Observing the Obelisk, Random took time to decipher the meaning of what is on the obelisk while his Pokémon took the time to relax... What did it mean? And what importance did it have in the middle of a desert that had no other visible life forms present for miles on end? Problem is, the amount of random text made it difficult to decipher, & time was running out...

"Well Stortamus, I guess it might take some time, but when I am done, be ready to t-"

"Chill. That is all you people do. Salt is a food enhancer, yet would you flippantly douse your meal of dusk with the substance? emptying the whole flask onto the dish? I think not. Recuperation is the salt of war, of battle; of this COMPETITION. Lazily basking in the sun of my lands will not win you any respect, OR prizes, from me."

"Well what was that... I was only getting you to rest up while I deciphered this thing... Anyways, as I was saying Stortamus, be ready to t-"

"He was here! I know it! Just for a day, but he was here! Now, where is the mortal known as Walker?!? Speak, or you'll all suffer!"

"Who the fuck was that? And who the fuck is this Walker guy? Meh, none of my concern... Right Stortamus, when I am done, be ready to do some things... Okay?"

"Hippowdon."

"You were ordered to aid us in executing the foul Volcarona! How dare you defy me!"

"You won't like Frollo when he's angry."

"Accursed beast! You shall pay for your insolence!"

"I can only pray for its own sake that the ally we picked up is more loyal."

"Well, after all this time, we're back to square one."

"Sheesh. And we barely even got started either. Only one area and we just got pummeled by a bat. Oh woe is us..."

"Well, at least we managed to just escape in time. Now we have to recoup and figure out a plan."

"..."

"Ummm...hi there! My name's Chun-Li! Want to be friends?"

"..."

"Um, is that a no?

"....Hello gentlemen. I think it is time for this Compeition to get much more... Interesting."

This round was cut short, due to the loss of an opponent...

One fell. Now only twenty of the bravest battlers stand, still eager for the golden prize, and the glory that comes with it.

It us now time for a Twist to be revealed!

(With a sweep of its shadowy left arm, the Figure blackened Massimo! The batters turn with gaped mouths to the observation screen, where it seems the outer arenas of Massimo have been engulfed by the shadows!)

"...Now there is less room to run. Less room to hide."

(Furthermore, it looks like all the remaning pokemon were scrambled up and teleported to new arenas!)

The Game has changed, my precious competitors.

Pay close attention; if you fail to listen and grasp all that I lecture, you will surely fail.

ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN: A NEW SCHEME APPEARED!

All pokemon that are still able to battle have been placed on a Team. There are Five Teams of Four.

Amaranth Arboks
Burgundy Braviarys
Cyan Cacturnes
Ebony Electrodes
Jade Jolteons

Now, how do you know who your teammates are?

You don't.

Noone knows who their teammates are. HOWEVER, I will be sending each and everyone a PM. In that PM, you will learn what Team you are loyal to.

Also... you will learn the loyalties of one other person.

Want me to clear things up?

You only know two things. You know:
-What team you are on
-What team one other person is on

What does that mean? That means there is one other person alive in the compeition that knows what team you are on!

Now, what is the importance of teams?

ONLY 12 PEOPLE MAY ADVANCE TO THE NEXT PART OF THE ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN. If a Team is still FULLY INTACT, then all team members heal +80HP +80EN before the Next part begins.

Finding out your team seems very good to me!
There's a few more things though my dear battlers!

I have some prizes to give to those who use their wits and their heads.

I will be giving out Two +60EN +60HP cards.

How do you get one of these cards?

You have to PM me (CORRECTLY) All 4 members of your team (Yes, include yourself). The first two people to correctly PM me will receive the cards.

Also, I have One +100EN +100HP card which I would love to give.

To get this one, you must PM me ALL TEAM ROSTERS correctly. You must tell me all 4 members on each team.

If you send me your guess, and you are incorrect, the first time nothing happens. From then on, each incorrect submission means I take -5EN -5HP from your pokemon.

You can submit your Guesses at any time until I say so!

Furthermore, I have KO GIFTS. If you manage to KO an opponent, you will receive a gift at the end of the round. More KOs, more gifts!

"Fufufufu... I think things are about to get VERY interesting. Don't you think so, my dears?"

NEW SCHEME RECAP:
-There are 5 teams of 4
-Only 12 people advance to the next stage of the U.S
-If your whole team advances, you heal +80EN and +80HP
-You do not know who your teammates are (but you can learn)
-You learn one other person's team alliance
-KO gifts are now available to those who KO enemies
-If you PM me the correct roster of your Team, you get a healing card
-If you PM me the correct roster of every team, you get a super healing card
-the Chill Ban is still in effect
-No Lottery or Care Packages available

"....one more thing i forgot to mention. I am somewhat proud of you all who have persevered, so a small gift to all. +10EN and +10HP, for your future struggles."

"Well Frollo, it looks like we might have some allies who will actually help us once we remove that pesky Charizard."

"And he shall smite the wicked and plunge them into the fiery pit!"

"Um ... I think he'd like it in a fiery pit."

"And he shall smite the wicked and plunge them into the cold watery pit!"

Mirage looked at the two opponents in the caves with her. Were they on her side for now? Or were they still enemies?

Why must I carry on in the open... I cannot withstand open assaults...

Where could he be...

The Zoroark shed a tear at the two opponents, then got herself into fighting position.

This is going to hurt... they may not be the demons I need to bring down, but this will hurt anyway...

(All right, listen up, everyone. The Showdown has been going on since December. That is a significant timeframe, and still we have twenty participants. I would like this to be brought to an end. I doubt I am the only one to have this desire. So, here is a proposal:

For those that have been eliminated already and those that do not care to participate any further recieve their prizes (5 CC and MC for their Pokemon). The rest of us go and find a new ref to ref the remaints of us in an RP arena, or find some other way to find out who is on top.)

I'm personally not opposed to this, since I think we're all doubting that this will ever finish as is.

It would be nice to see Glacier weigh in on this idea somehow though.

Give Glacier a week. If the 1% chance Glacier does manage to log on & ref happens, then I guess we can come back to ED's post in several weeks time. Otherwise, we could either go with ED's proposal, or just void this entire match, especially given TLR is in a mode of indefinite stasis at the present moment (Master Ball is only useful there haha).

"Again their impatience shows," purred the Shadow, "Their eyes are always blinded by the sight they wished to see..." For the Figure's ramrod posture hides a deep pain plainly visible to it's servant. It is a hunter, after all - bred and brought up to survive by observing, and exploiting, every weakness in a prey or an opponent. But these are not predators. Not in the sense of predators who either thrive or die. They are mere rutting stags, accustomed to getting by with a show of force alone, backing down when they are cowed because they will lose nothing but their temporary pride.

In short, they followed the law of the herd. Natural, for they are herd-living species, after all. But this place is not a herd. Far from it. In a real wilderness - where there are no beasts that do not consume the flesh of another - they would fall because they relied on those they cannot trust. They do not understand still, and likely never will, that there is and will be no permanent joining between entities whatsoever.

The Shadow sniffed the air. Blackfire - the shadowkin rival - has gone. An all-consuming fire, that turned on itself? An experiment failure on the Figure's part, perhaps, a weakness within His mind. "Soon, he will slip, and he will fall."

"And we shall fall with him...."

* * * * *

Speaking as the appointed sub-referee, I am asking that we continue Showdown because it is a shame for it to just ditch off like this. Also, I would like to say that all our past data was stored in vBulletin groups, which are currently un-retrievable. I probably have enough vague memories of it to reconstruct the system, albeit with some unintended - or intended - modifications. But in any case, should the 1-week grace period declared by IAR (as a projmod, I presume?) ends without Glacier's reffing, then I ask that every participant send their old, or new, orders to me, and I'll try to have it done ASAP.

Quick calling, just because I'm getting myself back in here while Glacier can be said to be off for good. I'm deeply sorry that we've both procrastinated this long as referees, and I hereby ask that all actions be sent in by 11:59pm 27th August, EST so that I can start reffing before my term starts.

Scavenging every scrap of info here. No reffings yet: expect them within 30 hours.

Edit: Shit, I should've look deeper into Glace's hide tags.

This part of Massimo is very expansive. Although it is mainly composed of pine, this forest is also home to other popular species of coniferous plants. The whole arena is composed of these trees, there isn't really an open space. there are some pockets within the forest though, for sparring purposes. all the trees reach around 60 feet in the air, making it hard to see the sky when you are trapped in its maze. the grass is not that tall, about a foot or so, but it is much thicker than other places in Massimo. this could be beneficial to your grass attacks, or hiding things within the blades. The trees can climbed, though only by though nimble enough do to so. It is easy to jump from tree to tree, since they are all fairly close to one another. The ground here is riddled with roots (underground at least), so digging could get you tangled. Seismic activity would be scary, but it can happen.... The sky, if you can see it, is very cloudy. sometimes it snows here! sometimes it rains.... sandstorms don't occur here.

Over one of the newly fallen trees, some smoke billows....
This area of Massimo is very unruly, almost unruly as the jungles or the swamps. The grass is a consistent 4 feet tall, though a strong breeze is blowing, bending the blades somewhat. The grass is also thick, causing pokemon wafting through it to speed down a bit. There are no big trees or other plants. Just tall grass and more tall grass. the ground is a little hard, with all the roots, but nothing to impair diggers too much.

Most of the grass and soil are still smoldering due to a recently started fire, too hot to tread by most.
Deep within the northern mountains, Massimo has a large cave system that is perfect for battle. No matter what direction you come from, it all meets together to form an enormous chamber; and what lies inside will blow your mind. first, there are a great deal of stalactites and stalagmites. They can be climbed on, used to hide behind, and whatnot. second, they are all different sizes and shapes: some are 80 feet tall (the cavern is about 200 feet tall in the highest places). In addition to the crazy formations, there are pools of water, some up to 10 feet deep. watch out if you dive down, there are pointy stalagmites down there! Now, as far as lighting goes, the sun cannot even fathom this place. it would be pitch black, but luckily torches were placed all around the cavern walls. Some are really high up, but other are low to the ground, so if you wish, you can grab them. Sadly, the immensity of the cavern means no matter how many torches there are, it is still somewhat dark. You accuracy might be hampered, unless you are nocturnal or used to low lights (or even produce your own light). The ground here is pure limestone; the whole place is limestone. Digging will not work here, and a seismic move will not turn out very pretty, though you can try one out. As for weather, no matter how you try, you won't be able to whip anything up; not even a sandstorm.

One more thing - the main cavern does have some openings that lead to different rooms of the cave system. most require flying up or nimble maneuvering to get to them.
The center of Massimo, this area was created for the most unbiased of battles. The ground is extremely, almost unnaturally flat. except of course, for the huge holes scattered here in there. They are not really holes, but craters, some deep enough to take cover in. they are of varying sizes. the ground is soft, and diggable, and there are some muddy spots, where it rained. There is no main water source besides the mud here and there. The sky is always cloudy here, but the sun does shine, if you want it too. Whipping up a sandstorm here would cause mud to get everywhere, so watch out. there are some patches of grass, but not much, and its not very tall.
Giving a wonderful of the south sea, this section of Massimo is also dangerous. the ground here is tough, and will be difficult for diggers. the grass is somewhat tall, around one to two feet. no water source, until you get to the ocean.... which is 200 feet below you. The whole cliff side is sheer, and you cant really access the water or the sea unless you dive straight off the edge. seismic activity is fine, though if you are near the edge, watch out. The sky is a clear blue, almost the same shade as the sea. This place is too gorgeous for rain, but it could be summoned, I guess. Its far too warm for hail though. Also, the plant life here goes as far as grass. Trees are non-existent. if you look closely, from the cliff's edge you can see almost anything in the sea... Or what was left of it.

Now, all you see beyond the cliffs... is an impenetrable, living darkness.
The arena is 1000 feet by 1000 feet. The ground is flat for the most part, but there are lines of trenches throughout the area. they are 6 feet deep and 6 feet wide, with about a foot of water in all of them. the trench bottom is not slippery, though the water should be noted. The ground is also sturdy, but can be dug into. There are secret rooms under the whole arena, and digging might uncover these hidden bunkers. Seismic activity is allowed. Scattered around the arena are large oak trees, each exactly the same as the next. they are all 50 feet tall, with many large branches sticking out and reaching far. the trunks are 6 feet thick, and can be climbed up. each tree has a built in platform situated at 20 feet, which can be accessed by a ladder attached to the tree (or you can fly to it). the ground is littered with huge boulders, most 7 feet tall. the grass is medium height, about 2 and a half feet tall. Floating in the center of the arena, 55 feet in the air (the treetops under it almost reach it) is a flat platform, 150 by 150 feet wide and long. what is on the platform? that is for you to find out. there are long ropes that dangle from all of its edges, and most of them hit the ground below. The sky is a freakish green, and it is very cloudy...

In short, think a warzone when you see Flavour Special.
This is where Massimo is most filled with life: the Rain Forest is extremely wild and untamed. There are some paths you can take, so you don't have to trek through poisonous plants or traps. In the center of the Rain Forest, there is a clearing where you can battle without being waist deep in plants. the clearing is 50 feet by 50 feet, and is circular. the ground is dirt, and in the clearing, it can be easily dug in (the same cannot be said if you stray off the path into the jungle. lots of roots). surrounding the clearing is rain Forest plant life, and it stretches as far as the eyes can see. Now, as for the Rain Forest itself, exploring its deepest parts could be very fulfilling. There are many plants deep within that can heal certain ailments, or restore energy or even health. However, nature has built its own protection to prevent trespassers to take its jewels. will you encounter them? just be careful... Unless you are grass or bug type, or used to trekking through hot, humid conditions, you will be uncomfortable, and could very well be hampered. Some trees can be climbed, but most are thick and leafy, and cannot be counted upon to hold your weight, no matter how heavy. The tallest trees give safety and a lookout perch to all who can reach it. Fire would usually destroy such a habitat, but thankfully, it is almost always raining here. The climate is too humid for hail, and sandstorm would not do much.

Right this time, though, the forest is eerily quiet. As if all the wildlife is too scared of movement, of noise, of discovery...

Note: due to reshuffling of your position, some of your targets may not be in the same arena as you are. In that case, I am randomly targeting anything nearby.

Other rulings going on:
-There are 5 teams of 4 (exactly that), that has been reshuffled.
-Only 12 people, or less, advance to the next stage of the U.S
-If your whole team advances, you heal +80EN and +80HP
-You do not know who your teammates are (but you can learn)
-You learn one other person's team alliance (PM me, Zt, post-round to ask for it please)
-If you PM me the correct roster of your Team, you get a healing card
-If you PM me the correct roster of every team, you get a super healing card
-the Chill Ban is still in effect (Chill when >60 EN suffers a penalty that has yet to be known)
-No Lottery or Care Packages anymore
-The referee (me, Zt) is currently in control of certain NPCs.
-The "no order" penalty has been renewed - y'all be starting with a clean slate again, but it's still "Strike 1, nadda. Strike 2, suffer. Strike 3, eliminated."
-Everyone gets +10HP, +10EN. If Glace gave it before, I'm giving it again. So thank me for it by helping me see this through.

“Now, let battle be joined,” murmured the Figure.

“And let it be joined blind.”

And blind indeed. For none knew who their ally was, or their enemy – their next blow might be as detrimental to their future well-being as it might be beneficial. But for some, it does not matter. So long as there is battle, there will be blows.

To the west, a Togekiss engaged a shadow in a brief dogfight, managing to drive it back towards another place. But still full in purpose, or perhaps in battle lust, it turned onto a Bisharp with fiery attacks that severely weakens its foe. But another flier has already been brought down in the south. Frollo the Medicham, after surviving blood and fire, took upon his victor’s spoils, and with the Anorith, it sealed the transformed Charizard in a smoking, rocky pit. All is lost indeed, as the Emblem fell with the fire dragon, perhaps never to be recovered again, a relic to be forgotten…

In the caves up north, a Slaking managed to escape the combined wrath of the Zoroark and the Slowbro, who were landing foul blasts of energy at it. With their target gone, it seems the remaining two were left in a temporary truce… The same could be said on the cliffs far south. None of the combatant moved aside from the departing Dusclops – but wait! The cursed slime, separated from a Muk’s body, seems to have been displaced – but by whom?

Upon the warzone, yet another shadow was driven off – this time by a Lucario, who may have discovered a talent in wielding psionic blades. A nearby Hippowdon does nothing to aid or abet, however, content to just wallow and wield it’s massive body in hopes of weathering it all. Little did it know that a new fate is awaiting those who do so…

Back to the tall grasses, the shadow, livid at the defeat, snuck up upon an unsuspecting Krilowatt, eager for revenge. But it met its doom, shrieking and wailing as the Dusclops arrived and buried it for good – sending it away at last. But the Medicham is no longer in sight – retreating from the battleground, it rests and prepare to recuperate, as its Anorith tagged along.

Within the jungle, the elusive Emolga is finally defeated by a Gallade, though the coup de grace is delivered by a shadow passing by. That leaves the Nidoking left standing to face the Gallade, but with the shadow’s menacing presence nearby, it could very well turn into a backstabbing melee…

“Perfect,” murmured the Figure, “Allies and enemies taken down, while yet another cunningly survives,” for a second Togekiss, ducking and swerving, managed to defended itself against a Haxorus’ merciless blows. But it looks like it won’t survive long.

Sending the Trainers back to their lodgings, the Figure ponders the next day of events, of what may unfold, of what will unfold, late to the night. “Now, for the- ungh!!” the Figure didn’t finished his sentence.

All of a sudden, his world went white.

And a Spiritomb screamed in rage for a fraction of the second, before its sound was cut short.

Beware of stepping towards the cliffs though - it seems as if something is writhing beneath the soil...

ACTIONS ARE DUE MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH, AT 11:59PM (EST)

Mirage glanced at the fleeing Slaking, before sighing.

Just who's side are we on, anyway?

The Zoroark glanced around, ignoring the Slowbro for the moment as she sought something she could turn to her advantage. Even as there are those that fall, there were always options. Even if those options relied on "questionable" methods.

I can't fall here. Itsumo would have a clear- What was that?

She thought, glancing at the Slowbro. A Spiritomb's rage had been heard, and some other demon was in trouble as well.

We cannot win against them. All we are doing is weakening ourselves. And if we aren't careful, we may wind up just as bad the Demons.

We need to act together. If we can all act against them, we might be able to deal them a serious blow.

"Clearly this creature of stone is a fellow servant of the Lord."

"Speaking of which, apparently there's been a change of plans. Our allies are no longer who we thought they were."

"We should have no problems learning who is a filthy heathen."

"Right, but first, you need to get some rest."

It's time.

This has gone on far, Far, FAR too long (10 months with a resolution nowhere in sight). The management has been sub-par to put it kindly. We appreciate the combined efforts of Glacier Knight and ZhengTann (who stepped in after Glacier bailed) in trying to make this spectacle a success but it ultimately failed in that goal. It's time to put this to rest.

I'll throw up a sticky detailing rewards et al.
