The ice man brings his favorite mammoth into the mud: Its_A_Random vs. Glacier Knight

Why did I take this reffing job, it was quite unnecessary of me... oh hey, I've been here before! I had to wash my clothes repeatedly to get all the damn mud out. Anyway, let's get to the rules and whatnot:

4v4 Doubles (IAR brings 8, chooses 4)

Arena=Earth Mausoleum
Arena: Earth Mausoleum
Field Type: Ground
Complexity: Intense
Format: All

Restrictions: No Natural Grass, Only Sandstorm & Clear weather permitted, Poorly-lit Indoor arena

Description: The Earth Mausoleum is a dark, desolate place inside a cave situated in a remote desert about 6km from the nearest city. At the entrace, you must proceed down a tunnel that is fairly dark, but is loaded to the gills with harmless Ground Type Pokemon, predominately Hippopotas & Sandshrew, even the occasional Garchomp lurking about the place. After your short walk through a prescribed route, you walk into a large, fairly well lit indoors arena, that looked very dull, but one thing's obvious; This was a Ground Type Paradise...
This arena has virtually the same dimensions as the ASB Tournament arena, but with a few differences. Firstly, the arena has mini-grandstands at the side, & the trainers stand on a Podium elevated up by 3 metres. Lastly, the arena ceiling is rather low at only 20m high.
Now, what does this arena have that gives Ground Types an edge? Firstly, The main arena floor is a hybrid of sand & dirt, mixed together to make a strange material that can easily be dug into. Additionally, the ceiling is low & creates a completely indoor feel, where Moves that require sunlight, like Solarbeam, & all other weathers bar Clear & Sandstorm, fail. Additionally, Pokemon using Sky Drop/Fly/Bounce fail to gain enough altitude to evade, that is, they become a normal attack. Next, there is a fairly large mud patch near the centre of the arena at about 10 metres in diameter, & goes to about 10 metres deep. This mud patch has a little bit of water in it, but enough to be considered an external water source, but in using it, the attack becomes combined with mud & becomes a Ground Type Attack. Additionally, anyone using the patch to dive are still vulnerable to seismic moves & get hit for double power.
Being a Ground Type paradise, how will the average player fare? We shall see soon enough...

Mechanics:
-Mud patches around the arena have enough water to be considered usable as an external Water Source.
--However, all the mud means that such attacks become Ground Type moves.
--Moves using these Mud Patches are also treated as Water-Type Moves for the purposes of Abilities such as Storm Drain.
--Pokemon hiding in Mud Patches, while retaining the normal properties of Dive (Bar Typing), is also treated as the move: Dig, for the purposes of moves like Earthquake, Earth Power, etc
-Sky Drop, Fly, & Bounce all work like they normally do, but they do not gain enough altitude to successfully evade attacks.

Summary: Ground Type Paradise.

This place is just so dirty... normally I wouldn't mind, but this is my favorite shirt and everything! Oh well, I should know what I'm getting into when I get greedy for UC. Anyway, to the teams!

Resultingly it feels it can weather every strike, and will not dodge an attack even if ordered to. Only when a OHKO move is issued by the opponent does sense return, and the Pokemon acts normally. Additionally even with their extra skill, the power and exhaustion involved in using OHKO moves prevents them from being benefited by No Guard, they will have their normal accuracy.

He was thrilled that a seemingly tropical island contained such icy extents. after going deep within the caverns there was a sudden crash! some belligerent fool in the cavern above was pushing boulders down holes! the sudden crashes caused the floor to break, and without warning Glacier fell into the icy torrents in the lower most floor. with very bad athletic abilities Glacier didnt last long, and quickly fell into unconsciousness.

when he woke up Glacier was inside a small crevice in the seafoam caves. cold and wet, he turned to his side to see a small but valiant shellder. Ever since that fateful rescue, Drake has been close to Glacier's heart. With wit and clever attacks Drake can change the tides o the match, and can even surprise opponents.

This looks like a pretty tough group of Pokemon! I would say something about Rock Slide destroying glaciers, but it seems that won't be too much of an issue against these four. (I put $50 on one of you two but I won't say who... Glacier don't let me down!!!!)

I'll use the same quarter I used last time I was here to determine who sends out first. There's still mud on it. Of course. Anyway, heads, leader; tails, challenger:

All Pokemon look ready for battle, and there already seems to be sand (somewhat wet sand nonetheless just to ruin my shirt, pants and day) flying around like crazy. None of the Pokemon seem to mind, besides Nolan, but even he hardly cares. Glacier Knight seems to be a lot more enthusiastic than how I remember the last challenger, I wonder if he'll keep that up [/foreshadow]. Nolan starts the match by using his greener-than-usual blade-arms to slash Stortamus. Somehow, Iron Chain is the next to make a move, who charges at Truffles and slams into him with great force, head first. Truffles immediately takes some Glacierness from his master and BASHES STORTAMUS IN THE GODDAMN FACE. Stortamus then BASHES TRUFFLES WITH FANCY FIGHTING MOVES. IN THE GODDAMN FACE. Nolan once again is the first to move in a new round of attacks, and is boring with move spam. I think we all expected better of you, Glacier Knight, than move spam. >:(. Stortamus copies his ally by rushing into Truffles with his steel-hard head. Iron Chain curls up into a ball and rolls at Truffles as slowly as possible, somehow hurting Truffles a lot, evident by Truffles saying "this wasn't in the friggin' job description." Truffles, angered, just sits there and pretends to not be able to do anything when he is really just tired of this immediate abuse. Nolan keeps up the boringness, of course. Iron Chain, however, keeps using totally different moves; his tail shines blue, and is then thrown into Truffles body, causing Truffles to fall over and not get up. Wait, why hasn't Stortamus moves yet... oh, there he is, waking up from a quick hippo-nap, roaring and causing the ground to open up beneath Nolan's feet. It seems that this round is over, and Its_A_Random has displayed his skill and well-trained Pokemon at this point. Glacier Knight seems to be ranting about Its_A_Random's luck and something about flinching, I'm not entirely sure why. Anyway, it's time for the trainers to do their shit.

After a quick KO in the first round, Glacier Knight seems to want to return the favor. Let's see if that pans out for him... Stortamus, before anyone else moves, seems to just brace himself. That sure does seem to be a popular strategy for Pokemon that have been weakened. Nolan winds up, pulling his icy-blue fist back, and then punches Stortamus, but he doesn't seem to mind due to his preparation. Drake does a fancy little dance while tossing around a stone covered in ice... ouch, ice is falling on me! This is no better than the sand and the mud, which has stopped flying around. Iron Chain, not liking the new cold weather one bit, does a little dance himself, and suddenly all of the ice is melting and no longer flying around... goddamnit, the mud and sand are back! Oh well... Drake, Nolan, and their trainer all appear extremely pissed off about Iron Chain and his happy dancing. Nolan reuses his strategy from last round of trying to slice Stortamus with leafy-green arms, and Drake quickly follows with a blast of water from his mouth, but Stortamus is using the adrenaline to just keep going! Stortamus and Iron Chain both start slamming tails and feet and whatnot on the ground simultaneously, and the entire arena is shaking like crazy! Its_A_Random, of course, is very pleased with himself and his Pokemon. Nolan once again punches Stortamus big fat ugly face with a cold, blue fist. Drake blasts more water at Stortamus, but misses! (as if it matters...) Stortamus and Iron Chain once again make the entire arena shake together, and of course cause mud to fly EVERYWHERE. Oh god, I think there's a bit of mud in my eye... brb, gonna go find a bathroom and try to clean my face and hands a bit.

Sandstorm (3 rounds)

Both trainers have given their Pokemon their orders, and I am somewhat surprised by Glacier Knight's decisions. Nolan braces himself, and Drake slams onto the ground, cracking his shell right open! The ground Pokemon take advantage of the lack of offense to get in plenty of their own; Robolem straight up punches Nolan in the face. Iron Chain rolls up into a ball and steamrolls Nolan. Nolan still seems just dandy, however, until a bit of mud flies into his eye. Suddenly, Nolan falls into the mud, down for the battle. Drake gets pissed off that his teammate went down without getting a chance to do anything this round, so, with his unprotected body, he tackles Robolem. Robolem is unfazed, and punches Drake, similar to the way he punched Nolan, but Drake is clearly dizzy at this point. Iron Chain charges at Drake and hits him with a headbutt. Drake, just barely able to keep his balance, once again slams into Robolem at full force, hoping to knock over the big robot. Unfortunately for Glacier Knight, Robolem is still standing strong, and swings its arm right into Drake's unshelled core. Iron Chain approaches Drake, his teeth glowing yellow with electricity, and then grabs Drake in his mouth, chomping down with great power. Iron Chain throws him on the ground next to Nolan, and they are both unconscious.

Sandstorm (2 rounds)

Glacier Knight is down to one Pokemon, but has not knocked out any of Its_A_Random's. At this point, the leader has basically won, the match simply needs to be ended. However, Norita looks to be trying her best to do something, shooting high-powered ice from her mouth at Robolem, making the robot so cold that it cannot even move. Iron Chain dances around, releasing little hearts from his steel pores like sweat (it's rather gross in my opinion), and Norita just seems to be loving it. However, Norita has no qualms about vomiting salty and acidic water all over Robolem, entering the cracks in its body, hurting him more than expected. Robolem, unfortunately, is still unable to function due to his low internal temperature. Iron Chain picks up and launches some rocks at Norita, turning her off a little, but only a tad. Norita, despite this abuse, is too infatuated by Iron Chain to attack his team, or do anything else for that matter. Robolem finally heats up sufficiently, immediately running up to Norita excitedly, then doing what he does best--straight up punching that bitch in the friggin' face, which, for some reason, makes Norita so confused that she seems to consider hitting herself. Iron Chain joins in the fun, clamping down on some blubber with powerful jaws, his teeth glowing with electricity. Norita no longer seems to be interested... anyway, Robolem is still alive, punching things, and overall thriving, along with the rest of the mons of the mud; Glacier Knight is hanging in there, though on the phone, I guess pretty busy...

P.S. Norita is confused for 0 actions because Thunder Fang did at least 16 damage, and that's apparently how that works according to the DAT

Sandstorm (1 round)

Yep, this is gonna be the end of this match. Shovrill now out on the field and loving the remaining sand still flying around, sharply attacks Norita with a rock. Iron Chain also throws some stones at Norita, who faints before she can use her powerful combination. Glacier Knight seems disappointed that he was unable to knock out any of Its_A_Random's Pokemon, but such is life. Maybe Glacier Knight can come back in some time and do better.

Thanks for reffing CMFP. IAR, that was quite shameful on my part. I'll get better though, once i return to asb, so expect a rematch in the future! Good Game on your part.

"Yeah, gg Glacier. You did get busy there, & you made a few mistakes, but do not take this to heart! Train hard, refine your strategy, & you may have a good shot at getting my badge when you challenge again! After all, if at first you do not succeed, try, try, & try again! Also, thanks to C$FP for taking this. Much appreciated."
