"Did you ever hear of the Legends?"

"What Legends?"

"Of Pokemon so rare, so powerful, that their very existence is debated even amongst Pokemon researchers."

"Oh, those legends. What of it?"

"They say there is a cove with a rare Pokemon in it. The Pokemon around there aren't particularly strong, and the place itself has been checked time and time again. But people still insist there's a legend there. But it can only be found if you can hear its voice."

"Sounds like a fairy tale. Lay off the whisky."

"Whatever you say. I'm heading over there to check it out."

There is a cove hidden deep in a forest that beckons those few chosen ones who seek the legends. In order to get there you will have to cross several kinds of treacherous terrain, but this may be your first chance to get a taste of adventure. A mysterious man meets you at the entrance, signaling you forward. Oddly, it seems like you're the only one who can see them. You ignore the jests of your friends and follow him. You think you've heard him speak before, but you can't quite remember what his voice sounds like. It strikes you as odd, but you head towards the Mysterious Cove anyway.

You enter the mouth of the cove, filled with many natural features. A slow but quite high waterfall flows here, and you can see a King's Rock up at the top of it. At various points along the waterfall you can see some Slowpoke. Seems like they're all trying to race to get the rock... but given that you're substantially closer you might be able to grab it.

A voice speaks: "Ah, it appears as if the Slowpoke are in the middle of a common ceremony. This is where you will make your first choice."

Player Options:
a) Grab the King's Rock
b) Carry On

IF Option A:

IF Active Member has 40 speed or less

An uncharacteristic burst of speed from <Slowest Team Member> lets them grab the rock on your command, and even manage to dodge the angry Water Guns from the Slowpoke. Even if <Slowest Team Member> is now a little bit winded from the effort, you think it's worth it. However, what you didn't notice was a Malamar in the backdrop, who seems to detect your tiredness, and who blocks your narrow path forward.

"Heh, didn't think there were many of those around. That's a Rare Encounter. Some Pokemon don't come out much, but they're are pretty strong. Even then, they tend to hide away in places so narrow that you can only send one of your Pokemon after them. Trust me, it could have been worse."

[REF NOTE] Player obtains a King's Rock, lowest speed teammate loses 20 EN. Initiate a Rare Encounter with Malamar

With the Malamar no longer posing a threat, you continue down the narrow path that it was previously blocking.

IF No Active Member currently with 40 speed or less

You try to climb to reach the rock, but the Slowpoke are somehow faster than you. Your pride damaged by this fact, you slide back down. However, it seems that <One team member> managed to find a couple of old Poke Balls perched at a natural gripping point. You manage to grab them, but not without your climbing inadvertently knocking several looser pieces of rock into the water below, causing a small handful of fish to surface and block your path.

"Welcome to a nest. What these Pokemon lack in strength they make up for in numbers. Plan carefully."

[REF NOTE] Player gains 2 Net Balls. All team members lose 30 EN. Initiate a Nest Battle, vs opponents as randomised below.

Randomize:
3 Magikarp: 10%
2 Magikarp, 1 Tynamo: 30%
1 Magikarp, 2 Tynamo: 45%
3 Tynamo: 15%

After eliminating the fish, you swiftly move on through the cove.

IF Option B:

You watch the scene bemused, and see one of the Slowpoke finally reach the King's Rock, as it begins to glow a bright white.

"Ah, I see you decided to not interfere. Interesting." The voice then continues more menacingly, "Now, let's see how you fare against the element of surprise!"

Without warning, an Abra grasps your <Pokemon with smallest movepool> and both of them vanish. The serene atmosphere returns to that of the damp cave you had just been in. As you work out the illusion, you can't help but wonder what befell your other Pokemon. You estimate it will take two rounds to find it.

[REF NOTE] At this point, initiate a Trap Battle with Abra, targetting the opposing Pokemon with the smallest movepool.

After finding your lost Pokemon, you travel torwards an exit. The exit leads out to an area that looks precisely like the one in the illusion. You can only wonder if this one is real as well.

You find a large underground cave that appears to be a dead end. The area's rocky surface drops into what appears to be a very shallow lake, insufficient for swimming. You turn to your guide, who disappears in a flash of light. The guide's form is gone, but you hear another voice.

"You have been chosen to undergo the test. I hope you have prepared well - the Guardians of this cove are a crafty duo. Do not think mere force alone will be sufficient. They will wait calmly and exploit any flaws in your strategy. Pass this trial, and have a chance at something truly amazing."

[REF NOTE] Initiate Guardian Battle vs Metang and Eelektrik

As the Guardians fall, the lake drains itself, revealing a path down to another cave.

You cautiously follow the path, which widens quickly and are surprised to find that, even buried down here, there is a faint amount of light. As you approach the source of the light, you realise that the source appears to be an outcropping of bioluminescent mushrooms. You also note that the path seems to temporarily split into two, with a chasm running down the centre. One path is substantially difficult to see, whilst the other risks you coming into direct contact with the fungus, which feels as if it would be deeply unsettling.

"Not all choices are fair. Especially those made when one is so close to power. Still, let us see what you value!"

Player Options:
a) Take the Mushroom Path
b) Take the Dark Path

a) Take the Mushroom Path

You navigate the path quickly, but not without rubbing against the mushrooms more than you wish, who in turn seem more than content to coat your team in a cocktail of debilitating substances. However, you can see another light at the end of the tunnel

[REF NOTE] Apply Effect Spore (100% Activation Rate) to each active team member once. Advance to Boss.

b) Take the Dark Path

You slowly navigate the darker path. Although slow, the slightly jagged path proves exhausting without light. However, you do successfully navigate it, and are rewarded at the end with the sight of another light up ahead.

[REF NOTE] Team enters the Boss Fight with a -1 Stage Change to SpA and Atk (Adjusting the Natural Stage a la Intimidate). Advance to Boss.

"I see you made it through your trials. Now you'll get a chance to witness something truly legendary"

The voice weakens and fades, and you are left facing a grotto whose light source appears to come from below the water. You imagine it to be some kind of crystalline structure, since the water is so clear you can see straight to the bottom. Looking upward, you ca see the center of the Grotto is directly under the inset lake you saw earlier, and water is flowing down an elevated platform that spans the entire room, covering all the walls with water. But you don't get much time to enjoy the view, as soon enough a Golduck sticks its head out of the water. It dives back under, and soon in the center of the grotto you see a Phione rise upward, floating above the water's surface, and then over a small island in the center of the Grotto. Golduck joins it there. Both seem to be awaiting your actions.

[REF NOTE] Initiate Boss Fight vs Golduck & Phione

  • Only Rain has the raw materials to be summoned. All other weathers are not allowed, except by Weather Stone.
  • Water source available.
  • Neither Dig nor Dive can be used.

  • Only Rain Dance may be summoned, all other weathers will fail, except by Weather Stone.
  • Readily available water source. Dive Allowed.
  • Item cannot be removed from boss, however it can be Embargoed or Magic Roomed.

Mysterious Cove
Difficulty:

You leave the forest and come to the mouth of the cove. It appears to be low tide, as two rock paths barely sticking up out of the water are the only way in. Their winding nature makes them look like long whiskers. Looking closely at the water, you can tell it is slightly illuminated, though you don't know why. In any case, it looks like you won't be able to cross without some resistance.

A voice speaks: "Welcome to a nest. What these Pokemon lack in strength they make up for in numbers. Plan carefully." You wonder where this voice emanates from, but it would be better to think about the situation at hand.

[REF NOTE] Initiate a Nest Battle, vs opponents as randomised below.

Randomize:
3 Magikarp: 10%
2 Magikarp, 1 Tynamo: 30%
1 Magikarp, 2 Tynamo: 45%
3 Tynamo: 15%

Once you pass the Maw, you enter the cave, filled with many natural features. A slow but quite high waterfall flows here, and you can see a King's Rock up at the top of it. At various points along the waterfall you can see some Slowpoke. Seems like they're all trying to race to get the rock... but you might be able to grab it.

Player Options:
a) Grab the King's Rock
b) Carry On

IF Option A:

IF Active Member currently (Factor in Paralysis) with 13 speed or less

An unexpected burst of speed from <Slowest Team Member> lets them grab the rock on your command, and even manage to dodge the angry Water Guns from the Slowpoke. Even if <Slowest Team Member> is now a little bit winded from the effort. You wonder how they managed to suddenly display such speed, but nevertheless move on.

[REF NOTE] Player obtains a King's Rock, lowest speed teammate loses 10 EN
IF No Active Member currently (Factor in Paralysis) with 13 speed or less

You try to climb to reach the rock, but the Slowpoke are somehow faster than you. Your pride
damaged by this fact, you slide back down. However, it seems that <One team member> managed to find a
couple of old Poke Balls perched at a natural gripping point. You'd rather not consider why they were there though...

[REF NOTE] Player gains 2 Net Balls. All team members lose 10 EN

IF Option B:

You watch the scene bemused, and see one of the Slowpoke finally reach the King's Rock, as it begins to glow a bright white.

[REF NOTE] Advance to the Guardains

[REF NOTE] Roll a 30% Chance at this point. If you roll it, then swap this RP Section with Disrupted Meditation.

After Metang and Eelektrik are defeated, a hidden corridor opens in the back. You travel through and enter a new area. The cove appears to have a covered section undetectable by air, but you can still see sunlight coming in from the sides. This whole area is still, and it looks serene.

"Impressive work." The voice tells you, though more menacingly. "Let's see how you fare against the element of surprise."

Without warning, an Abra grasps your <Pokemon with lowest energy> and both of them vanish. The serene atmosphere returns to that of the damp cave you had just been in. As you work out the illusion, you can't help but wonder what befell your other Pokemon. You estimate it will take two rounds to find it.

[REF NOTE] At this point, initiate a Trap Battle with Abra, targetting the opposing Pokemon with the least EN.

After finding your lost Pokemon, you travel torwards an exit. You happen to notice three Pokeballs laying around, they look a bit scuffed as the edges, as though something tried to juggle them and missed a couple of times. You grab them.

The exit leads out to an area that looks precisely like the one in the illusion. You can only wonder if this one is real as well.

[REF NOTE] The player gains 3 Poke Balls.

An Abra Teleports into your room, but before the Abra can escape, the ceiling sbove you collapses upon you. Thankfully you're able to dodge the collapse, even if the Abra is less lucky. Further down, you see a Malamar that looks overly pleased with this development.

"Heh, didn't think there were many of those around. That's a Rare Encounter. Some Pokemon don't come out much, but they're are pretty strong. You can only send one of your Pokemon after them though. Trust me, it could have been worse."
