Seismitoad

I know this is probably leaving to RU next month, but RU is strange so let's be ready for when it drops back. :^]

I have no witty joke to write here

Overview
########

  • One of the most reliable Stealth Rock setters in the tier
  • Checks common physically offensive Pokemon such as Archeops, Carracosta, Klinklang, Regirock, and Rhydon
  • Has useful abilities for both defensive and offensive play, in Water Absorb and Swift Swim respectively
  • 4x weakness to Grass let's it be beaten easily by specially offensive Pokemon that its typing would naturally check, such as Pyroar and Magmortar using Hidden Power Grass
  • Lack of reliable recovery shortens its longevity and reliability of checking offensive Pokemon

Defensive
########
name: Defensive
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Earthquake / Earth Power
move 3: Scald
move 4: Toxic / Knock Off
ability: Water Absorb
item: Leftovers
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def
nature: Relaxed / Bold

Moves
========

  • Stealth Rock because entry hazards
  • Earthquake takes advantage of Seismitoad's higher base Attack stat and hits Steel-, Electric-, and Poison-types that it can switch into, such as Klinklang, Lanturn, and Muk
  • Earth Power allows Seismitoad to use a Bold nature that won't decrease its speed, while also hitting harderd targets such as Klinklang, Mawile, Garbodor
  • Scald spreads burns through the opposing team
  • Toxic cuts into the longevity of common switch-ins, such as Mantine, Prinplup, and Pelipper
  • Knock Off gets rid of items from the opposing Pokemon

Set Details
========

  • 252 HP and 252 Def maximize Seismitoad's physical bulk
  • Relaxed nature is used to increase its Defense while not cutting into its Attack stat, if Seismitoad uses Earthquake / Knock Off
  • Bold nature can be used if Seismitoad doesn't opt for any physical moves, thus not losing any Speed
  • Leftovers offer passive recovery, Seismitoad's only other way of regainig Health being through Water Absorb
  • Water Absorb offers a Water immunity and a form of pseudo-recovery

Rain Dance Sweeper
########
name: Rain Dance Sweeper

move 2: Hydro Pump
move 3: Earth Power
move 4: Sludge Bomb
ability: Swift Swim
item: Life Orb
evs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Modest

Moves
========

  • Rain Dance activates Swift Swim and boosts Hydro Pump's damage output
  • Hydro Pump is the most powerful move Seismitoad can use, which is also boosted in Rain
  • Earth Power is the most reliable move on this set for when risking the chance to miss Hydro Pump is not necessary, while also hitting Water-resistant Pokemon such as Vileplume and Lanturn
  • Sludge Bomb hits offensive Grass-types that could otherwise stop Seismitoad, such as Ludicolo, Exeggutor, and Lilligant

Set Details
========

  • 252 SpA and a Modest nature allow Seismitoad to hit as hard as possible
  • Swift Swim doubles Seismitoad's speed, which coupled with 252 Spe EVs allow Seismitoad to outspeed the whole unboosted metagame under rain

Bowtie Addo when will this be finished?

Also idt Sash should be the only item on offensive Toad, not really sure what other people use but Lefties and LO are pretty solid

Sorry about not finishing this, I had some health issues- but it will be done this weekend. I'll add Lefties and Life Orb, and maybe a mention of Custap Berry.

Spread for Defensive should be 200 HP / 56 Def / 252 SpD Sassy/Calm. SpDef is way better in this meta, but PhDef should still have a huge mention in Set Details (swap the def/spdef EVs and nature for PhDef).

I also wouldn't run Knock Off on Offensive Stealth Rock. I think the last slot should be Endeavor / Grass Knot / maybe Sludge Bomb or HP Electric with Focus Sash / Expert Belt as the item with Leftovers in Set Details. Unlike defensive Seismitoad, you don't have a lot of free turns with the offensive set to Knock Off items and shit. You want to be setting Stealth Rock, attacking, or double switching on free turns. Expert Belt because:

252+ SpA Seismitoad Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 200 HP / 56 SpD Seismitoad: 340-404 (84.7 - 100.7%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Expert Belt Seismitoad Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 200 HP / 56 SpD Seismitoad: 408-485 (101.7 - 120.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Seismitoad Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garbodor: 288-338 (79.1 - 92.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Expert Belt Seismitoad Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garbodor: 346-406 (95 - 111.5%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO

252+ SpA Seismitoad Hidden Power Electric vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Mantine: 148-176 (44.3 - 52.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Expert Belt Seismitoad Hidden Power Electric vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Mantine: 178-211 (53.2 - 63.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ SpA Seismitoad Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Regirock: 174-206 (47.8 - 56.5%) -- 35.2% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Expert Belt Seismitoad Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Regirock: 209-247 (57.4 - 67.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
(hydro pump is a guaranteed 2hko either way, but earth power does it w/o a chance to miss if you're ebelt)

hollywood I agree with everything except for the ev spread, I dont think that 200 HP is optimal since just hitting a leftovers number is pretty arbitrary. There is a post here that shows some calcs and reasoning as to why max max in either stat is better. I can't think of anything that the slight extra 56 evs in either defense leftover would help with; not the biggest issue but something that I think should be changed, and bothered me from the original analysis.

we can switch to 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 SpD or if there's some other better spread that instead idc
