Y'know what, special challenge time. (also, Its_A_Random and I need a ref.)

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

Ah, Milliway's, the Restaurant at the End of the Universe. A fantastic place, where you can buy anything to eat you want, at any price thanks to the magic of millions of years of interest and the amazing powers of Bistromathics. As you enjoy whatever three-course-meal floats your boat, you notice a rival a few tables across. The end of the universe spectacle isn't going to be for another hour, so why not enjoy a small Pokemon fight?

Of course, it seems you've committed the ultimate blunder in the Restaurant-you've managed to meet yourself, both a past copy and a future copy. You remember your embarrassment at seeing your other two selves for the first time. And now you're back, this time as your current copy. You can feel the raw embarrassment radiating from your future copy, who has just arrived a third time at the same general area.

Your rival appears to be in the exact same predicament-his future and past selves have arrived at the same general area as well.

There's a Pokemon arena conveniently unused in this copy of the universe...and you can distinctly remember having a Pokemon battle there with your rival when you were younger. Your future self seems to have long anticipated this.

"9v9" Triples, technically 3v3 Triples with three iterations of each mon.
3 days DQ
12 chills per Pokemon, 4 recoveries per Pokemon (and by Pokemon I mean all three copies of that Pokemon.)

Arena: The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

A futuristic restaurant with plenty of neo-neon and exotic plastic plants. There's a round dirt arena of about 50 feet diameter to fight in, with several fountains around the arena to call on for a water source. The scents of the cuisines of 42 million cultures permeate the air. All moves permitted.

The twist of this fight is that a past version and a future version of yourself have also joined in the fight.

-Your past self uses the version of each mon you enter when it first got approved, with the present form's nature. Use the search function if you can't find it.
-Your present self will send out the current version of your mon.
-Your future self will send out a version of your Pokemon that is at maximum evolution, with all moves and Dream World ability unlocked.

Due to a quirk in spacetime, nobody knows who is going to win or lose this match, despite having participated in it already. Time travel is a dick. For the purposes of damage, each Pokemon counts as a separate entity, and any combination of past, present, and future Pokemon can be used at any one time.

Counters for both the referee and the battlers are at the discretion of a head ref.
Because of this, it is recommended Flora or Deck take this one. Other refs can take this, though-Flora/Deck assign counters, however. PM the ref the original copy of each mon from the prize claiming thread (or, if it's a starter, from your profile's starred moves), the current version from your profile, and the future version, based on the current version.

Smeargle can Sketch ANY moves utilized and has access to EVERY move in the future state, but can only take permanent Sketch slots from moves it has traced from past or present pokemon only. Past Smeargle only gets its starting Sketch moves and cannot permanently Sketch moves gained here.

Starting evolution is also banned, as making the rules any longer than they already are would cause brain implosions. Items, if used, would be from the present trainer only.
I accept this! Should be fun and complicated as hell! Good luck to the ref!

k tort goes i think?

...I should have predicted this.

Nevertheless, go, past Scratchet, present Syclant, and future Scratchet!

also haha first legitimate battle with a Tomohawk!

As Brandon prepared for his match against Tortferngatr, he suddenly noticed two men standing on each side of him. To his left was a man only very slightly younger than him, but seemingly more timid and less sure of himself. To his right was a man a fair bit older than him, who looked like a grizzled veteran. Brandon quickly recognized the two. "You're both me, aren't you?"
"I dunno, am I?" the one on the right asked in response, clearly puzzled by the situation. The one on the left sighed. "Yes. I'm you from the future, once you've accomplished everything there is to accomplish. He's you from the past, from when you first started out." Past Brandon interjected, "Wait, how do you know this?"
"I'm from the future. I've done this before."
"Wait, so do you know who wins?" Past Brandon asked. "Nope," came the reply. "Why not?"
"Put simply, time travel is a dick." Future Brandon then turned his attention to Current Brandon. "Alright, Tort has his past and future selves to help him out as well, so you'll need our Pokemon to win." Suddenly Future Brandon shoved his three Pokeballs into Current Brandon's hands. "Wait, why don't you battle with me? You're probably better than I ever will-" Current Brandon cut himself off as he realized how stupid that statement would be. Future Brandon replied, "I've done this already, I don't feel like doing it again. Good luck!" With that he went to sit at the bar. Past Brandon also handed over his Pokemon. "I'd help, but you're better than I am anyway, so I'll just sit and watch. Maybe I'll learn something!" With that he grabbed a seat near the edge of the fighting arena, leaving Current Brandon on his own.

Sighing, Brandon muttered, "I hate time travel," and looked at the nine Pokeballs he now had. He could tell that his past and future selves had brought the same Pokemon he had, but from their own time periods. Seeing that Tort and his own past and future selves had already sent out their Pokemon, Brandon decided to do the same. "Alright, future me's Pokemon are probably really strong, so I may as well save them for later. Right now, let's go with past Shellstrike, past Flamestrike, and present Flamestrike!" Selecting the three Pokeballs, he sent out the three. His Magmortar he was used to, but seeing Tirtouga and Magby again after so long felt weird, and a thought crossed his mind. "Are you guys sure your Pokemon will obey me?" he asked his past and future selves. Future Brandon replied with a sigh, "Duh, they're your Pokemon!" Past Brandon just shrugged, so Current Brandon gave his orders. "Alright guys, this might get confusing, but we'll figure it out! Past Flamestrike, start off with a ThunderPunch on the Tomohawk, then set up a Sunny Day! Present Flamestrike, Fire Blast the Scylant, then Thunderbolt the Tomohawk! Past Shellstrike, use a Rock Throw on Scylant to activate Mountaineer, then hammer it with a Stone Edge! Past Flamestrike, if you're Taunted on that Sunny Day then Fire Punch the Scylant instead! Past Shellstrike, if Mountaineer wasn't activated action 1 then use a Body Slam instead!"

Summary that's actually neccessary for a change:
Past Flamestrike: ThunderPunch(Future Scratchet) -> Sunny Day
Replace Sunny Day with Fire Punch (Present Syclant) if you are Taunted
Present Flamestrike: Fire Blast(Present Syclant) -> Thunderbolt(Future Scratchet)
Past Shellstrike: Rock Throw(Present Syclant) -> Stone Edge(Present Syclant)
Replace Stone Edge with Body Slam(Present Syclant) if Mountaineer wasn't activated action 1

Had fun with the RPing on this one :) Also Flora I just realized I made a mistake, future Heracross should have 5/5 DC. Sorry about that.

Of course, Victor had similar issues. He could have sworn he'd only gotten that Scratchet from the prize claiming thread a few days ago, yet here was his 3-years-younger self, still as odd of a teen as then, having Scratchet, Syclar, and Spheal with him.

"I'm going to try the super-spicy roasted celery-it's apparently this alternate universe's special."

His older self, a wiser, clean-shaven man of about 25, simply handed present Victor three more Pokeballs.

"By the way-next gen, Luvdisc gets an ability called Love Wing. It gives 'Disc a +1 boost to every stat each turn-it's pretty awesome. You should try it out someday. Anyways, I'll be having some Delibird wings over there if you need me."

Both of them left to do their own thing. Present Victor, the somewhat awkward college student and gym leader candidate in the crossroads of life, observed his options. Future Victor had been good at ASB and had gotten all the moves for Syclant possible, along with evolving Scratchet and Sealeo and getting all their moves. The badge he was wearing, shaped like a vat of liquid nitrogen, indicated that he had indeed been chosen as Ice-type gym leader. Present Victor heaved a sigh of relief.

Either way, he decided to send out Scratchet, the present iteration of Syclant, and-because he was curious-future Tomohawk.

"Freeze- PROTECT YOURSELF! After that, Earth Power at Magmortar!
Past Flight- Toxic Magmortar, then Yawn at Magby!
Future Flight- Earth Power Magmortar, then Protect!"

ROUND 1: WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?

Flora watches from behind the scenes a soon-to-be what the hell is this match. This HAS to be crazier than Sparta! I don't even know - Love Wing? Delibird Wings? PEOPLE FROM THE PAST AND FUTURE? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

A1

Present Freeze: With hands quicker than anyone else available, Freeze sets up a Protect that shields himself from any danger.
Past Flight: Can you just say "adorable"? I sure can! But he's not cute when he blows some Toxic air into Present Flamestrike's mouth and intoxicates him! What a Prankster!
Future Flight: Like a hawk, Flight glares at Present Flamestrike with a worried eye and conjures a Earth Power from the ground under him to spray cross his body with earthen lava.
Past Flamestrike: Seeing the cuddliness that is Future Flight, he angers in competition and jumps in for a ThunderPunch! Looks like those feathers are more of a disadvantage here!
Present Flamestrike: Big bro Present Flamestrike blasts some fire over at Freeze in a desperate attempt to KO him, but it's completely blocked from his Protect!
Past Shellstrike: Look! Rocks! Shellstrikes creeps near some random rocks and throws them at Present Freeze... only to be blocked by a Protect. :(

A2

Future Flight: Future Flight decides to mimic Present Freeze and Protect himself this time!
Past Flight: To Past Flamestrike, Past Flight gives him a loud Yawn that inflicts him with a drowsy state. Uh-oh!
Present Freeze: Hey! It looks like Present Freeze is ready to fight now! He helps apply pressure onto Present Flamestrike by summoning a Earth Power through the same hole that Future Flight's one did. It erupts and Present Flamestrike is deeply wounded from the attack!
Past Flamestrike: Deciding that there's just not enough sun in everyone's day today, Past Flamestrike uses his Sunny Day skills to greet everyone with some comfortable warmth!
Present Flamestrike: Present Flamestrike's eyes seem to be attached to Future Flight's! He attempts to lay a Thunderbolt into his feathers, but a Protect just had to be in the way.
Past Shellstrike: Seeing how Present Syclant is open, Past Shellstrike continues to pummel him, this time with a Body Slam! He captures his icy body reeeeally good! It seems the weight of the turtle has paralyzed the little sly icy creature!

ROUND 2: MORE! I WANT MORE!

A1

Past Flight: Being the prankster he is, Past Flight gets off a super swift Taunt at Present Flamestrike to stop any nasty tricks from happening.
Future Flight: Having a grudge against Present Flamestrike, Future Flight makes the ground underneath Present Flamestrike tremble once again and makes a blast of Earth Power skyward onto the fire Pokemon's bottom area!
Past Flamestrike: With the help of Sunny Day, Past Flamestrike feels the power flowing within him and crushes Present Freeze with a Fire Punch of death! Well, that's 1/4 of his HP gone!
Present Flamestrike: Present Flamestrike joins rank with his little son and, from his cannonarm, shoots a Fire Blast straight at the slowed Present Freeze, which incinerates the little bug! Strangely enough, Present Freeze manages to survive the horrible blast!
Present Freeze: By the looks of it, Present Freeze manages to get over his paralysis and repel back by striking Present Flamestrike with a delicious Earth Power! The earth's might rages at Present Flamestrike's foots with terrifying squirts of lava and earth.
Past Shellstrike: Seeing how Present Freeze is somehow still alive, Past Shellstrike decides to Crunch his butt. The Crunch shatters so much ice layers that Present Freeze cries in ant pain and faints like the little bug he is.

A2

Future Flight: Future Flight grabs some random piece of grass on the arena, wraps it into a knot, and trips Past Shellstrike with it! That must've hurt! No Sturdy + Solid Rock combination can save him from THAT much damage!
Past Flamestrike: Angry at Future Flight for tripping his dear friend, Past Flamestrike runs over to Future Flight and slams a ThunderPunch to his face!
Present Flamestrike: Even more angry than Past FlameStrike, Present Flamestrike unleashes a bolt of thunder from his body that shocks Future Flight with intense force!
Past Shellstrike: Angrier than angry, Past Shellstrike throws a Stone's Edge at Future Flight some serious damage! There's blood twinkling down now...
Past Flight: With all his force, Past Flight Roars loudly at Present Flamestrike for his meanness. Present Flamestrike immediately craps his pants and returns to his owner's Pokeball.

---------------------------------------------------------

Note about Roar: In-game, the Pokemon switching in is chosen at random, but it doesn't clearly state that in ASB Roar's description so I'm not exactly sure what I'm supposed to do. I guess I'll follow in-game if all else fails.

Flamestrike gets Beetlestrike (Past).

Tortferngatr's new Pokemon then Flamestrike's actions! After that, Tort's actions!

Doesn't Toxic damage reset when I switch out? :/ Also every other ref I've seen has done Sturdy/Solid Rock before SE but you're the head ref so it's up to you lol (should probably be specified in SotG at some point though).

"Let's keep at it! Past Flamestrike, lead off with a Psychic on Tomohawk, then a ThunderPunch on Tomohawk! Past Beetlestrike, hit Tomohawk with a Aerial Ace, then a Double-Edge! Past Shellstrike, Body Slam Tomohawk, then hit him with a Stone Edge! If Rain Dance is active, change your attack to Waterfall! Once he's KOed, we'll start on Syclant!"

Summary:
Past Flamestrike: Psychic(Tomohawk) -> ThunderPunch(Tomohawk)
Past Beetlestrike: Aerial Ace(Tomohawk) -> Double-Edge(Tomohawk)
Past Shellstrike: Body Slam(Tomohawk) -> Stone Edge(Tomohawk)
Replace Stone Edge with Waterfall if Rain Dance is active

Once/if Tomohawk is KOed, actions change to the following:
Past Flamestrike: Ember(Syclant) -> Fire Punch(Syclant)
Past Beetlestrike: Aerial Ace(Syclant) -> Double-Edge(Syclant)
Past Shellstrike: Crunch(Syclant) -> Body Slam(Syclant)

EDIT: According to Deck Sturdy and Solid Rock are indeed applied to BAP and not final damage.

EDIT REDUX: Yeah my ability summary is out of date, the new one in the Data Audit Thread specifies BAP. Sorry :(

Floraedit: Okay, that's all fixed up, thanks!

Past Flight: Look! Past Flight's spreading his AIDs... err Toxic! Past Flamestrike+! Another hacker?
Future Freeze: Future Freeze eyeballs down Past Beetlestrike like a hawk and strikes him with a cruel Acrobatics attack! Dual weakness hit! Ouch!
Past Beetlestrike: Bugs. :( Past Beetlestrike strikes Future Flight with a sharp Aerial Ace strike of strikerdoom. Ehhhhh, too bad Aerial Ace has such crap base attack power!
Past Flamestrike: Wow! Past Flamestrike has found a use for Psychic! He targets Future Flight with the mental assault and deals a great bunch of damage!
Past Shellstrike: I know what Past Shellstrike's thinking. He's thinking of Body Slamming Future Flight! There he goes, slamming his turtle shell onto the bird, crippling him with a 20% paralysis!

Past Flamestrike suddenly falls onto the ground, asleep! That's 2-actions folks!

A2

Future Flight: Despite the paralysis, Future Flight uses his natural instincts and sets up a swift Protect. Uh-oh...
Past Flight: I think Past Shellstrike got the toxic cuddies as well... DARN YOU PAST FLIGHT!
Future Freeze: Our favorite Future Freeze continues the aerial assault by slicing Past Beetlestrike like an ace pilot. Past Beetlestrike owie!
Past Flamestrike: zzz
Past Beetlestrike: Sadly, Past Beetlestrike attempts to Double-Edge Future Flight, only to be blocked by the accursed Protect!
Past Shellstrike: Stone Edge blocked by Protect... sosadbanghead=.=

Sunny for 2 more rounds!

Tortferngatr's actions!

(and feel free to correct mistakes)

"Future Freeze: Acrobatics on Heracross, then Earth Power Magby!
If Heracross isn't beaten turn 1, use Aerial Ace on him!

Future Flight: Hurricane on Heracross, then Roost!

Past Flight: Yawn at Tirtouga, then Rock Smash Tirtouga!"

Gonna point out that it should be past Flamestrike poisoned, not past Beetlestrike (I wish I has Guts activated :( )

Brandon sighed. As much as he wanted to save his past Heracross, fainting Tomohawk and getting rid of Reflect were priorities. "OK, let's go! Past Flamestrike, enjoy your nap, then hit that Syclant hard with Fire Punch! Past Beetlestrike, use a Brick Break on Tomohawk to destroy its Reflect and weaken it, then if you're still standing Endure that Aerial Ace! Past Shellstrike, start with a Waterfall on Tomohawk to finish it off, then hit Syclant with a Body Slam!"

Summary:
Past Flamestrike: zzz -> Fire Punch(Syclant)
Past Beetlestrike: Brick Break(Tomohawk) -> Endure
Past Shellstrike: Waterfall(Tomohawk) -> Body Slam(Syclant)

Apparently if Brick Break breaks Reflect it does its full damage, who knew?

Sigh, apparently we aren't allowed to use our tournament Pokemon outside the tournament, so this battle needs to be cancelled. I'm really sorry Tort, this was an awesome battle and we'll have to try it again :(

...yes, we are allowed to use tourney mons outside the tourney.

Just not on roleplaying. Battle isn't cancelled.

IRC confirmation from Deck:

22:51 Tortferngatr BTW, what is the status of mon use outside the tournament?
22:52 Deck_Knight Timelines are separated, so you can use them, you just can't import/export any moves gained in the tourney

Eh, that's not what the people in charge of the tournament said, but I'm not complaining. Sorry about the fuss, let the awesome match continue! :)

Sunny for 1 more round!

edit: you're right.

Tort's new Pokemon
Flame's new Pokemon and actions
Tort's actions

A quick test on my DS confirms that Brick Break does full damage after breaking Reflect. Also since we both need to send out a new Pokemon how does the order work? Obviously I can't really order till he sends something out so yeah...

Current Brandon grabbed one of his own Pokeballs after recalling his past Heracross. "Alright, I know you're still hurting, but let's go current Flamestrike!" The Magmortar hit the field again, looking a bit hurt but still ready to fight. "OK, current Flamestrike first I want you to Fire Blast that Syclant, then Fire Blast the Scratchet! Past Flamestrike, Fire Punch the Syclant, then Psychic the Scratchet! Past Shellstrike, Stone Edge the Sealeo, then Body Slam the Scratchet! If Syclant uses Protect on the first action, then switch the order of the actions for both Flamestrikes!"

Summary:
Past Flamestrike: Fire Punch(Syclant) -> Psychic(Scratchet)
Present Flamestrike: Fire Blast(Syclant) -> Fire Blast(Scratchet)
Past Shellstrike: Stone Edge(Sealeo) -> Body Slam(Scratchet)

If Syclant uses Protect on the first action then switch the order of the actions for past and present Flamestrike

Briefly doing the mental math, he calculated that even if Magmortar got a critical hit, he wouldn't be able to break a Substitute of 23 hitpoints. Perfect stratagem, then. Additionally, he calculated that Rock Slide, combined with 1 round of Toxic damage and Syclant's Technician Water Pulse, would do exactly enough to defeat Magmortar. It was settled, then.

"Future Freeze: Protect, then Water Pulse Magmortar!
Flotsam: Rock Slide-Magby and Magmortar seem too slow to flee! After that, fire a Blizzard at them!
Past Flight: Make a 23% HP Substitute, then chill!"

And yes, Flamestrike let me go 1 day over DQ. Confirmed via IRC.

Flame's new Pokemon and then Tort's new Pokemon and actions!

Brandon withdrew his Magmortar. Flamestrike had done exactly what it needed to do in taking down the two Syclants, and with Tomohawk also out of the way Beetlestrike was largely unopposed. "Let's go Present Beetlestrike, let's lay the hurt on them!"

...Add weather to the things I need to continuously keep an eye on-if only I'd Earth Powered, Syclant would still be unfainted to Acrobatics Heracross out of the air, thought present Victor.

Agh, can't believe I made that mistake as a freshman to battles, thought future Victor, who had looked up from his food to notice his past self's mistake.

"I suspect I'll lose this, but the battle isn't over yet!" spoke present Victor. "Go, Future Flotsam!"
"By the way, Flotsam's Hidden Power turned out to be Flying, base 7!" spoke future Victor.

Past Flight: Rock Smash Magby, then Roost!
Future Flotsam: Hidden Power Heracross, then Rock Slide them!
Present Flotsam: Rock Slide, then Waterfall Magby!
