Project The Top 10 Titans of the 6th Gen OU Metagame

Goth's gonna win this round but I'm going to also nominate Talonflame.

It's basically the face of an entire playstyle (birdspam) and invalidates so many Pokemon that would be good otherwise. It's a terror for offensive teams because priority Brave Bird just annihilates them if they don't have anything that resist it. Even then, resists without reliable recovery are prone to being worn down or even damaged hard by Flare Blitz because it's still fast af without Gale Wings.

Sure, 4x weak to SR, recoil moves, etc. But this thing is a failsafe to set-up sweepers and scarfers, can screw over its fat switch-ins with Will-o-wisp, or just U-turn into Duggy to trap Heatran which may be your only Talon counter. It's not as dominant now as it was when XY came out but guess why? Because the meta was forced to adapt to it and it's another one of the reasons why Landorus-T, Rotom-W, Tyranitar, and Heatran are so popular.

Talonflame
(Will most likely add more once off phone)

Despite it's 4x weakness to rocks, Talonflame has always been a strong force in the ORAS OU metagame. Having access to an extremely spammable 120BP STAB move that paired with an amazing ability Gale Wings makes Talonflame one heck of a revenge killer. Talonflame is also a massive thread to offense due to and pretty much as mentioned above, the face of Bird Spam which has gained more popularity in recent times. On top all that, Talonflame has a fair amount of sets it can run, whether that is Band, StallBreaker or SD. As mentioned above, the meta was forced to adapt to Talonflame (More usage of Rotom-W, Lando-T, Heatran, TTar, Slowbro, etc) as if you didn't have a check/counter you should simply press the "X" button. Overall, Talonflame is a deadly Revenge Killer / Sweeper and even has the ability to Break Stall and has shaped the metagame.

Gothitelle wins 4th place! Gothitelle has always been something to watch out for, but its popularity reached new heights in 6th Gen OU. Its trapping abilities allowed it to effortlessly trap and eliminate just about any threat to its team, which made it especially terrifying on stall teams. Its effectiveness eventually led to a ban of Shadow Tag as a whole. In fact, Gothitelle might be seen as a symbol of trapping as a whole, which has escalated to the point where even Dugtrio is being discussed as a potential problem.

Voting for #5

Once again, I'll give my vote to Landorus-T. He's been the runner-up for 4 rounds in a row, he's got to break through eventually, lol.

Mega Sableye
Defines the stall archetype, one of the most powerful forms of hazard control, and the cornerstone of pretty much any defensive build, Mega Sableye is definitely the 'mon for the number 5 position. Between it's spectacular pre-mega ability Prankster and it's sky high mixed defenses, really sweet defensive typing and Magic Bounce post-mega, it left it's mark on defensive teams for it's ability to provide immense utility. It is restrictive to building in a lot of ways, with any hazard layer that can't at least pose a threat to this immediately becoming a liability (thus invalidating all suicide leads barring Azelf for the most part), and it was the reason that things like SR Clef surged into popularity. It's amazing synergy with key Pokemon like Dugtrio, Chansey and many others, as well as being one of the most consistent Mega Medicham stops in the game, has allowed it to climb to dominance and has also allowed it to more easily shape the hazard metagame around itself. All in all it is an extremely influential Pokemon.

I'm going to change up my vote to latios. Latios was the premier special wallbreaker in the tier and forced every team to pack a steel or fairy type or pursuit. It could run coverage moves such as hp fire and surf to lure its switch-ins. It had great typing, well rounded stats, and the one of strongest special attack in OU right now, draco meteor. Also inspired cores like keldeo+ttar and zardy+ttar just to deal with it.

tbh for me. this slot is a toss up between clef and lando-t.

yes, these two mons are definitely mons that are results of shaped metagame but let's recall on how consistent these mons have been. compared to clef, lando-t has always been a premier check to a lot of the bigger feisty threats in ou. scarf sets allowed it to threaten offensive teams by cleaning up with it's powerful ground stabs accompanied with a surefire way of gaining momentum in the form of knock off and u-turn. rocky helm lando-t was introduced in early early xy during pre and post pokebank era alongside rocky helm chomp as methods of dealing with the crazy powerhouses like mkang and blaziken and was again reintroduced after mlop's rise to success in oras. earth plate dual dance lando-t was also always a sleeper threat that allowed balance teams to fake the rocks user alongside a common rocker like heatran or ttar and lastly, it's rocks sets in general (SD rocks / RH rocks) are all amazing sets that saw alot of success in oras due to the omnipresence of physically inclined attackers.

arguably, lando-t shouldn't be considered as a titan for the sole fact that it's a mon that is hugely influenced by how the metagame sways as evident by the prominence of certain sets during certain timelines in 6th gen.
> early xy - scarf (due to the incredibly offensive nature of the meta up till deoxy-s ban)
> mid xy - SD (due to the more bulkier nature of the meta with the prevalence of mvenu balance / stall)
> late xy - scarf / SD (mdos, mgarde, mhera, mcham's rise to fame post aegi ban made the scarf set with superpower a lot more potent)

> early oras - RH SR (due to the need for physically defensive rockers that have a way of retaining momentum unlike chomp)
> mid oras - scarf (offensive nature of metagame pre and post hoopa-u's introduction allowed this set to shine once more against offensive teams)
> our current game state now where we see an increased usage in RH SR again due to the rise of physically based offensive teams (xtrabirds and mlop hos)

however, this shows and proves how much utility lando-t has and how consistent it has been throughout the past 2.5 years simply because it shows that no matter how much the metagame twists and turns out of it's favor, lando-t always manages to find a way to come back and shine due to all of it's amazingly great qualities combined together. ground immune mon with access to hard hitting ground stab accompanied with powerful utility moves makes this mon one of the most referred to mon in the metagame since it has almost all the qualities we need in a member of our team. therefore, it's time for lando-t to be on the list and hopefully it will outrank it's incarnate brethren.

Mega Sableye

Since its introduction, it has been the chief cornerstone of almost every stall on the planet. It compresses so many roles into one slot, including semi-reliable hazard control (Ferrothorn gets a special mention here because it is almost 100% shut down), spreading status, Knock Off, etc. This mon almost singlehandedly holds up an incredibly common and influential archetype.

Why wasn't Genesect on the list? That thing defined the metagame hardcore before it got the ban hammer. Sorry if this was addressed before I'm just a little baffled right now.

Deoxys-S

This thing can do basically the same thing that Deoxys-D did but better. It can also run a Revenge Killer set and is almost impossible to revenge kill without priority because it is faster than Choice Scarf Garchomp.

First 4 Slots are pretty much right in my view. All these pokemon polarised the game 1 way or another. Now we are getting down to whats best currently.

I'll Vote Clefable for Number 5: This thing more or less has been the face of OU since Aegisslash's Ban and for good reason. Clefable pretty much defined what it meant to be a fairy during the early days of Gen 6 helping to end the Era of Outrage spam and is arguebly the most consistent pokemon in the game capable of fufilling any role, checking much of the meta and while not polarising like previous entires she still demands every team take an answer to her lest they be torn to bits by Yellow magic calm minds or lured by one of her other sets. Clefables main Set T-wave/Calm mind Magic guard alone is enough in my view to get her on the list.

Even when the metagame was so geared against it she still retained her S rank slot.

Voting for Mega Sableye. This thing has defined the stall archtype ever since its release. Preventing your opponent from setting up entry hazards is absolutely phenomenal against many teams since one of the most common way of wearing away at teams is by setting up entry hazards and forcing them to switch around a ton, but Sableye's ability to prevent rocks from basically every Pokemon in the metagame and has influenced a meta a ton. Without Sableye, Stealth Rock Clefable would not be a set at all. Just looking at metagame changes, Lum SD Chomp and Rocks Clef both skyrocketed in usage because of Sableye, not to mention it singehandedly brought stall back from the depths of shitty teams that no one used, forcing people to have to consider stall in teambuilding and pack legitimate stallbreakers again. Additionally Sableye stalls are notoriously difficult to break and have influenced people to run many customized sets such as Stallbreaker Toge, CM SP Clefable, Rest Mega Hera, and others that are designed specifically to have a good matchup vs Sableye stall. If this isn't making significant metagame impact, then I don't know what is. Clefable and Landorus-T are amazing Pokemon in their own right, but they haven't influenced team building to the extent that Sab has. Clefable gave you more motivation to run a steel on your teams, even though you already ran steels because of Latios, Garde, Diancie, etc. not to mention that you prep for clef when you prep for fairies in general as opposed to just that one mon. Landorus-T has had a bit of impact, making ice coverage important for physical attackers to have, but that's about all it's influenced and preparing for Lando-T is the same as preparing for Grounds like Garchomp and Excadrill (although this is arguably more annoying to prep for) and frankly is oftentimes checked on teams without you even thinking about it. Obviously both are still excellent Pokemon, but Mega Sableye definitely has influenced the metagame a whole lot more than anything else being voted on at this point.
