Ubers Sableye

QC: 3/3 [Nayrz,Minority,Gunner Rohan]
GP: 1/1 [Fireflame479]

Memento mori

[OVERVIEW]

* Being the only viable Magic Bounce user in the Ubers metagame, Mega Sableye features great role compression with both hazard control and utility.
* Mega Sableye's solid 50 / 125 / 115 bulk, 3 immunities, and only one weakness in Fairy make it a good defensive Pokemon.
* Mega Sableye can take on Psychic spam due to its immunity to it and thus stops Deoxys-A and Mewtwo with investment in Special Defense, but not Tapu Lele.
* Mega Sableye has a solid movepool in Will-O-Wisp, Fake Out, Protect, Toxic, and Knock Off that cannot get shut down by Taunt.
* It effectively shuts down most entry hazard setters like Deoxys-S without Skill Swap and other defensive Spikers and Stealth Rock setters like Ferrothorn and Skarmory.
* Mega Sableye is a staple on stall teams and is for balance teams due to the defensive synergy Mega Sableye provides with Ho-Oh, Lugia, Ferrothorn and defensive Arceus formes.
* However, Mega Sableye's weakness to Fairy hurts it a lot considering how common Xerneas is in the tier.
* Burn damage wears opponents down slowly, and RestTalk is much more common with Pokemon such as Xerneas and Zygarde.
* Mega Sableye is overpowered by a lot of offensively strong Pokemon due to the hard-hitting nature of Ubers or simply setup bait; Primal Groudon can do both even on a defensive set.
* Lastly, Mega Sableye is fairly one-dimensional in its viable sets.

[SET]
name: Hazard Control
move 1: Fake Out / Protect
move 2: Foul Play
move 3: Will-O-Wisp
move 4: Recover
item: Sablenite
ability: Prankster
nature: Impish
evs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Fake Out grants Mega Sableye a safe Mega Evolution and small chip damage, enabling entry hazard and status control on turn one. This can potentially break a Focus Sash on Deoxys-A and Deoxys-S as well.
* Foul Play deals damage to foes with a high Attack stat and those who cannot be burned.
* Will-O-Wisp burns foes, halving their Attack and wearing them down.
* Recover is Mega Sableye's option for reliable recovery, keeping it healthy through hazard damage, chip damage, and big hits.
* Protect also grants Mega Sableye a safe Mega Evolution, giving it the ability to scout the opponent and stall turns. In addition, this allows for a safe Mega Evolution on Ghost-types such as Lunala and Giratina.
* Toxic can be chosen over Will-O-Wisp and is considered a viable alternative, dealing more damage over time and hitting the likes of Primal Groudon.

Set Details
========

* Full investment in HP and Defense with an Impish nature makes up for Mega Sableye's below-average health stat while maximizing its physical bulk. This allows Sableye to reliably check threatening physical attackers like Extreme Killer Arceus, Deoxys-A, Mega Kangaskhan, and Solgaleo.
* Prankster is its only useful pre-Mega ability, though Sableye doesn't gain priority on the initial turn it Mega Evolves.
* Sablenite is needed for Sableye's Mega Evolution, greatly boosting its defensive capabilities and utility.

Usage Tips
========

* Sableye should Mega Evolve early on to block any form of entry hazards and pressure the opponent into not setting up any.
* When using Fake Out, keep in mind that Sableye has no safe Mega Evolution should the opponent have and lead with a Ghost type.
* Sableye can reliably check every hazard setter in the Ubers metagame except for Primal Groudon, Dialga, and Skill Swap Deoxys-S. Switching in on any other Pokemon than these is usually safe to prevent hazards.
* Keeping Sableye healthy at all times should be a priority and thus use Recover frequently.
* Preventing and bouncing back hazards and status is Mega Sableye's main niche and can only be guaranteed under the above circumstances.
* Do not stay in the face of powerful wallbreakers that don't care about Will-O-Wisp or Foul Play. These include Fire types like Groudon and Ho-Oh and Dragon types like Refresh + Facade Mega Salamence, Mixed and Choice Band Rayquaza, and Z-Heal Block Palkia.
* Similarly, this set is not intended to work well versus specially offensive threats outside of Mega Sableye's immunities, like Xerneas, which can set up for free.
* Be careful when dealing with potential mixed offensive threats like Rayquaza, Groudon, and Genesect. Scout their moveset through Protect or switches and avoid losing 50% HP.

Team Options
========

* Mega Sableye is great for entry hazard and status control for balanced and defensive teams. These teams try to whittle down the opponent or wait for an opportunity to sweep. They usually switch a lot due to the defensive synergie they are built upon, so hazards hurt them much more compared to hyper offense. In addition Mega Sableye prevents Taunt, which would usually shut down stall completely, and it is immune to Psychic-type attacks from Tapu Lele, Deoxys-A, and Mewtwo which could otherwise break a defensive team.
* Solgaleo, Magearna, and Toxapex all cover Mega Sableye's weakness versus Fairy-types and special attackers. Magearna can use Heart Swap and Pain Split to turn the tables on setup sweepers, while Toxapex can use Haze against stat changes and pressure the opponent with Toxic Spikes while Regenerator and Recover keep it healthy. Solgaleo has access to Morning Sun, Toxic, and Sunsteel Strike, which heavily dents Fairy-types.
* Ho-Oh loves to not deal with Stealth Rock, which would otherwise chunk half of its HP, and it takes on special attackers, Fire-, and Fairy-types alike which trouble Mega Sableye such as the common Xerneas.
* Flying-types in general profit from not getting chunked by Stealth Rock and being free to switch around.
* Lugia and Lunala, due to their Multiscale and Shadow Shield abilities, respecitvely, appreciate coming in at full health and not getting poisoned and burned, while they deal with the likes of Primal Groudon and offensive threats.
* Defog or Rapid Spin support grants almost total hazard control if used with Mega Sableye. Giratina-Origin and Arceus-Water both have access to Defog and can take on the likes of Primal Groudon and other physical attackers as well.
* Zygarde-C checks Primal Groudon and takes on almost every physical attacker in the tier for Mega Sableye.

[Strategy Comments]
Other Options
============

* A specially defensive set with 252 Special Defense EVs, a Calm Nature, and Toxic over Will-O-Wisp allows Sableye to take on offensive Psychic-types in Deoxys-A, Choice Scarf Lunala, and Mewtwo, while still being able to soft-check Extreme Killer Arceus for balance and stall teams.
* Knock Off does chip damage and removes the foe's item, but Foul Play is usually superior because it does more damage and lets Mega Sableye it deal with physical setup sweepers. In addition, neither Mega Stones, Red and Blue Orb, or Z-Crystals can be Knocked Off.

Checks and Counters
==================

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types destroy Mega Sableye by virtue of their typing. Xerneas and Arceus Fairy can OHKO or set up against Mega Sableye for free. Magearna is a common check to Dark-types and special setup sweepers and can just OHKO Mega Sableye with Fleur Cannon. Unaware Clefable is a viable choice versus setup sweepers in Ubers, that can remove burn and Toxic with Heal Bell and outspeed and 2HKO Mega Sableye. Mega Sableye has to be careful around Tapu Lele, since it has a good shot at OHKOing with Moonblast. Tapu Koko, while uncommon, can at least 2HKO Sableye as well.

**Primal Groudon**: Groudon chunks Mega Sableye with Precipice Blades or sun-boosted Lava Plumes, with a 30% burn chance, overpowering it and setting up Stealth Rock in the process. Offensive sets are even harder to deal with. Primal Groudon can run a mixed or special set and catch Mega Sableye by surprise.

**Ho-Oh**: Ho-Oh can easily break through Mega Sableye with its combination of strong attacks in Brave Bird and Sacred Fire, a 50% chance to burn, and the ability to outstall it through Regenerator, Recover, and even Substitute.

**Dark-types**: Specially offensive Dark-types give Mega Sableye a hard time, resisting both of its STAB moves while usually not caring about chip damage or burn. Darkrai can use Nasty Plot and dent it heavily with Dark Pulse, while Yveltal can do the same without any setup on an offensive set.

**Calm Mind Arceus formes**: Calm Mind Arceus formes such as Arceus-Dark and Arceus-Fairy pose quite the problem for Mega Sableye, as they are free to set up on or simply deal a lot of damage to it. Neither Foul Play nor burn can stop them; Sableye simply has no counterplay against Arceus-Dark and Arceus-Fairy.

**Zygarde-C**: Zygarde-C walls Mega Sableye and can just use Thousand Arrows, shuffle its team around with Dragon Tail, set up with Coil or Dragon Dance, and get rid of potential burns through the common RestTalk.

**Mega Salamence and Rayquaza**: Mega Salamence's Aerilate lets it break through Mega Sableye while not caring about burns or Foul Play due to Refresh and Facade. Rayquaza 2HKOes Mega Sableye with its STAB moves, and a mixed set does not care about burns either.

**Special Attackers**: Special attackers can just break past Mega Sableye due to their incredible power and being unthreatened by Mega Sableye. Dialga can just overpower it with its excellent STAB coverage in Flash Cannon and Draco Meteor to set up its own Stealth Rock. Primal Kyogre can OHKO Mega Sableye with Origin Pulse or 2HKO it with Scald, Rest makes status and chip obsolete, and Calm Mind gets gives it a free setup opportunity. Z-Heal Block Palkia can just set up on and OHKO Mega Sableye with +2 Spacial Rend or Hydro Pump.

**Dedicated Anti-Leads**: Excadrill can effectively circumvent Mega Sableye due to Mold Breaker, thus setting up Stealth Rock and spreading Toxic. Deoxys-S with Skill Swap can just gain Magic Bounce and proceed to set up hazards of its own.

Wrote down everything that came to mind in a few days of using, winning and losing and fishing out typos. Criticism and Ideas appreciated, after it should be good to go for the QC

Sorry for the wait. One thing I notice across the skeleton is the usage of "MEye". Change all this to "Mega Sableye" and any other shortened terms if you want to save yourself (and the GP team) some work.

I'd probably deslash Knock Off and put it in OO - Foul Play is just a necessity vs SD Arceus and catching out stuff like Facade Salamence in a pinch.

The first point in Usage Tips is better fitted to Team Options (with appropriate elaboration). Speaking of Usage Tips, note what "powerful breakers" Sableye should be on the lookout for.

The first point of Other Options should be removed, there's no way that set is viable vs any competent team and its a wasted Sableye.

C&C formatting is wack. Fix up the spacing and the terms - "Pogre" isn't a thing outside of casual chat, which skeletons/analyses don't go for, as an example. Dark-types and Arceus should be seperated and elaborated on.

Fix this up and I'll see where we are.

Take as much time as you need :3

Read through all your points and implemented them in the analysis as well as rearranging some stuff. Hope it's better now.

Note Salamence before Rayquaza in Usage Tips. I wouldn't mention Flyinium Z as a set to watch for, as such an item is rare and Rayquaza 2HKOs with Dragon Ascent anyway.

C&C shouldn't specify a specific move in its headers, mention the Pokemon and then elaborate on what moves/sets are the threats in the descriptions for them.

Fix for QC 1/3

* Great 50/125/115 Bulk, 3 immunities and only one weakness in Fairy make it a solid defensive Pokemon that can take on Psychic spam as well
the info about psychic spam should probably either be removed or placed in a seperate point, since it seems like you're trying to force it onto the end of a seperate point.

remove Taunt from OO imo, setup sweepers outspeed you anyway and you'd rather burn than taunt them. Sucker Punch probably deserves a mention here though, as it can net surprise kills in certain situations.
It's probably also worth including in Usage Tips situations where having Prankster could be useful, such as against SD Arceus formes.

I feel as if C&C could be compressed; not all Dark-types threaten Sableye, such as Tyranitar, whose support set is walled by it, you could just have a section for special attackers with Yveltal, Darkrai, Palkia, and Dialga.

I re-wrote the Psychic part as an additional point and named the two most common psychic spammers (DeoA/Mewtwo)

The Dark C&C now specifically names "special offensive ones" which are problematic for Mega Sableye

Additionally I elaborated Knock Off more under OO

Great 50/125/115 Bulk
A minor point, but the natural bulk of this mon isn't very good. Language, especially in the intro, is important and I think a word like "solid" is more accurate here.

In set details mention the reason why Sableye uses max Def and not max SpD. List out the big physical threats this allows Mega Sab to check. In usage tips mention the importance of scouting for special attacks from potential mixed attackers. Team options needs more work put into it. Specifically, I want to see parters that cover this mon's fairy weak, SpA attacker weak, and coverage of physical threats that are strong enough to muscle past anyway.

The "Fire-types" section in C&C is a misnomer. P Don and Ho-Oh don't check Mega Sab because they're Fire-types, they can check it because they can just blast through. It would be more appropriate to just give them their own section. P Don doesn't even need a Fire move: pretty much any offensive set gets through Mega Sab. For "Fairy-types" and "Dark-types" make sure you list out all of the relevant Pokemon of these types.

**Arceus**: Arceus poses quite the problem for Mega Sableye. Physical sets like Extreme Killer or Arceus Ghost can be taken care of with Will-O-Wisp or hit very hard with Foul Play, but Special Sets are unbeatable. Arceus Dark and Fairy can set up for free with Calm Mind and/or hit hard with their respective STABs.
Most of this section is wrong for multiple reasons. Just make the section "Calm Mind Arceus" and elaborate.

Fix these things and I'll stamp later.

Implemented the improvements proposed by Minority and made some changes regarding Moves, Usage and Team Options as well. Fixed some typos.

This allows Sableye to fare ok versus physical offensive Pokemon like Arceus and Ubers prime Stealth Rock setter in Primal Groudon.
Except this isn't true, and thus is a poor explanation. Blades 2HKOs coming from any P Don set (OHKO when boosted), and special RP just OHKOs. Z Arc Ground and Z Arc Ghost OHKO Mega Sab as well. Cite better Pokemon as to why Mega Sab runs phys and not special.

There are still relevant Fairy-types missing from C&C that check Mega Sab.

Alright re-wrote the part under Set Details, hope it's better now. Added new mons to C&C Fairys. Added a new point to Usage Tips.

Remove Keys from the Fairy-types section and put Clefable instead. Keys doesn't like being burned and can't set spikes against Magic Bounce. Clef can take off Tox (wastes Heal Bells tho) and can smack Mega Sab with Moonblast. Also remove Tapu Fini, that Pokemon was rejected from having an analysis.

QC: 2/3

no stupid names on the sets

Protect I find much less useful? It was sorta ok with CB Ho-oh running around in ORAS (but even then it was pretty bad). I'd deslash it.

Personally I find that it needs some sdef evs as well, but I have to get back to this before I can qc it.

Changed the Set name to someting more direct.

Protect. If it's gonna be deslashed it at least deserves to be mentioned in OO. Protect cannot be stopped by Ghosts like Fake Out does and isn't dependent on first turn usage, thus better for scouting. I wouldn't call it bad, just an inferior option since opposing mons could set up on a predicted Protect; it's more dependent on the situation if anything in my opinion.

[OVERVIEW]

Can take on Psychic spam due it's Immunity and thus stops Deoxys-A and Mewtwo, but not Tapu Lele
- Does not do so, as it's 2HKO'd by Ice Beam from both Deo and Mewtwo without any SpD investment. Please edit to incorporate this.

Effectively shutting down most entry Hazard setters like Deoxys-S or other defensive Spiker/Stealth Rocker like Ferrothorn and Skarmory
- Mention Deoxys-S without Skill Swap

* The nerf to burn damage wears opponents down slower; in addition, RestTalk is much more common - More common on what?

* Overpowered by a lot of offensively strong mons due to the hard-hitting nature of Ubers or simply setup bait - Add Primal-Groudon as an example

[SET COMMENTS]

* Protect is similar to Fake Out, granting a safe Mega while trading chip damage for the ability to scout the opponent and stalling turns.
- Mention how protect allows it to safely Mega Evolve on Lunala.

Usage Tips
========

* Spamming Will-O-Wisp in the presence of Fire-types and a nerf in passive damage is not recommended, especially versus targets that are likely to use SleepTalk or don't care about a halved attack stat.
* Do not stay in the face of powerful breakers that don't care about WoW or Foul Play. These include Fire types like Groudon or Ho-Oh [which can easily burn Sableye] and Dragon types like Mega Salamence [Refresh/Facade], Rayquaza [Mixed/Choice Band] and Palkia [Z-Heal Block]. The same goes for special sweepers which can setup for free [Arceus/Xerneas].

These two points are the same, remove the former.

[Strategy Comments]
Other Options

- Add Specially Defensive Sableye with Toxic as an alternative, which can check Mewtwo, Deoxys-A, Scarf Lunala, Tapu Lele teams, and can still soft-check Ekiller but provide a counter measure for offensive psychics on stall teams.

Checks and Counters
==================

- Excadrill anti-leads Sableye and can safely get rocks up and toxic something as well. Mention this at the end.

**Palkia**: The introduction of Z-Moves made Palkia an amazing while decently fast Wallbreaker. It can just proceed to set up with Z-Heal Block and OHKO Mega Sableye with +2 Spacial Rend or Hydro Pump.
**Dialga**: Dialga can overpower Mega Sableye with Flash Canon and Draco, two excellent neutral STABs, then proceed to set up its own Stealth Rocks.
**Primal Kyogre**: Rain-boosted Origin Pulse and Scald straight up OHKO or 2HKO Mega Sableye [the latter having a 30% burn chance] while Rest makes Burn and chip damage obsolete and the Calm Mind Set gets a free setup opportunity.

- I feel like these three can be curtailed and converted into one paragraph named "special attackers", there're not really worth mentioning individually since then you'd also have to add Reshiram etc even due to their meme status. I'd just say give Primal Kyogre and Dialga a special emphasis, mention Dialga's SR anti-lead, and give a small mention to Palk and you should have your new condensed paragraph.

Implement these and let me know

Z-Heal Block Palkia made Palkia an amazing while decently fast Wallbreaker this Generation - it (doesn't matter) can just set up on and OHKO Mega Sableye with +2 Spacial Rend or Hydro Pump.

**Dedicated Anti-Leads**: (moved this paragraph appropriately) Excadrill can effectively circumvent Mega Sableye due to Mold Breaker, thus setting up Stealth Rocks Rock and spreading Toxic. Deoxys-S with Skill Swap can just gain Magic Bounce and proceed to set up hazards of its own.

Next time, please use the Spelling and Grammar Standards when proofreading your analyses. There were many errors that could have been avoided had you proofread this. I'm sure you can figure those out on your own. Work on your sentence structure as well; these analyses are supposed to be written in full sentences.

Overview should be rearranged a bit. Consider the first bullet:

* Being the only viable Magic Bounce user in the Ubers Metagame due to the absence of Mega Diancie, Mega Sableye fills a niche with no competition

You don't actually explain what the niche is. You don't put Sab on your team because it has Magic Bounce, you put Sab on your team because of what Magic Bounce provides. The idea is actually present:

* Providing Hazard Control with Magic Bounce and Utility through a solid movepool in Will-O-Wisp, Fake Out, Protect, Toxic and Knock Off that cannot get shut down by Taunt let Mega Sableye have great role compression

Put some combination of the underlined as the first bullet point so readers quickly get an idea of what Sab does, and then tie in the rest of Sab's traits to this.

Count this as an addition to the GP check.
