[OVERVIEW]
  • Smeargle's access to virtually every move allows it to use a variety of options
  • Is one of the few sticky web users in the tier
  • Its decent speed tier allows it to do its role effectively
  • It is one of the few good suicide leads in the tier
  • Low defenses force it to set up hazards quickly
  • Gets shut down by fast taunters
[SET]
name: Lead
move 1: Sticky Web
move 2: Stealth Rock
move 3: Dark Void
move 4: Nuzzle/Skill Swap
item: Focus Sash
ability: Own Tempo
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
=======
  • Sticky Web is a must on smeargle, allowing it to get up webs, making the opponent have -1 Speed on every switch in
  • Stealth Rock allows it to damage Pokemon on the switch
  • Dark Void gives it utility to sleep things, and also allows it to set up more hazards
  • Nuzzle allows it to paralyze faster targets or targets that seem threatening, making them much easier to deal with
  • Skill Swap lets it hit Magic Bouncers like Xatu on the switch, rendering it unable to wall Smeargle
[Set Details]
=======
  • Maximum speed investment is optimal as it allows Smeargle to outspeed much more
  • 252 HP evs allow it to take hits in general better
Usage Tips
=======
  • Smeargle is best used as a lead so its focus sash does not get broken by hazards
  • Be wary of teams with a Contrary or Defiant Pokemon, as Sticky Web benefits them
  • First choice should be to force a sleep, set up sticky webs, followed by stealth rock
Team Options
=======

  • A hazard deterrent such as Mismagius or Malamar is good as it punishes Rapid Spin and Defog
  • Something that abuses Sticky Web and Stealth Rock like Jynx or Lilligant are good options
  • A slower set up sweeper like Swords Dance Samurott finishes off faster teams with Sticky Web
Other Options
=======
  • Explosion is an option as it allows a free switch into a Pokemon of your choice
  • A Trick Room set of Dark Void/Trick Room/Explosion/Stealth Rock
Checks and Counters
=======

**Fast Taunters**: Fast taunters like mismagius can taunt smeargle turn 1 and render it pretty much useless

**Xatu**: A hard check to smeargle, Xatu can bounce back hazards with no risk unless the smeargle has skill swap

**Lum Berry**: Lum berry Pokemon such as Lum Berry Samurott or Lum Berry Hitmonchan have a good matchup because they can take smeargle down to sash with no risk and can follow up with priority

Hi Watchog, I've discussed this with the QC team and there's a few red flags popping up about the quality of this analysis.

Overall it seems to be very sparse and doesn't discuss some key issues that we would expect this analysis to deal with. Spore hasn't even been mentioned despite being as good as (if not better than Dark Void) due to its better overall accuracy. While Dark Void can put Grass-types to Sleep, Spore is superior against any team that doesn't run them, and with Magmortar being a common threat on Sticky Web teams, the opportunity cost of Spore becomes even lower. Your description of Sticky Web in moves is Dex information without any context of how the playstyle works in the tier or how the move interacts with non-grounded Pokemon.

The other sections are also vague; usage tips is particularly alarming as it suggests that Smeargle should always use the same strategy every match, which is definitely false; there are many situations where it's better to lead with something else (such as against Archeops leads) or prioritise Rocks over Webs. This analysis should discuss different scenarios so that players know what to expect in a variety of contexts. Team options is also very short considering this Pokémon defines an entire team archetype, and there are much better Sticky Web abusers than Jynx and Lilligant, both of which clash with Smeargle due to Sleep Clause, among other issues. Other options is also very sparse considering Smeargle gets every move in the game; you should take the time to find out what other moves and sets are usable, as there's a lot of them, especially if you have a reliable way of dealing with Xatu.

Please expand on these sections and demonstrate your knowledge with the Pokemon, or this will be reassigned.

Here's some information that you might find useful: http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/writing-nu-analyses-required-reading.3533601/

Let me know how this goes.

Can you update this in 24 hours please? It's been almost a week without any progress.

EDIT: Shadestep is taking this over, locking and moving.
