its a 50% chance to not attack that never goes away while the Pokemon stay in. That has the ability to be incredibly broken in the hand of a bulky Pokemon (in game, but possibly competitively) if there is no limit on it. It would just be silly to go down this route.

Dishsoap-type, confirmed for uber tier.

It might be game freak trolling by putting so much hype into its typing, only to reveal it as normal.
