[OVERVIEW]

  • Porygon-Z boasts the most powerful Boomburst in the tier, backed by Adaptability and base 135 Special Attack.
  • Despite having a relatively low base Attack of 90, it can run mixed sets very well due to the power boost provided by Adaptability.
  • Fake Out + Extreme Speed provides very high utility for an otherwise mediocre matchup against faster foes.
  • Porygon-Z's Speed of 90 allows it to outspeed many common bulky foes, allowing it to KO many of these with its powerful attacks.
  • Despite a good base Special Attack stat, its coverage moves tend to be on the weaker side, allowing specially bulky Normal-type resists and Ghost-types to wall most sets.
  • Porygon-Z has rather poor bulk, making it difficult to take hits against more offensive teams; most strong, neutral attacks will KO.
  • While it's speed is enough to outspeed bulky foes, many common offensive mons outspeed it, making it slightly less effective against offensive teams.
  • Aside from a few unfortunate flaws, Porygon-Z is an extremely threatening mon in the STABmons metagame due to its extreme power.

[SET]
name: Revenge Killer
move 1: Fake Out
move 2: Extreme Speed
move 3: Boomburst
move 4: Work Up / Baton Pass
item: Silk Scarf
ability: Adaptability
nature: Rash
evs: 156 Atk / 252 SpA / 100 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Fake Out provides first-turn priority that is unstoppable barring Protect and its variants, providing heavy chip damage with little opportunity cost.
  • Extreme Speed is a powerful priority move, and paired with Fake out, allows Porygon-Z to revenge many top-tier threats.
  • Boomburst is the most spammable move on the set, possessing massive power with base 135 Special Attack and Adaptability.
  • Work Up provides a means of boosting both Attack and Special Attack, allowing Porygon-Z to sweep many balanced teams at a moment's notice. Baton pass provides the ability to pivot out of checks, while Swords Dance, Nasty Plot, Shadow Ball, and Dark Pulse are all decent options.

Set Details
========

  • The EV spread is invested in max Special Attack, allowing it to 2HKO threats such as Specially Defensive Ferrothorn at +1, with enough speed to outspeed fully invested base 60s, such as Sylveon.
  • 188 speed EVs can be used to outspeed positive base-70s, such as Volcanion, and max Attack can make this set a much more efficient revenge killer.
  • A Rash nature allows it to maximize its Special Attack without sacrificing more of its already low physical bulk, allowing it to tank a Fake Out or two in a pinch.
  • Adaptability makes Porygon-Z a very powerful wallbreaker, boosting it's normal-type STAB from 1.5x to 2x.
  • Silk Scarf is chosen for a recoil-less 1.2x boost to all its attacks, due to using only Normal-type moves.

Usage Tips
========

  • This Porygon-Z serves as both a Wallbreaker and a Revenge-Killer, picking off weakened foes while abusing the raw power of Boomburst to get past many resists.
  • Work Up is an option against passive mons, and allows Porygon-Z to hit even harder, 2HKOing Chansey and Specially Defensive Ferrothorn while allowing it to OHKO offensive threats such as Thundurus with Extreme Speed.
  • Porygon-Z's lack of bulk means it shouldn't be switching in very often, and it often struggles to set up as a result.
  • The Normal-type only moveset leaves Porygon-Z completely walled by ghosts, so as long as ghost types are in play, Porygon-Z is not very useful.

Team Options
========

  • Porygon-Z is very powerful once it gets set up, requiring very little team support, but its lack of bulk means that free turns are required to set up. Partners that give free turns, such as Celebi, slow U-turn, parting shot, volt switch, and Spore users pair well with Porygon-Z.
  • Despite its ability to sweep teams with ease, Ghost-types completely wall this set. As a result, Pursuit trappers such as Tyranitar and Weavile make good partners.
  • Sableye is a major problem for this set and pursuit trappers, so Fairy-types like Sylveon that can switch into Sableye are also great team support, and they help sponge Fighting-type attacks.
  • A sponge for opposing Fake Out + Extreme Speed is also appreciated, making Mega Slowbro, Skarmory, and Landorus-T good partners.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Boomburst
move 2: Extreme Speed
move 3: Shadow Ball / Dark Pulse
move 4: Trick
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Adaptability
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Boomburst is the go-to option that will be clicked almost every time, due to its extreme wallbreaking power and the inability for offense to switch-in with a Choice Scarf equipped.
  • Trick is used to allow Porygon-Z to play well against more bulky teams, preventing it from getting locked into a move while doing so to an opponent, potentially giving Porygon-Z a nice item such as Leftovers in the process.
  • Shadow Ball hits most of the tier's Ghost-types for decent damage.
  • Dark Pulse is an option over Shadow Ball, still hitting most of the tier's Ghost-types without being walled by Normal-types while locked into Shadow Ball.
  • The last move is entirely up to preference; Adaptability Extreme Speed, although unboosted, does decent damage in a pinch.

Set Details
========

  • The EV spread is standard, maximized in both Special Attack and Speed to do tons of damage as quickly as possible.
  • A Timid nature is used to outspeed Scarf Excadrill and Adamant Scarf Kyurem-Black, allowing Porygon-Z to hit both of them hard before they can retaliate.
  • Choice Scarf boosts Porygon-Z's mediocre speed by 1.5x, and helps it compete with the many fastmons in the tier. Porygon-Z's tendency to spam Boomburst mitigates the opportunity cost of being locked into one move.

Usage Tips
========

  • This Porygon-Z set favors a predominantly hit-and-run playstyle, with the capability to clean late-game.
  • Scarf Porygon-Z appreciates the ability to switch in and out for free, so attempt to get it free switches to mitigate its longevity.
  • Despite its high speed, this Porygon-Z set generally is better used as a wallbreaker than a revenge killer due to the immense power of Boomburst and its inability to outpace other revenge killers.
  • This set struggles with many common special walls in this metagame, such as Chansey, but with proper prediction, can cripple them by tricking them a Choice Scarf.
  • Despite having Shadow Ball, this set still struggles while Ghost-types such as Sableye are in play.
  • Always switch out of Fake Out + Extreme Speed, as Porygon-Z is easily killed by powerful priority.

Team Options
========

  • Scarf Porygon-Z appreciates the ability to switch in and out for free, so partners that can give slow pivots such as Celebi are appreciated, as are teammates that switch into common revenge killers, such as Mega Slowbro.
  • Teammates that switch into common special tanks like Chansey and Mega Scizor, such as Landorus-T, are useful for assisting Porygon-Z in performing its role.
  • Porygon-Z does not particularly appreciate hazards, as they damage its longevity and ability to take Fake Out + Extreme Speed from some opponents, so some form of hazard control is appreciated.
  • Reliable switch-ins to Sableye are also appreciated; Choice Specs Keldeo takes advantage of Sableye while forming an extremely threatening wallbreaking core with Porygon-Z.
  • Rapid Spin is an option for clearing hazards in a pinch, and can also be used as filler on the Choice Scarf set. Explosion is an option on both sets; it's raw power doing absurd amounts of damage to non-Ghost-types.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Porygon-Z's raw power makes it a force to be reckoned with, due to Adaptability and the very wide Normal-type movepool, and consequently, many sets are viable.
  • Double Dance, using Agility and Nasty Plot, is very threatening to teams without priority to revenge kill Porygon-Z, despite the fact that setting up can be difficult.
  • Choice Specs has obscene raw power as soon as it enters the battle, and with free switches provided will guarantee kills, being able to 2HKO even Specially Defensive Ferrothorn.
  • Using a Pixie Plate and Judgment allows Porygon-Z to threaten Sableye and its Mega, one of the most threatening checks to Porygon-Z.
  • Full Physical is generally not a recommended set, but Porygon-Z does have enough raw power to pull off a basic Fake Out + Extreme Speed set with physical attack investment rather than mixed.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ghost-types**: Most Ghost types in general, such as Gengar, Doublade, and Hoopa-C are very difficult for Porygon-Z to get around, and are generally strong switch-ins to Porygon-Z. Most of Porygon-Z's sets are easily walled by Sableye and its mega, due to Porygon-Z's inability to hit Sableye for super-effective damage or with its Adaptability boosted STABs.

**Fake Out + Extreme Speed**: Fake Out + Extreme Speed abusers, such as Stoutland, Ursaring, and Braviary, can come in and revenge kill Porygon-Z in almost all circumstances.

**Faster Pokemon and Choice Scarf users**: Landorus-T, Garchomp, and Keldeo can outspeed and KO Porygon-Z, while scarfed versions of such give Scarf Porygon-Z problems. Jirachi, Terrakion, and Tyranitar can switch in on one of Porygon-Z's weaker attacks, such as Fake Out, and force it out, or in the case of Tyranitar, Pursuit Trap Porygon-Z.

First just some spelling and grammar things to get out of the way:
- change all uses of 'FakeSpeed' to 'Fake Out + Extreme Speed', an accepted term. Literally find / replacing this should work fine
- refer to stats with capitals ('decent Attack stat') but not roles ('solid wallbreaker and revenge killer')
- actually just refer to the Spelling and Grammar Standards as much as you can in general

Overview
Hmm I don't think Porygon-Z's bulk can be described as 'somewhat poor', because honestly it's really bad in practice and Porygon-Z is KOed by most strong neutral attacks. Not sure if I'd use mitigate in this scenario, makes it sound like Porygon-Z is bad against offensive teams. Honestly Porygon-Z does have really good coverage in Thunderbolt / Ice Beam / Shadow Ball / Dark Pulse etc. but its main issue is finding moveslots for said moves so I'd reword that sentence. The biggest thing you need to do here is explain its access to Fake Out + Extreme Speed and what that does for it, and describe how Adaptability-boosted STAB attacks literally kill everything ever. Otherwise this seems nice and readable

Set 1
You should call this set 'Revenge Killer' imo as it describes the set's role nicely and Porygon-Z doesn't always have to run Work Up. Boomburst isn't really 'boosted' by 135 Special Attack, you can just say that it hits ridiculously, stupidly, absurdly hard because of Porygon-Z's 135 Special Attack. I'm not a big fan of Work Up by itself in the last slot hmm. People run other things, I remember afd running Dark Pulse and word running Baton Pass, you could probably slash Baton Pass since the momentum is neat and mention Dark Pulse or Shadow Ball for Ghost-types under Moves. Keep Work Up there but mention both SD and NP in Moves too, just go over it briefly.

Mention max Attack spreads with Naughty because they're nice for increased revenge killing prowess. Porygon-Z can run more Speed which you should add, such as 180 for neutral 80s and 188 for positive 70s such as Lord Volcanion. Sometimes that fast Boomburst is needed. Also it may seem dumbed down but Adaptability still has to be mentioned here

Usage Tips is nice, add something about or using Baton Pass or coverage on Ghost-types switch-ins if you add them to Moves

Volt Switch and Parting Shot users should be added under pivots. Mention Weavile as a Pursuit trapper. Fairy-types can deal with Fighting-types such as Terrakion too making them excellent partners, particularly Sylveon because of its own Fake Out + Extreme Speed.

Set 2
Yeah we already talked about the last largely-filler move which no one uses. How about Hidden Power Fire? Killing Ferrothorn and Scizor seems nice. Set should be reordered Boomburst / [Shadow Ball / Dark Pulse] / filler / Trick cause having Trick last is standard and cool and just good. As for actual benefits of Shadow Ball guess it hits Fairies harder than Dark Pulse and has solid neutral coverage although Dark Pulse's flinch chance is nice; it's totally up to personal preference I guess

Mention Choice Scarf and Adaptability

Add something about cleaning teams and always switching out of Fake Out + Extreme Speed users. Add that when special walls such as Chansey get annoying predict the switch and Trick for le ebin trole xd

Eh does Scizor really beat opposing special tanks? Things like Heatran and er Goodra I guess threaten it immensely. Add those other pivots that work for the other set. What Pokemon provide hazard control?

Other Options
Plate + Judgment deserves a mention

Mention all those utility Normal-type moves. Recover (even though its learned naturally) can boost longevity, Rapid Spin clears hazards, Explosion can murder something.

Checks and Counters
Put Sableye in Ghost-types but give it a prominent place or its own paragraph, and make sure to include Mega Sableye too since it's heavily relevant. The main thing here is expanding Fast Scarfers. Should be more like "Faster Pokemon" or "Faster Pokemon and Choice Scarf Users", with the above Landorus-T, Garchomp, Keldeo, etc. Then go into the ones that resist Normal as those are the ones that don't care about Fake Out + Extreme Speed much, such as Terrakion, Jirachi, Tyranitar (which can also Pursuit trap)

Honestly Porygon-Z is a really complicated Pokemon which I wouldn't have any idea how to go about writing an analysis for, and you've done a really solid job. If you disagree with any of these points feel free to reply but please don't just straight up ignore anything D:

Didn't bother mentioning 180 because there is really no reason not to add the extra 8 to outspeed Volcanion.

Hidden Power Fire is generally not worth the speed drop, and that's not to mention the fact that Boomburst 2hko's Ferro and Scizor if they don't invest specially. If they do, it's a 3hko; the former especially can't recover off the HP and clicking HP Fire at all holds a HUGE risk of giving your opponent free turns.

I meant that Scizor and Chansey are the type of Special Tanks that will try to deal with Porygon-Z, and having sponges for them would be helpful. That will probably be easily fixed when I do the writeup. Regardless, I changed the wording slightly to make it less confusing.

Other Options
Plate + Judgment deserves a mention

Mention all those utility Normal-type moves. Recover (even though its learned naturally) can boost longevity, Rapid Spin clears hazards, Explosion can murder something.
Eh, No can do with Recover because it's worthless, even Stall mons can 2hko Porygon-Z considering truly passive stall mons really don't exist in current STABmons.

comments in bold. not many because most of it was good

Also I probably never would've gotten this done if Unfixable didn't embarrass me, my comp doesn't detect my battery anymore and TWICE I unplugged my comp while working on this and lost all my progress because save edits apparently don't work. So yeah thanks.

Implemented and ready for QC 2/3

formerly The Reptile
you should edit the title friendo

Overview
  • You should probably not its monsterous Special Attack alongside Adaptability makes it very powerful
  • Also mention that, alongside its huge power, it also has boosting options in Agility and Nasty Plot
  • Unless something changed while I was sort of away, you can't end the overview on a high note
Boosting (add before Mixed Attacker)

should be

move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Boomburst
move 3: Ice Beam / Shadow Ball
move 4: Thunderbolt / Agility
item: Silk Scarf / Life Orb / Lum Berry
ability: Adaptability
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

RK (rename to Mixed Attacker)

Moves
  • Boomburst should be slot 1 followed by the FakeSpeed combo (Fake Out being move 3) - remember the main move of the set is Boomburst, not FakeSpeed.
  • The last moveslot (and this whole set tbh) needs to be reworked completely. Shadow Ball should definitely be last on that slot, maybe include Dark Pulse as a slash if you really want to. Work Up is honestly just trying to do way too much in one set, which gives the set way too many problems as you don't have the moveslots. I also feel like Work Up overall is just inferior to Nasty Plot - most of the time you don't need the +1 in attack to revenge kill properly (there are expections). Most of the time you're boosting against bulkier teams, in which case Nasty Plot is much better since you're blasting them with Boombursts. If you really want Nasty Plot to be on the set, you should slash it next to Fake Out - Trying to do FakeSpeed AND Boosting AND Boombursting is just wayy too much.
Set Details
  • You should also mention the main reason why this set works in the first place - it is one of the few mons that just does work against slow, stallish teams and offensive teams alike, as stallish teams don't like Boombust and offensive teams dont like FakeSpeed.
  • Also should be reworked to compensate for the new sets.
Usage Tips
  • Remove Work Up mention here.
  • Mention that it should be pivoted in by moves such as U-Turn and Volt Switch
  • Mention that, if Nasty Plot is used, it should only really be used against slower teams
Team Options
  • Mention sweepers that like having their walls busted. Examples include DD users like Zard-X and Garchomp and stuff like Serperior.

Choice Scarf

Moves

  • ExtremeSpeed should definitely not be here. The moveset should be something like Boomburst / BoltBeam / Trick, with Baton Pass slashed with Trick and Shadow Ball slashed with both parts of BoltBeam.
  • Won't touch on everything else since it seems alright outside of needing to be reajusted to have the new set
OO
  • Obviously remove Boosting from here - it is a set that is honestly really good and deserves its own set.
  • Mention Download + Baton Pass on the mixed and scarf set, although also mention that it is generally weaker than Adaptability in the long run.
  • Work Up can be mentioned here
  • Mention Foresight + Boomburst as a possible option to break through things like Mega Sableye without the need of Pixie Judgement
  • Also mention Fire- and Fighting Plates + Judgement to bust Steel-types (in the same bullet)
CnC
  • Replace Scarfers and FakeOut with "Revenge Killers"
  • Mention bulky Steel-types like M-Scizor
  • Mention Rock-types like M-Diancie, Terrakion, and TTar in general
  • Fighting-types should probably be mentioned last - things like Terrak (again), M-Loppuny, and Keldeo sound good to me.

Since there's a lot of reworking I can't really give a QC until I see it all. Porygon-Z is a very complex Pokemon.

That, or we can just wait to see if it gets banned from STABmons (which it probably will) before doing anything.

Will implement later. Will say that I relegated the double boosting set / nasty plot set because the work up set is straight up better in many regards. Nasty Plot is just overkill, as the calcs for +1 Boomburst can show; It's often much better to get that extra utility. I'm not really sure if I should make a new sest either.
