Silly Things You've Seen In Other Metagames

Pikachuun

the entire waruda machine
I also calced Calm Mind Arc-Steel vs. EQ Quaza.
252+ Atk Life Orb Mega Rayquaza Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Arceus-Steel: 252-299 (56.7 - 67.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
It did over 85%.
It probably had a Modest nature. Still not the best idea to run it on something that's supposed to take hits, though.

not really awful teams, but awful plays.

How do you know garde had 298 hp? And I never said that life orb sharpedo was better than mega sharpedo... I just said that he had a life orb, so it couldn't " or else an overpredict (counting on the other player counting on him Protecting)."
Ah, okay. You can hover your cursor over the damage dealt on an attack (Pokemon lost x% of its health!) and it will show the damage dealt as a fraction (88/274 or whatever).

Anyway, fresh from the sewers AG meta (ah, well, low-ladder AG might as well be the sewers):
  • (R) Pineco used as a rocks lead. You know something's wrong when Chansey grabs the opening kill with one Seismic Toss.
  • (L) Said Chansey proceeds to stay in on Mega-Ray for two turns (Toxic, then sacced), but considering it was a clean switch for Mega Kang, I can hardly fault the player for this.
  • (R) Non-primal Kyogre still outsped by Mega Kang (would Scarf Kyogre outrun it? I hope so).
  • (R) Kyogre out, Ditto in...and Ditto promptly eats a +2 Drain Punch. *sad trombone*
Another (and this is a damn good one if I do say so myself):
  • (R) Mew with Avalanche, which certainly works well against the Latias it faces down. Also had Sludge Wave--but hey, it's Mew.
  • (L) Pretty sure Latias doesn't need to carry Ice Beam.
  • (R) Alakazam with Body Slam. Knock Off is one thing (bye Chansey!). Body Slam? Uh, no.
  • (L) Glaceon puts in some work, scoring a freeze and eventually kill on Zam. Alas, it had Aqua Tail and Iron Tail (and of course no Specs). Base 60 Atk there, folks, and a damn shame, because Glaceon is one of my favorite Pokemon and I would have loved to see it sweep.
  • (L) Non-mega Lopunny with High Jump Kick, Fire Punch, Focus Blast and Blizzard. Base 54 SpA there, folks. Oh, and it froze a Gyarados. That's two freezes for this player today. Wish I was that lucky.
  • (R) Doublade with Snore, which it used while awake, and Spite.
  • (L) Garchomp with Surf. Um...you're not really hitting anything with that, sorry.
  • (L) Haxorus spamming Guillotine on a Conkeldurr that's behind a sub. Not getting anywhere with that, I'm afraid.
  • (L) Gyarados with Strength. Just no. (One, Return, and we have unlimited TMs now, you know. Two, what are you hitting with any Normal-type move not on a Normal-type or something with -ate?)
  • (L) This exchange:
    ★Jaredactyl11: I won't go down easy
    Jaredactyl11 has 120 seconds left.

    Candy used Fire Punch!
It's not very effective... The opposing Gyarados lost 7.0% of its health!
    The opposing Gyarados thawed out!

Poison Point on that Nidoking, by the way. Still, the Eeveelution squad was actually competently played--its moves and sets are what you would expect to see, and it had Sylveon, which is OU for a reason. (Did you see that thing? Cutest one of the bunch, but it will murder you if you let it.)

Every so often you'll see a theme team commanded by somebody who actually knows how to play Pokemon, they just may not be that good at teambuilding, or feeling lazy, or it's low-ladder trolling.

I have to wonder about some people. Look at this.
  • (R) Swalot using Yawn and then Nightmare, when the entire point of Yawn is to make people get the hell out. Also had Ice Punch, which it used on a Jirachi for lack of a better option.
  • (R) Parasect with a Sitrus Berry; we never get to see its moves due to it being flinched and then killed.
  • (R) Lunatone with Protect. Is this a PU team or something? If so, why do you have a Haxorus (UU) and a Pangoro?
  • (R) Pangoro with Quash (forces the target to move last). This is Singles, friend.
  • (L) Jirachi/Nidoqueen sweep. And a 6-0 too, as Electrode can't even Explode and kill Nido. Aside from the Mienshao lead, those were the only mons to hit the field on that side. That has to be embarrassing.
Another.
  • (R) Smeargle, Umbreon, and Mega Salamence. That's it. Mence is good, but I don't think it's that good.
  • (R) Smeargle gets greedy with the Dragon Dances. After setting one up only to get paralyzed, it opts to try for two instead of passing the one. Welp, two Air Slashes later...
  • (R) Synchronize is a neat ability when dealing with somebody known to pack Thunder Wave. But using Foul Play on a Togekiss? That's base 50, and resisted. Well, goodbye, Umbreon.
  • (R) Mence finally comes in...and is packing Thrash. Well, it does have no immunities and hits 156 BP after Aerialate. Not a bad choice, but thank goodness for the lack of Ice-types facing it.
  • (L) Blaze Kick Blaziken. Once again, it is a Fire move, not a Fighting one. Though that higher critical-hit ratio does make for some interesting options. (It gets Focus Energy, remember?)
  • (L) Almost, R. Almost. Alas, you do not mess with Skymin.

Left:
-What looked like an ADV stall team (plus Shuckle) updated for Gen 6.
-Aqua Ring+Barrier+Giga Drain+Rain Dance Rain Dish Tentacruel.

Right:
-Extreme Speed+Draco Meteor Arceus-Psychic.
-Water Spout+Origin Pulse+Dive Primal Kyogre.
-Giga Impact Giratina-O, using it on a +2 (courtesy of Contrary Shell Smash) Shuckle.
-Giga Impact Darkrai (sensing a theme here?), and its user timing out immediately after using it.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-234533047

Left:
-Non-mega Metagross, somehow (correctly) predicting Gyarados would mega evolve and using Earthquake on it.
-I'm not sure what Surf on Mega Rayquaza is hitting, but it sure screwed over that Numel.
-Shadow Claw (again, Ghost=/=Dark)+Acrobatics (at least it appeared to be itemless) Yveltal.
-Wobbuffet repeatedly using Counter on Skarmory when it was pretty obvious Skarm would not be attacking.

Right:
-Numel, which I know has a niche against Klefki, but was only death fodder here.
-Dragon Pulse Noivern, which Megaray survived to kill it with Dragon Ascent.
-Eject Button Talonflame.

And both players, despite one being in the 1300's and the other in the high 1200's, using "!weakness [mon]" on every switch-in.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-234534641
A team of all Glalie using only Explosion. One of them, appropriately, was nicknamed "this is wrong".
-Red Card Skarmory.

Dear Arceus, where do I even begin...

Left Side:
- Masquerain
- Wormadam
- Beautifly
- Is bulky stall Whirlipede actually a viable thing? I mean, it definitely put in work here, but that was partly because of the soul-crushing stupidity of the other side...

Right Side:
- Ancient Power Tyranitar
- Mixed non-mega Absol with Shadow Ball, Shadow Claw and Water Pulse
- Mixed Inner Focus Bisharp with Dark Pulse and Shadow Claw
- Offensive Umbreon with Dark Pulse and Shadow Ball
- Weavile with Avalanche
- Not sending in Mega Sableye, the only one capable of taking that Whirlipede, until after the rest of her team was KOed.

DARK DOES NOT EQUAL GHOST. Also, Dark and Ghost? Redundant coverage much? And lol random Eviolite NFE. Just because it works for Chansey or Dusclops or Porygon2 or Scyther does not mean it works for everyone.

Anyway, here's another one I have:
  • (R) TrickSpecs (wouldn't you rather keep those?) Rotom-Wash attempts to Trick the Alakazam lead, thinking that since Charizard's there Zam can't be the mega. Well, Zam was the mega. Cue Energy Ball.
  • (L) Obligatory non-mega Charizard comment.
  • (R) Dragonite takes 86% from a Kyurem-B's Dragon Tail from full health. I have a feeling it didn't have Multiscale. Teravolt. Nevermind.
  • (L) Kyube had an Aguav Berry. Face, meet palm. Also, Focus Blast isn't a bad option on it, but when you have that and Dragon Tail I start to wonder what you're giving up.
  • (L) Why quit when you're up one and have put one of your opponent's major threats in the red?
Here:
  • (L) Toxic lead Talonflame. That's new. It gets spored, but stays in--which ends up working out, only losing one turn to then one-shot the artist with a Brave Bird.
  • (R) Smeargle used as a rocks lead. Well, Spore + Rocks is unique to it, at least.
  • (R) Umbreon with Curse, Refresh, and Moonlight, which puts in some work (you go Umbreon!) making Talonflame look like a damn fool as it sets up all over it and stalls the bird out (thanks to Synchronize kicking in, of course). Darkrai comes in and misses a Dark Void, making this the luckiest Umbreon in the game right now.
  • (R) Combusken. As usual with NFEs that have no business being in this high a game, please have an Eviolite at least. It was SubProtect with SD and Baton Pass with a Sitrus Berry (so no Eviolite).
  • (L) Yveltal with Hyper Voice, which caught the poor chicken out. Cue the pass into Lucario, fortunately.
  • (R) Mega Lucario induces a forfeit, being at +6 Speed and Attack and clearly about to sweep. A well-executed pass that shows us exactly why even one can be dangerous, but...why Combusken?

Random Shit: Explosion Edition

Well guys, due to the number and quality of good (for this thread) OM replays both dropping off noticeably, I've decided to retire Random Shit. I will probably still post ITT from time to time, but this will be the last RS.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235271097
Obligatory Hypnosis+Shadow Ball Darkrai, Mewtwo using Psyshock on it (or ever), Fire Punch+Dragon Tail Charizard-Y, Fly Yveltal, mixed Arceus-Fire using Earthquake on Thundurus, Thundy then using Sludge Bomb on Magneton, and said Magneton having Magnet Bomb.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/monotype-235270462
I don't know how good Assault Vest Armaldo is, but using your STAB moves on a Conkeldurr will not work well, regardless of the number of crits you get. On that topic, there was a disproportionately large number of crits in this one, plus a High Jump Kick miss, and a Rock mono pulling out the win over a Fighting mono.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235271361
Mega Kangaskhan vs. the world. Of Torterra, non-mega Charizard, Effect Spore Breloom, and more.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/monotype-235270211
Assault Vest Gastrodon with Earthquake, setting up on Quagsire, Toxicing a Mega Absol, Toxicing an Umbreon (which, for what it's worth, had a Rocky Helmet), and Umbreon failing to comprehend the fact that it can't beat Hippowdon all that well.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235269867
Not all that silly, but this guy probably thinks Arceus-Fire is a top tier sweeper now.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/pu-235268498
TL;DR all NFE team beats an all FE team. To be fair, the NFE team was at least somewhat competently built, although I can't say the same for his opponent.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235270159
If it weren't for the Greninja, I'd think this was a crappy attempt at a TR team. Also starring Substitute+Rest Dragonite and Whimsicott Encoring Garbodor into Gunk Shot and immediately getting smoked.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235268542
Toxic everywhere, shitmons everywhere, Magic Bounce awareness fail everywhere, and Solrock using Solar Beam outside of sun (it faded on the previous turn, guess someone forgot Heat Rock) and then promptly getting taken out.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/monotype-235277120
Flamethrower Mega Gyarados and Aqua Ring+Rollout Azumarill, which it attempted to defeat a Golurk with. And based on that damage (2.4%), it probably wasn't Huge Power, either.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235276925
Brock team, Onix included, and a Kabutops that apparently thinks it's Jirachi.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/monotype-235276432
>using Dedenne
>ever

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235274855
You know a team is bad when the only thing that avoids getting OHKOed by +2 E-Killer is a Caterpie.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/balancedhackmons-235276520
And this is why Chansey should only use Imposter in BH.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235275063
Roar Mega Manectric is a new one. Also HP Ice Chandelure doing work. Kind of a shame we didn't get to see the Gligar vs. Gliscor fight.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/monotype-235273128
Repeated uses of Defog against Bisharp will not help you, Sucker Punch be damned. Especially coming from Mega Pidgeot, where the evasion drops are moot.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/pu-235274567
NFE guy from before returns, this time forcing a ragequit against Weakness Policy Torterra and Amnesia Swoobat, among others.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogontriples-235273099
I really don't see the point of having Agility and Bullet Punch on the same Megagross, which may be why this battle took so long (by Triples standards, 27 turns is a long time).

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/balancedhackmons-235278538
I partially retract my prior statement about non-Imposter Chansey. But only slightly. And because of some hax.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235279298
Speaking of hax, Quick Claw Horn Drill Rhydon and copious amounts of flinching in this one.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/monotype-235279922
Is Assault Vest Rotom-Fan a thing? Side note, I really don't see the point of setting up Stealth Rock against a Fighting mono, especially when only one mon is even taking neutral damage from it.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/balancedhackmons-235280767
Apparently, Electrify affects Skill Swap, too. That does not excuse Roar on Deoxys-S, though.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235280332
Obligatory Dream Eater Darkrai trying to vary the routine with Drain Punch, Latias, Lugia, and Reshiram all holding Abomasite, and Fly+Sky Drop Lugia.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235282506
All Quagsire team, meet Tangrowth.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235282522
Speed Boost Quick Claw Ninjask. Gotta go fast. Sweeping a team where its owner, by his own admission, was screwing around.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235280579
Coil Milotic and Power Split+Shell Smash (no Contrary, at least) Quick Claw Shuckle.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/monotype-235267005

I can't even begin to list everything here. This is... this is just a tidal wave of stupidity.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-235270159
If it weren't for the Greninja, I'd think this was a crappy attempt at a TR team. Also starring Substitute+Rest Dragonite and Whimsicott Encoring Garbodor into Gunk Shot and immediately getting smoked.
Hold on, did that Encore end after only one turn? How did that happen?
