Togepi [QC 0/3]

[OVERVIEW]
  • Togepi is one of few Pokemon that can pass Nasty Plot boosts, and is commonly seen on Baton Pass chains as a result.
  • Although it competes with Mime Jr. in the same role, Togepi's greater physical bulk and pure Fairy typing, as well as its different movepool is enough to distinguish it. In fact, it is often seen as a partner to Mime Jr. so that Mime Jr. can pass a different set of boosts.
  • As a defensive Fairy-type, there is little reason to use Togepi over Snubbull or Spritzee.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Nasty Plot increases Togepi's Special Attack by two stages, letting it hit harder.
  • Baton Pass passes the accumulated Special Attack boosts to a teammate,
  • Dazzling Gleam is Togepi's best STAB attack, and it deals consistent damage.
  • Fire Blast deals with troublesome Steel-types like Pawniard, Magnemite, and Ferroseed. It also hits Foongus super effectively.
  • Stored Power gives Togepi a good offensive presence if passed boosts, and can deal with Poison-types like Mareanie, Foongus, and Skrelp. However, it loses coverage on Steel-types.
Set Details
========
  • The choice of item is a classic dilemma. Eviolite increases Togepi's overall bulk, but Berry Juice lets Togepi live certain attacks better, turning certain 2HKOs into 3HKOs.
  • Super Luck raises Togepi's critical hit ratio one stage, letting it potentially crit past opposing Calm Mind users easier. Serene Grace can be used instead, to give Fire Blast a higher chance of inflicting a burn.
  • 236 HP EVs maximizes Togepi's HP. 156 Defense with a Bold nature and 76 Special Defense EVs lets Togepi hit Eviolite numbers. 36 Speed EVs gives Togepi 9 Speed, putting it ahead of Foongus and Ferroseed with 8 Speed, and tying with Alolan Grimer and Skrelp.
  • A more offensive EV spread can be used, which focuses more on taking advantage of Togepi's solid coverage to be more of a pass receiver than a passer.

Usage Tips
========
  • Togepi is an intermediary in a Baton Pass chain, and can be brought in against Pokemon it checks, like Mienfoo or Vullaby and threaten them out with Dazzling Gleam.
  • Togepi is much more effective if passed Speed boosts, as without them it's very slow. For this reason usually it's better to lead with a different passer.
  • If it has some boosts, Togepi becomes surprisingly strong thanks to its good coverage, so feel free to take Togepi on the offensive if the need arises.

Team Options
========
  • As Togepi is typically used on Baton Pass teams, partners that learn Baton Pass and accumulate their own boosts are the most common teammates.
  • Torchic is a staple on any Baton Pass team thanks to its ability to pass Speed boosts, but it can also take advantage of the passed Special Attack boosts to deal hefty damage or sweep.
  • Mime Jr. can boost with Barrier and Calm Mind, and can also block Roar with Soundproof, making it an excellent passer.
  • Munna is the best user of Stored Power, and can set up and pass its own Calm Minds.
  • Diglett traps Mareanie and knocks it out, preventing it from coming in on Togepi and resetting its stats. It can also remove Steel types.

Other Options
=============
  • Togepi has a host of support moves, such as Heal Bell, Light Screen, Reflect, and Wish, but it has trouble making use of them without being forced into a support role it is outclassed in.
  • Encore can be used to give Togepi more setup opportunities, but it's typically only useful against slower Pokemon.
  • Morning Sun can be used as a reliable form of recovery.
  • Hidden Power Fighting deals with Pawniard reliably, but its coverage is mostly inferior to that of a Fire move.
  • Soft-Boiled can be used to recover, and it has more PP than Morning Sun. However, it is illegal with Nasty Plot, which is Togepi's niche, and reliable recovery isn't enough of a reason to justify using Togepi over other defensive Fairy types.
  • Psychic works similarly to Stored Power, although its base power is not affected by the accumulated boosts.
  • Ancient Power can be used for the 20% chance of raising all of Togepi's stats by one stage, thanks to Serene Grace. These boosts can then be passed. However, it's too inconsistent to be useful.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Hazing and Phazing**: Moves that can reset an opponent's stats ruin a Baton Pass chain. Mareanie can use Haze, which resets Togepi's stats, but if Togepi has Stored Power and enough boosts it can knock Mareanie out before that happens. Foongus can use Clear Smog to reset Togepi's stats, but if Togepi has multiple boosts it can knock it out with Fire Blast or Stored Power. Users or Roar or Whirlwind can force Togepi out and ruin its accumulated stat boosts.

**Taunt**: Taunt prevents Togepi from accomplishing its primary goal, and Togepi is particularly vulnerable to it, especially if it has not been passed any Speed boosts. Many common Pokemon learn Taunt, such as Aipom or Mienfoo.

Overview:
Togepi generally does not run Nasty Plot within Baton Pass chains as it would rather be the dedicated sweeper with three attacks, so reword the first point accordingly.
Togepi doesn't really compete with Mime Jr as a dedicated Nasty Plot passer since lower Speed + better bulk + Fairy STAB + coverage generally make it way better at the role, so you can remove the second point.
Mention that Pokemon who have enough damage to sweep after a single Nasty Plot boost tend to be easily revenge-killed by common Scarf and priority users, so NastyPass is not a very reliable strategy.

Set:
I feel that Baton Pass chains are niche enough that you don't really have to include them in the main set (and the chainpass Togepi set is usually Dazzling Gleam/HP Fighting/Stored Power/Baton Pass) so get rid of the Stored Power slash, as it doesn't really threaten bulky Poison-types after a single boost.
Mention chainpass Togepi in Other Options instead. Don't forget to reflect these changes in the other sections.

Set Details:
Reword the last point since this set is for quickpass Togepi now.

Usage Tips:
The main point of quickpass Togepi is that it can safely get a Nasty Plot boost to Elekid or Carvanha or something due to its low Speed, so the first two points should be removed.
Mention that Togepi should come in on a revenge-kill or slow VoltTurn against something that doesn't really threaten it so that it can safely set up Nasty Plot and pass it.
Mention that Togepi's lack of recovery, low Speed, and only decent bulk means that it will rarely be able to pull off a NastyPass more than once throughout the match, so it should only be done when you are confident that the recipient can sweep.
Mention that Pokemon that can potentially switch in and threaten Togepi with a OHKO before it can get its Baton Pass off should be removed beforehand.
Mention that Togepi should not attempt to Baton Pass to a frail teammate against a slower Pokemon, Foongus and Alolan Grimer being two common slow switch-ins to Togepi.

Team Options:
Get rid of the points involving dedicated chainpass.
Mention that fast, frail, and powerful Special sweepers, such as Elekid, Carvanha, and LO Torchic, are the ideal recipients to pull off a clean sweep.
Mention that LO Torchic in particular can be further chained with bulkier and slower recipients such as Magnemite and Skrelp thanks to Speed Boost.
Give examples of the Steel-types that Diglett traps. Mention Alolan Grimer as well.
Mention that Knock Off users can help put Foongus in +2 Fire Blast range before it uses Spore or Clear Smog.

Other Options:
Don't forget to describe the chainpass set here.

Very well done overall! Most of those changes were just related to having the main set be Quickpass Togepi. QC 1/3
