Like the flavorful side of ASB? Want a break from the constant grind? Interested in beta testing upcoming attractions? Welcome to PokéStar Studios, a showcase of all great projects in entertainment and flavor. I'll be your tour guide today. Let's start off with a brief recap of what this facility is for.

PokéStar Studios is unique in that there is no way to beat it; in fact, there is no regular challenge mode to it at all! Even the rules and events change regularly. Instead, the Studios are a place for ambitious refs and role players to meet up and play a style of ASB that better matches what they want out of the game.

Simply put, flavor usually doesn't pay in ASB since a flavor-less match and one with 5000 words per action will get the same amount of compensation for the ref. Due to this flavorful and complex matches are rather rare. Long match type such as enormous melees are also hard to justify joining since they take up a match slot. The studios are designed to fix these problems by allowing for flavorful, complex, and large match types or experimental role plays with adequate compensation.

RP Functions, Format

The Studio Events are largely driven by referees. If you want to host something that meets our criteria, send a Private Message to the RP committee (Engineer Pikachu, Frosty, Rediamond) detailing what you would like to host and possibly proposing the amount of UC you would like as compensation. It will be reviewed by the committee and, if approved, will be sponsored through the studios. This means that usual rules on payment are supplanted by the agreed plan, the Studios will help advertise the match, and it will not take up a battle slot for users who enter.

Multiple referees can team up to work an exceptionally large or complex project.

In the future, it may be possible to simply pick up and do a repeat of a type of match that the Studios has previously sponsored. But, for now, you will have to submit your own proposal. To be considered it must fulfill one of the following niches:

1) Be Experimental.

The proposed game must be like nothing else in ASB that players can currently and regularly do. Examples would include a mainly exploration based RP (such as the old LouisCypher RPs), POSSIBLY a limited journey RP (these will be heavily scrutinized if proposed), or a beta-run for a possible new RP that isn't quite whole enough to be proposed or the ref does not want to repeat.

2) Be Flavorful.

If you intend to use enough flavor in a match that the time put in would make the payment of a normal Battle Tower match a dramatic misrepresentation of the work you put in, you may appeal to host a flavor-heavy match to the RP committee. Submitting an example of your writing or (ideally) flavor you've done for another match would be preferable.

3) Be Complex.

If you can make a case that the proposed concept is so complicated that it would require dramatically more effort to ref and play than a normal tower match or battle-based RP, it can be handled through the Studios. Must be more complex than "the arena has a few new factors that might come up from time to time." If you have a Rotation Battle in an ever-shifting arena where RSE contest effects are the primary means of doing damage, then you have yourself a complex battle.

Incredibly large brawls and melees can also be handled through the studios, but those should either be absolutely enormous (Ultimate Showdown big) or also fulfill at least one of the above requirements. This is not a place for facilitating brawls that will be over and done with in one morning, however big they might be.

I want to ref a Contest Battle 1v1 LC/NFE/FE for starters, UC payment can be decided by the PokeStar Studios and I don't mind regular pay. I just want to experiment with a contest battle.

Rules would be similar to Pokémon Contest Spectacular and would include the basic rules of ASB as 1 Round with 3 Actions for a pokemon before the turn for the next pokemon comes up. Including Combos and EN consumption ofcourse. Points would be awarded based on creativity and flavor and would be open to discussion during the battle, to better the grading system for contest battles.

I am sure there may be unexpected hot fixes during the battle. But it will help PokeStar Studios in hosting contest battles in the future.
Edit: Based on low to no interest, dumping this idea as a proposal to be a PokeStar Studios Event.

If you wish to ref something along the rules of something already proposed/done, please link to that thing. Otherwise I won't consider the request because the thread is massive. C/P'ing the rules in your post will work instead of a link, if necessary.

Anyone remember LouisCyphre's Labyrinths? You know those exploration RP's that did not exactly get done? Well now is your chance to participate in one of those that should be done in reasonable time! Well, with some modifications of course. Basically the aim of the Labyrinth is to work as a team to uncover the secrets of a Labyrinth and all those exploratory doodads. This will be the Labyrinth that will be used for the RP:
Pledge Forest

"Deep in the remote wilderness is a forest that is home to an abundant amount of treasures from all sorts of places. These treasures—reportedly stolen from human civilisations—have been recently sighted to be in this forest but it is yet to be explained how these treasures got to the forest in the first place and why they have been taken in the first place. A few months ago a group of explorers went to the forest in search of the treasures but the group have not been seen or heard of since they departed for the forest."

"Not happy about this, the keeper overlooking the forest has enlisted another group of three—the three people who participate in this labyrinth—to try and get the treasures back from the forest and into human civilisation, alongside searching for the ultimate fate of the explorers who have been long gone. You could be the one who uncovers these secrets."

Difficulty: Hard
Chills: Each Pokémon brought by an Explorer has 15 Chills to use for the entire delve.
Pokémon Restrictions: No restrictions on Pokémon that can be brought but players can only bring one Pokémon with them.
Pokémon Capture: Not permitted.
Held Items: Players can bring one item that their Pokémon can hold. No Potions, Poké Balls, etc. can be brought. Pokémon can Mega Evolve if they wish.
Number of Players: 3
For rewards it is standard counters for the player (though there may be some anti-counter farming measures in place for abusers) and for me it is 2 UC Base, 1 UC per non-combat update, 2 UC per combat update.

Okay I am looking for three players. This is not first come first serve and I will probably close signups in 24 hours. I will pick people based on activity track record and IRC Accessibility (because IRC is an incredibly useful communication tool that will be critical to success).

Reuniclus [Bubble] (F)

Mowtom found Bubble while traveling in the Unova region. Her mother belonged to Catlin of the Elite Four, but Bubble wanted to see the world. She did inherit one thing from her mother's trainer, however. Bubble enjoys battling, but she can have trouble staying awake, even during a battle.

Type: Psychic
  • Psychic STAB; can lift and throw opponents with Psychic regardless of Special Attack Rank. Psychic-type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.
Abilities: Overcoat / Magic Guard / Regenerator (Unlocked)
  • This Pokemon has a sturdy exterior that rebuffs the elements, making it immune to damage inflicted by bad weather. The Pokemon is also immune to "Powder" moves. (Full List: Cotton Spore, Poison Powder, Powder, Rage Powder, Sleep Powder, Spore, Stun Spore.) If the Pokemon is already immune to at least one (1) kind of weather, or powder attacks by typing or a different ability, Overcoat reduces the Base Attack Power of all oncoming attacks by one (1).
  • This Pokemon is infused with a powerful psycho-electric energy that makes it immune to damage from Spikes, Stealth Rock, Hail, Sandstorm, Leech Seed, Poisoning, Burn, and Partial Trapping moves. It can still attack itself in confusion, and will still take damage from it. Additionally, the energy protects the Pokemon from its own reckless recoil attacks. Toxic still increases in damage each round, although if Magic Guard is in effect the Pokemon will not suffer any damage. Life Orb recoil is negated.
  • When this Pokemon is switched out during a switch battle, it reacts to the energy in the Pokeball and (ten) 10 HP is restored. When this Pokemon Chills, it restores six (6) HP in addition to its 12 Energy.
