Hello, laddies and gentleman, totor is back with a heavy offensive toxic spikes team. I have started playing pokemon since DPP, and i have always used teams based on residuals dammage to ladder. I remember the combo of tyranitar+excadrill which was the start of all of my teams in BW and some players such as "croas", "dracomaster sasha", "mysterion", "donkey", "go10","private" in PO server. Around the half of BW's period i started laddering in PS server. I can remember a sand team with ferro / powdown / ho-oh/ water arceus / excadrill / giratina which was peaked first at this time, as well as the full baton pass team of daenys in XY. This XY generation reduces the number of turns of sandstorm, making more difficult to abuse sand combos in ubers. At this time i considered an other form of residual dammage : toxic spikes. I was watching many replays of sweep and peculiarly his stall rain with gira-o/ tentacruel / ferrothorn/ omastar / psy arceus/ kyogre defensive. This helps me understand how Toxic Spikes is very threatening in XY Ubers and it is the same in ORAS Ubers : constant damage from poison increases pressure on defensive teams to stay healthy as well as the pressure on dangerous set up sweepers in Ubers. making them easier to weaken and revenge kill. Take advatage of this boon into an offensive team has been a real challenge for me and even with the ideas provided by other players, i took one year to build my own team (one can watch "totor returns" and "senor totor" replays on PS server).

znu9tz.pngznu9tz.pngznu9tz.pngznu9tz.pngIntroductionznu9tz.pngznu9tz.pngznu9tz.png znu9tz.png
The particularity of this team is to show how sub cm ghost arceus, an underrated set can be deadly by its own. This surprise factor helps me a lot in somewhat risky situations (replays section). I have reached the 4 th place on the ladder with 1849 points thaks to this team. At first glance, for the opponent, this team seems to be standard with an e -killer as always, but the only fact that sub cm ghost arceus is here make it superior and requires more experience to choose when arceus typing has to been revealed.
I have already seen pokemon has a chess game. No exceptions will be made here with : cloyster the pawn ; primal Groudon, the Rook; deoxys-a, the bishop; arceus ghost, the Knight; mega salamence, the King and xerneas, the Queen. Set the toxic spikes and the stealth rock as soon as possible thanks to the pawn and the Rook, weaken opponents by forcing switches for paving the way to our set up sweepers : the knight and the king and our revenge killers the bishop and the Queen. This strategy is the key of the success of the team! So let's come into the Scottish castle to better discover the protagonists!

znu9tz.pngznu9tz.pngznu9tz.pngTeam building process znu9tz.pngznu9tz.pngznu9tz.png

I wanted to build a toxic spikes team around substitute calm mind ghost arceus and to put a lot of pressure offensively : hence the choice of cloyster has a toxic setter. In return Ghost arceus provides spinblocking ability versus some spinners stay available : smeargle, excadrill, the rare foretress and tentacruel. In addition Toxic Spikes help pressure support Arceus formes (peculiarly water, dragon) to force them to Recover and subsequently allow Ghost Arceus to get a Calm Mind boost and then a Substitute.

cloyster.gif arceus-ghost.gif
I had a huge weakness to dark and i needed a reliable answer versus darkrai which is in most teams and a setter of stealth rock. Mega Diancie checks Darkrai and Yveltal reliably, sets Stealth Rock and act as an effective anti-lead to Deoxys-S, Darkrai and sleep leads. Thanks to protect and bounce ability it can take advantage of toxic spikes damage and can bounce back hazards and status which is useful in stal against walls such as lugia.
cloyster.gif arceus-ghost.gif diancie-mega.gif
I needed a wall to deal with strong physical threats such as ho_oh, e-killer, mega kangourex, mega salamence ... In addition i run u turn +toxic to place my teammates in order to force switches and cripple common switch-ins like fairies or flying mons respectively.

cloyster.gif arceus-ghost.gifyveltal.gifdiancie-mega.gif
A strong offensive mon was required to deal with stall better: sword dance primal don fits this role very good and can puts major holes in many team at middle or late game. Primal groudon benefits from mega diancie's ability to threaten Darkrai and Yveltal. In return primal groudon deals with annoying steels like aegislash ferrothorn skarmory dialga, klefky.

cloyster.gif arceus-ghost.gifyveltal.gifdiancie-mega.gifprimal groudon.gif
A priority mon, a second breaker of stall which can severely dents pokemons like primals, defensive arceus forms is very appreciable to abuse of cthe toxic spikes provided by cloyster. Deoxys-a fulfills those roles. In addition, it benefits from ghost arceus absorbing common normal priorities and slow u-turn yveltal to come on the battlefield. This is the first version of the team, with cloyster, the pawn ; primal Groudon, the Rook; deoxys-a, the bishop; arceus ghost, the Knight; mega salamence, the King and xerneas, the Queen.
cloyster.gif primal groudon.gif arceus-ghost.gif deoxys-attack.gif yveltal.gif diancie-mega.gif
A second version has been considered to test the synergy with scarf xerneas and mega mence with the other members; those changes drop Yveltal the King of taking physical hits to mega salamence, the King of ubers and mega diancie, the Queen of stones to xerneas, the Queen of scarf in Ubers. Xerneas provides more speed and special power at the cost of staying a target for primal groudon as well as diancie is and oppening a room for ho-oh which both are countered by Mega salamence. As special Ghost Arceus really struggles against ho_oh, it synergizes well with mega salamence which can even grab a burn on the switch and proceed to sweep thanks to facade. In return ghost arceus checks strong special sweepers such as lati@s, giratina-o, and lugia and skarm and can set substitute in face of water, dragon, rock arceus ones of his biggest threats. Primal Groudon helps sub Calm Mind Ghost arceus’ placement by providing stealth rock support.

Now we expose the set details of the second version of this toxic spikes team. As the two versions has fourth same sets the reader can refer to both this section and the previous one if he attempts to experiment he first version. So let's me teach you the rules of this peculiar chess game.

Ability: Skill Link

Jolly Nature
znu9tz.png- Toxic Spikes znu9tz.png
- Icicle Spear
- Rapid Spin
- Shell Smash

Dream_Focus_Sash_Sprite.png Main role Dream_Focus_Sash_Sprite.png
The pawn is the toxic spikes setter the rapid spinner and a potentially sweeper if it can get a free shell mash boost. Usually used as a lead, it is one of the most offensively-oriented toxic spikes setter in the uber metagame and requires prediction and very aggressive play in order to keep the field free of entry hazards : switch directly into potential entry hazard setters such as primal groudon dialga in order to preserve the focus sash and to proceed to spin. In addition The pawn has to deal as much damage as possible to those bulky hazards setter to the point where deoxys-a can reliably ko them and preventing entry hazards from being set up. Nevertheless, this hazards work essentially when at least half of the opponent team is grounded : the dominance of p don increases the use of flying and levitate mons, and in the absence of poison mons suchs as scolipede, toxic arceus, mega gengar, tentacruel. In that case cloyster is not useless and can be used at a potent sweeper.

Dream_Focus_Sash_Sprite.png Specific traits Dream_Focus_Sash_Sprite.png
The pawn is typically used as a lead which can beat most opposing entry hazard leads, such as Deoxys-S and Deoxys-A, sash exca or suicide leads : rayq sash, or can outspeed and wear down bulky entry hazard setters such as Primal Groudon or Dialga for the next Pokemon to take them out. He has to watch for sleep leads such as Darkrai and Smeargle, or entry hazard setters that can beat it, such as the rare Forretress and tentacruel. The pawn can deals with common deffogers such as lati@s, gira and gira-o, but it struggles against bulky Defoggers that can shrug off its STAB, such as defensive Arceus forms (steel, water pogre) and Scizor.

Dream_Focus_Sash_Sprite.png Moves and ev’s Dream_Focus_Sash_Sprite.png
Icicle Spear is a ice STAB attack, with 125 base power thanks to as Skill Link and it has good coverage in Ubers, dealing super effective damage to Giratina giratina-o ,the most common spinblockers and defoggers. Shell Smash allows The pawn to aggressively pressure the opposing team provided its main checks are over, but Explosion can be used to pseudo-spinblock or to deal damage to Pokemon such as p-Kyogre or water arceus.
Maximum Attack and Speed investment alongside a jolly nature allow The pawn to optimally fulfill its role, by outpacing bulky entry hazard users and walls sucha s lugia, even the entire unboosted metagame after a shell mash boost. Focus Sash is the item of a suicide lead : it helps spinning or win a turn of setup against faster, more powerful foes. At least, it also lets The pawn acts as an emergency check to dangerous setup sweepers such as Mega Salamence, landorus therian, and Geomancy Xerneas.

- Precipice Blades
- Dragon Tail
- Lava Plume

Dream_Red_Orb_Sprite.png Main Role: Dream_Red_Orb_Sprite.png
The Rook's role is to set up Stealth Rock reliably (it can be used as a lead when half of the opponent's team is immune to toxic spikes) ,to apply offensive pressure by forcing switches, checking xerneas and annoying steels.

Dream_Red_Orb_Sprite.pngSpecific Traits: Dream_Red_Orb_Sprite.png
Thanks to its versatility, and great offensive capacities, The Rook sets Stealth Rock reliably. This Rook is as mandatory in all teams as the castle towers' are. As a Xerneas check The Rook perfoms well : the special defense investment let it take any hit from Xerneas evn after stealth rock damage and he retaliates with a pothe werful Precipice Blades provided you hasn't missed. In this process The Rook paves the way for the bishop's Extreme Speed to revenge kill Xerneas. The Rook is also a decent check to Primal Kyogre, because it can switch in and threaten it with Precipice Blades while not taking a huge amount of damage from Ice Beam.

Dream_Red_Orb_Sprite.pngMoves and EVs: Dream_Red_Orb_Sprite.png
Precipice Blades is The Rook's strongest STAB attack, despite his accuracy. Dragon Tail synergizes well with Toxic Spikes, shuffling the opposing team and spreading poison while also allowing The Rook to phaze setup sweepers : arceus formes special and physical mega mence, and gets crucial chip damage on Defoggers such as Latios, Latias, and Giratina-O on the switch. Stealth Rock is mandatory on every team and it enables the team to break through defensive threats such as Lugia more easily. 84 Speed EVs allow The Rook to outspeed neutral-natured, uninvested base 100 Speed Pokemon. 176+ atk is a good benchmark to put xerneas into range of the bishop's espeed after hazards damage The rest : 248 ev's goes into Special Defense to allow The Rook to take hits from Xerneas and Primal Kyogre better. The EV spread lives a Draco Meteor from Timid Latios at full HP. Lava Plume is the safest move to deal with steels and to prevent miss predictions. The 30% chance of burn can torments devoted counters such as mega sableye, lugia or yveltal and can discourage switch-ins like Landorus-Therian.

SubstituteG4b.png -Substitute SubstituteG4b.png
- Calm Mind
- Judgment
- Focus Blast

Dream_Spooky_Plate_Sprite.pngMain role Dream_Spooky_Plate_Sprite.png
After the pawn’s duty is achieved, the knight provides spinblocking ability, takes care of common levitate defoggers and forces switches. As a bonus he provides the team a middle or late game sweeper on condition that his checks are over.

Dream_Spooky_Plate_Sprite.png Specific traitsDream_Spooky_Plate_Sprite.png
A good way to set an effective substitute is to forces switches, provided all checks to The Knight are over, especially darkceus, yveltal darkrai. Under substitute it can kills darkrai with focus blast. Some targets of The Knight are bronzong, aegislash, lati@s, giratina-o, lo mewtwo, mega mewtwo-X, mega luke. In addition, he can be used to dammage dialga, skarmory which keeps off some pressure on The Rook devoted to kill annoying steels. Against stall team substitute over a status move and set up calm mind this mon can deal with waterceus, lugia (if multiscale is broken), giratina provided the pink blocks (be carefull of snatch) are over. You have to analyse when arceus ghost will be the most effective : generally it is at middle or late game sweep.

Dream_Spooky_Plate_Sprite.pngMoves and ev’sDream_Spooky_Plate_Sprite.png
Calm Mind Allows The Knight to boost its Special Attack and Special Defense simultaneously, providing it with potential to sweep while making it harder for special attackers to break through. Judgment is a reliable 120-Base Power STAB move thanks to spooky plate, and Focus Blast provides The Knight with perfect coverage, notably allowing it to hit Extreme Killer Arceus and Kangaskhan while denting switch-ins such as Tyranitar or darkrai. Substitute helps protect The Knight from crippling status moves such as Thunder Wave and Toxic, will o wisp (the two latters put a timer to his sweep); the move can also be used to help counteract or even scout for aggressive play, which is generally much safer than just firing off Focus Blast.
Maximum HP and Speed EVs alongside a Timid nature give The Knight good bulk and let it ties with opposing Arceus formes such as Extreme Killer Arceus and defensive ones.

Dream_Life_Orb_Sprite.pngMain roleDream_Life_Orb_Sprite.png
Despite of the obvious bishop's frailty, he is an outrageous mix sweeper, stall breaker, late-game cleaner, and a revenge killer all in one. His fearsome power is behind most wins. Hence his name.

Dream_Life_Orb_Sprite.pngSpecific traitsDream_Life_Orb_Sprite.png
Send out teammates to weaken opposing threats, then bring out The bishop to KO the rest with Psycho Boost or the appropriate move : thanks to his speed and his raw power increased by life orb effect, it can dig depth gap in stall teams. The fearsome bishop's power causes many switches : priority users such as e-killer, giratina-o yveltal ; scarf users like xerneas, what synergizes well with both toxic spikes and stealth rock.

Dream_Life_Orb_Sprite.pngMoves and ev’sDream_Life_Orb_Sprite.png
Its main STAB move, Psycho Boost, puts a major dent into every Pokémon that isn't a Dark-, Psychic-, or Steel-type. Superpower deals with darkrai handles and is a good coverage alongside psycho boost. Ice Beam is the safest move to spam if misspredicting is a concern, it punishes the Flying- and Dragon-types in the tier, most notably Yveltal on the switch and Mega Salamence and it deals a good amount of damage to common defoggers such as specially defensive Giratina, Latios and Latias and the rare lugia.
Max SpA alongside life orb is required to hit as hard as possible at the cost of speed : 236 Spe EVs allow the bishop to outspeed positive base 130 Pokemon, most notably Mega Gengar and Mega Mewtwo X, lo mewtwo and darkrai. The rest goes in Atk to slightly increase the power of extreme speed and superpower. To give you an idea extreme speed'bishop does the same damage as extreme speed' jolly lo e-killer.

Dream_Salamencite_Sprite.png Main roleDream_Salamencite_Sprite.png
This king fulffils many roles: sweeper, stall breaker, status absorber, revenge killer, ho-oh counter and the ground immunity

Dream_Salamencite_Sprite.png Specific traitsDream_Salamencite_Sprite.png
Firstly, the king supports the team by taking hits from physical threats like luke mega, kanga mega, e-killer, ho-oh ... and in return he can retaliate thanks to his sheer power or even set up if need be.
Indeed, against offensive and balance teams you have to create a set up opportunity thanks to intimidate in order to sweep, or paving the way for the knight to set up or for the queen and the bishop for revenge killing. Rather than revenge killing it as offensive teams does, stall and balance teams use damaging status as their win condition, which force it to sacrifiate his coverage move like earthquake to run facade in order to not become useless. Thus, you have to take a burn in order to be the most effective possible, because toxic puts a timer to his sweep. Thunder wave is the most annoying of those because mega salamence has to rely on luck to abuse of facade.

Dream_Salamencite_Sprite.png Moves and ev’sDream_Salamencite_Sprite.png
Dragon Dance and Roost allow The King to set up throughout the match making it a massive threat, which is a very solid wincon with bulk investment. Frustration alongside aerilate ability is the most reliable flying move The King can use without any drawbacks and is very useful when The King has set up repeatedly. In addition most ditto have 255 happiness. Facade takes advantage of a status based metagame making the king more threatening.
The bulk : 200 hp coupled with great base Defense of 130 let it survive +2 extreme speed from e killer and tank cb brave bird from ho-oh after intimidate them and in return with 132 atk he can 2ohko them. 176 Speed EVs is there to outpace 252 EV invested base 90 Speed Pokemon prior to Mega Evolving and outpace positive base 110s like lati@s... after mega evolving.

Dream_Choice_Scarf_Sprite.pngMain roleDream_Choice_Scarf_Sprite.png
This Queen fulfills two roles : counter dark pokemons such as (darkrai, yveltal, dark arceus, mega sableye) and a revenge killer.

Dream_Choice_Scarf_Sprite.pngSpecific traitsDream_Choice_Scarf_Sprite.png
The Queen takes advantage of her dragon immunity to switch on draco meteor from the like of Latios, Latias, Giratina-O, and surprise them : they stay in thinking xerneas is a geomancy set. She has to switch on Yveltal (be careful on oblivion wing), and Mega Sableye too . Bluffing the geomancy set is the key of success to make those targets in confidence. Moonblast allows The Queen to deal immediatly significant damage to Pokemon even when unboosted, wearing down foes even further in conjunction with Toxic Spikes. The Choice Scarf item, allows The Queen to revenge kill threats such as Darkrai, Mewtwo, Shaymin-S, Deoxys-A, and weakened Arceus formes.

Dream_Choice_Scarf_Sprite.pngMoves and ev’sDream_Choice_Scarf_Sprite.png
248 Special Attack EVs with a Modest nature are used to maximize the damage output of Moonblast, better allowing Xerneas to revenge kill weakened threats and chip away at Pokemon such as Primal Groudon. 228 Speed EVs are used to outspeed +1 Rayquaza and Kyurem-W and scarf xerneas who commonly run 224. 32 EVs are slotted to Defense to ensure that Genesect gets a Special Attack boost from Download. At least, Geomancy is used for the odd case that you get Knocked Off by Yveltal. Thus, taking advantage of the lack of the Choice Scarf item seems to be natural for your opponent. Don't forget the fact that you don't have mental herb : geomancy is a two turn set up move, so forces a switch to fully abuse of this surprise factor is highly recommended.

aegislash.gif

aegislash : by far a biggest threat

It annoys a lot the Knight and the Rook and even the king whith the combination of toxic + king's shield which grabs toxic dammages and can decrease atk. Setting hazards to limit switches whit its teammates and aggressevly play is required to get even chip dammage on it.

the thunder wave version forces primal don to switch in and it can kill it with draco meteor paving the way for a go xerneas to sweep you have to set up substitute on the drop of spa and proceed to set up cm. The roar version is annoying in lead position u have to place each time cloyster once it can set hazards and damage it in order to let deoxys-a to revenge kill it.

Rayquaza can threaten key members such as Primal Groudon, and can 2 ohko mega salamnce on the switch (be carefull of the mix variant)

Alright, this team is pretty similar to a build i've been using so I'm gonna give it a rate;

Stall matchup looks quite rough for this team especially with Scarf Xerneas, you can use the Rest Talk GeoXern set over Scarf here pretty easily, giving you a solid end game answer against stall builds and still achieves the compromise against Darkrai and your build accomodates Deoxys-attack which is gonna be leading against Darkrai squads anyways and you already have an adequate offense matchup with these kinds of builds, GeoXern also gives the team another potent winning condition next to Ghostceus.

I would really run a Roar over Dragon Tail on primal Groudon. this kind of has little GeoXern counterplay and you need Groudon to roar out GeoXern that have setup, I would also run a bulkier spread with HP investment to help deal with Salamence that try to setup as well and counter sweep your team.

I also think SD Arceus Ghost is something I feel is superior on this kind of build, especially with the Geoxern change, to help out with removing Extreme Killer Arceus even more and I feel it is more of a potent win condition late game compared to Sub CM for these kind of hyper offense builds, it also provides the team with additional priority (extreme speed), which will provide useful in some situations; while breaking Ho-oh esque Balances more effectively. (set provided below)

Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 104 HP / 96 Def / 252 SpA / 56 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Geomancy
- Moonblast
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 248 HP / 200 SpD / 60 Spe
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Precipice Blades
- Lava Plume
- Roar

Arceus-Ghost @ Spooky Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Force
- Brick Break
- Extreme Speed

Aside from this the team structure is very solid and has a well thought out building process not much else to say really, one final suggestion I can make is Double Edge over Frustration for a increase of power inexchange for recoil damage to pick up some notable KO's or 2HKOs when not statused to abuse Facade on Mega Salamence to provide your team with a more effective wallbreaker to pave a path for your winning conditions.

Good luck with your team!

Thanks for denoting the solid team structure of my team.
I really like your suggestions : at least i meet someone who recognizes the tough difficulty to deal with stall and gives me a way to solve this issue. Playing mind games to get your mega mence statused in order to put holes in the stall opponent team has worked against average players. Then deo-a can achieve some crucial ko's thanks to his voverage.

I have already used physical Arceus ghost in previous versions. When ghost arceus checks are over, the physical version lets me touch annoying steels that heavily invest in sdef such as aegislash, bronzong and the likes the one hand whereas the special form enjoys set up on ferro and dialga lead (be careful of roar though) threatens then and others like skarm, foretress, one the other hand which keeps off some pressure on primal don to deals with them. The two turn attack : shadow force, forces switches (be carefull of barbs and rocky helmet though) which synergyzes well with toxic spikes. However the combo ho-oh + yveltal tank is still being threatenning. To fully counter most versions of ho-oh, the physical ghost ceus needs a set up before otherwise he could be useless because of a burn, providing rocks are not up. Note that shadow claw don't dammage it enough in the case of rocks are up. In the case of u can manage to get a boost the opponent just have to switch in yveltal tank mostly paired with ho-oh, in order to make this opportunity useless.

Both versions of ghost arceus are soft e -killer check : the physical one rely on the weak brick break even after boosts ; the special one 2 ohko it with the unreliable focus blast move. Nevertheless, if running e- speed i lose the immediate pressure i could put on defoggers like lati@s and giratina-o very common which heavily invests in defense nowadays. In that case, sub cm ghost ceus can dammage them directly. To my mind, special ghost with xern plus mixers primal don and deo-a plus physical sweepers cloyster and m-mence provide this team a good balanced offensive build which is the wealth of my build.

As those previous targets enjoys coming in primal groudon to defog and physical ghost arceus can't touch them immediatly, i really think that dragon tail > roar to punish them as well as mega mence and ho _oh : Roar lets ho-oh regains health. Thanks to dragon tail i deal with those targets faster and the faster i will be able to safely put my rocks and /or toxic spikes. Even with cmghostceus to deal with the latters, dragon tail has proven to be an effective weapon up to lead to the conclusion that this move is the base of many of my wins.

You took a defensive approach to deal with geo xern but with the huge need of dragon tail i think Primal groudon is most devoted to sacrifice himself against geo xerneas after damaging her the most possible and revenge her with deo-a for instance, and i can manage to kill mega mence with geo xern deo-a and even my own : assuming i have not evolved yet i can tank two unboosted frustrations.
I have already tried the defensive variant : he needs roar because he doesn't deal the needed damage for my revenge killers, and roar only advantages over dragon tail is to not let your geo xern opponent to take advantage of your precipice blades miss and to phaze sub mons who attempts to sweep like the rare sub mega mence.

Thus, i think the offensive one fills better here. If running physical ghostceus, the lost bulk on sub cm ghost arceus goes to geo xerneas. I will try a more offensive spread on cm ghostceus paired with ur geoxern set which provides me an effective status absorber something the team really need even with the presence of facade mence versus stall match-ups.

Double-edge is good to transform 2 ohko to one at the cost of losing the invested bulk to counter e killer and the likes.

At least, i know the rest talk xern is not as effective as the scarf set : for the first one u have to bluff a scarf set and u are heavily taunt weak, u can be unlucky because of sleep talk hax ; for the second u can wake up soon like the previous one : this is really diturbing your strategy because it offers your opponent a free turn to dig gaps in your team.

But as u noticed the geo set is recommended versus stall, hence the compromise u
mentionned. http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ubers-445461263
So i think, u want this xern to absorb the void on the switch and double switch to deo-a on the np tour for instance to revenge kill darkrai, or u can manage to stay in and u have to pray the god of hax.

I have tried your changes which make me to win an uber double elimination tour:
