Overview
########

Samurott has a great niche in the metagame because of its abilities to be a mixed attacker. Samurott has good set up moves such as Swords Dance, and it has decent bulk. Its coverage attacks aren't the best but they aren't decent as well. However, Samurott has strong priority moves such as Aqua Jet and an unpredictable moveset. Samurott also faces competition as an All-Out attacker from Clawitzer, while having its perks over Feraligatr when running a Swords Dance set.

All-Out Attacker
########
name: All-Out Attacker
move 1: Hydro Pump
move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Grass Knot
move 4: Megahorn / Knock Off / Aqua Jet
ability: Torrent
item: Life Orb
evs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Rash

Moves
========

Samurott has a great STAB move in Hydro Pump which can deal a lot of damage. Samurott has great coverage moves such as Ice Beam and Grass Knot that deal with Flying- and Water-Type Pokemon, respectively. Megahorn furthers Samurott's coverage while allowing Samurott to deal a fair bit of damage to the likes of Mega Abomasnow, Assault Vest Slowking, and Reuniclus. Knock Off, can be used to remove the opponents item upon switch in. Lastly, Aqua Jet is a good STAB priority move that can come in handy when dealing with faster attackers.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack is used to hit as hard as possible. Maximum Speed is to outspeed as much as possible, and a speed boosting nature doesn't outspeed anything relevant. A Rash nature is used to increase the power of Samurott's Special Attack while not decreasing the damage output of its physical move of choice. Life Orb gives a significant boost in power.

Usage Tips
========

Samurott is a frail Pokemon, and it can't take too many hits. Note how much damage Life Orb does, instead of spamming attacks. Also, beware of faster threats such as Virizion who can easily OHKO Samurott. Utilize Samurotts appropriate coverage moves to hit Pokemon such as Slowking on the switch with Megahorn or Amoonguss with Ice Beam. Finally switch out against walls such as Alomomola when Samurott does little to no damage.

Team Options
========

Pokemon who can take care of walls are greatly appreciated. Virizion is gets a special mention as it can easily set up and handle walls such as Alomomola. Virizion also checks faster Electric- and Grass-Types that can Knock Out Samurott. Since Samurott doesn't have any set up moves on this set and the damage Samurott does isn't always enough to guarantee a KO, hazard setters such as Rhyperior and Registeel are very appreciated. Grass-types are useful as they do a good job at checking Electric- and Grass-types that threaten Samurott.

Swords Dance
########
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Waterfall
move 3: Aqua Jet
move 4: Megahorn
ability: Torrent
item: Lum Berry / Mystic Water
evs: 132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Spe
nature: Adamant

Moves
========

Swords Dance boosts Samurott's Attack to massive levels, allowing it to punch large holes in the opposing team. Waterfall is a powerful Water-type STAB move, and hits very hard after a boost with a helpful chance to flinch the opponent. Aqua Jet serves as a form of priority to hit faster attackers such as Jolteon and Moltres. Megahorn provides great coverage, hitting bulky Water-, Grass-, and Psychic-types such as Slowking, Tangrowth, and Cresselia. Knock Off can be used to remove opponents items such as Doublade's Eviolite, while also retaining coverage on bulky Psychic-types such as Slowking and Cresselia. A Swords Dance boosted Knock Off also has the merit of hitting the aforementioned Doublade much harder than Waterfall.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack investment and an Adamant nature is to hit as hard as possible. 124 Speed EVs are used to outspeed uninvested Gligar with the remaining EVs into HP. Lum Berry is helpful to avoid a status condition while setting up from the likes of Amoonguss and Tangrowth. Alternately, Mystic Water can be used for a significant boost in Samurott's Water-type STAB moves.

Usage Tips
========

Set up a Swords Dance when Samurott gets a free turn from threatening out foes such as Rhyperior or on a weak resisted attack. It is important that Samurott's checks and counters are weakened before setting up, as they will be able to stop Samurott in its tracks. Even with a Lum Berry, Samurott should be kept away from status moves as much as possible.

Team Options
========

Powerful wallbreakers such as Exploud, Moltres, and Hitmonlee make for good teammates to weaken or KO Samurott's checks and counters before it attempts a sweep. Stealth Rock support from the likes of Rhyperior and Registeel is helpful to achieve feats such as an OHKO on Moltres with Aqua Jet after a Swords Dance. Pokemon that can give Samurott free turns such as Whimsicott with Encore can help its setup. Fire-types such as Emboar and Delphox to absorb Will-O-Wisp are also helpful.

Other Options
########

Encore can be used to lock a defensive Pokemon into an unfavorable move to give Samurott or its teammates free turns. Taunt can be used to prevent healing, entry hazards, and status moves. Superpower can smack Registeel and Cobalion, but does not have much use otherwise. Toxic is an option to cripple defensive Pokemon such as Alomomola on the switch. Scald can be used with a more defensively inclined set, but Slowking and Alomomola are generally better Pokemon for that role.

Checks & Counters
########

**Electric-types**: Jolteon and Heliolisk can threaten out Samurott with their respective STAB moves, and Heliolisk is immune to Samurott's STAB moves thanks to Dry Skin.

**Faster Pokemon**: Faster threats such as Virizion can easily tank any one attack from Samurott and KO back with a Leaf Blade.

**Status**: If Samurott is not carrying a Lum Berry, all forms of status will greatly cripple it. Paralysis cripples its Speed, Poison puts a timer on its survivability, and Burn will half its Attack.

**Defensive Pokemon**: Walls such as Alomomola and Registeel can generally take most of Samurotts attacks and cripple it with a status move.

I'm still in the notion that Knock Off should not be slashed on the Swords Dance set. It only really hits Doublade, but Doublade cannot respond to a healthy Mystic Water Samurott anyway, as it is 2HKOed nearly 100% of the time from Spikes damage alone.
+2 252+ Atk Mystic Water Samurott Waterfall vs. 212 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Doublade: 135-159 (43.26 - 50.96%) -- 3.13% chance to 2HKO, 98.44% chance to 2HKO after Spikes
I mean being able to hit Doublade harder is nice and all, but Megahorn's neutral coverage is too good for Samurott to pass up, lest it be halted by things like Mega Abomasnow, Whimsicott, Virizion / Rotom-C / Shiftry switch-ins, and even Sharpedo. It is also much more consistent than Knock Off in breaking through Water resists, since the latter's weakening effect after removing the opponent's item means it can miss out on 2HKOes; examples of 2HKOes Megahorn gets that Knock Off may / will not include Amoonguss, Druddigon, Gastrodon. Megahorn's power also allows Rott to OHKO things like Bold CM Reuniclus + Slowking and Clawitzer after Swords Dance, and have much less trouble against Cresselia.

It just seems like there is very little instance to justify using Knock Off over Megahorn in this meta. Thoughts Molk EonX atomicllamas SilentVerse?

Why though. Megahorn's coverage seems to crazy superior to that of Knock Off. Knock Off seems Moves worthy for hitting Doublade when Lum Berry and Jellicent.

I agree that Megahorn should be the main slash, however Knock Off *does* have the perk of hitting Doublade way harder than Waterfall can while removing its Eviolite in the process, so that should definitely be mentioned in the moves section along w/ Knock Off itself =).

Isn't that what bolts did already tho, aside from the specific Doublade mention?

+2 252+ Atk Samurott Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 212 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Doublade: 182-216 (58.3 - 69.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+2 252+ Atk Mystic Water Samurott Waterfall vs. 212 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Doublade: 135-159 (43.2 - 50.9%) -- 3.1% chance to 2HKO

did you take Torrent into account or something o_O. Or did you mean after the Eviolite is already removed. (even there Knock Off still does more as long as the item is anything but Mystic Water).

have been testing this, decent ladder stomper, but it's utterly outclassed by both gatr (sd, coverage doesn't allow it to beat anything gatr doesn't) and clawitzer (megahorn / knock off break the same stuff its dark pulse does, 0 atk evs aqua jet is piss weak).
