I just wanted to point out that the server is spelled "Smogon Univeristy" and not "Smogon University."

It might be because of the other servers imitating SU.

It's really misspelt on the actual server, unless you mean some other jackass took the properly-spelt Smogon University name while we were down.

I'm pretty sure it's just a typo. There were no other actual Smogon University servers. I might be wrong though.
