Turn XIII (OU Warstory)

Hello all. I believe you should recognize me from Felerial's warstory Down to the Wire! That's right, I'm Eon King.

This battle was a random ladder match, but it was also an intense battle and although not quite as close as my battle with Felerial, it's still an excellent match.

Eon King sent out Mamoswine (lvl 100 Mamoswine ?).
PI-Dimension sent out Azelf (lvl 100 Azelf).

Mamoswine vs. Azelf, eh? Of course, it would be one of the few leads that Mamoswine has problems with. Ice Shard will net a 3HKO, so I go ahead, knowing that there's probably not much else I can do.

Mamoswine used Ice Shard.
Azelf lost 35% of its health.
Azelf used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around the foe's team!

- 100%

He gets the rocks up, and I get to blast him with Ice Shard. Hopefully he Taunts me next turn, I don't want to lose Mamo's sash just yet. Another round of Ice Shard is in order here.

PI-Dimension switched in Jirachi (lvl 100 Jirachi).
Mamoswine used Ice Shard.
It's not very effective...
Jirachi lost 10% of its health.
Jirachi's leftovers restored its health a little!
Jirachi restored 6% of its health.

- 100%
- 96%

Switching to Jirachi is a smart move, it allows him to have Azelf to put the rocks up again if I spin them away, and it also allows him to save its Explosion for something else. Jirachi is a problem. I don't know its exact set, the Leftovers recovery tells me that its one of five probable sets, so it could be carrying pretty much anything. I'll use Earthquake to scout it, much as I hate to sacrifice Mamo without him doing much of anything, I know he won't be of much use against Jirachi otherwise.

Jirachi used Iron Head.
It's super effective!
Mamoswine lost 76% of its health.
Mamoswine flinched!
Jirachi's leftovers restored its health a little!
Jirachi restored 4% of its health.

- 24%
- 100%

Ok, that narrows it down. Iron Head means that it's either a SubParaFlinch annoyer, or it's a Wish Supporter. The ammount of damage that it did points me in the direction of the latter. So, Jirachi proves that it's definitely in the trifecta of the most annoying Pokemon in OU (with Breloom and Machamp) by haxing Mamo. I can already tell that this little fairy is going to be the bane of my existence during this battle.

No surprises there, as Mamo falls without doing a thing. Smartest thing to do here would be to switch in Rotom-H, who resists Iron Head and carries Will-O-Wisp, to threaten Jirachi.

Eon King switched in Rotom-h (lvl 100 Rotom-h).

Oh joy, a Celebi. Seeing as it's not carrying Leftovers and it's being used with Wish Jirachi, I'm going to assume that it's the Tinkerbell set for now. I'll stay in and try to hit it with Shadow Ball while it T-Waves me. My Blissey has Heal Bell, so I can easily get rid of it later.

Ok, that didn't work out as I'd hoped. T-Wave more or less proves that it's the Tink set, so I'll switch to Blissey to mop up the incoming Leaf Storm.

Hehe, go blobby pink fatso of doom. Even a hit like that can't do all that much to Blissey. I'll use Heal Bell now and rid Rotom of its paralysis. His Celebi is either going to switch or use Recover/Rest, and I'm betting on the second.

Bingo, as expected, he heals off damage while I get rid of status. I'll use Seismic Toss now, hopefully hitting whatever he switches in for more than 25% damage. No sense in spraying Toxic at something I can't predict.

Oh excellent, a Flygon. Since ScarfGon is the most common variant these days, I assume this one is as well. This is too perfect, I can switch in Skarmory unhindered and get up at least one layer of Spikes.

EDIT: PK Gaming has alerted me to the fact that it's actually holding a Choice Band.

Bittersweet results from this turn. I get up the first layer of Spikes like I wanted, but his Outrage ended this turn, meaning that my setup ends here. I could just throw up another layer of Spikes while waiting for his switch-in, but I'd like to get those Rocks off the field, they'll be cramping Infernape's style later on.

Eon King switched in Starmie (lvl 100 Starmie).

Holy mother of Gamefreak, it's a Jolteon. That is decidedly not good, I don't have a single Pokemon that can revenge it, and my Blissey can't keep taking repeated hits from the thing with the damage it already took from Celebi's Leaf Storm. All I can do for now is switch in and hope that he pivots to something more friendly to my team.

Oh? Interesting...

What's interesting, you ask? Well, you'll just have to wait until the third last turn of the battle to find out. Don't jump ahead, you'll ruin the surprise!

Anyway, my next move is Wish. Yeah, I have both Wish and Heal Bell on my Blissey. Suck it, breeding restrictions. That'll hopefully heal Blissey enough to take a few more T-Bolts from Jolty.

PI-Dimension switched in Azelf (lvl 100 Azelf).

The switch to Azelf confused me somewhat. I thought he'd be using Explosion here, but then I realized that he'd be expecting that and use Taunt, preventing my Rotom-H from spamming Will-O-Wisp if it switched in. So, I hung in and used Seismic Toss. As it turned out, my reasoning was flawed due to one simple factor.

Azelf used Trick.
Azelf obtained Leftovers!
Blissey obtained Choice Scarf!

Yep, his Azelf is a TrickScarfer, and I just walked right into his trap. Ugh. At least there are two positives from this. Blissey is now healed, and he has no other option on Azelf other than to use Explosion, meaning that now I can switch in Rotom and watch him die in vain.

Making this decision wasn't an easy one, not by a long shot. I knew that if I wanted to survive battling with his Jolteon, I needed Blissey at full or near full Hp, since it's Scarfed and will now have a hell of a time with healing itself. So, I simply decided to sacrifice Rotom, letting Leaf Storm's backlash phaze Celebi for me.

SkarmBliss, lol. I love how much it frustrates my opponents at times. The bad news is that Blissey got paralyzed, the good news is that Natural Cure will get rid of it when I switch again. Seismic Toss is my next move, lathering on some extra damage.

Phew, that was tense. I'm walking a tightrope to finish off three of his Pokemon by the time I'm left with only one, for the reason I figured out when Jolteon first attacked Blissey. With Blissey Scarfed, I'm struggling to prevent the loss of its health while using it to block Jolteon as best I can.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure he'll switch to Jolteon and use the Wish to heal it. It's not the best move he could make, but he knows that I'm trying to wall Jolteon for some reason, so he wants to keep it has healthy as possible, which is reasonable. That gives me two more turns to use Seismic Toss before I switch.

Perfect. This has ended up almost exactly as I planned it from Turn XIII, which is the turn my opponent's luck ran out. On that turn, when his Jolteon hit my Blissey with Thunderbolt, I figured out how to beat him. His Jolteon is fast, and it even hit Blissey for 25% damage. So, that led me to a single conclusion: His Jolteon is Modest Natured. A Timid LO Jolteon would never be able do 25% damage to a Max Hp Blissey, its damage output caps out at 23.1%, wheras with Modest the max damage output is 25.2%. So why does that matter? Simple, it means that my Timid Expert Belt Starmie with Max Speed outpaces his Modest Jolteon by 2 points. So now, I have an 80% chance to win this with an assured OHKO from Hydro Pump.

+Props and Slops+

Props:

PI-Dimension: For having the guts to use some very risky moves and strategies. Also, props for using Modest Jolteon, even though it was your undoing.

Timid Starmie: For being faster than neutral natured Base 130's, the key to winning this match.

The Whole Jolteon Scenario: For happening on Turn 13, giving me an excellent title for this warstory.

Slops:

Mamoswine: For being a tool. He only allowed me to figure out Jirachi's moveset before dying.

Azelf: For blowing up in the face of my Rotom.

Jirachi: For general douchbaggery.

Cheers folks, hopefully you enjoyed this. Until next time!

I liked this warstory. Your knowledge of the metagame is apparent and you played fairly well. I wish your opponent had played a bit better (really that double-switch was the only non-predictable thing he did) but regardless this was a good warstory.

Overall this was a good warstory. Picking up on Jolteon being modest was smart, but still, you made some dumb moves. I feel like you played your Mamoswine horribly, but oh well.

hey look it's me :)

If you're wondering why I was running modest, I meant to run timid, but I guess my (slow) computer didn't recognize the t and the i :(

Oh well, it was a great game. I must say, I forgot about rotom when I boomed :)

Also,

"I wish your opponent had played a bit better (really that double-switch was the only non-predictable thing he did) but regardless this was a good warstory."

>>

Some comments from me:

Near the beginning, when it was Celebi vs Rotom, I was going to fire off a leaf storm, but was afraid of a scizor ><. (Leaf Storm OHKOs Rotom, unless you're weird and run like max SpD)

"I thought he'd be using Explosion here, but then I realized that he'd be expecting that and use Taunt, preventing my Rotom-H from spamming Will-O-Wisp if it switched in. So, I hung in and used Seismic Toss. As it turned out, my reasoning was flawed due to one simple factor."

I thought, might as well cripple blissey, and then explode on something. I completely forgot about Rotom X____X.

Thanks for the compliments. And yes, I wish he had too, but his team was made so that prediction was made easier. He's probably not used to having to predict that much.

Heh, when I saw 25% I was like "Hmm, is that even right? Is that thing Modest?". Really enjoyed this warstory
Nice job picking up on that. Thanks.

Overall this was a good warstory. Picking up on Jolteon being modest was smart, but still, you made some dumb moves. I feel like you played your Mamoswine horribly, but oh well.
Yeah, early to mid game wasn't exactly a shining time for me in that match. Glad you still think it's good.

Great warstory, i really enjoyed it.
Thanks.

hey look it's me :)

If you're wondering why I was running modest, I meant to run timid, but I guess my (slow) computer didn't recognize the t and the i :(

Oh well, it was a great game. I must say, I forgot about rotom when I boomed :)
Lol, indeed it is.

Oh, I thought you ran modest for more power, lol. So I basically won because your computer was slow... ouch.

Thanks, and lol.

Yeah. The weird thing is, neutral 115s outspeed positive 100s (my trickzelf is actually adamant, since then u-turn is an OHKO on lead celebi always, and i don't usually worry about other 115 leads since I have scarf), but neutral 130s lose to positive 115s!

Yeah, natures make a bigger difference in higher speed tiers.

The 15 base jump starts to occur at 110 --> 125.

Nice warstory i really liked the way you sealed the win :P
i would never be able to figure the nature of a pokemon just from the damage output xD
Nice job, nice battle, nice commentary 9/10

why didn't you switch to rotom on the second iron head and save yourself some death fodder/a revenge killer? I'll post more when I finish, but from turn 3 you made a mistake.
Why did you reveal the match outcome so early? Now I know you win.

Nevertheless, a good warstory.

The only thing I consider misplayed is during the Mamoswine thing at the begining. NOT that you didn't switch out (Death fodder or not, Mamoswine wouldn't have been able to switch in due to SR.), but that you didn't IS on the turn it died.

Great battle and warstory though. Revieling you will win early might put some off, but you realise that his train of thought was probubly similar to that anyway.

Wow... dude I love your style of writing. Nice title tie in too.
It was a good battle too.

PS: That Flygon was Choice Band. How did I know? It dealt over 20% with Outrage, something only possible with Choice Band.

Mamo takes 12% from rocks, not 25%

Hello all. I believe you should recognize me from Felerial's warstory Down to the Wire! That's right, I'm Eon King.

This battle was a random ladder match, but it was also an intense battle and although not quite as close as my battle with Felerial, it's still an excellent match.

Ok, my bravado aside, I calculate that his Celebi will have 54% health left after the Spikes damage. Worried, I pull a Felerial and do a quick calc of Ice Beam's damage output. 52.1% - 61.9% damage.
... Wait, holy crap, if Ice Beam rolls twoard minimum damage, Celebi's Leaf Storm will make everything I've done thus far worth absolutely nothing! Will RNG save the day?

Needless to say, I feel really honored for the plug in your Warstory. I also laughed quite a bit at the "Pull a Felerial", hahaha.

It was a good warstory, and you took the time to put pics and percentages completely which is leaps and bounds better than what most others do (Just slap a log on with some comments and call it a day.).

Keep it up dude! I hope to find you on Ladder again soon =)

I woulda done the same thing. Ice shards damage woulda been miniscule, and it could have tried to setup or something thinking you would ice shard. Minimizing risks.

A very nice warstory which shows your top-notch knowledge of the meta game. Goes to show how important team building if you want to be successful. IIRC it was due to your +speed venasaur outsppeding my Croak that you beat me when i played against you xD.

Thanks, it was fun. And lol, don't worry, it took me eight solid months of practice before I got to be this good.

I overpredicted. I was afraid he'd expect the switch and use T-Wave on my next Pokemon. Ya, revealing that I'd win was probably a mistake, but meh. Thanks.

I stopped reading after you left Mamo in to die to Iron Head when you had both Rotom and Skarmory. But then I came back later and decided to read and I found out it was a fairly decent warstory.
Haha, fair enough. Thanks.

See my comment to Uberiffic, I thought he'd expect the switch and T-Wave, leaving me free to hit it with Earthquake. It's what I would've probably done in his situation. And yes, mamo would've been able to switch back in, it only takes 12% from SR.
Yeah, that probably put some people off, but oh well.

Thanks, always love the compliments.

Oh, really? Huh, funny, I must've clicked Choice Band by mistake when I ran the calc. Thanks, I'll edit that in.

Haha, I couldn't resist, that was such a good battle. And I knew you'd laugh at that.

Of course, I didn't get good enough to beat people on the leaderboard by half-assing whatever I do, lol.

Thanks, and same here. If you want to find me, UU is a more likely bet, I'm more of a UU player than an OU player, not to mention a lot better.

I woulda done the same thing. Ice shards damage woulda been miniscule, and it could have tried to setup or something thinking you would ice shard. Minimizing risks.
Exactly, nice to see that you figured it out.

Thanks a lot, it's not often I get compliments like this around here. Exactly, you have to build a team that not only works as a unit, but also fits your battle style. And lol, that happened not twenty minutes ago on the UU ladder, that was a good match.

One of the few examples where the player has ultilised Blissey effectively (something that I can't). Eon Certainly uses it as a special wall, but not just "I need one so there it is". People like me usually get fooled by the fact that Blissey walls everything special and ignore the references of +spA and +spe difference, something that is quite noticable on the physical side. I thought the beginning is a bit meh but the warstory is brilliant. Well planned victory (80% chance?)

If Jolteon is Timid then the whole thing is different, as it would outspeed Starmie but has less power. But then you might not be so careful then.

Loved your warstory! Found it pretty cool to figure jolteon's nature.
Also, found interesting you did not despair over haxy paralisis... although you risked yourself on the rapid spin..

Oh well, congrats on the win :)
