Arena: The Spike Pit
Arena: Spike Pit
Field Type: All Types
Complexity: Simple
Format: All Formats

Restrictions: None.

Description:
A commodious chamber probably intended for large-scale torture, the Spike Pit has now been transformed into a battling arena for sadistic trainers and masochistic Pokemon. Trainers stand on a walkway that hugs the edge of the circular chamber, while their Pokemon battle it out on a circular, medium-sized metal platform below. The platform does not reach the edges of the chamber; there exists a space large enough between the edge of the platform and the closest point of the wall of the chamber such that Pokemon of all sizes could easily fall off the platform. Below and to the sides of the platform is a layer of dense spikes. The room is constructed such that Flying-type Pokemon cannot fly to the level of the trainers or above, and Ghost-type Pokemon are unable to pass through the spikes or the platform. Inexplicably, all moves are able to be used without harm to the chamber, even those that would require sources.

The platform itself has a few interesting facets. There are metal rungs evenly spaced, near the edge of the platform, that smaller Pokemon with dexterous digits or appendages could possibly hold onto to avoid getting struck into the pit or other purposes. In addition, the the platform also has large circular pillars—also made of metal—closer to the center of the platform that larger Pokemon could hold onto; the circumference of the pillar is so large, however, that smaller Pokemon may find it difficult to hold on. Every so often, a warning will sound at the end of the round stating an exact action; at the end of that action the next round, the platform will spin rapidly, spinning all Pokemon that are not successfully anchored to the platform in some way into the pit below.

For each action a given Pokemon is in contact with the spikes, it takes 10 DMG, not affected by weakness, resistance, or stat ranks. Should a Pokemon fall into the pit, its subsequent actions will be replaced with "Climb out of Pit" until successful, costing 3 EN every time. This action is subject to neither the consecutive move penalty nor the effects of any other attack. The nature and damage of the spikes may be changed by means of attacks.

Summary:
Don't fall into spikes. Things not codified are referee discretion.

Note that this arena will require some RP actions; for this purpose, the match in general will be more tilted towards using moves that keep yourself on the platform and/or keep your opponents off the platform. Don't be afraid to try interesting tactics; they just might work out wildly in your favor.

Team Dogfish44

Electivire [Short Fuse] (M)
Type: Electric - Electric STAB; 50% reduction in paralysis chance from other electrical attacks, perfect accuracy and 30% chance of Protect breaking Thunder during Rain. Superior senses in power plant environments.
Nature: Mild (+SpAtk -Def)

Abilities:
Ability 1: Motor Drive (Innate) - This Pokemon nullifies any electrical attack damage and converts the energy from any electrical attack (inc. Thunder Wave) into an energy source that allows it to boost its speed by one (1) level. A boost gained this way by an opponent's attack will be maintained at the end of each round. Self-targeted attacks do not maintain boosts..
Ability 2: Vital Spirit (DW) (Innate) - This Pokemon has a high vitality and alertness making it immune to sleep induced by other Pokemon. Its normal state of sleeplessness makes it take 1 less damage/action from Ghost Curse. If it is put to sleep by a Pokemon with Mold Breaker it will wake up the next action.

Thick Fat:
Type: Innate
This Pokemon has a great deal of extra fat or muscle that increases its resistance to extreme heat or extreme cold, reducing the type effectiveness of Fire- and Ice-typed attacks to the next level of resistance (2x weak becomes neutral, neutral becomes resistance, etc.)

Immunity:
Type: Innate
This Pokemon’s body has an immensely strong immune response to venom and does not take poison damage when Poisoned. Toxic Poisoning will not do damage; however, it will continue to grow more severe.

Mind (Mr. Mime) (F)
Nature: Timid
Type: Psychic
Psychic STAB; less susceptible to blinding, more susceptible to sound-based assaults as far as locking on with Psychic attacks, can lift and throw opponents with Psychic regardless of Special Attack Rank. Psychic-type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.

Abilities:
Soundproof:Type: Innate
Pokemon with this ability emit their own powerful electrostatic or sound-dampening field, making them immune to sound-based moves other than an ally's or their own Heal Bell. (Known sound moves: Bug Buzz, Chatter, Echoed Voice, Grasswhistle, Growl, Heal Bell, Hyper Voice, Metal Sound, Perish Song, Relic Song, Roar, Round, Screech, Sing, Snarl, Snore, Supersonic, Uproar.
Filter:Type: Innate
This Pokemon has a special energy barrier that reduces the Base Attack Power of any opponent’s super-effective attack by two (2).
Technician (DW):Type: Innate
This Pokemon is more skilled at performing weaker moves, causing any of their attacks that normally have 6 or less Base Attack Power to have their Base Attack Power multiplied by 1.5. (e.g. Aerial Ace goes from 6 to 9, Mach Punch goes from 4 to 6, etc.) The Energy Cost for a one-hit or two-hit attack is increased by one (1). Each hit in a multi-hit move is boosted by one (1) Base Attack Power, and the Energy Cost for multi-hit attacks is increased by two (2). Because Technician is a multiplier on single hit moves, its effect is applied to Base Attack Power before any additive effects.

BEGIN ROUND ONE

...and the trainers waste no time sending their Pokemon out onto the dreaded Spike Pit platform!

Armed with a power-enhancing belt, Short Fuse lets off three massive blasts of energy, causing a great deal of damage to Nommy; unfortunately, they don't really do much to knock her into the pit, considering her... er... mass. But what's that? They each seem to have different effects, too; the first one deals a greater-than-expected amount of damage, the second one lowers her fortitude to special attacks ever so slightly, while the third one misses altogether. You hear the ever-helpful PA system above the pit blare, however.

Nommy's Special Defense fell! She will be more susceptible to being knocked off by special attacks!

As these blasts of fighting energy smack into Nommy's ample mass, she attempts to counter the blow, but fails each and every time. The only thing useful she does the entire round is take continual bites out of its leftover apple, which doesn't seem to be getting any smaller despite the fact that she keeps on biting it. And how is a rotten apple supposed to significantly heal a gluttonous Pokemon? There really isn't anything special this round, although the PA system does blare again at the end.

Commencing RPR [Rapid Platform Rotation] in two.

It seems as if the platform spinning may come sooner than you think!

"OK then, let's get cracking!

Lead with a Bind on one of the circular pillars to get a grip on the arena - this should stabalise us for when we're spun. Then let's see how he deals with a Thunder Wave to make him lose his balance with ease - however, if he has a substitute up see if it can withstand a Thunder - use the metal platforming to help guide the attack! Finish up with a Discharge - the aim here is to get as much electricity into the arena floor so we can tap into it later on."

All right...
Our opponent gives us the head start with a bind to the pillars, so let's take advantage of that with a focus punch! We'll get rid of that later. Next, protect against the thunder wave--I don't think we'll enjoy being paralyzed, even with our low speed. Finally, lets hit that snake with a yawn--we'll abuse that sleep later.

BEGIN ROUND TWO

As Nommy begins focusing for a punch, Murena wraps her serpentine body around the metal pillar and coils herself tightly around it; however, she doesn't expect to get smashed by Nommy's massive punch. As she rears her head around and tries to paralyze Nommy with a spark of electricity, Nommy hurls up a protective barrier, foiling her attempt. However, the PA emits a crackling voice that gives the Pokemon but a split second to react:

Commencing RPR.

The platform begins to rotate, and steadily speeds up until Nommy can't fight the centripetal force anymore and ends up being flung out into the spike pit, taking a large amount of damage. Murena is able to hold on due to her Bind, however, and uncoils herself, grinning slightly.

Watching her enemy struggle against the spike pit, Murena releases a large amount of electricity, hoping to paralyze the already-slow Snorlax. That doesn't happen, however, but Nommy does take a large amount of damage. Wincing a bit as the electricity surges through the spikes, Nommy manages to clamber out of the pit.

BEGIN ROUND THREE

Murena protects herself while Purple Boss lashes out at her, gibing and jeering all the way. Seeing as that tactic didn't work out so well, Purple Boss abruptly changes gears and uses the excess electricity in the metal platforms to power up its Thunder attack, dealing significant damage despite Murena's natural resistance; however, it seems that the attack un-electrified the spikes in the pit below. Murena launches a small spark of electricity at Purple Boss, paralyzing it, before following up by using its mouth to viciously attack the Gengar. Purple Boss sprays toxins at Murena in retaliation, badly poisoning her! As the two Pokemon jump back onto opposite sides of the platform, heaving and breathing hard, the PA voice sounds again.

Commencing RPR in one, three, and se—

System temporarily disabled.

As you wonder what this could mean, especially the last bit, the lights in the arena suddenly shut off. You hear a faint humming from far away as what you surmise to be a backup generator begins to start. A single bulb from the very top of the chamber glows dimly, providing feeble light; it doesn't seem to be enough for most Pokemon and trainers to see well, but it's better than complete darkness. Guess you'll have to deal with this for now.

"Electivire, begin with a Flash - maintain it around your head to project some light on this scenario. Then blast Gengar back with a Psychic, followed by a Rock Slide."

Flash [Boost Arena Light] ~ Psychic ~ Rock Slide

IF Evasive Move THEN Pursuit
IF Confuse Ray, AND you have a sub up AND you're faster THEN Substitute [15] AND push actons down.

Thanks dogfish--that light should help you to target us, which is just what we want!
All right purple boss. There's a reason why I like playing with Gengar, and that's because we never really are losing, even when we're behind on health! Let's pull this match back in our favor, and hope that this parahax doesn't screw us over. I would shock the system with electricity, but perhaps playing with electricity is best done NOT with the electric type leader.
I want you to start off coating the platform with toxic--this way, we'll be able to deal some passive damage to everyone, no matter who switches in! Then, pain split to level the playing field. Finish off by countering that rock slide--but if it misses, and electivire is poisoned, then venoshock it! Otherwise, just hit it with a will-o-wisp!
Coat platform with toxic-pain split-counter
If rock slide misses A3,
-AND venoshock would deal double damage, then venoshock
-If not, then will-o-wisp
If parahaxed A2, pain split A3

ARENA: Dim Light [??a]

BEGIN ROUND FOUR

Short Fuse begins by lighting up the entire arena with a bright flash of light—a welcome alternative to the dim bulb hanging meekly above. Purple Boss, opting for some more devious tactics, sprays toxins all over the metal platform, coating it in a thin layer; the toxins seem to be thick enough to not drip off, but another RPR may be able to rid the platform of it!

Then, just as Purple Boss begins his second trick, he finds himself suspended in the air, surrounded by a flickering blue aura; he looks down to find Short Fuse grinning slightly before hurling him psychically into a nearby pillar. Purple Boss doesn't skip a beat, though, as he strikes back, evening their health!

Just a bit miffed, Short Fuse grabs a pile of rocks that are conveniently on hand and chucks them all at Purple Boss, who absorbs, then counters the blow for even more damage, albeit at the cost of some of his own health, thanks to the strange orb he's carrying. The backup generator seems to be humming at a pretty consistent rate; who knows when the power will be back?

END ROUND FOUR
