Silly Things You've Seen In Other Metagames

Got some more!

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-270032913
Mew and Mega Gardevoir versus the world. Pyroar is having none of it.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/hackmons1v1-270033863
Shedinja nicknamed "Kill Me!!!". Cloyster is only happy to oblige.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-270034227
Duel of the Water monos. Highlights include Dragon Pulse mixed Mega Gyarados, Dragon Pulse Milotic with Ice Beam on the same set, PuP Mega Swampert swiftly terminated by Ludicolo, Signal Beam Kingdra Draco-spamming itself to -6, Fake Out/Water Spout/EQ Blastoise, and Shadow Sneak/Night Slash Greninja.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-270036007
What's stupider: Crobat with Fly, or Toxicroak staying in on Crobat with Fly with a Raichu in the back? Sadly, that's all she writes here. Right side shows the all-too-real frustration of somebody just trying to win an honest game. (Or the also all-too-real frustration at opponents who don't know how to play.)

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-270038219
Another DD Lapras (#MyBaby), Red Card Skarmory, Weavile gets outsped by a Mew and bopped with a +2 Aura Sphere, said Mew puts a nice dent in the opposing team before falling to Magnezone...forfeit by right side. Really?

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-270039522
"I got hax," says right side. Skymin is promptly outsped and OHKOed. Right side still pulls out the narrowest of victories (as in: one more sleep turn and it was over).

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-270041403
Skymin whiffs two Grass Whistles and then kicks out to Latias on the obvious Ghost move, Latias used as a phazer, Dragonite gets caught out and 2HKOed by Foul Play, and offensive Mew...activates a Weakness Policy. Game over.

(Edit: this is the third consecutive set of replays I've posted ending with a Weakness Policy something. Huh.)

Ok this time I didn't feel that lazy so here you have today's Hackmons 1v1 stupidness:

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-hackmons1v1-270147794
Disable Togekiss.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-hackmons1v1-270148730
This:
★Julius Caesar I: tormentran is best tran
★Julius Caesar I: imo
Note: he didn't have a Heatran. Me neither.
Also me Imprison-Transforming an Imprison-Transformer Aggron.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-hackmons1v1-270151835
And the Togekiss guy again, this time I can see its moveset: Will-O-Wisp / Disable / Encore / Recover

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-hackmons1v1-270154538
Not sure if this it's stupid, but sure it's weird: Parental Bond Odor Sleuth + Seismic Toss Lugia.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-hackmons1v1-270155283
Water Spout / Protect / Nasty Plot / Skill Swap Truant Deoxys-S.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-hackmons1v1-270156406
That Lugia again.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-hackmons1v1-270156805
Protect / Drain Punch / Furstration / Skill Swap Truant Loppuny, Lopunny ever, manually Mega Evolving.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-hackmons1v1-270160322
That moment in which your opponent cannot even move. 1v1 magic I suppose.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-hackmons1v1-270161702
★Doctor Pig:Well since you have normalize gg
★Doctor Pig:Or transform too
I fail to understand what does this mean.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-hackmons1v1-270163495
Nothing stupid, just... 2 mons.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-hackmons1v1-270164073
Again, nothing stupid, just an awkward battle start.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-hackmons1v1-270180516
Mono-Psychic.

You didn't save that replay. Which is a shame, because I really wanted to see it. Anyway:

Soundproof Perish Song. Be glad nobody actually gets that combination.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-270174355
Togekiss has horrible luck, failing to flinch once in six Air Slashes and missing once. Wait...is that a Hustle Togekiss? Tyranitar whiffs consecutive Stone Edges as well. Right side understandably forfeits soon after.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/hackmons1v1-270175342
Soundproof Perish Song works again. Yikes. Glad I don't play Hackmons.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/hackmons1v1-270176776
Yeah, that trick kinda needs Soundproof to work. Or else this happens.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-270177263
This Togekiss is getting unlucky too (poisoned twice, the first one Lum Berry'd away, and an Air Slash miss). Double-Edge Tyranitar, FEAR Aron with Rock Smash thinking that'll work on a Ghost type (hint: it doesn't), and for what would become the final exchange of the match, storytime.

Turn 14
The opposing Gliscor used U-turn!
Gourgeist-Super lost 19% of its health!
The opposing Gliscor went back to shbfuh13456789!

Bad move. The only available switch-ins are Aron (at one HP) and Shedinja. Gourgeist goes for the PF as Sheddy comes in. Now, you'd expect a hard-switch to Gliscor, or Sheddy to maybe take the hit if it had X-Scissor. Instead, this happens.

Turn 15
The opposing Shedinja used Protect!
The opposing Shedinja protected itself!
Gourgeist-Super used Phantom Force!
It broke through the opposing Shedinja's protection!
It's super effective! The opposing Shedinja lost 100% of its health!
The opposing Shedinja fainted!

Yeah.

(L) Air Balloon Infernape. It Thunder Punches an Altaria after said Altaria Mega-Evolves.
(R) Moonblast Mega Altaria. What is Hyper Voice? Tailwind is non-standard, but I'll let it slide.
(R) Has no good switch-in to a Durant that seems to have a pretty standard moveset. Contrary Spinda gets chosen, gets in one Superpower, and switches out to Drifblim.
(R) Drifblim uses Psychic on Durant. Shadow Ball is neutral.
(R) Shell Bell Crustle.
(L) Regular Hoopa's Drain Punch deals pitiful damage to said Crustle, losing Hoopa an easy KO. They pick it up the next turn, though.
(R) Regular Glalie with Ice Beam and Explosion. Right uses Explosion against Hoopa under the impression that Hoopa wasn't a Ghost-type, so it's not like they expected an Ice-type Explosion.
(R) Mega Altaria's roosts are keeping pace with Hoopa's Gunk Shots (It's not Unbound, mate! Its Attack is middling!). Good options would have been to stall it out of its 8 PP and hope for a miss. The option taken was to lob off a Moonblast and barely dent it. Mega Altaria dies like a chump.
(R) Finally Spinda comes in to Sucker Punch the shit out of Hoopa. A good play, but you know what would have been better? Sending it out and doing that five turns ago.

The mons used were all kinda meh, but for all I know, they might have uses in Tier Shift when played properly. They certainly didn't seem to fit together very well, at least on the Right.

Fresh from the sewers (of low ladders) to you.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-271300310
Special Gyarados, Fire Punch/Flamethrower Zard-X, Quagsire spamming Curse against Yveltal, and Stone Edge Mamoswine with enough speed to outrun Yveltal (!). Right side forfeits after losing Zard to a Stone Edge.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-271303073
Um, Snorlax? This isn't Gen I, buddy. The Mega Venusaur that induces the forfeit is running Leech Seed/EQ/Knock Off.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/sketchmons-271304305
Turn 3. Welp... that's a thing in Sketchmons. Also, there are better Contrary V-Create abusers than Spinda, and Scolipede and Conkeldurr show us that Baton Pass is not dead.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/monotype-271306760
Fire mono on the right, and if I see another Air Slash Zard-Y...and it actually beat a +1 Keldeo! Ah, but it gets worse. Hitmontop busts out Rollout...and thanks to a Fire Miss from Heatran, Top gets two kills with it! (Somebody call Whitney.)

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/monotype-271309016
That is a DD RestTalk Gyarados. It is mega, but it holds off on doing so for obvious reasons...until turn 13, just to rub it in.

More AG replays!

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-271398736
Nasty Plot + Shadow Claw Darkrai, Solar Beam Groudon (anti-Ground move?) and non-Mega Venusaur using Sludge Bomb on the aforementioned Groudon. And this is in the 1400s.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-271400880
Unfezant, using Night Slash instead of Return on Azumarill. The latter also has Leftovers with Belly Drum.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-271402189
A list is needed for this one:
Left:
  • Haunter, which used Sludge Bomb on Heatran.
  • Typhlosion, ironically nicknamed "Rain", with Sunny Day and 3 other Fire-type moves: Flare Blitz, Eruption and Lava Plume. It forgot a moment that Heatran has Flash Fire. Certainly a 252+ Spe variant, as it didn't have a Scarf and outsped +1 Heatran.
  • Shadow Ball (again?) Houndoom.
  • Air Slash (oh dear...) non-Mega Charizard, used on Heatran.
  • Raikou using Extrasensory instead of Thunderbolt on Heatran (maybe someone who doesn't know the weaknesses of Steel-types).
  • Grovyle, with Dig, Energy Ball, Leaf Blade and Bullet Seed.
Right:
  • Flame Charge slow Heatran (slower than Typhlosion even at +1) which got a lucky Ancient Power boost, but it also forgot Houndoom's Flash Fire. Still, switching out vs. Grovyle is weird.
  • Aerial Ace Mega Rayquaza.
  • Bulk Up + Flamethrower Blaziken, which lost after taking a few sun-boosted Eruptions from Typhlosion (at 30% HP, could have been worse if it were healhier).
  • Groudon using Eruption on Typhlosion despite the Flash Fire tag being clearly visible.

Of all the moves you could possibly sketch...itemed Acro. Slow clap.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-271462095
Mono dragon on the left. Zard-X goes mega immediately and pays the price, while Nidoqueen gives Rayquaza a clean switch and also pays the price. (Nidos usually run Ice Beam anyway, right? Come on.) The dragons find themselves walled by a Mew...until turn 19 when it is inexplicably sacked, following Mew choosing to swing rather than burn. There's also a Bisharp taking an HP Fire to the face, that's pretty funny.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/monotype-271464545
Shuckle as backup sand setter, Starf Berry Regirock gets an SpA raise (whoops) and then Drain Punches a Tentacruel before going for Thunder Punch, the opposing Tenta Giga Draining once at full health instead of spamming Scald, Double Edge Aerodactyl (yes, Rock Head, but Normal), PuP Rhyperior, and this Rock team having nothing for a Water opponent and getting 6-0ed. Bonus points for forfeiting with the one thing capable of taking out Slowbro (Tyranitar) not having even hit the field yet.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/monotype-271466182
Excadrill sent into an obvious EQ (there goes your hazard removal) and Counter/Seismic Toss Quagsire (it's not Chansey, you know).

let's not forget the irony of Critdra getting ko'd by a critical hit sucker punch lol

I dunno. If the replay is any indication, Seismic Toss has niche utility as a Substitute-breaking move; had Quagsire been running just about anything else, Mega Gyarados could have set up all over it. Quag's owner still lost because their team and play weren't very good, but I don't think that move choice is silly.

Quagsire definitely doesn't have room for Counter, though. That's just silly.

Time for Silly Things After Dark! (Well, if's After Dark in my time zone, at least.)

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/unratedrandombattle-272242949
So yes, I let my Flareon die to a crit and probably Banded Waterfall (I had Wished the turn before and the calc said I was probably going to live a Waterfall, but of course it critted). However, the late turns of the battle get strange, thanks to Togekiss and my opponent seemingly forgetting how to play Pokemon:
  • On 15, he withdraws his Sludge Bomb Goodra (which has been Toxic'd) for a weakened Rotom. I nail it on the switch, tank a Thunderbolt, and kill it. Keep in mind Goodra is a monster of a special tank.
  • I Roost back to full against his Heatmor, then end up flinching it to death, as Togekiss are wont to do. My Leftovers have now been Knocked Off.
  • Turn 22, he drops a Draco while I stay in. He might have been predicting me to go out to something on a Sludge Bomb. (In fact I calc'd that Sludge Bomb was doing under 50%, and so I planned to stall it out.)
  • 23, he does it again. Now I'm wondering if he knows what he's doing.
  • 24, he does it again. Goodra drops to poison damage. In comes Fearow, which I know is Scarfed (turn 6, when I expected Raikou to severely injure if not outright kill it, but instead it took a Drill Run).
  • 25, Drill Run. That is four consecutive type-chart fails.
  • 26, Fearow gets out...for Azumarill, which Flareon did manage to heavily dent. Azu is sacked. Fearow's best choice is to lock itself into Brave Bird and hope for the best. Instead, he goes for...
  • ...U-Turn. As the last mon out. Against a 4x resist.
And that's the story of how I turned being down two because of horrible plays into a Togekiss sweep.

Meanwhile, back in the land of rated play... (feel free to comment on anything I missed, anything that doesn't seem so silly, anything really silly, etc.)

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-272251899
Apparently Durant has enough legitimate use that its appearance on an incomplete team with a trapper does not set off alarm bells.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/challengecup1v1-272253405
If you had no attacks, why did you pick that mon?

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-272254738
Right side looked okay...then turn 9 happened.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-272255718
#StallNotDead, not even close. Highlights include Blast Burn/Draco Meteor Arceus-N and Darkrai twiddling its thumbs on the left bench until turn 19 and still getting walled. Yes, this Porygon2 is that badass.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-272257127
Steel Wing MoxieMence daring to click Outrage with a Fairy in the back...but wait! Said Fairy comes out last, and by then is easy prey for a +5 Steel Wing. This is the sweep that never should have happened.

Ok, so, today I was laddering with Joshz Kellogg's Squad, and although I'm high I found this...

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-anythinggoes-272276263
Yes, that looks like a Baton Pass team. Problems are; 1st, that Smeargle isn't even Moody; 2nd, Roar's there; and 3rd, if you have to sack the whole team to Primal Groudon's, something's wrong.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-anythinggoes-272277084
I thought I was too high to find shitmons, but never say never. Highlights include Breloom and Weavile, and Mega Mewtwo Y surviving at 1HP to try to turn the match on its favor.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-anythinggoes-272278112
Yveltal trolls its nemesis.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-anythinggoes-272279018
Foe's team looks legit... I said looks...
- Horn Leech mixed Xerneas, trolled by Primal Groudon. Roar's magic. Then it ends up being problematic, because I Swagger it.
- Dragon Pulse Mega Rayquaza.
- Blizzard Kyurem-W.
- Using Origin Pulse on Mega Rayquaza, also note the Thunder miss due to Air Lock.
- Sending Hoopa-U on a fully set-up Mega Rayquaza, when Primal Groudon's there.
- Solar Beam Primal Groudon (not sure this is stupid).

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-anythinggoes-272280581
An OU team, surprising because I'm on the 1400s. Also (maybe) sending Ferrothorn in Mega Rayquaza, and Heatran in Arceus, although there's some (basic) logic behind those switches, they end... not well

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-anythinggoes-272281430
After beating the weird movesets team, looks like I'm scary enough to make the foe forfeit before even starting the battle. rofl

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-anythinggoes-272281700
The funny nicks. Also, on Gengar...
- Mega Evolution timing 10/10
- hax resistance 0/10
Deoxys-A is saved at 1HP to get s surprise kill later, also that Skill Swap. And troll Sawgkeys IS BACK...
After a Judgment miss, time's up!

AG Laddering Adventures Part 2: Electrike Boogaloo

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-272799314
An OU team with Thunder Wave+Gyro Ball Ferrothorn. At least he admitted it was bad. Later, he complained about getting haxed by Darkrai and Swagplay Klefki. Well, this is AG, after all, so what did he expect?

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-272803399
Next battle: The infamous normal Charizard, and with no hazard removal to boot, Thunder+Discharge+Volt Switch+Signal Beam Jolteon, and my attempts to PP stall Scizor out of Roost revealed turn 15. Swords Dance+U-turn new meta.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-272808256
This guy attempted to run mixed Sitrus Berry Xerneas, because Geomancy is overrated, and Fire Blast+Overheat+Blizzard+Draco Meteor Arceus-Dragon let my own Arceus get to +6 and clean up. Shame, too, because I kinda wanted to see what the other mons had.

There would be more, but not a lot of people are laddering for some reason.
