Have you played Town of Salem and wondered what the setup would be like in a forum environment? Well, here's your chance to find out! For those who don't know, Town of Salem is a real time version of Mafia played on blankmediagames.com/townofsalem and while it has its issues, the ranked setup manages to be relatively competitive. Here is where we see how it works on a forum!

Game setup:
Jailor
Town Investigative (can be investigator, lookout, or sheriff)
Town Investigative (can be investigator, lookout, or sheriff)
Town Support (can be escort, retributionist, or transporter)
Town Support (can be escort, retributionist, or transporter)
Town Protective (can be bodyguard or doctor)
Town Killing (can be vampire hunter in a vampire game, veteran, or vigilante)
Random Town (can be any town role bar a second jailor)
Godfather
Mafioso
Random Mafia (can be any mafia role)
Neutral Killing (can be arsonist, serial killer, or werewolf)
Neutral Evil (can be executioner, jester, or witch)
Neutral Benign (can be amnesiac or survivor)
Any (can be vanilla town, mafioso, or a unique [not one already in play ie there can't be two jesters] neutral)

Town aligned
  • Jailor picks one person. They are allowed to have real time chat with that person for 2 minutes supervised by me on ps, and I will organize it via our pms to maintain anonymity. They will be on alts. During that 2 minutes the last bolded decision (hang/don't hang) will be valid. The Jailor can hang up to 3 times and if they mishang someone they will be unable to hang someone again. If the Jailor decides to not hang a jailed serial killer they will be killed. You are roleblocked and night immune while in jail.
  • Investigator is the same as tos. They will select someone to investigate and will be returned with different possible roles
  • Lookout is the same as tos. Choose someone and you will see if and who visits them that night.
  • Sheriff will return with either not suspicious or suspicious. Suspicious only applies to mafia and neutral killing though; other neutrals will come up as not suspicious in order to balance the role.
  • Escort is the same as tos. Choose someone to roleblock each night. If you choose a serial killer you will be killed although they will be role blocked for the night.
  • Retributionist is the same as tos. They may revive someone once and are vanilla town after that.
  • Transporter may choose 2 people and swap their locations. They may do this a total of 4 times throughout the game. For example: if player 1 and 2 are transported with each other and player 3 targets player 2, player 1 will be targetted instead.
  • Bodyguard is the same as tos. Every night they can choose someone to protect. If that person is targeted by scum the scum and the Bodyguard will both die. The Bodyguard may self target once.
  • Doctor is the same as tos. Every night they may choose one person to heal. That person will be immune from everything fatal besides being doused (but will prevent a doused target being ignited). They may self heal once.
  • Vampire Hunter will only appear if there are vampires, and one is guaranteed to appear if there are. They may choose one person to stalk each night and if they are a vampire they will be staked. Immune to vampire bites. Will transform into a vigilante once all vampires are killed.
  • Veteran is the same as tos. They may go on alert 3 times per game. When on alert anyone who visits them during night will die.
  • Vigilante has 3 bullets. They may select someone to shoot each night. If they kill a townie they will die from guilt after the following day ends.
Spy and mayor are removed because the former iisn't feasible and the latter is probably too good for this although I'd be willing to consider a possible mayor. Town can only win with neutral benign and town alive.

Mafia roles
  • Godfather is the head of the mafia. They are night immune and cannot be detected by sheriffs.
  • Mafioso is basically vanilla mafia. They will kill whoever the godfather targets in order to keep him safe while capable and while both are alive only one being roleblocked means the other will carry out the kill.
  • Framer is the same as in tos. They may choose someone each night and if that someone is investigated they will appear as mafia.
  • Janitor can choose someone each night to clean. If that person dies their role will not be revealed to the town.
  • Consiglier is a mafia clone of investigator. They will see the same result pools investigator does.
  • Consort may choose someone each night to roleblock. They cannot be roleblocked.
Other mafia roles removed. Mafia can win with neutral evil and neutral benign roles alive.

Neutral roles
  • Arsonist is the same as tos. They can either choose to ignite a target or douse all ignited targets. Igniting bypasses night immunity. Night immunity. Can only win with survivors and witches still alive.
  • Serial killer is the same as tos. May choose one person to kill each night. Night immune. Can only win with other Serial killers, survivors, and witches.
  • Werewolf is the same as tos. They may choose one person every other night and go on a rampage at their house. Anyone who visits that person will also die. Night immune and bypasses night immunity on everyone excluding someone else in jail, however the jail or will die for jailing that person at the end of the night.
  • Executioner receives one town member as their target. They win if they can get that town member lynched. One they win they can stay in the game and do what they please; their win will not be announced and they can choose to claim it but claims will not be verified by the host. This town member can not be jailor or mayor. Night immune. If their target is killed at night they will turn into a jester.
  • Jester wins if they get lynched. It is a loss if you are killed at night. After being lynched you can choose one of the people who voted to lynch you to kill from the grave, bypassing all immunities.
  • Witch wins when all town die. They will not be alerted of this though. Witch can win with any scum or neutral. Every night witch chooses one person and controls them to target one other person instead of whoever they'd want to target. Yes, this means you can do fun stuff like making a jailor hang someone or making vig kill themselves.
  • Amnesiacs can not win until they perform their action. One night and amnesiac can select one person who died and come back as their role. If they are lynched or killed before they remember they lose.
  • Survivor needs to survive until the game is complete to win. They can win with anyone. They are allowed to vest 3 times, and while vested they have night immunity.
  • Vampire can only be selected by the Any role. They can only win with survivors, witches, and vampires. Every other night a vampire can bite someone. That person becomes a vampire. Vampires can not affect night immune people.

Rules:

1. Voting must be in the format "VOTE: user". If it is an acronym or some shortening, such as calling Former Hope FH, that is fine. Votes not bolded or out of those format will not count. Unvoting is required but just saying "unvote and VOTE: user" is fine.

2. Majority is required to lynch. If nobody reaches majority the day automatically results in a no lynch. The day will be automatically ended if someone gains majority during the day.

3. DO NOT EDIT YOUR POST. I DON'T CARE IF YOU SLIP AND POST YOUR ROLE PM. DO. NOT. EDIT.

4. Do not discuss the game in any outside channel. This includes dead people because a retributionist is likely. If I create a chat you are free to speak in it with the participants.

5. Day phases will be 72 hours. Night phases will be 24 hours. You can not vote extension unless there is a significant reason. Furthermore, since nearly everybody will have a night action, send in idle if that's what you're doing. I expect a pm from every player with an action.

6. There's no hard guideline, but please don't sign up and idle. There is no hard posting requirement but I will sub idle players actively and blacklist them permanently from my future games. Mafia only works with activity, don't ruin it for everyone.

7. Do not copy/paste anything sent to you by me, this includes but is not limited to role pms. Claiming your role name will be enough since general role info is posted in the OP though.

8. If you need help claiming use the ToS wiki for your role, the strategy section should be pretty helpful. This is allowed.

9. Mafia does not have daychat, true to ToS.

Banned deucer.
if theres a player that i know will tilt me in this game it will be haruno. for a tactical random vote, im throwing my vote behind him

vote: haruno

to kick off some discussion in this thread: what do you guys think about claiming? Should we early mass claim or wait until we have more results before we each individually speak up and share what we have whilst claiming? I think theres merit to both methods.

unvotevote: King_

Asek ; my inclination would be to not claim straight away, because if we did some people would be able to hide behind 'working out the game' and it'd be hard to tell the difference between town and scum doing that, especially when scum are more aware of what's a fake claim (their claims) and what's not. I guess I'm laying out that I'd like to stick to scumhunting based on posting for now and having something to start off with, but knowing claiming will be necessary and good at some point and regardless will happen eventually it's something to keep talking about but not focus on yet?

I will not be voting as I have no idea who I should target but I guess we should and will lynch someone anyway. I do find Gronkasaurus' post suspicious but maybe that's just me not knowing him and being paranoid.

I also agree with village info roles waiting til D3 /D4 to claim unless they find something big.
Carry on with your businesses gentlemen.

Everyone should claim before getting lynched. Everyone should also claim approx D3 or if you have a guilty.

There, we don't need to spend time on gamespec anymore

I'm not willing to slam asek for considering early massclaim because this setup really really rewards massclaim but it's suicide to make a bunch of claims when no one has results of any kind, even if scum are forced to commit.

Regardless, this is not a "claim in LYLO" kind of setup but rather one where being observant about context and forcing the claiming process in the midgame is almost certainly correct.

Also as an aside gamespec is the single most unreliable scumhunting tool in the universe because people will say what they truly believe and get townpoints.

Moody cloud it's a mistake to believe you're committed to your vote especially at this stage so go with your gut. Try thinking about why you think gronk may be suspicious and spelling it out along with your possible biases as clearly as possible. I don't know him so your testimony is helpful.

Only gut read I have now is Haruno breaks slight town.
