The First Wheneverual Safari Festival: Better Late Than Never

Lorak

*leekspin*
is an Artist Alumnus

Welcome, one and all, to the first wheneverual Safari Festival! The time of the harvest moon is near, and as that time comes, a time of great feasts and rejoicing, let us remember the battles we've won and lost, and the Pokemon that got us through them.

Let us all rise, for the presence of the Safari Queen, as she is escorted to the ceremony by her bodyguards, while we have a reading from the Book of the Oasis, chapter 42, verses 1 to 15.

Chapter 42
1. In the journeys of a trainer seeking to establish the traditions of the Safari Festival,
2. there was a trainer by the name of Lorak, who had sought the elite of the Safari Zone's denizens.
3. Lorak travelled far and wide, to the Safari Zones of Kanto, and of Hoenn.
4. And it was Lorak who later travelled to the Great Marsh of Sinnoh.
5. Lorak was a benevolent trainer, always releasing those Pokemon who did not believe they could take part in Lorak's planned tradition.
6. For a time, it was good, but Lorak soon lost sight of the planned festival, as others seemed to express little interest in the trainer's deeds.
7. But lo, Lorak was driven on by the presence of fortune, when they provided a sight to entice the trainer further.
8. Lorak soon gazed upon an alternate color Exeggcute, whose golden form fled after the trainer attempted to cast a Safari Ball at it.
9. And thus spoketh the Lorak, stating, "I shall take neither rest nor repose, until a prize as worth as the golden eggs are in my possession."
10. For three days and three nights, this trainer worked, pushing the laws of physics to their boundaries.
11. The trainer co-operated with another, with a different set of circumstances that brought each to the Safari Zone.
12. It was then that Lorak found the matriarch of Kanto's Safari Zone, the Safari Queen.
13. Lo, and it was Lorak who humbly requested the Queen's presence to reside over this lowly Festival, and she who granted Lorak the request.
14. And thus, the third Safari Ball had been cast.
15. Thrice rocked the Ball, and the Queen graced Lorak with her presence.

It is this way that we find the Queen at our ceremony today. The joey in her pouch has grown, in all ways like her mother, as is her offspring. and the princess wishes to grace another trainer with her presence.

Naïve #115 Kangaskhan: 28 / 30 / 24 / 28 / 17 / 23
Moves: Body Slam, Fire Punch, Ice Punch, ThunderPunch
Lv. 28, UT, caught in: Safari Ball
Ability: Early Bird (No Scrappy Kangaskhan in Kanto ;-;)
NON-REDISTRIBUTABLE.

Yes, that is a shiny Kangaskhan, and yes, it's finally available to the public as a prize, the first one to be offered for use by someone other than myself. Currently unEVed... actually, completely untouched and untrained, other than those lovely four Battle Frontier moves. It took a very long while to earn all the points to teach it those moves, but in the end, I have a lovely, entirely legit prize for the person who becomes the first wheneverual Safari Festival champion.
Likewise, the offspring of her most loyal bodyguards wish to accompany the four greatest trainers of this tournament.

M Hasty #216 Teddiursa: 31 / 31 / 10 / 5 / 31 / 26
(Evolves to Guts in Sinnoh)
Lv. 36, UT, caught in: Safari Ball
Moves: Counter, Ice Punch, ThunderPunch, Fire Punch
NON-REDISTRIBUTABLE.

Prizes for the top four. Hooray. :D
Rules:
0. 16 participants is the current max. If more interest is expressed, this will be increased to 32.
1. Battles will be conducted in a Singles Battle format, 6v6, with Pokémon up to level 50 permitted.
2. All Pokémon must be captured from the Safari Zone or Great Marsh of any third- or fourth-generation Pokémon game (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen, Diamond, or Pearl).
3. As a direct result of Rule 2, no Pokémon may have Egg Moves, or be in any ball other than a Safari Ball. Moves learned from Move Tutors are permitted, such as any third-generation game learning moves from the Battle Frontier Move Tutors. Moves learned by TM or HM are also permitted, as are level-up moves learned at level 50 or before.
4. Pokémon caught in a third-generation game and evolved in that game are not permitted to have fourth-generation abilities. Likewise, Pokémon that do not evolve and come from a third-generation game must not have a fourth-generation ability. (Pokémon caught in a third-generation game and evolved in a fourth-generation game are permitted to have fourth-generation abilities, should the ability switch upon evolving.) The following are thus not permitted in this tournament: Miltank with Scrappy, Pinsir with Mold Breaker, Scyther with Technician, Shuckle with Gluttony, Stantler with Frisk, Tauros with Anger Point.
5. Although available in the Safari Zone of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, Wobbuffet is not permitted to be a member of any team taking place in the tournament. Although available in the Safari Zone of FireRed and LeafGreen, Chansey and Blissey are not permitted to be a member of any team taking place in the tournament. Dragonite, a Pokémon that evolves from Dragonair at level 55, is also not permitted, as a result of rule 1; despite an event that has a level 50 Dragonite, that is not able to be caught. Finally, Gyarados has been proven to be an unbalanced force within these rules, and has also been excluded from usage.
6. No two Pokémon may hold the same item, (Item Clause.) nor can they be "luck items", (Hax Item Clause.) except, up to two Leftovers or Black Sludge may be held, but no more than three of the combined two items.
7. No two Pokémon may be of the same species. (Species Clause.) Previous and alternate evolutions are permitted.
8. You may not choose a move that would intentionally put more than one of your opponent's Pokémon to Sleep. (Sleep Clause) Likewise, no one-hit KO moves (OHKO Clause).
9. The tournament style will be “Single Elimination Format”.
10. All matches are to be played on Wi-Fi, as a direct result of rule 2.
11. Only Pokémon legally caught in Safari Balls, in the Safari Zone, are eligible, as a direct result of rule 2.
12. Use of the Pomeg glitch to circumnavigate any issue is forbidden. Likewise, usage of game-altering devices in methods to capture the Pokemon is forbidden, although things like infinite Rare Candies are quite fine.
13. As always, pairing will be random.
14. I will take a slot in the tournament only in the event that one slot remains to be filled, and no further people seem to express interest.
15. Platinum moves/tutors are not allowed on Pokemon that do not: 1. come caught from third-gen, and 2. cannot learn that move or those moves from tutors in the third-gen. Sorry. D: To clarify, since this doesn't seem to be getting through, pretend Platinum doesn't exist. It's only being used as a tool to teach third-gen move tutors to third-gen-caught Pokemon.
16. Do not use a self KO move when it's 1 vs 1 to force a tie, in that event, the user of the self-ko move loses. (Last Self-KO Clause)
17. Evasion Clause, with Acupuncture allowed.
18. The following games are allowed for origins of Safari Ball-caught Pokemon: Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen, Diamond, Pearl.

What I would *like* to do is have an unbiased hack-checker check each of the entrants' Pokemon, but that would be horribly time-consuming, and might not even catch some hacks, as is the lovely inevitability of Wi-Fi. So, if I don't enter this, as in we have 16 contestants, I'd like the entrants to PM me their team with moves, natures, exact IVs, etc.

Handy reference time!

____

The tournament bracket will be generated at some point... in the future.
EDIT: Probably on November 14th. Likewise, it'll probably be November 21st at the latest that we start the tournament proper, seeing as most people will... well, need to catch some Pokemon to use in this!

Prize donations are accepted, presuming they're entirely legit (aside from cloning), from some Safari Zone or Great Marsh and in a Safari Ball.

And... here they are!

Second place prize, donated by negator:
Gliscor - Safari ball
Jolly - Hyper Cutter
31/27/27/18/29/31

Hmm, I think I will have wifi by then, and I think this could be an interesting tourney. However you're doing it on top of Jimbo's/Kagy's =/

Yeah, so I know, but I'd been waiting two months, reminded Sonuis I was waiting, and got as a response:
Oh crap-crap. I am so-so-so sorry. Go run this now (or when you're ready).
wow
im gonna have to start catching pokemon now :/
i want in if i can get a team in time?
Righto.

Would it be best if I put each deadline off by another week, everyone, join deadline by Nov. 14, and start by the 21st?

yea you should put the join date a week more
gives more time and all since im gonna have to start doing this now :/

makes me wish i didn't release my jolly drapion i used in-game :/

Seeing how this is actually taking place now, and not just a discussion, people might be more motivated to play in it (like myself) so I'll try and complete the task of putting a team together, but no promises, I'll post again if I manage to do so.

Alright, so evolutions are allowed then? Like roserade etc.

Also, you may even want to give MORE time. Between thinking of the team, catching for nature/IVs and ev training, this takes a looooooong time.

21st eh? I should be able to join then if I arse myself to catch some safari stuff. I do already have one safari poke that is quite amazing though and should be useful

don't be a homo and do that -_-
catch them the real way
and i think lorak will say no since he is an anti-AR kinda guy :p

hmm... very interesting...
i want to try this...
i will work hard to assemble a team but don't mark my name down cause i am not sure if i can make a team in time or not...

i wish i had a more "compatable" time zone :( this would be heaps of fun!! having said that, how long will each round last? if it was say a week, i might be able to join.

also, there are two verse 6's ;) otherwise, i loved the quote from "scripture" - can i refer to you as "the lorak" now?

I was thinking a week, or maybe 9 days.

Fixed, and thanks! Sure, why not. :V

Well I love battling. So I'm gonna go hunting now.

Way to keep Wifi fun Lorak!

Can we put Platinum tutors on pokemon?
