Welcome to RMT's first RU Team Rating Tournament! In this tournament, we will provide each of you with a team to rate every round. You will then rate the given team and submit it to the Team Raters you are assigned. When the round is over, the participants who submitted the best rates will move on to the next round.

Important notes:
  • Signups will be first come first serve. We're probably looking at a 16-man tournament, maybe more depending on how many people sign up.
  • The rates in the final two rounds will count towards the Team Rater
  • The winner will be awarded voice status in the RMT room on PS if they have shown an interest in getting involved (If you are currently an active voice and win, you may be promoted to driver).
  • Each round will last one week. Failure to rate the team within the one week time period will result in disqualification unless you're able to give us a valid reason. Please only sign up if you can commit to rating one team every week for the next month.
  • If you are eliminated and would like some feedback on your rate and how you can improve going forward, feel free to ask us.
Participants please PM your rate to Arifeen. You have until 23:59 EST on Saturday, 18th June to submit your rate.

Good luck everyone!

Here's the team for Round 3. Huge thanks to FlamingVictini for making it and writing up descriptions for it.

Scyther @ Eviolite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 4 Atk / 104 Def / 96 SpD / 56 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Aerial Ace
- U-turn
- Roost
- Knock Off

With the recent ban of ttrum and steelixite, scyther got a lot better, so I wanted to try it out. The set takes <50 from +1 lo hp ice from viriz and outspeeds timid venusaur. Its meant to be a bulky attacker that can help grab momentum for the team.

Rhyperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Atk / 148 SpD / 96 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Ice Punch

I knew I wanted an electric resist, and I felt that if I didn't want to use flygon, my choices were rhyperior or regular steelix. I decided to go with rhyperior since it seemed pretty neat, and is better to actually pressure flying types directly, which lix can't do well even with rock coverage due to the decreased attack compared to mlix.

Blastoise @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 176 Def / 84 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Toxic
- Refresh
- Rapid Spin

I needed a spinner, and blastoise is perfect to remove those rocks that are often set-up by mons that can't beat it. Its also great as a scald switch-in / general status absorber with refresh and toxic.

Virizion @ Lum Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Leaf Blade
- Zen Headbutt
- Swords Dance

I wanted a fast and strong wincon with good type synergy, and SD Viriz fit the bill. I'm using zen so that the team can handle venusaur and weezing more reliably.

Magneton @ Choice Specs
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def / 30 SpA
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Water]

Magneton also gets better with the drops as it no longer has to run magnet rise, and forms a strong core with scyther that can get momentum and also break. I'm using HP Water because seismitoad isn't very relevant and camerupt is a big threat, while flash cannon does a lot to gon anyway.

Drapion @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab
- Aqua Tail
- Pursuit

I wanted a pursuit trapper that could help out viriz and also blastoise if I was up against a team with a ghost like rotom or hoopa. Drapion seemed to fit the best, although I really hate using scarf drapion, I feel it may be necessary on this team to have more speed (Stone Edge Virizion would run through me, for example)

The best rate from last round was all falls down! Here's his rate:
Pretty cool team; it looks like a semi stall with Malamar which is great as I love Malamar teams and I think it fits really well on this team. I don't quite agree with the Cofagrigus though; I think the slot could be used more efficiently by other Pokemon.

Your team seems to revolve around setting up hazards and wearing down the opposing team for your win condition Malamar to sweep. This is great but it is hindered by the fact that one of your main hazard setters in Garbodor baits in the most common Defog user in the tier in Flygon, which happens to also outspeed (or speed tie with) your entire team and Defog comfortably on most of it. In addition, it threatens out Malamar with U-turn and Steelix with a potential Life Orb Earth Power, so it has way too many opportunities to Defog. For this reason I think that Cofagrigus would be better replaced by something that can outspeed and revenge kill Flygon along with other potential wallbreakers like Absol and Manectric. Cofagrigus also doesn't really help with these problems; not only is it weak to the aforementioned wallbreakers and is slow, but it makes your team quite passive and over-reliant on hazards. With that being said, my changes are just EV changes and a Pokemon replacement for Cofagrigus.

LO + CM Virizion is a really interesting option on this team over Cofagrigus. It gives you another win condition that absolutely loves all the hazard support you have along with being something that's quite fast and can outspeed most of the metagame, being able to revenge kill all of the threats I mentioned. It also gives you a great Pokemon against other hazard stacking balance teams and all of its weaknesses are covered by Flygon, Garbodor, and Alomomola. Also patches up your Jellicent weakness as a bonus.
  • I don't see anything that Garbodor outspeeds with those EVs, if you want to outspeed Blastoise which is the only thing that comes close, you only need 20 Speed. I don't recommend that however since Garbodor needs all the bulk it can get, so a 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD spread seems better, with the Def letting you switch into LO Hitmonlee, and the extra SpD letting you switch into Leaf Storm from Venusaur and Tangrowth better, especially important because your set doesn't have Black Sludge. In addition, since Cofagrigus is now gone, you can change Pain Split to Toxic Spikes if you still want to keep Toxic Spikes. Alomomola's Wish support is usually good enough for Garbodor.
  • Aside from Malamar (and now Virizion), your team is really annoyed by Blastoise, since it can burn most of it and win 1v1 with Refresh. This means that being able to switch in Malamar on Blastoise is important since its your best way of dealing with it. Because of this, Malamar with a speed creep of 44 Speed to outspeed Blastoise seems really useful here. With it, you can play with Malamar much more recklessly and freely and it gives you more opportunities to switch in; for example, since you outspeed, you can switch in a 50% Malamar into Blastoise freely and Rest up in front of it without fear of fainting from 2 Scald.
  • This is more of a nitpick, but moving 16 EVs from SpD into Atk on Mega Steelix seems more efficient, since it very barely changes your special bulk but lets you OHKO Tyrantrum with EQ. (Tyrantrum is still a threat to this team, non-scarf variants especially, since you're not Bold Alomomola)
A bunch of nitpicky stuff I know, it's mostly because the team is built pretty well ^^

Virizion @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Ice

252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD on Garbodor; optional Toxic Spikes>Pain Split
44 Speed on Malamar
Move 16 SpD on Steelix on Atk, making it 252 HP / 96 Atk / 64 SpD / 100 Spe

The format is stellar, as everything looks very clear, especially with the images he put in. Furthermore, the rate had a really good structure, describing the threats at first and then focusing on changes in bullet points, which makes the rate very organised and easy to understand. Changing Cofagrigus to Virizion was a unique change, as nobody else has thought to do so. The team had issues with Flygon and bulky Water-types, so Virizion was a great option. He also mitigated the loss of Toxic Spikes, and suggested them on Garbodor, saying that Pain Split isn't much needed, due to Alomomola having Wish support.

The rate was not perfect however, as Medicham was a bigger threat to the team after Cofagrigus being removed. A smart way to fix the issue would have been making Alomomola Bold Nature. The team was also weak to Exploud, so changing Mega Steelix to Registeel would also have been a smart move.

Nevertheless, congrats to all falls down for winning the best rate of Round 2!
