Overview
########
- Politoed is currently the only rain setter in the metagame.
- Politoed is pretty bulky, with having 90/75/100 defenses.
- It can live many hits with his bulk, and the access it has to Scald makes Politoed a pretty good physical wall.
- It can be beaten by the numerous Electric- and Grass-types in the metagame such as Rotom-Wash and Venusaur, while Water- and Grass-types take advantage of Politoed too.
- Politoed's resistance to Fire and the ability to induce rain makes it able to switch into Heat Waves from Heatrans or Charizards.
- Basically the only reason to run Politoed is to support and to set rain.
- Outside of setting rain, Politoed is outclassed by many Water-types such as Rotom-Wash and Keldeo.
- Although Water-, Electric- and Grass-types beat it, they absolutely hate to switch in into Politoed, because rain boosted Scald is a powerful move which burns fairly quickly. This is especially annoying for Pokemon like Amoonguss and Ferrothorn.
- Really even though Politoed made an entire archetype viable, the Pokemon itself sadly sucks.
- A big downside of Politoed it is deadweight in a lot of matchups outside of setting rain. Rain teams are always hyper offensive and Politoed does not fit the role of a hyper offense Pokemon. Even though it is a good support with Helping Hand and Encore, it doesn't offer offensive pressure as Ludicolo or Mega-Swampert do. Other weather setters like Mega-Charizard-Y and Tyranitar don't have this problem.

Rain Setter

name: Rain Setter
move 1: Scald
move 2: Icy Wind
move 3: Helping Hand / Encore
move 4: Protect
ability: Drizzle
item: Sitrus Berry / Damp Rock
evs: 252 hp / 252 def / 4 spd
nature: bold

Moves
========
* Scald is a rain-boosted STAB move that has a chance to cripple and burn threats such as Mega-Kangaskhan and Mega-Metagross.
* Icy Wind is a nice spread move that drops the opponents speed, it's a move that can be used to support, but it does a fair amount damage to Landorus-Therian and some dragons such as Hydreigon and Latios.
* Helping Hand works well with attacking partners, Swift Swim sweepers in particular, by boosting their damage output and letting them get key KOs, considering Helping Hand will always go first due to its priority. Having +5 priority makes it so you outprioritize any other move, even moves such as Fake Out and Protect.
* Encore is a good way for locking foes into non-threatening moves such as Protect, Substitute, and Fake Out.
* Protect is a move used for yielding damage, scouting, burning turns of Tailwind, Trick Room, or let the opponent be crippled of their Poison or Burn. You could also let your teammate get a KO, while not giving up Politoeds position.

Set Details
========
* The EV spread makes it so that you're able to tank as much physical hits as possible, as well as getting significantly bulkier.
* Again, Bold makes it so that you're able to live physical attacks easier.
* Sitrus Berry makes it so that you will live longer, whereas Damp Rock makes it so that the rain stays around for longer.
* Drizzle is the only ability you should use on Politoed, because the rest of the abilities are not useful, especially not for a Pokemon such as Politoed.
* If you're using Choice Specs you can use 252 spa / 252 hp / 4 spd with a Quiet nature to get as much offensive power possible.

Usage Tips
========
* Politoed can be used to cancel other weathers such as Sun and Sand out.
* Encore makes it more difficult for the opponent to use supporting moves, due to the fact it can get locked in when predicted properly.
* Scald is able to cripple your opponent's physical Pokemon and whittling away the foe's HP.
* Helping Hand is a great asset if you want to put extra power behind a move of your teammate. It can net you important kills.
* Politoed is a good switch-in to Mega-Charizard-Y as it removes the sun and forces to switch Charizard out.
* Damp Rock is useful if you want to take more advantage of the Rain.
* Keep it healthy as long as you can in order for it to support its teammates with Rain.
* Use Icy Wind against two fast threats in order to gain the Speed advantage.

Team Options
========
* Swift Swimmers work well with Politoed. Ludicolo, Kingdra and Mega-Swampert are the best Pokemon to fulfill this role.
* A fast and strong Electric-type such as Thundurus, Raikou and Thundurus-Therian are very effective, to fulfill the role of a Mega-Charizard-Y killer. They're also used for their damage output with moves such as Thunder, that has an accuracy boost in rain, for checking other things than only Charizard.
* Bulky Steel-types such as Mega-Metagross, Mega-Mawile and Scizor, are used to resist Dragon and Fairy attack, and the fact that their Fire weakness gets removed is just the icing on the cake. Having a Steel on your team also grants the ability to beat Kyurem-Black, which is a Pokemon often used for beating Rain.
* Having a Pokemon with Intimidate on your team helps Politoed live longer, which is really what you want. An example for this is Landorus-Therian.
* Teammates that can check opposing Electric- and Grass-types such as Kyurem-Black and Hydreigon work really well together with Politoed.
* Talonflame and Shaymin-Sky are very useful on Rain teams because they can clear up bulkier Grass Pokemon

Other Options
########
* Perish Song can be used to force notable threats out, as well as force more bulky threats such as Cresselia out.
* Ice Beam does even a better amount of damage than Icy Wind, so it is able to kill Landorus-Therian, and has a 25% chance to OHKO Shaymin-Sky without using Choice Specs. Ice Beam should also only be used with Choice Specs!
* Hydro Pump should also be used only when you're using the Choice Specs set.
* A playstyle you could use is Rainroom, using Choice Specs Politoed, to deal a lot of damage. You'd be able to use Mega-Ampharos, Mega-Scizor and Escavalier well. Some good Trick Room setters are Jellicent and Gourgeist-Super.
* The opposite of that though is Choice Scarf Politoed. It's less bulky than other Politoed sets because of the EVs you have to invest in speed in special attack, but you will be able to catch opponents off guard by surprising them with this set. Note that this set is more for teams that aren't reliant on rain. You also have to run a Timid nature to be able to outspeed Shaymin-Sky.

Checks & Counters
########
**Opposing Weather**
* Water-type attacks have halved base power when Sun is up. Avoid Scalding opposing Mega-Charizard-Ys or other Fire-typed Pokemon when Sun is up.
* Mega-Charizard-Y and Venusaur are able to use Grass moves on you.
* Politoed does no damage while Sun is up.
* Hail can also be fairly annoying because Abomasnow resists Politoed's attacks and do a ton of damage with his Grass moves in return.

**Typing Advantage**
* Electric- and Grass-types such as Thundurus, Rotom-Wash and Amoonguss are all major threats for Politoed.
* Thundurus has the ability to 2HKO Politoed with Thunderbolt
* Amoonguss doesn't care about Politoed, especially if it's not Encored.

[OVERVIEW]
Politoed's resistance to Fire and ability to induce rain allow it to switch into Heat Wave from Heatran and Mega Charizard Y, which is basically the only edge that rain has over sand and sun: the typing advantage. Politoed is mostly viable as a bulky rain setter, as its 90 / 75 / 100 bulk allows it to survive many hits, and rain's power boost to Scald lets Politoed fully invest EVs into its defenses without losing out on too much power. Outside of being bulky and having Drizzle, it usually fits no other role than supporting. A big downside to Politoed is the fact that it is dead weight in a lot of matchups. Rain teams are always hyper offense, and Politoed does not fit the mold of a hyper offense Pokemon. Even though it is a viable support Pokemon with Helping Hand and Encore, it doesn't offer offensive pressure like Ludicolo and Mega Swampert do. Rain struggles to match the power of many other weather archetypes, which have an easier time maintaining momentum because of the offensive pressure that Mega Charizard Y and Tyranitar can impose on the field. Politoed itself, however, struggles to match the utility or power of other Water-types such as Rotom-W and Keldeo, respectively. Additionally, Politoed gets beaten by the numerous Electric- and Grass-types in the metagame such as Rotom-W and Ferrothorn, and Water- and Grass-types can take advantage of Politoed as well because it cannot threaten them. However, although Water-, Electric-, and Grass-types beat it, they absolutely hate switching into Politoed because rain-boosted Scald is a powerful move with a high burn chance. This is especially annoying for Pokemon such as Amoonguss and Ferrothorn because being burned means they will not be able to keep their utility during the game, as well as Ferrothorn losing out on damage. While Politoed is a decent support Pokemon, it can also run a Choice Specs set that can deal tons of damage, even though you'll trade all its utility away for it. Choice Specs Politoed essentially converts Politoed into both a weather setter and a respectable attacker. Because rain often makes Politoed's partner very threatening, having a slower but still hard-hitting Politoed creates a two-on-two situation rather than allowing your opponent to essentially ignore Politoed. That said, Choice Specs Politoed has its strengths but also its weaknesses, such as being unable to switch moves, lacking Speed, and having less bulk.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
Scald provides Politoed with a reliable STAB attack that has a chance to cripple and burn threats such as Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Metagross, which otherwise could be threatening for your team. Icy Wind is a spread move that drops the foes' Speed by one stage. It's mainly used to support the team, but it does a decent amount of damage to Landorus-T and Dragon-types such as Hydreigon and Latios. Helping Hand works well with offensive partners, especially Swift Swim sweepers, by boosting their damage output and letting them get key KOs. Encore is an alternative too, allowing Politoed to lock foes into non-threatening moves such as Protect, Substitute, and Fake Out. Protect lets Politoed scout, stall out field conditions, rack up chip and burn damage, and avoid taking an otherwise deadly attack.

Set Details
========
A standard 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD EV spread with a Bold nature allows Politoed to tank as many physical hits as possible and significantly boosts its overall bulk. Sitrus Berry allows Politoed to survive for longer, while Damp Rock allows Politoed to support its team even better by offering more turns of rain. Drizzle immediately sets up rain as Politoed switches in, which is the only reason to use Politoed. You can use 0 Speed IVs on Politoed so that it can lock Trick Room setters such as Cresselia and Chandelure into Trick Room with Encore.

Usage Tips
========
Politoed can use Drizzle to cancel other weather conditions such as sun and sand. Politoed is especially a great switch-in to Mega Charizard Y, as it removes the sun from Drought and forces Mega Charizard Y to switch out with the threat of Scald. It will still have to be careful, though, because if Mega Charizard Y switches back in while Politoed is still on the field, your team is in trouble until rain is up again. It is important to note that to support its teammates as long as possible, Politoed has to stay alive for as long as possible to keep rain up.
Use Encore to lock foes into support moves or other harmless moves. Use Helping Hand for a power boost only if necessary. If you use a Pokemon with a sleep-inducing move on your team, be careful with using Scald, as it might burn a foe that you would rather put to sleep.

Team Options
========
Swift Swim sweepers such as Ludicolo, Kingdra, and Mega Swampert work well with Politoed, because their Speed stats get doubled by Drizzle. Even though Mega Charizard Y doesn't like to face Politoed, a fast and strong Electric-type such as Thundurus, Raikou, or Thundurus-T is often beneficial to get rid of it. Their offensive presence and perfectly accurate Thunder allow them to check other foes besides Mega Charizard Y, such as opposing Keldeo and Talonflame. The only downside to Electric-types is that they have a lot of trouble switching in directly. Bulky Steel-types such as Mega Metagross, Mega Mawile, and non-Mega Scizor resist Dragon- and Fairy-type attacks and benefit from the rain removing their weakness to Fire. Having a Steel-type on your team also helps to check Kyurem-B, which is often used for beating rain teams. However, Kyurem-B still hits really hard with Earth Power and Steel-types have trouble switching in directly. Intimidate support from the likes of Landorus-T can help Politoed survive longer. Teammates that can check opposing Electric- and Grass-types, such as Kyurem-B and Hydreigon, also work really well because they can soak up attacks aimed at Politoed. Other strong Flying-types such as Talonflame and Togekiss are very useful for cleaning up bulkier Grass-type Pokemon. Fast Dragon-types such as Kyurem-B, Hydreigon, Latios, and Garchomp to an extent are good picks to beat sun teams and opposing rain teams. Surprisingly, Fire-types such as Talonflame and Heatran are great on rain teams because they check Grass-types and are even stronger when rain faces sun. Fairies such as Mega Gardevoir and Mega Diancie are good picks because they can also beat Kyurem-B. Mega Diancie also beats Thundurus and Mega Charizard Y, both of which are big threats to rain too.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
Hydro Pump is usually Politoed's go-to move due to its high power and the STAB boost. Even though it has somewhat shaky accuracy, it deals tons of damage to foes that don't expect it, and having a Choice Specs-boosted Hydro Pump makes it difficult for opposing Pokemon to switch into Politoed. Use Scald when you don't want to risk a miss; it is also a nice move for crippling physical attackers such as Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Metagross, hitting them hard and possibly even burning them. Ice Beam deals tons of damage to Grass-types such as Amoonguss and non-Mega Venusaur, Ground-types such as Landorus-T, Flying-types such as Thundurus, and Dragon-types such as Hydreigon and Latios. For the fourth moveslot, you can decide between Focus Blast, which hits a few quite notable threats to rain teams in Ferrothorn and Kyurem-B, and Psychic, which hits Keldeo and Mega Venusaur super effectively.

Set Details
========
A 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA EV spread allows Politoed to do a lot of damage and increases its bulk significantly. A Quiet nature with 0 Speed IVs allows Politoed to check Trick Room teams more easily, as most opposing non-Trick Room Pokemon would outspeed Politoed anyway; notably, it makes Politoed slower than Cresselia, which can be nice. Politoed generally should not use Speed EVs, as it is unlikely to benefit from them; however, 84 Speed EVs with a Modest nature allow Politoed to outspeed uninvested Togekiss, and 112 Speed EVs with a Modest nature allow Politoed to outspeed Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T under Tailwind. Choice Specs maximizes Politoed's damage output, and Drizzle is the only reason to use Politoed, providing rain and powering up Politoed's STAB moves.

Usage Tips
========
Usually, Hydro Pump is the best move to use, unless a foe is 4x weak to one of Politoed's other moves. Be wary of opposing sun teams, though, as even though Politoed is still fairly strong thanks to Choice Specs, sun will drastically cut its damage output.

Team Options
========
Considering that this set focuses on dealing damage instead of providing rain support, having a second rain setter is appreciated; examples include Rain Dance Kingdra, Rain Dance Thundurus, and Rain Dance Tornadus. Even though your team is usually far less reliant on rain when using Choice Specs Politoed, you can still use Swift Swim sweepers effectively, mainly Ludicolo, Kingdra, and Mega Swampert. Ludicolo is the best Swift Swim sweeper alongside Politoed because it beats other Water-types that try to soak up Hydro Pumps. Other Grass-types such as Venusaur and Serperior can still be put on the team, though they are less useful. Talonflame or Heatran is a good partner to get rid of opposing Grass- and Steel-types that wall Politoed.

Due to Politoed's low Speed, it fits well on Trick Room teams. Some decent Trick Room setters are Slowbro and Jellicent because Drizzle's rain boosts their Water-type moves too; however, they will stack weaknesses with Politoed. Other viable setters include Gourgeist-XL, as its weakness to Fire is removed in rain, and Chandelure, as rain teams often like having a Fire-type to take care of Grass-types that can easily take Politoed's strong Hydro Pump. Good teammates on Trick Room teams are Fairy-types such as Mega Mawile, Sylveon, and Azumarill because they are able to get rid of Dragon-types such as Kyurem-B, Latios, and Hydreigon; taking out Kyurem-B is particularly important because it walls rain teams. Mega Diancie also gets rid of other Flying-types in addition to some Electric-types that are dangerous to Politoed, such as Thundurus and Zapdos. You can also use your own Dragon-types such as Latios, Hydreigon, and Kyurem-B to get rid of other Dragon-types and to beat sun teams, which is important because sun negates a lot of Politoed's damage. Kyurem-B also has a strong Ice-type attack to get rid of Zapdos and Thundurus. Escavalier is a good partner as well because it can take care of Grass-types, such as opposing Ludicolo and Venusaur, and Ice-types, notably being able to take out Kyurem-B with Iron Head. If you want another Steel-type, you can also use Mega Scizor. An Electric-type such as Mega Ampharos is also appreciated to get rid of other Water-types.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
========
Perish Song can be used to force notable threats out, especially bulky threats such as Cresselia. Choice Specs sets can also use Hyper Voice as a spread move to break Focus Sash, but it is usually less effective than other moves. Choice Scarf can also be used; although it requires full Speed and Special Attack investment, but you will be able to catch opponents off guard. Note that this set is better suited for teams that aren't reliant on rain and is usually less effective than Politoed's other sets.

Checks and Counters
========
**Opposing Weather**: Because sun halves the Base Power of Water-type attacks, opposing Mega Charizard Y and other Fire-type Pokemon don't mind Scald when sun is up. The pair of Mega Charizard Y and Venusaur is able to use strong Grass-type moves on Politoed, and Politoed does hardly any damage in return while sun is up. Hail can also be fairly annoying because Mega-Abomasnow resists Politoed's attacks and can do a ton of damage with its Grass-type moves in return.

**Typing Advantage**: Electric- and Grass-types such as Thundurus, Rotom-W, Ferrothorn, and Amoonguss are all major threats to Politoed. Thundurus has the ability to 2HKO Politoed with Thunderbolt, and Amoonguss doesn't care about Politoed, even if Politoed locks it into an unfavorable move with Encore.

**Strong Attackers**: Politoed has trouble with strong attackers such as Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Gardevoir, and Hydreigon, all of which can take it out with their sheer power.

i think icy wind should be slashed near encore instead of scald. scald is something you need on your politoed and there really shouldnt be anything slashed near it imo

should also mention damp rock under items instead of leftovers

I would specify that Encore will mainly be for users of status, because there are few slow Fake Out users viable in Doubles OU. The only common ones I can think of are Hitmontop and Scrafty, and the former is going to probably be running Quick Guard/Detect/Sucker Punch, but regardless it won't care all that much to be Encored. Scrafty might be concerned, so you could mention it as a one-off example, but he justification should be mostly along the lines of Cresselia and Amoonguss, just for example.

Don't say Protect is "self-explanatory" - it should be for yielding damage/scouting/biding time while burn and/or poison cripple foes.

Usage Tips

Politoed can most definitely switch in on a predicted Mega Charizard Y Solar Beam and Protect the next turn, and having had rain set up, a partner can take that turn to take out Zard.

Team Options

I mean, Mega Manectric is cool and all, but you're sacrificing a Mega slot as a "Mega Charizard Y killer" when you have tons of Swift Swim sweeper potential already. Also, things like Thundurus provide lots of alternative utility and that slot just shouldn't be given to a Mega that has plenty of more applicable alternatives.

I'm iffy on those examples as Steel-type partners. Even under rain, Heatran 2HKOes AV Escavalier, and Drill Run does ~65% to Heatran and Scizor stands no chance:

252+ SpA Heatran Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Escavalier in Rain: 216-256 (62.7 - 74.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Heatran Heat Wave vs. 164 HP / 0 SpD Scizor in Rain: 408-484 (126.7 - 150.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Heatran Heat Wave vs. 164 HP / 0 SpD Mega Scizor in Rain: 336-400 (104.3 - 124.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Metagross also isn't all that common, but most will be Mega Metagross and it is unlikely to run bulky spreads as a tradeoff for offense, and Earth Power does more to Metagross than Heat Wave.

You say you can run "Rainroom" playstyle but don't describe how exactly to set it up (which partners would run it well). You gave offensive partners, though, which all seem solid.

Other Options

Specify that Ice Beam has a 25% chance to OHKO Skymin outside of the Specs set and I recommend making it obvious right away that Ice Beam should be only on the Specs set since it's a little unclear in your bullet point.

With Choice Scarf, mention that it has to run Timid to outspeed Skymin.

Checks & Counters

Amoonguss doesn't particularly care for any of Politoed's shit, especially if its not in a position to get Encored into something useless.

Thundurus doesn't just "wear Politoed down" if it's the special attacking set:

252 SpA Life Orb Thundurus Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Politoed: 374-439 (97.3 - 114.3%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

and even the bulky Sitrus set 2HKOes:

64 SpA Thundurus Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Politoed: 248-294 (64.5 - 76.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

so you might as well be forward about it.

you might want to mention perish song in other options. Its pretty handy if your opponent has two mons left, or if you run goth. Also, Mega diancie would be another good mon to list in team options, as it beats thundy-i and zard y, which are two pretty big threats to rain/politoed. analysis looks good btw :)

Overview

- Say that it can live many hits with its bulk
- You don't have to mention its Speed because it's not primarily an attacker.
Politoed has okay coverage with Scald and Ice Beam, and it is able to kill a fair amount of Ground, Rock and Grass Pokemon, such as Landorus-Therian, Rhyperior and Shaymin-Sky.
- it doesn't even use Ice Beam lol. Instead, just say that it doesn't hold much offensive presence and is reliant on Scald's burn chance and type match-ups to be threatening
- The rain playstyle has dropped in usage since generation 5, because weather isn't permanent anymore. Due to this fact, rain has become a significantly weaker playstyle.
- This is fluff. Remove it.
- Wording: Say that it can be beat by the numerous Electric- and Grass-types in the metagame such as Rotom-W and Shaymin-Sky, while its coverage lets it taken advantage of by opposing Water- and Grass-types
- Say that its typing and the Rain it brings makes it a good switch-in to Fire-types such as Zard and Tran
- Say that outside of setting Rain, it's pretty much outclassed by other Water-types such as Rotom-W and Keldeo.

Set

-
I'd slash it like this if I were you
  • Scald
  • Icy Wind
  • Helping Hand / Encore
  • Protect
- It just can't take advantage of Encore much and Icy Wind is a kinda good move to have mostly.

Moves

-
you don't have to say that Scald is 100% and has a 30% to burn because everyone already knows this. Instead word it like: "Scald is a rain-boosted STAB move that has a chance to cripple and burn threats such as <mons here>"
- Helping Hand: Swift Swimmers aren't the only ones that benefit; say that "it works well with attacking partners, Swift Swim sweepers in particular, by boosting their damage output and letting them get key KOs"
- Encore: just say that it's good for locking foes into non-threatening moves such as Protect, Substitute, and Fake Out.
- say that Protect also lets its partners get KOs without giving up Politoed's position, stall out field conditions such as Trick Room and opposing Tailwind, etc.

Usage Tips

-
mention keeping it healthy for as long as you can in order for it to support its teammates with Rain
- mention using Icy Wind against two fast threats in order to gain the Speed advantage.
- don't say Scald is a wincon, just say that it's good way to pressure opposing Physical attackers
- the burn chance is also good for whittling foes' HP as well
- When against Sun teams, Toed is a good switch-in to Zard as it also removes its sun while also forcing it to switch out.

Team Options

-
Electrics are also used for their damage output (mostly with Thunder), not just for checking Zard-Y.
Only mention Thundurus-T and Raikou; Thundurus(-I) isn't used much for offense and Mega Mane is shit.
- Steels are used as a Dragon and Fairy resists mostly; the fact their Fire weaknesses get removed is just icing on the cake. Mention Mega Metagross first, Scizor second, don't mention Escav.
- Mention Intimidate as this helps Politoed live longer (which is what it really wants). Examples are Lando-T
- Teammates that can check opposing Grasses and Electrics, such as Kyu-B and Hydreigon, are great with Politoed.
- Don't mention Choice Specs RainRoom here lol

Other Options

- mention Perish Song lol.
- Ice Beam should only be used on offensive sets. Mention Hydro Pump too along with it
- Specs first then Scarf

Checks and Counters

-
rename "Sun" to "Opposing Weather"
- Mention Hail too as Aboma can be pretty annoying to Politoed as it resists while also removing Rain
- It's "Typing Advantage" without the "s"
- Generalize first before mentioning examples. Like, say Electric-types, such as Rotom-W and Thundurus can KO Politoed. Additionally mention that Rotom-W resists Toed's moves
- Grass-types, such as Skymin and Amoong...

wew kid

First things first, be sure to change it to the new format listed in this thread.

[OVERVIEW]
- Bulky and access to Scald make it a pretty solid physical wall.
- Mention that although Water, Electric, and Grass-types can beat it, a lot of them hate switching in because rain boosted Scald is pretty powerful and burns absolutely suck, especially for something like Shaymin-S or Ferrothorn.

and then this is the point where I realize you have no Set Details section, tag me once you've put on in and I'll do the rest of my check.

hello! i love to use rain teams so hopefully i can give a nice check here

Overview
  • even though politoed's ability single-handedly made an entire archetype viable, the mon itself sucks.
  • like you've said, drizzle is its only niche against other water types that would outclass it, like rotom-w or keldeo. however, a big downside of politoed is that it can sometimes be dead weight in a lot of matchups outside of setting rain. rain teams are, of course, hyperoffensive, and politoed, being a bulky mon, doesn't really fit well with that. sure, it can support with icy wind or helping hand, but it cant really provide the offensive pressure that something like ludicolo or mega swampert can.
  • basically, just make a mention of how one of politoed's downsides is how even though it doesnt fit well on offensive rain teams, its required in order for rain teams to function. something like char-y on sun teams doesnt have this problem.
Moves
  • when you say that helping hand always goes first, some people might think that you're being misleading, since some regular priority moves like extremespeed have similar descriptions.
  • so, give them more information about helping hand. be more technical. say that it always goes first because of its +5 priority, which out-prioritizes any other priority move in the game. it even outspeeds protect, not like it matters though
Team Options
  • talonflame or skymin are very useful on rain teams because they get rid of bulky grass types i.e. mega venu, amoonguss
  • when you mention steel types, include mega mawile, too.
  • also, mention that steel types help rain teams by getting rid of kyube, since its a mon thats typically used as a rain check

once you implement this, tag me and i'll look it over one last time and hopefully give you 2/3!

just one more change: the last point in your overview is phrased weirdly, so just remove it. instead, in the point above it, say that "other weather setters like chary and (mega) ttar dont have this problem" at the end of that point

after you do that, its 2/3!

I'm iffy on those examples as Steel-type partners. Even under rain, Heatran 2HKOes AV Escavalier, and Drill Run does ~65% to Heatran and Scizor stands no chance:

252+ SpA Heatran Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Escavalier in Rain: 216-256 (62.7 - 74.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Heatran Heat Wave vs. 164 HP / 0 SpD Scizor in Rain: 408-484 (126.7 - 150.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Heatran Heat Wave vs. 164 HP / 0 SpD Mega Scizor in Rain: 336-400 (104.3 - 124.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
You forgot to set the field to doubles when you ran your calcs.
252+ SpA Heatran Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Escavalier in Rain: 160-192 (46.5 - 55.8%) -- 64.8% chance to 2HKO

Escav is one of the best steels to use on a rain team IMO. It doesn't loose to Amoonguss, and it has base 20 speed to check TR.

Edit: it's immune to Rage Powder too.

Overview
########

- "In Doubles OU, Politoed is currently the only rain setter in the metagame because the other Rain setter is banned. " - This sentence is unnecessary, no one is really going to ask "why" Politoed is the only rain setter, and anyway it's not, it's the only automatic rain setter.
- 90/75/100 bulk is good but not great, don't blow up its bulk too much - it's actually below average. Politoed just seems bulky because it can invest fully on its defenses since rain boost is enough to make Scald strong.
- "Other weather setters like Mega-Charizard-Y and Tyranitar don't have this problem as they offer some offensive pressure and for that reason if you are searching for a good Water-type choices like Rotom-Wash and Keldeo are much better." - This sentence is a bit all over the place. Your content is on point, but you imply that Zard Y and TTar might also be used only because they are "good type choices". What you should be trying to say is that 1. compared to other weather, Politoed is more subpar and 2. compared to other Water, Politoed is more subpar. Split the two clauses into two sentences to make things clearer, something like:
"Rain struggles to match the power of many other weather archetypes, which have an easier time maintaining momentum because of the offensive pressure setters like Mega Charizard Y and Tyranitar can impose on the field. Politoed itself even struggles to match the utility of other Water-types like Rotom-W or the power of other Water-types like Keldeo."
- "However, Politoed's resistance to Fire and the ability to induce rain makes it able to switch into Heat Waves from Heatrans or Charizards." - This sentence should be moved to the front of the paragraph. Also mention that the reason why this is relevant is that it is the main reason why rain can contend against Sun - typing advantage. That's pretty much all that rain has over things like sand and sun.

Moves
========
- "Having +5 priority lets you outprioritize any other move, even moves such as Fake Out and Protect." - Remove Protect mention because that doesn't make a difference, mention that outprioritizing Fake Out allows you move before being flinched in case you are targetted.

Set Details
========
- "Drizzle is the only ability you should use on Politoed, because the rest of the abilities are not useful, especially not for a Pokemon such as Politoed who is incredibly limited. " - You can take this even further because Drizzle is the only reason why anyone would use Politoed in the first place. No Drizzle = even Milotic is better.
- "You can also use Choice Specs as an item with a 252 spa / 252 hp / 4 spd EV spread with a Quiet nature to get as much offensive power possible." - Mention that you list Quiet because it makes Toed compatible with Trick Room.

Usage Tips
========
- "Politoed can use Drizzle to cancel other weather such as Sun and Sand out, especially paired with a Damp Rock which allows you to make more use of the Rain while it is active." - Damp Rock doesn't "allow you to make more use of the rain", it only extends the rain so you can use it longer. And don't say especially because Damp Rock doesnt help Toed beat other weathers, it just extends the natural length of rain. Zard Y or TTar switch in will still change the weather back.
- In Toed vs Zard mention, say that you have to be careful because if Zard catches Toed while sun is up your team is fucked until you can put rain back up. So, if you're playing against sun, scout for sun setters besides Zard and always keep toed in the wings of Zard is not out so you can cancel the sun if Zard does switch in.
- The entire second paragraphs sounds more like a Moves section than a Usage Tips section. Instead of explaining what each move does, explain how the player should use it. For example, tell them to use Encore to lock other Pokemon into support moves or other harmless moves that arent threatening. Tell them to use Helping Hand for a partner if and only if the power boost is significant. Tell them to use Scald all other times, not only to deal chip damage but also for the nice burn chance. Tell them to use Icy Wind for Speed control.
- You might want to mention that if Sleeping is important, be careful wish Scald because the burn will not allow you to sleep something you otherwise might need to sleep.

Team Options
========
- "Even though Mega-Charizard-Y doesn't like to be up versus Politoed, a fast and strong Electric-type is often beneficial to get rid of Mega-Charizard-Y." - I dont think you explain this phenomenon extensively enough. You need Electric-types to give you the advantage against Zard Y, since rain and sun are pretty tied when it comes to winning the weather war. It is true that you win if rain is up, but sun wins if sun is up, since Zard can rip Toed apart easily with Solarbeam. Electric-types give rain a non rain-reliant, fast (which is why you dont suggest things slower than Zard Y because that defeats the point), and powerful way to beat Zard whenever necessary. The only problem is that a lot of them cant switch in directly.
- Don't say that Steels beat Kyurem-B; they only check it, because Earth Power still hits really hard and 2HKOs all the Steels on your list, preventing them from being able to switch in on Sub Kyu-B
- You could also add fast Dragons (Lati@s, Garchomp to an extent, but both are extremely niche and Kyu-B and Hydrei and mostly better) which beats sun and other rain which is very useful.
- Fire-types, while it may seem counterintuitive, are great on rain because they check Grass-types and grow even stronger when rain faces sun. Talonflame is a prime example; Heatran as well.

Ctrl + F "Diancie" brought up 2 results, Megacybers post and my own.

I still don't see it. Mention Diancie and Gardevoir in team options dude. I didn't write that previous post for laughs.

Overview:
some weird phrasing but w/e GP can deal with it (sorry GP I love you)

Moves:
", because Helping Hand will always go first because of its priority. Having +5 priority lets you outprioritize any other move, even moves such as Fake Out. This is great because even if you are targetted by Fake Out, you won't get flinched" You don't need this.

"It is used for yielding damage, scouting, burning turns of Tailwind or Trick Room, or let the opponent be crippled of their Poison or Burn. You could also let your teammate get a KO, while not giving up Politoeds position." turn it into "Protect does a number of things, including letting Politoed scout, stalling out field conditions, allowing the foes chip and status damage accumulate, and avoid taking an otherwise deadly attack." basically the same thing but neater

Set Details:
You can also use 0 Spe IVs on Toed so you can Encore Trick Room setters like Cress and 'Lure into Trick Room. Also Specs plays entirely differently than the main set, why is it even mentioned here?

Team Options:
"You need Electric-types to get the advantage versus Charizard, since Rain and Sun are pretty much tied when it comes to winning the weather war. It is true that you win if rain is up, but sun wins if sun is up, since Charizard can rip up Politoed easily with Solarbeam. Electric-types give a fast and non-rain reliant, fast and a powerful way to beat Charizard when necessary. The only downside to Electric-types are that they have a lot of trouble switching in directly." Rain hasn't needed an Electric-type in a while, but it does like them. Just write "Electric-types help versus Charizard, and enjoy having perfect accuracy Thunder in the Rain, however they struggle to switch-in." Cut out that bolded part.

Also I will repeat: MEGA DIANCIE AND MEGA GARDEVOIR

Other Options:
Looks fine I guess

Checks and Counters:
Add a strong attackers tag (is that still an available tag? i literally can't remember) because 'Mons like Kanga, Gardevoir, Hydreigon, and shit all can beat this thing easily

as usual, i'd prefer you wait a bit to see if any other qc members have something to add last minute, but consider this

3 / 3

Did this really get to 3/3 without an offensive set?

Rain is too passive to use this kind of Politoed in many matchups.

Nope all I see repeatedly is people stressing that rain is HO but toed is bulky so it's bad... rather than actually recommending the use of a non-bulky toed.

My bad for not touching this analysis earlier, but geez

Aight if Specs is being added, I'd like checkmater75 to weigh in since he's the only person I know who actually uses it.

Though off the top of my head I can see offensive Toed going something like

Politoed @ Choice Specs
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 36 Def / 220 SpA
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast
- Encore / Psychic

The HP / Def always lives an Adamant Kanga Return, and Rain + Specs means you don't really care too much about the lowered Spa (couldn't find any missed OHKO / 2HKO's). With like Scald and Helping Hand as possible options, a bit more emphasis on Trick Room support for Team Options. Not sure about Usage Tips which is what I'm hoping check can help most with...

Edit: Also maybe a faster spread to outrun like Togekiss or something?_?
