    - Will-o-Wisp

Switch into Gallade / Absol take a hit. Take a hit another time, fully restore your HP with Rest. In third turn use WoW and cripple one mon. Finally proceed to continuously resting you until they will die. Even considering Thunderbolt / Fire Blast from Absol cant 3HKOed you at all, and for this reason isnt a problem. Also you can PP stall out Fire Blast and Stone Edge thanks to Pressure, that makes much more easy to win for Spiritomb. Even if the opponent switch out when you are resting an the other mon isnt burn, you have a 50% of use Will-o-Wisp with Sleep Talk.

    - Will-O-Wisp

The general strategy is if Gallade is out Drifblim switches in, takes a hit, survives with Focus Sash and Unburden activates. *Drifblim Will-O-Wisps Gallade and Gallade KOs Drifblim. Gurdurr switches in. Takes Zen Heatbutts like a man and uses BU. Then Rest if at low HP. KOs Gallade with Ice Punch.

**Drifblim can also KO Gallade with Acrobatics. Absol switches in. Absol gets burnt by Will-O-Wisp. Absol KOs Drifblim with Night Slash. Gurdurr now finishes Absol off with Drain Punch.

If Absol is out, Gurdurr switches in and starts to bulk up. If Gallade switches in. Drifblim switches in and takes a hit. Survives with focus sash. Repeat either * or **.

I missed the last round because I was persistent to find one Pokemon that could counter both of the two Pokemon, and I failed. For this one, however, I think I got one.

    [pimg]372[/pimg]

    Shelgon @ Eviolite
    Trait: Rock Head
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpDef
    Impish Nature
    - Wish
    - Protect
    - Dragon Claw
    - Toxic

Basically the goal is to kill them both slowly and painfully by using Wish, Protect, Dragon Claw, and Shelgon's ludicrous Physical Defense. Toxic is filler.

If the opponent starts out with Gallade
Gallade, at best, can only 3HKO with Close Combat. This move only has 8 PP, and is therefore easily stalled out with a combination of Wish and Protect. (Wish has 16 PP and Close Combat has 8) after that, Shelgon will have, at worst, about 62% of its health left, assuming that Gallade does not switch out and uses Close Combat on the Protects. Zen Headbutt only does a small bit of damage, and Dragon Claw will 2HKO it after all the Life Orb recoil, possibly OHKO after the defense drops. Afterward, Absol cannot finish off Shelgon, because it will have at minimum 3% health left after a Zen Headbutt and Night Slash. Use Wish and Protect again, let Absol keep attacking, and you can either keep healing yourself or hit it with Dragon Claw. Shelgon wins.

If the opponent starts out with Absol
Absol is so weak that it can barely 4HKO Shelgon at best without a Critical hit, assuming it is using Night Slash. Because it resists both of Absol's special moves, that doesn't help Absol one bit. After some stuff, you could leave with nearly full health, using Wish and then attacking it, because Absol will only do 6% more than what Wish will do. After using Wish when it dies of recoil (considering how much it is attacking you, possibly mixed with a Dragon Claw, it will go down from recoil eventually, most likely after you healed yourself from Wish), use Protect against Gallade and heal yourself back all the way up. Afterward, repeat the Gallade process in the other scenario and kill it. Shelgon wins again.

It can potentially be a long process, but Shelgon will defeat both of them.

    Calcs
    252 Atk Life Orb Gallade (+Atk) Close Combat vs 252 HP/252 Def Eviolite Shelgon (+Def) : 39.52% - 46.71% (3 hits to KO)

    252 Atk Life Orb Absol (+Atk) Sucker Punch vs 252 HP/252 Def Eviolite Shelgon (+Def) : 26.95% - 31.74% (4 hits to KO)

Alrighty, never thought I'd use Dusknoir but hey it works.

    - Protect
    - Facade
    - Brick Break
    - Stone Edge

If Gallade is in, put in Dusknoir who set up TR and then does whatever. If Gallade stays hit it with a Shadow Punch to tickle it if Absol Switches in use Memento to get Throh in easily. If Absol is in put Throh directly in, his Toxic Orb activates and just start spamming Facade to OHKO Absol or Gallade if it switches. When Absol dies, Gallade comes in switch to Dusknoir and let him do his thing to let Throh come in under Trick Room to put down the hammer on Gallade's face. Neither of these individually are particularly outstanding (in fact they both kinda suck) but together they unite to take down 2 serious offensive threats.

What if Mandibuzz switches in on Gallade, eats a Stone Edge, and goes for Pluck as Gallade switches to Absol (if it Roosts, Toxics, or Swaggers, Gallade just kills it with Close Combat since you gave Mandibuzz just enough Speed to outspeed Gallade)?

    196Atk Flight Gem Mandibuzz (Neutral) Pluck vs 0HP/0Def Absol (Neutral): 49% - 58% (135 - 159 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO. 25% chance to 2HKO.

So now Absol is in at around half health. If you go for Pluck again, Absol just stays in and dies, allowing Gallade to switch in for free, take a hit, and KO.

196Atk Mandibuzz (Neutral) Pluck vs 4HP/0Def Gallade (Neutral): 60% - 71% (168 - 200 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO. Even after Life Orb recoil from two attacks, Gallade will have at least 9% HP remaining.

If you go for any other move, Gallade just switches back in. If you Toxic, Gallade only takes 6.25% the first turn, meaning it dies taking you out, but Absol is still alive and Mandibuzz is dead. Even if you Roost, you're at 77% even in a best case scenario, well within KO range from Stone Edge, and you can't stall with Roost due to Close Combat.

    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4SDef
    Relaxed Nature
    -Recover
    -Protect
    -Curse
    -Earthquake

Quagsire can come in on any move from the core and after Leftovers can never be 2HKOd.

If Gallade is in, simply come in on any move. Close Combat, which is Gallade's strongest move, only does 50% maximum. After Leftovers, it means that Quagsire will never be KOd. From there. It can spam Recover and Protect which have a combined 32 PP while CC has only 8PP. Quagsire can PP and Life Orb stall Gallade, afterwards start boosting with Curse while the remainder of Gallade's attacks do pitiful damage, and grab the win with Earthquake.
If Gallade switches out at any point, you have a healthy Quagsire who just Recovered vs Absol.

    252+ Atk Gallade Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 168-198 (42.63 - 50.25%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

    252+ Atk Gallade Zen Headbutt vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 112-133 (28.42 - 33.75%) -- possible 4HKO

If Absol is in, simply switch in Quagsire, use Recover, then Curse. From then on, Absol will fail to scratch you much allowing you to boost as much as you want and heal when needed, and KOing with Earthquake.

    252+ Atk Life Orb Absol Night Slash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 133-156 (33.75 - 39.59%) -- 21.9% chance to 3HKO

    - Sleep Talk

These two pokemon can handle Gallade and Absol pretty well overall, Tangrowth can come in on Gallade easily, only taking 49% max from even Close Combat while posing an immediate threat in return with both Sleep Powder and Power Whip, Power Whip 2HKOs Gallade without any defense drops and gets a guarenteed OHKO after Close Combat defense drops and Life Orb recoil. Both moves heavily deter Absol from switching in, by putting it to Sleep or doing a ton of damage to it, respectively. If the opponent gets Absol in via foddering Gallade, Scarf Emboar can switch in on any of its attacks due to its lack of Superpower while OHKOing it in return with Flare Blitz or Superpower, depending on if you can afford taking recoil or not. Emboar can also cleanly OHKO Gallade with Flare Blitz, meaning that even if Gallade gets say a critical hit on Tangrowth, Emboar can still win by KOing both Pokemon on its own.

    - Rock Slide
    - Poison Jab

These two do rather well against this core. Mesprit can come in on either CC or Zen Headbutt, and she's bulky enough so that she has only a small chance of getting 2HKO'd. From there, Mesprit can pummel Gallade with CM boosted Psyshocks. If Absol is in, she can use Calm Mind to gamble with Absol and have Sucker Punch fail, and if Absol tries to use Night Slash thinking she will use CM again, you can smash Absol with Ice Beam / Tbolt. Either that or you could send in Scolipede to make the predicted Sucker Punch fail, and since you will get down to Swarm level, while Scolipede kills Absol with Megahorn. From there, he can kill Gallade with a Swarm powered Megahorn. Or it could be the other way around, as Scolipede himself could kill Gallade while discouraging Absol from coming in. He also has decent enough physical bulk to take an Absol's Sucker Punch regardless.

You don't have any way of beating the core though. This just forces a standstill since they can switch back and forth at will and you have absolutely no way of damaging them short of struggle.

    Edit: Reserving Torkoal.

    Edit2: Here's Torkoal

    Torkoal@Leftovers
    252 HP/252 Def/4 Spdef
    Nature: Bold
    Ability: Shell Armor
    ~Iron Defense
    ~Rest

    ~Toxic

The strongest move the core has is Gallade's Stone Edge, which does 33.27-39.53% (Absol's Thunderbolt and Night Slash both max out at 32.27%). At +2 Defense, this is reduced to a paltry 20.35% max. This means that Torkoal can come in, take a Stone Edge (61.47% remaining min), Protect (67.72%), set up an Iron Defense (34.44%), Protect (40.69%), Rest, and stall forever. Protecting isn't really necessary if you don't feel like it I think. Normally someone could say this set is crit bait, but Shell Armor means it can't be crit. Toxic prevents Absol and Gallade from just switching around endlessly, though something like Stealth Rock or Will-O-Wisp would serve the same purpose. If they stay in, they just die to Life Orb recoil eventually.

Edit: Swamp-Rocket is completely right. I was testing something with Intimidate before this and forgot to reset the calculator. Should have realized something was up since I was running calcs with Alomomola before I noticed it had been used already and it took more damage than I thought Torkoal did.

So melvni makes a great point and highlights something annoying I've been seeing recently.

Basically, use all your moveslots. Seriously, there's no reason not to. Just stick on a STAB or something, you never know, since you only get one chance at this that extra move might save you. Alo has room for Toxic and Waterfall, while Hariyama could easily run any STAB, Sleep Talk, and... filler (I say Bulk Up because why not, but not really that important.)

I thought it was implied that Alomomola and Hariyama would know four moves. I showed that Gallade and Absol had no way of beating me and through excessive switching I could still get attacks off eventually, so any attacks would beat them. I made it more clear though. I only listed the the necessary moves because with just those one or two I could beat them.

    Medicham (M) @ Choice Scarf
    Trait: Pure Power

    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Giga Impact
    - Drain Punch
    - Trick
    - Hi Jump Kick

252 HP for taking hits. 252 Att+adamant to deal max damage. 4 def. scarf medi without investment outspeeds anyway. Last two moves are fillers.

    Bastiodon (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Sturdy
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
    Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
    - Protect
    - Toxic
    - Counter
    - Substitute

252 HP to increase tanking capabilities. 252 def Bold to tank all moves bar fighting moves. 4 sp def.

    Simple. Sweet. Foolproof.

The way the core works is simple. You just have to lead with medicham. That's all.

    if he sends Absol first:

-if he uses sucker punch, you still have 15% health left, you proceed to KO with drain Punch.
-he now sends gallade, and you switch to bastiodon. Sac Bastiodon.
-Switch medi in and KO with Giga Impact. GG

    Alternative Scenario:

-he sends Absol. you send Medi. switch to bastiodon.
-he switches to gallade since absol cant do anything to Bastiodon. Predicting this, you switch to Medi.
-Or dont switch at all. He uses Close Combat, 1 HP left, you use Counter. Next round of LO and gallade's dead. Bastiodon's dead too.
-He switches absol, you switch medicham. Giga Impact and you win. GG

    If he sends Gallade:

    - you use Giga Impact. Switching or not, one opponent dies.
-if Absol dies, gallade is sent in again. recharge turn, he does damage to you. no KO.
-next turn, you proceed to KO with giga Impact. GG.
    - he lets gallade die. Medi's recharging. his Absol hits with night slash and KO's with Sucker Punch.
-Send Bastiodon in, Toxic stall with Protect and Substitute. GG, once again.

@pkblizzard: your core can't switch into Absol at all because it is 2HKOd by a combination of Night Slash followed by Sucker Punch if you attack, or switching to Gallade if you trick. If you switch in Bastiodon on him, he can predict around you and go to Gallade as you come in, and threaten to KO either Bastiodon with Close Combat, or Zen Headbutt Medicham. After you send Medicham in to revenge Gallade, it will die to Giga Impact but Absol will come in for free and Night Slash + Sucker Punch you again. Thus your core doesn't work.

i guess i was a little vague in the last post.

since we're talking about 2 vs 2 scenario here, i'm always going to lead with medicham. if you've not noticed, medicam is scarfed, meaning it outspeeds both absol and gallade. since i'm leading with medi, there rises no question about switching to absol. and since med's faster, he will have to resort to sucker punch and subsequently die. or he will have to switch. so absol isnt able to use night slash+ sucker punch together courtesy of a fast medi. Trick is a move i'm never going to use. the moves are basically giga impact and drain punch.

if such a situation arises, which im sure, never will, i'm ready for it. prediction goes both ways. he thinks i will switch bastiodon, and i know he will think so, so i might keep medicham in; it is a risk for both the players.
If he brings gallade, CC is just a 2HKO, courtesy of Sturdy. since both bast and gall are coming in together, bast gets to survive a CC and hit back with Counter which is an OHKO. considering that Bast cannot touch gall, he might use a weak move to break its sturdy and then go for a CC. either ways i'm better of using toxic since it will wear gallade down quicker allowing me to finish both of them with drain punch, which is a 3hko on gallade, or simply use HJK. Zen heatbutt is 2 hko, so i can switch it in and go for hi-jump-kick and i win.

we are assuming that gallade has just KOd bast? which means gallade has taken enough damage to be KOd with HJK.if so then medi still has full health and it wins since it goes first against absol and neither night slash nor sucker punch will KO. i win again. i would not be using Giga Impact in such a situation.

thus is works and works beautifully. i dont have time now, so i will try explaining the situation against the opponent using battle logs or something, later....that is, if you don't agree with me. Yet.

Are you calculating that right? Because I'm getting that Stone Edge does a ton more damage. Enough so that Gallade can 2HKO Torkoal with Stone Edge (and Close Combat too)

    252 Atk Life Orb Gallade (+Atk) Stone Edge vs 252 HP/252 Def Torkoal (+Def) : 50.58% - 59.3% (2-3 hits to KO)

The calculation you showed was a -1 Gallade attacking Torkoal (252 -1 Atk Life Orb Gallade (+Atk) Stone Edge vs 252 HP/252 Def Torkoal (+Def) : 33.72% - 39.53% (3-4 hits to KO)) - be sure to double-check your caculations.

Ok, so absol is on the field, and you send in medicham. Absol goes for night slash, which does 75% max (for it to be a counter, we can assume max damage by opponent and min damage from you, otherwise, it cannot hypothetically 100% counter). If you attack and he sucker punches, you die, and the counter loses. If you trick and he night slashes again or uses any move but sucker punch, you lose again. They are both worse case scenarios, as they are assumed. Fire blast does 25% max to bastiodon, so you cannot toxic protect stall it well enough to keep you in sturdy and lose to gallade. Even if absol is tricked, night slash does 15% max, so you also cannot assume you can protect toxic stall it, as leftovers recovers 6.25%. This right heres shws why your core doesn't work. You cannot assume prediction skills of each player, as that should not matter, because in order for it to counter, prediction skills really shouldn't matter. Look at the example given in the introductory post for example.

What? I think just about all semi-competent players know medicham is almost always scarfed, so it only makes sense to go for night slash as it switches in and then sucker punch before you die. Don't know why you would assume this, when your assumption is 98% wrong (unless the player knows medicham isn't scarfed).
