Gen 1 RBY OU Warstory (Dre vs Jorgen)

I've always wanted to do a warstory so here it is. I picked this battle because I felt I played well and didn't really get any hax, and Jorgen is a good player.

Dre
Alakazam Chansey Victreebell Cloyster Rhydon Dragonite

Jorgen

Jorgen sent out Alakazam!
Dre. sent out Alakazam!

One of the most annoying lead scenarios. It's always difficult to tell whether their zam is willing to trade para or not at the start of the battle because you don't know what their strategy is. My normal move is to go to chansey, but a lot of the time they go to eggy, which means my zam has to take the sleep without doing anything first. I don't want particularly want to get my zam paralysed, as he's the only speed my team has. However, I decide to gamble with twave, hoping he'll go to eggy...

Start of turn 1
The foe's Alakazam used Psychic!
It's not very effective...
Alakazam lost 56 HP! (17% of its health)
Alakazam's Special fell!

Alakazam used Thunder Wave!
The foe's Alakazam is paralyzed! It may be unable to move!

This went a lot better than I expected. My team is obviously a wrap team, and he's now lost the only speed he has apart from tauros, which proves to be very costly for him throughout the battle.

Start of turn 2
Dre. called Alakazam back!
Dre. sent out Chansey!

The foe's Alakazam used Psychic!
Chansey lost 127 HP! (18% of its health)

I assumed he expected chansey here and plans to freeze, hence no twave.

Start of turn 3
Chansey used Thunder Wave!
The foe's Alakazam is already paralyzed.

The foe's Alakazam used Psychic!
Chansey lost 124 HP! (17% of its health)

I expected him to go snorlax or chansey here. Paralysing chansey is very good for my team, as it allows my rhydon to outspeed it. This means my wrappers can now use free switches to get my rhydon on chansey when it is at 66% or less for a free KO. Rhydon is my main offensive pokemon, and abusing situations like this is central to my strategy and how I often break through my opponents.

Start of turn 4
Chansey used Softboiled!
Chansey regained health!

The foe's Alakazam used Psychic!
A critical hit!
Chansey lost 242 HP! (34% of its health)

Start of turn 5
Jorgen called Alakazam back!
Jorgen sent out Exeggutor!

Chansey used Thunderbolt!
It's not very effective...
The foe's Exeggutor lost 8% of its health!

He finally gets eggy in on my chansey. and manages to avoid twave or ibeam. It was probably scrubby of me to show him tbolt, but I like to mix up my attacks so that he can't easily predict what I'll use, and I may catch a switch-in super-effectively.It worked against me this time though.

Start of turn 6
Dre. called Chansey back!
Dre. sent out Alakazam!

The foe's Exeggutor used Sleep Powder!
The attack of the foe's Exeggutor missed!

I get lucky here with the miss. Zam is my dedicated sleep aborber, and any good player needs to incorporate a sleep absorber into their strategy. I use zam as mine for a number of reasons. Firstly, he often gets to paralyse eggys, which makes my rhydon's job of hitting them on the switch a lot easier. Secondly he threatens gengar, who can be a huge problem for this team and completely cock-blocks my dragonite. I prefer him to be asleep rather than paralysed, because when he's asleep he can try to wake up on wrappers who stay in on him, and he keeps his speed this way, rather than losing it if he's paralysed. I don't mind too much that a sleeping zam often lures snorlax and tauros, because I have cloyster for them.

Start of turn 7
Jorgen called Exeggutor back!
Jorgen sent out Alakazam!

Alakazam used Seismic Toss!
The foe's Alakazam lost 31% of its health!

I knew he'd go to zam here, hence the stoss. I use stoss over reflect because stoss is better on lead zams, and this zam's job is really just to take sleep and troll special pokemon if it can.

Start of turn 8
Alakazam used Seismic Toss!
The foe's Alakazam lost 31% of its health!

The foe's Alakazam used Recover!
The foe's Alakazam regained health!

Not sure why I gambled here or was willing to take the para, but either way I was pretty lucky.

Start of turn 9
Dre. called Alakazam back!
Dre. sent out Chansey!

Jorgen called Alakazam back!
Jorgen sent out Chansey!

He doesn't seem interested in paralysing my zam for some reason. He didn't have much to lose here as his zam was already parad, but he may have feared losing to stoss if he got FP hax. I went to chansey fearing twave.

Start of turn 10
Chansey used Ice Beam!
The foe's Chansey lost 10% of its health!

The foe's Chansey used Ice Beam!
Chansey lost 75 HP! (10% of its health)

I normally para chanseys, but here I wait to see what he does. If he twaves my chansey, mine can sit in front of his and fire off ibeams comfortably until he goes to snorlax. He decides to ibeam too.

Start of turn 11
Jorgen called Chansey back!
Jorgen sent out Alakazam!

Chansey used Softboiled!
Chansey regained health!

Pretty good option for him considering that his zam is already paralysed.

Start of turn 12
Chansey used Thunderbolt!
The foe's Alakazam lost 19% of its health!

The foe's Alakazam used Psychic!
Chansey lost 132 HP! (18% of its health)

Start of turn 13
Chansey used Thunderbolt!
The foe's Alakazam lost 20% of its health!

The foe's Alakazam used Recover!
The foe's Alakazam regained health!

Start of turn 14
Chansey used Thunder Wave!
The foe's Alakazam is already paralyzed.

The foe's Alakazam used Psychic!
Chansey lost 130 HP! (18% of its health)

For these last few turns I'm just stalling to see what he does, hence why I use tbolt to conserve ibeam PP (as his chansey isn't paralysed at this point) and twave hoping to catch something.

Start of turn 15
Jorgen called Alakazam back!
Jorgen sent out Exeggutor!

Chansey used Thunderbolt!
It's not very effective...
The foe's Exeggutor lost 8% of its health!

He gets eggy in on tbolt again. Decent play by him, once he realised I was just going to sit there he took the initiative to pressure me with sleep.

Start of turn 16
Dre. called Chansey back!
Dre. sent out Alakazam!

The foe's Exeggutor used Sleep Powder!
Alakazam fell asleep!

This time he gets it. Zam has a decent chance of waking up against eggy, but I don't want zam to take unnecessary damage at the moment. I also don't want to lure physicals right now, because I don't want to show my cards too early when I don't need to, so I go to chansey.

Start of turn 17
Dre. called Alakazam back!
Dre. sent out Chansey!

The foe's Exeggutor used Psychic!
Chansey lost 113 HP! (16% of its health)
Chansey's Special fell!

A lot of people probably wouldn't agree with this switch. Truth is, I don't mind if eggy booms, because it makes my rhydon instantly more threatening to him, and I haven't seen any sign of starmie, who is next best switch-in to rhydon.

Start of turn 18
Jorgen called Exeggutor back!
Jorgen sent out Snorlax!

Chansey used Softboiled!
Chansey regained health!

He finally forces me to play my hand. I go to cloyster.

Start of turn 19
Dre. called Chansey back!
Dre. sent out Cloyster!

Jorgen called Snorlax back!
Jorgen sent out Chansey!

Interesting move by Jorgen. I can't read his mind, but I'm guessing he may have been trying to bait a twave for his chansey. He may have also been scouting for counter in an unorthodox manner, or expecting a pokemon that I can't think of. Regardless, it turned out well for me.

Start of turn 20
Cloyster used Clamp!
The foe's Chansey lost 4% of its health!

Start of turn 21
Dre. called Cloyster back!
Dre. sent out Victreebel!

I'm not going to try sweep chansey with clamp because it'll likely miss, plus it's not worth wasting the limited PP on a pokemon that can switch out and recover later. Instead I chain-switch to bell to instantly pressure him with sleep. Plays like this one are really at the heart of my strategy and the way I maintain pressure and attempt to break through the opponent. An opposing chansey serves as a pivot for my team, as I have a switch-in for everyone of chansey's moves that puts immediate pressure on his team. I have to predict well though, as a twave for my wrappers or ibeam for rhydon can throw my whole game-plan out the window.

Jorgen called Chansey back!
Jorgen sent out Lapras!

Start of turn 22
Victreebel used Sleep Powder!
The foe's Lapras fell asleep!

The foe's Lapras is fast asleep.

Considering that he switched a water type into a razor leafer who outspeeds it, I'm guessing he anticipated sleep here. Good play on his part, as lapras is a good sleep absorber. He may have ordinarily gone to zam, but because it's paralysed I could just wrap it.

Start of turn 23
Jorgen called Lapras back!
Jorgen sent out Chansey!

Victreebel used Wrap!
A critical hit!
The foe's Chansey lost 9% of its health!

Sometimes I stun spore here, but I figured he may read that and keep lapras in and waste one of my turns. In these situations wrap eases predictions and allows me to maintain pressure no matter what he does. Going to chansey was probably a good move on his behalf, as keeping a sleeping pokemon in on a wrap team can be a bad idea, as it allows them to set up dragonite. At this point however, with everything healthy, dragonite wouldn't be able to threaten much and would be comfortably PP stalled.

Start of turn 24
Jorgen called Chansey back!
Jorgen sent out Exeggutor!

Victreebel used Wrap!
The foe's Exeggutor lost 3% of its health!

Start of turn 25
Jorgen called Exeggutor back!
Jorgen sent out Lapras!

Victreebel used Wrap!
The attack of Victreebel missed!

These last few turns are just me maintain pressure to see what he does. If he starts to get predictable with his switches, I can make an offensive switch to pressure him even more. Here I actually get very lucky that bell's wrap misses his sleeping lapras. This gives me a free razor leaf on his lapras.

Start of turn 26
Jorgen called Lapras back!
Jorgen sent out Exeggutor!

Victreebel used Stun Spore!
The foe's Exeggutor is paralyzed! It may be unable to move!

I knew he wouldn't keep lapras in for that, so I stun spore. As I said before, paralysing eggy makes my rhydon's job a bit easier.

Start of turn 27
Victreebel used Wrap!
The foe's Exeggutor lost 3% of its health!

Start of turn 28
Dre. called Victreebel back!
Dre. sent out Chansey!

Jorgen called Exeggutor back!
Jorgen sent out Lapras!

I go to chansey here because I don't want to risk a wrap miss against eggy and I don't care if his eggy booms on my chansey. As I said before my rhydon becomes more threatening when it's gone. He goes to lapras, presumably to stall my wrap, but I had other ideas...

Start of turn 29
Jorgen called Lapras back!
Jorgen sent out Chansey!

Chansey used Thunder Wave!
The foe's Chansey is paralyzed! It may be unable to move!

bingbongballer is watching the battle.

I get the para on chansey. I wasn't completely sure what he'd send in (in hindsight chansey was the obvious choice) but I don't really care what I paralyse.

Start of turn 30
Dre. called Chansey back!
Dre. sent out Cloyster!

The foe's Chansey is paralyzed! It can't move!

I gamble here and go to cloyster. It was unlikely that he would have done anything but ibeam here, unless he read that I'd switch out, so I'm not really sure how 'lucky' I got with the FP here.

Start of turn 31
Cloyster used Clamp!

Just some clamp pressure for the last couple of turns. Jorgen does the right thing and tries to stall it. However, he's only using slow pokemon, so I switch to bell to conserve PP whilst maintaining similar pressure. I'm not really trying to KO pokemon with this pressure, I'm just waiting for an oppoortunity to make an offensive switch.

Start of turn 37

Start of turn 40

Dre. sent out Alakazam!

The foe's Chansey used Thunderbolt!
Alakazam lost 63 HP! (20% of its health)

Not too sure why I did this. I could've tried to wake zam up, but zam will just lure snorlax or tauros, as we see next turn.

Start of turn 41
Dre. called Alakazam back!

Start of turn 42
Jorgen called Snorlax back!
Jorgen sent out Chansey!

Chansey used Thunder Wave!

Once he again he goes to chansey. He knows I don't have counter, so I'm guessing he just wanted to play it safe.

Start of turn 43
Chansey used Thunderbolt!
The foe's Chansey lost 11% of its health!

The foe's Chansey used Ice Beam!
Chansey lost 77 HP! (10% of its health)

Here I risk the freeze to see what he does. My chansey has been frozen many times doing this before, so much so that I dropped it for jynx at one point, but I guess I was feeling lucky. In my defence I did have a 90% chance of being 'lucky'.

"Fakes" stopped watching the battle.

Here I make a play and it backfires. I try force a cloyster-lax match-up with my sleeping zam, but he doesn't take the bait. This is probably because I switched immediately last time I sent sleeping zam in, so he predicted a switch.

I'm not sure if he paralysed my chansey by accident or not, but he probably decided to boom here seeing that he can't freeze my chansey anymore, and I wasn't pulling any fancy switches to rhydon to try absorb the explosion beforehand.

I decide to go to bell here because it pressures his entire team. Bell outspeeds his entire team now except tauros, but bell threatens tauros with paralysis.

I land the sleep and it's pretty much game over for him. A free razor leaf on chansey then a few more wraps on lapras would put lapras in leaf range even if it managed to wake up. Chansey wouldn't realistically be able to take out the rest of my team, which included an unused dragonite that could have wrap spammed without having to agility first.

So that's my warstory, hope you like it. If you have any constructive feedback I'm all ears. I don't want to hear how wrap is cheap or broken, I'm not interested.

Credit to Jorgen for letting me use this battle and being a solid opponent. He didn't make too many mistakes, and whilst he didn't get 'haxed' a couple of times when RNG could have got him out of jail it didn't go his way.

Good job man, I agree with some sprites and maybe some Bold in there so it isnt a giant wall of text, but content wise it was a good battle

Keep up the good work man, love to hear more

Ps. For sprites use [ IMG ]www.path.to.img[/ IMG ] but without the spaces in the tags.
