His spirit came back from the under world in a Team Rocket's experiment and entered a pokemon who shared similar artistic tastes. Thus Michelangelo the Smeargle came into being and it was a fateful encounter on a stormy night that led Fletchner to Michelangelo. No one know when or why Michelangelo's spirit had come back, yet. But we may soon find out.
