The ASB Tournament Arena

Surrounded by thousands of screaming Pokemon fans, the ASB Arena can be best described as a standard Pokemon battling arena. In the center of the arena lies a dirt-based floor outlined to show two separate sides (with a white Pokeball center). Surrounding the dirt is a moat filled with water. The moat is about fifteen feet wide and creates a perimeter around the dirt arena. The arena itself is eighty feet wide, one hundred feet long. All moves, weathers, and abilities are legal for the match, since it's an outdoor arena with a large water source and packed dirt. Pokemon must stay in the arena (or the dimensions of the arena in the case of Flying Pokemon, who cannot leave the arena and cannot fly higher than sixty feet). This prevents Pokemon from injuring the crowd watching the tournament. There are no outside interruptions by fans, Pokemon, or other elements not associated with the current battle.

Okay my lovely ghoul, begin this whole thing with a Taunt. We don't want this thing trying anything sneaky on us. Then fire off a nasty Thunderbolt at it, and finish off with a Psychic for good measure.

IF IT USES SHADOW BALL, replace the following action with Disable! (IE: If it uses Shadow Ball on the first turn, replace Thunderbolt.)

For a moment, there was silence.
"Breezi... Breez?" You've got to be fucking kidding me. That thing's terrifying.
"Look Breezi, I mean, I believe in you! It's always worked for Ash. Let's just give it a go alright? Remember Aragorn's speech from LOTR: "My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me! A day may come, when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of Fellowship, but it is not this day!"
"Breezi!" "If I die, my ghost is soooo haunting you forever. And remember, I have encore. Feel like being forced to shit continuously 30 times in one day? I didn't think so.

Alright Breezi! Let's do our best. Start things off with a Shadow Ball, followed by an Earth Power, then wrap things up with an Air Slash!

edit (1:22 AM): I already posted my actions so this unrelated/too late but could I hypothetically have done a combined move of, say, Shadow Ball and Yawn for a "sleepy shadow ball" without violating the rules of taunt, as it still would have been a damaging move, just one with a secondary effect?

The crowd is going wild: cheers come from around the stadium for both competitors, and the atmosphere is just electric in the arena. In the midst of all of this, both competitors finally release their first Pokemon: Allergy the Gengar for Darkslay and Zephyr the Breezi for TravelLog. This begins the first CAP ASB tournament for both competitors and the crowd, and every watches in trepidation as the Pokemon take their places on opposite sides of the field. They sit silently, watching each other, and the trainers frantically shout orders, and eventually the battle proper starts. DarkSlay's Allergy begins the tournament, staying over its side of the arena and simply Taunting from afar. It shouts and calls at Zephyr, and in fact it so enrages Zephyr that it is rendered completely unable to do anything but attack for some time (10 Energy, Taunt for six turns). When it is finished, Zephyr takes the initiative and summons up shadows from all over the stadium, gathering them all up into a strange ball of darkness in front of it. The ball grows and grows, and eventually Zephyr stops focusing on gethering shadows and makes a large movement forward, causing the Spirit Bomb Shadow Ball to move quickly over towards Allergy, and as it eventually makes contact, it hits Gengar very hard because they are both made of similar shadow. It is super effective, and hurts Gengar so badly that he drops his defenses a little bit, leaving him very exposed for later (6 Energy, (8 + 1.5) * 1.5 = 14 Damage, -1 Special Defense)

Then, Gengar, after recovering from the hefty blow, straightens back up and concentrates intently on the mind of Zephyr, to the exclusion of all else in the stadium. It mentally Disables Zephyr's ability to cast shadow ball like the one before, leaving it having to resort to other attacks instead (6 Energy, Shadow Ball disabled for six actions). However, Zephyr still takes the opportunity to use its Earth Power to open up a crack in the earth, out of which weird light pours and hits Allergy, overcoming his natural levitation to hit him in midair, taking advantage of his lowered defenses to deliver abother big blow, and knocking him sideways a fair way because of the force of the hit (7 Energy, (9 + 1.5) * 1.5 + 1.5 = 17 Damage).

Finally, Gengar decides to attack outright, once again stopping to attack Zephyr with his mind, but this time throwing him around the arena with Psychic energy. He is thrown around into the moat, onto the ground and eventually thrust into the earth where he was before, hurting him very badly and taking away some of the edge that he had before (7 - 1 = 6 Energy, (9 + 4.5) * 1.5 = 20 Damage). However, Allergy loses no time in attacking back, thrusting its parachute (?) around quickly so that an Air Slash moves down the field, but fortunately for Allergy he manages to dodge at the last minute, meaning that the attack misses him completely, and just carries on to dissipate against the wall at the end of the stadium (6 - 1 = 5 Energy). The round over, the crowd goes once again, the hush that crept over them as the battle ensued completely forgotten. Everything looks reasonably even at the moment, and it will certainly be interesting to see what happens going into the second round. TravelLog, your instructions please!

I know, it was more of a theoretical question. Anyway...

Great job Zephyr, you're doing great so far. Let's hit him with another earth power. Follow that up with an Air slash and finish the round up with a final earth power!

Okay, no more games Allergy. Let's show our opponent that we like attack patterns too! Time to dish out the pain.

Thunderbolt on the first turn, then Psychic on the second, and finish up with another Thunderbolt. That should deal heavy damage!

And so we come back for the second round, and amongst the cheers and cries from the crowd, it looks like both Pokemon are coming out all guns blazing, ready to just trade some hard-hitting attacks. Once again, the round begins with Allergy the Gengar, who decides this time to launch a huge Thunderbolt from mid-air in front of it, which flies towards Zephyr the Breezi. It passes straight through, electrocuting him badly on the way, and eventually reaches the other side of the stadium, where it collides with the walls with a small explosion (7 Energy, (10 + 4.5) * 1.5 = 22 Damage). The crowd goes wild after the action explosion, the tension of a new round over, but once again quietens down as Zephyr begins to glow yellow again. It stays like this for some time, but eventually the ground suddenly splits open and the same light pours out under Allergy, engulfing her with Zephyr's Earth Power and hurting her surprisingly badly once again (7 Energy, (9 + 1.5) * 1.5 + 1.5 = 17 Damage).

Then, Gengar, from within the remnants of the light still lingering from before, suddenly sends out a Psychic pulse through the air, which the spectators can see travelling at an immense speed straight into Zephyr. It connects, and suddenly Zephyr's body is animated by some ghostly force, leaving him unable to control himself as he flies around the stadium, once again knocking into and through things as he is thrust against them. Finally, he is thrown back to the ground where he was (7 - 1 = 6 Energy, (9 + 4.5) * 1.5 = 20 Damage). Zephyr responds by letting off another Air Slash at Allergy, which cascades across the stadium, this time staying true and hitting Gengar full-on. It blows the light Allergy back across the stadium to the wall, pounding her the whole time, before Gengar is pushed back into the wall and the pulse in the air dissipates against the walls (6 - 1 = 5 Energy, 8 + 3 + 1.5 + 1.5 = 14 Damage).

This last attack from Zephyr left the two opponents perfectly evenly matched, but Gengar now floats out of the wall, looking angry. Its eyes glint red, and suddenly a huge Thunderbolt comes down from the sky and strikes Zephyr before anyone can react. It electrocutes him badly, and almost knocks him out completely (7 Energy, (10 + 4.5) * 1.5 = 22 Damage). Finally, Zephyr resondsby letting off his Earth Power once again in a huge display near Allergy, and this too almost knocks her out completely (7 Energy, (9 + 1.5) * 1.5 + 1.5 = 17 Damage). This leaves the battle incredibly even: each Pokemon will probably be knocked out by their opponent's next attack, so it looks like Gengar has this matchup in the bag. Can Zephyr do anything to stop Allergy? We'lll have to wait for next episode of Pokemon: TravelLog vs. DarkSlay to find out!

Well, we're faster Allergy, so guess this is the end for the little Breezi.

Psychic until it drops. It fought valiantly, though, so props for that!

Try to dodge by using an air slash with backward momentum (no idea if this is a viable thing, if not, just launch air slash normally (aka die), then if that works, and I'm sure it won't use wish x2

edit @5:48: it occurs to me that dodge/air slash is a combo. So in that case only one wish

It is the next round, and the crowd is cheering for a killing blow from one of the spectators. Allergy the Gengar gets up to deliver a final blow, easily outspeeding Zephyr, and despite Zephyr's valiant efforts to dodge, and small fraction of the Psychic attack hits, just managing to do enough damage to knock him out, leaving DarkSlay up 1-0 (7 - 1 = 6 Energy, > 6 Damage). To save time, I will release TravelLog's next Pokemon: Newgate the Privatike. This means that DarkSlay is once again giving instructions first, but now from seemingly a winning position. Okay, time to be tricky. Very, very tricky. Allergy, let's see if our plan works!

Okay, start off the round with a Pain Split! You will like the nice health recovery from that. Then thanks to your nature, use a highly accurate Will-O-Wisp to give this thing a burn it will never forget, preferably on its arms! Lastly, finish up with a Thunderbolt for pressure.

If it uses Protect on turn one, simply take advantage of Protect's priority and instead use a move that goes straight through Protect: Perish Song! It will have to choose: does it want to die in three rounds, or does it want to face a near healthy Gengar?

Well I'd prefer for you to get a KO counter so let's use protect centered on your EARS as perish song is audio-based, followed by Hydro Pump. If he isn't dead yet use hydro pump again. Otherwise, lay down a smokescreen to give us a chance to not be embarrassingly annihilated by conkeldurr.

Great job DarkSlay, I hope I put up a good fight considering my unevolved pokes (one less damage on my Breezi and it would have gotten you're Gengar! :D)

We've come back for a new round, but it looks like it will be very short-lived as Allergy comes in to it very badly hurt, and he looks like a very small blow would be able to take him out now. However, Newgate begins the round by Protecting itself from oncoming attacks with a strange forcefield around him, and it is centred around his ears (7 Energy). However, Allergy begins a Perish Song around the field, which it directs at Newgate particularly, and as a result the sound waves go straight through the barrier and cuts down his life to just a few rounds (15 Energy). Finally, Allergy lets off a ghostly Will-o-wisp as its last attack before it goes, and it badly burns Newgate, leaving it crippled for the rest of the round (7 - 1 = 6 Energy). However, Newgate lets off a huge Hydro Pump at it, which demolishes it completely and leaves the scores tied once more (8 - 1 = 7 Energy, 12 + 3 - 3 = 12 Damage). This means that DarkSlay now needs to release his final Pokemon, which to save time I will do for him: Lumber the Conkeldurr. His stats are below. Off you go, TravelLog!

Lumber the Conkeldurr

Woot! Time to lose with Style! Listen up Newgate: it's time to avenge Zephyr. And for you, Lumber, hear this:
Voila! In view humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the “vox populi” now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin, van guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.
The only verdict is vengeance!

Get things going with a yawn followed by an Ice Punch centered on his arms (if he detects/protects the first yawn, us it again in place of ice punch). Finally, close out the round with a Poison Jab!

All right Lumber, it's time to finish the job. I don't mind you falling asleep on the second action of next round (it will die by then). We actually have a way of avoiding both Yawns, but it's whatever right now.

Lumber, use Detect to stall out the Yawn (and to make him use it twice in a row!), then wind up a strong Iron Fist-boosted Focus Punch at the little pirate as it Yawns at you. Then, finish off the round with a strong Iron Fist-boosted Hammer Arm!

Thanks for being a good opponent. You have a lot of potential, and I can't wait to see what you do next time you're in the spotlight!

And so we finally come back to a new 1v1 to decide the match. DarkSlay looks like he has the upper hand, what with Newgate's rapidly deminishing Perish Count, and so time is very much of the essence for Newgate. Cheered on by a crowd who has swapped sides completely after the dastardly moves of DarkSlay last round, he rushes over with the intent to Yawn at him from close range, to try to lull him to sleep (7 Energy). However, Lumber creates another bizarre forcefield around himself, Detecting the attack at the last minute and manages to dodge it completely (7 Energy).

Then, Newgate, not discouraged by his lack of success last round, goes after Lumber with another Yawn (11 Energy). All Lumber manages before it hits is to start focussing intently on its hand, ready to deliver a colossal punch soon. Then, as Newgate finally gets the attack to hit, Conkeldurr responds immediately with a terrific Focus Punch, which pounds Newgate thanks to a full action's concentration, and leaves him hurt badly (8 Energy, 23 Damage).

Finally, Newgate gets around to actually attacking, hitting Lumber with a powerful Poison Jab, which coats Lumber with toxic venom and actually leaves him poisoned for the rest of the match (6 Energy, 7 Damage). However, Lumber can then hit back hard with a powerful Hammer Arm, which again knocks Newgate around a lot (6 Energy, 18 Damage). This leaves the round over, and after each Pokemon takes some passive damage, the clock ticks down on Newgate's longevity. He only has one more round in which to try to win this battle, so it looks like ggs for all. Last orders please, DarkSlay!

And so we come to what dan only be the last round of the battle. Lumber is about to fall asleep and is poisoned, Newgate is badly burned and has a perish count of just one, and time seems to be slowing down as the battle nears its close. The crowd is still going wild, but all attention is so focused on the arena that nobody cares, and the Pokemon look fiercly at each other from across the arena. The round once again begins with Conkeldurr, who, despite being just on the point of falling asleep thanks to Newgate's antics last round, manages to get off a devastating Drain Punch straight into Newgate, draining energy through his fist as he pummels him from up close (7 Energy, 16 Damage, 8 Healing). In responce, Newgate just begins a furious onslaught of Hydro Pumps, nailing Lumber in a furious attempt to knock it out before the deadline set by Gengar before (7 Energy, 11 Damage). Finally, Lumber can stand it no more and collapses into a deep sleep on the side of the field, and it looks like he will stay there for the rest of the match.

This leaves Newgate open to just attack furiously with more and more Hydro Pumps, throwing Lumber around the arena with great torrents of water, and throwing him up against walls, desperately trying to finish him off before the end of the round (11 Energy, 11 Damage). However, the first Hydro Pump actually hits so hard that it wakes Lumber up for the end of the round, leaving both Pokemon facing off going into the end of the match.

Finally, Lumber stops really trying to win the battle by force, and merely Leers at Newgate, leaving it with reduced defences but otherwise unharmed (4 Energy). And at last, Lewgate puts all of his remaining energies into one final Hydro Pump before he is finished at the end of the round, blowing Lumber around the area again, but unfortunately not quite finishing off Lumber (15 Energy, 11 Damage). This leaves the round, over, and finally, as Lumber is slightly pained due to his poison, Newgate, on the other side of the arena, suddenly collapses, his time up completely. He passes out, and this leaves Lumber the only Pokemon left able to battle, so DarkSlay Wins! Well done to both players, especially TravelLog, who put up very a good fight considering how outmatched his Pokemon were. I'll post the prizes below.
