Rediamond vs. rewindman in a cave at Mossdeep City (ASM Promotional Match)

Status
Not open for further replies.
Maxim: So this is the place where it all began.

Nora: Indeed

I made my way down the treacherous cavern to a large clearing with a unimaginably deep well. The air was damp, so much so that it almost felt like it was constantly raining on you, dragging you down into the abyss. Years ago, there must have been something here, but now the place was devoid of life, almost as if there was some unnamed predator lurking in the shadows.

They say the incident started right here, a huge conflict between syndicates and a law enforcement that was just too spread thin. Strangely enough, the citizens of Mossdeep City told me no more of the incident. I suppose it must be a blot on their otherwise proud history, something they never wanted to remember, but had to to prevent another tragedy
from occurring.

In fact, I had only found this place because an expert in the history of the incident, Rediamond, or Red as was his nickname, told me about this place.

The Rules said:
6 vs 6 doubles (strongmon)
Arena: ???
A large cavern to the south of Mossdeep city. The middle is entirely water, which goes down to very, very deep levels. On the outside of the pool is a very thin rim of rock barely above the water that stretches around the entirety of the circular arena. The BP of surf is increased by 3 and the EC reduced by 3 as well. The EC of Rain Dance is lowered by five due to a mysterious magic around the place, but it can only be used with a Damp Rock. Additionally, all other weather is banned, even with it's respective item due to the magic in the room.

A little while after I got here, Rediamond showed up and we discussed what had happened here. A while after that, his opponent, rewindman, showed up ready for the brawl that was about to take place.

I had to wonder about Rediamond's purpose for coming here for battle, he had no Pokemon that knew surf, and rewindman most likely had plenty.

But enough about the background, you want to hear about the battle right?

Let's go. Remember, items are on, so be sure to equip them. :

Tomohawk@ Light Clay and Kingdra @ Dragon Scale:

Kingdra: Hammer them:
Surf - Dive (shuckle) - Surf.
If ninetales uses bide, set up a 20 hp sub on the second action.

Tomohawk:
Taunt Shuckle - Stealth Rock - Aura Sphere Shuckle.

If magic coat is used on the second action by ninteales, hit ninetales with an earthpower instead.

If ninteales tries to get fancy with a magic coat+ body Block combo, taunt shuckle, do this instead:
Aura sphere shuckle - stealthrock - taunt shuckle

I have no items of note and will not use them.

Alright, this is where we play with fire. And Turtles...

Sunshine: Will-o-Wisp Kingdra, Magic Coat, Disable (Surf) Kingdra
Shuckle: Bide. Won't do much, but it'll do more than the alternative.

Alright then, let's get started!

Round 1: The Night Approaches

And so the match began, the first battle this cave had seen since the incident.

Shield began the battle by biding his time until he could release his wrath. Meanwhile, Sunshine would have created a sunny day due to drought, but this place prevented even that from working. Undaunted, she launched some ghostly Will-o-Wisps at Ryuu, which connected due to her nature and Ryuu suffered a burn. Ryuu then summoned the vast waters of this arena and surfed on it, which caused massive damage to everyone except the shuckle. Chai decided to Taunt Shield to prevent any shenanigans.

Honestly, I wasn't sure how the battlers were able to fight so fiercely with so little land.

In any case, Ninetales began this action with a Magic Coat which reflected Tomohawk's Stealth Rock back at him, or at least it would have, but Tomohawk called Sunshine's bluff and used Earth Power on her instead. Shuckle continued to bide his time, even though everyone except Kingdra ignored him. Kingdra tried to use a Dive on the Shuckle, but it did absolutely nothing.

One thing i could never figure out, why the ASB League decided to let Shuckle be legal.

The last action began with Shield unleashing his wrath on Kingdra...all 7 Damage of it. Ryuu tried to launch a surf against the group again, but he went too close to one of Sunshine's nine tails and got the surf disabled. Tomohawk was marginally more successful with his aura sphere against Shield, but it still did miniscule damage.

As the cold, moist air settled around the arena, I couldn't help but feel that the abyss was compelling us to fight. It was probably my paranoia setting in but who knows.

Initiating Switch Phase

Because Gengar and Togekiss are better.

Gengar: Taunt Tomohawk~Psychic Tomohawk~Thunderbolt Tomohawk
This is where I take back my title as king of RP BS. Gengar's Dex entries all relate to him lurking in the shadows, and draining life and casting curses from there, or just causing general fear and mayhem. Therefore, isn't it logical that he could scare or taunt someone from the shadows?

If Taunt or Stealth Rock is used on the first action, switch to Shadow Sneak+Taunt combo.

Togekiss: Ah, your first battle post evolution where you get to HAX your enemy to death.
Air Slash~Extrasensory~Air Slash Tomohawk

Crush him beneath your flinch HAX.

Tomohawk:
Confuse Ray (Gengar) - Hurricane (Gengar) - Air Slash (Gengar)

Round 2: Blades of the Wind
This battle was getting interesting, both trainers, seemingly compelled by the water, were having a heated battle.

In any case, Rediamond decided to switch his team for his Gengar and Togekiss, called Cloak and Airplane respectively. Tomohawk defies his speed tier with his Prankster ability and launches a Confuse Ray on Gengar. Gengar shrugs this off and Taunts the Tomohawk by saying "Is that all you've got?" in a fake Russian accent. Weird. Togekiss simply uses an Air Slash on the Tomohawk which does massive damage and would've flinched it were it not for the prankster ability. Kingdra, fearing for his ally's precarious position, ensures that Togekiss won't be using any more Air Slashes to flinch Tomohawk by disabling it.

Gengar started the next round off by using a fearsome Psychic attack on Tomohawk, which did massive damage, but little else. Togekiss supports the psychic assault with an Extrasensory, which also did decent damage. Tomohawk retaliated to this by unleashing a massive Hurricane throughout the room and hitting Gengar hard. Kingdra then spewed some scalding water at Gengar.

At the third action, Gengar used a Thunderbolt on Tomohawk, dealing even more damage. Togekiss tried to support this with another air slash, but it failed due to the disable. Kingdra went back to scalding Gengar, but then Tomohawk let's Gengar have a dose of Togekiss's medicine with an Air Slash that ends up dispersing Gengar in two, it must have been a critical hit. Gengar reformed after the attack, after all it is a being of gas, but both him and Tomohawk suffered massive damage.

It lived here

Alright, switching back to Shuckle and Ninetales for now.

Shuckle: Mud Slap EVire~Toxic EVire~Mud Slap EVire
If Taunted A2, switch to Rock Slide EVire

Ninetales: Heat Wave~Fire Blast (Metagross)~Heat Wave
Subs:
If EVire taunts you or Metagross uses Stealth Rock, use Magic Coat.

Alright, I never got the new substitutions in a multi battle rules, but if I am allowed two subs max for the team I will remove my Shuckle's sub and just make it Rock Slide EVire permanently. Sorry about this, but I couldn't really understand the new mechanics that well.

Gotta kill that anoying shuckle...

Metagross: Meteor Mash Shuckle - Rock Slide - Meteor Mash Shuckle

E-vire: Substitute (20 HP) - Torment (Ninetales) - Rock Slide

Good grief, sorry for being late to referee this, college life is really busy.

I will definately get this done sometime today.

Round 3: A Shocking Round

As the battle progressed on, I almost felt like I could hear the whispers of legends here. I found it hard to see anything living here right now with the lack of a food chain.

In any case, Ninetales started off with a nice Heat Wave that tried to fry the competitors. Metagross responded by dealing a lot of damage to Shuckle with Meteor Mash. The strange powers of the move seemed to empower him and raise his attack. Electivire set up a substitute to protect himself from attacks. Finally, Shuckle Slapped mud into Metagross's face.

Upon asking those on the ASB.net, I found that I had looked at Shuckle's damage wrong, sigh.

The next action started with Ninetales launching a large fire blast at Metagross, which does good damage. Electivire didn't want that to happen again, so he tormented the Ninetales. Metagross then launched a Rock Slide at both opponents which flinches Shuckle.

Ninetales started this one off with another Heat Wave, which ticked Electivire off enough to launch another Rock Slide. Metagross landed another Meteor Mash on Shuckle, which Shuckle slapped more mud into Metagross's face.

Sigh, now I have to recount the first round.

I think some of the calcs may be a bit off with shuckle... for example rock slide with evire:
((8*.75)-4-1)*1.5= about 2 Damage.
Also looking back at the origional calcs in round 1, the dive vs the shuckle:
(8+3-3-4-1)*1.5= about 5 Damage.
Finally, even tomohawk's aurasphere damage should have been bigger...:
(9+3-4-1)=7 Damage

Correct me if I am wrong. Anyway: \

Metagross: Rock Slide - Meteor Mash (Shuckle) - Rock Slide
If Disable is used on meteor mash, use rock slide instead of meteor mash. IF Disable is used on rock slide, use meteor mash against shuckle instead of rick slide.

Electivire: Taunt shuckle - Rock Slide - Thunder Punch Ninetales

It's gone now.

Gotta keep on going.

Ninetales: Flamethrower Metagross~Pain Split Electrivire~Hiddeb Power Electrivire

Shuckle: Helping Hand~Rock Slide x2

Okay. I apologize that I haven't been reffing this match. I've been trying to get college work done and admittedly, have been slacking off. I'm also trying to get my rock gym team done by tomorrow (probably not going to happen movepool wise but I should have everything else done by then). Not to mention I still need to fix the first round's damage results.

My plan for now is to fix the first round today, then tomorrow referee the actual round.

If you need to, feel free to get a subref for all of this.

Okay then, I just got around to fixing the first round of actions.

Hopefully, I should get the fourth round done by tonight, though it may be tomorrow.

Round 4: It seemed like ages

After what seemed like ages, the battle had begun again.

Shuckle, fearing a taunt, had given ninetales a helping hand to make her flamethrower against metagross all the more powerful. Electivire then taunted Shuckle, robbing it of many of it's perks. Metagross ended the round with a shower of rocks.

I knew we were in a cave, but I couldn't help but wonder, where are all these rocks coming from?

Ninetales started the next round off by splitting the health of Electivire. He didn't like that at all, so he responded like any sensible person would, massive retaliation via a shower of rocks. Metagross ignored this and smashed Shuckle with the force of a Meteor. The mystical power of this attack also increased his attacking power. Shuckle, seeing no other option, opted to shower rocks on his opponents.

As the battle continued, the abyss seemed to let out a war cry, as if we had awoken some fearsome beast.

Ninetales drew on the powers of the cosmos to launch a hidden power imbued with the power of Ground at Electivire, who then responded with a punch imbued with the power of Electricity. Metagross let out another shower of rocks, and honestly I was tired of dodging them at this point. Ignoring my plea, Shuckle also made rocks rain down on the competitors.

I had to wonder, who's blood was going to feed the abyss first?

He was here too.

Ninetales, not much left to do.
Heat Wave followed by Disable Rock Slide (Electrivire) and Fire Blast (Electrivire)
If Metagross uses Bullet Punch, switch to Quick Attack+Quick Attack combination on Metagross, followed by a cool down and a Disable Rock Slide (Electrivire), cutting out the Disable if Bullet Punch is used action two.
If Metagross protects action one, use Fire Blast(Electrivire) and push the line back.
Shuckle: Rock Slide ~Rock Slide~Rock Slide
If Metagross has fainted, and Electrivire does not have a Substitute up or use Protect, use Mud Slap, but only once in the round.

Metagross: Bullet Punch+Meteor Mash Ninetales - Cool Down - Rock Slide

E-vire: Rock Slide - Reflect - Rock Slide
Shuckle should be the only target on action 3, so that RS shoulc be at full power
If ninetales is still alive on action 2, use thunder Punch against it instead.

Round 5: First Blood

Years ago, a tragedy struck the city of Mossdeep. The technical name for it was the Celestial Shower incident, but time and the horror of it all whittled it down to simply "the incident" in many of the minds of the people. Apparently, Rediamond was working on making a reenactment of the incident.

Anyways, enough of my rambling. Metagross started the fifth round by using a Meteorite Bullets combination, cleanly knocking out Ninetales. Electivire tried to follow this up with a Rock Slide, but completely missed Shuckle. Shuckle was apparently angry at this development, and launched his own shower of rocks in all his fury, or at least as much as a Shuckle can muster. These rocks turned out to be the straw that broke the camel's back, and Metagross fainted.

Electivire, fearing for his own consciousness, set up a Reflective screen to make Shuckle's next Rock Slide do very little.

After that, Electivire and Shuckle hurled Rock slides at each other but failed to knock each other out.

The first chapter of this battle came to a close, and I was left wondering, who would win this engagement.
