Rate of the Month
Welcome to Rate of the Month Christmas edition! This is a project that looks to bring quality individual rates into the spotlight and recognize the hard work of unbadged raters. Here's how it will work:
  • During December, official Team Raters will be paying close attention to the RMT forum and reading the rates posted in their respective tiers. They will then shortlist a few which will be in contention for the Rate of the Month.
  • A few rates will be chosen which most exemplify the qualities of an excellent one. There will be one overall winner and a few mentions.
  • A post will be made by an official TR who specializes in that tier, explaining how and why the particular rate won. This will allow aspiring raters to gain an idea of what constitutes high-quality rates, and hopefully incorporate those aspects into their own rates.
  • There will be multiple winners this month. We hope that this will help expand rating activity in the new SM forums!
  • Official Team Raters are eligible to win, but unbadged raters will have priority.
So what's in it for the winners? Well, they will earn a place in the Hall of Fame, which will be kept in the OP of every thread, and will earn more consideration for the Ladybug
and Team Rater
badges. Also, after gaining three places in the Hall of Fame, a rater will be eligible to earn voice status in the RMT room on PS! on the condition that they've shown an interest in getting involved.
We hope that this project will encourage people to put more effort into their rates and become better and more experienced raters, which will increase the quality as well as quantity of rates in the forum. Good luck to you all!

This month's winner is Mambo, who made an incredibly solid rate for the team.

It is notably difficult to rate very good teams, especially without weakening their performance overall. However this is exactly what Mambo did. Seeing as the team was balanced oriented without resists to the notable Flying and Fighting Pokemon of LC, he suggested Protect over Energy Ball on Abra. Mambo explained that Energy Ball was of little use as half of the team Knock Offed Mudbray's Eviolite, allowing Psychic to 2HKO, and Psychic did near enough to OHKO all Shell Smash users after a boost anyway. Mambo also pointed out that Thunderbolt Staryu and Ferroseed also counter Shell Smashers. And with Protect, Abra is able to fend off Fake Out users to preserve its Sash, while burning Sun turns in a pinch. More importantly, Protect allows Abra to scout out Scarf Ruffled, Scarf Doduo, and Scarf Mienfoo, making them far easier to deal with.

Mambo goes on to note that making Vullaby physically defensive to further help handle Scarf Mienfoo, however this is at the expense of the passable Sun matchup. He does admit he would not make this change himself as Sun is absolutely terrifying, but he does present the option for Sken to choose should he be okay with weakening the Sun matchup as to solidify the team against very threatening Scarf Mienfoo.

Thanks to his phenomenal rate, Mambo has earned himself a spot in the Hall of Fame! Congratulations!

The winner for December is AnishSomani, who made a solid rate for the team.

He first starts by naming threats to the team, including Charizard y, Pheromosa, Tornadus-therian, stall and especially Heatran. He starts off by recommending Rockium Z Terakkion over Hoopa U which helps the team deal with Charizard y, Heatran and can aid in breaking down defensive teams. His next recommendation was to run Metagross-Mega over Scizor-Mega. Metagross-Mega helps the team versus Pheromosa (by using bullet punch) and call also pick off weakened Tapu Koko and Tornadus-therian. Metagross-Mega can also compliment Terrakion by weakening Terrakion switching like Landorus-therian. He also states that Metagross-Mega does not give threats like Charizard y and Heatran a free switch in which Scizor-Mega did. Metagross-Mega also appreciates Magnezone, which can help eliminate steel types like Scizor-Mega and Skarmory. His final change was Chople Berry over Choice Specs on Magnezone which helps the team versus Alakazam-Mega and Metagross-Mega by being able to take the fighting move and retaliating back with a Thunder Wave making them easier to deal with.

Thanks to his rate, AnishSomani has earned himself a spot in the hall of fame. Congratulations!
