Sub Seed Ferrothorn is fun to use, or just substitute with a hazard move, curse or bulldoze. The hazards Ferrothorn provides might just be too good to give up though.

Anything that tries to scald it fails and doesn't break the sub. Its obviously walled by Heatran, etc, but can be an annoyance to something like incoming Terrakion. A lot of rain teams only have 1 or 2 Pokemon who can 1v1 Ferrothorn, so it is really effective against rain, especially if they cant burn it.

Hey wanted to post a set I used when Genesect was around (not sure if it got banned yet). I was making a rain team and I put on physical piviot Jirachi for SR and for that Dragon counter. I ran BS and IH, and ran SR ofc. For the last move, I had the option between running U-turn, Wish, Healing Wish, and other useless stuff. I found that extra coverage attack (U-turn, TPunch, etc.) kinda sucked. HW almost never got used, though it was decent insurance for Gatyr. Wish kind of was okay, but I found myself never using it. Then I read Gimmicks post on TWave and BS issues, and I found my rain team a bit weak to +2 LO Venusaur. So I made this set that counters Genesect and Venu in or not in rain. Tell me your thoughts!

    Jirachi @ Occa Berry
    Trait: Serene Grace
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 38 Hp / 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 216 Spe

    ~ Stealth Rock
    ~ Iron Head
    ~ Body Slam
~ Thunder Wave / Fire Punch

Fire Punch is nice outside of rain, but it;s still kind inferior to TWave + BSlame core. This set ALWAYS paralyzes the opponent, which makes a great denter / piviot. It gets rock, has that steel typing (which eally helps) and it easily beats Venu or Gene. Occa Berry protects it from +2 HP Fire, and +1 Modest Flamethrower outside of rain with LO no longer KOs (in case people spam hail Starmie or if Gene is in another weather since its amazing in every weather). He's a very nice piviot and glue to any team and easily counters half the metagame without rain. Hope you enjoy ~

Hey guys, for a long time now I've found that Forretress is a pretty lackluster pokemon. That is, it seems that it tries to do too much: you try to set up Spikes and/or SR, as well as trying to Spin - and in the meanwhile, you're set-up bait for everything in existence. Worse, no form of recovery hinders your ability to repeatedly Rapid Spin, some of the common hazard setters in the tier don't really mind Forretress (i.e., Ferrothorn, Deoxys-D) and Spinblockers (Jellicent + Gengar) deal with you pretty easily. So, I had an idea: What if, instead of trying to fulfill heaps of different roles all at once, you specialised? Say, you forgo hazards altogether and make Forretress a Full-Time Spinner? It seems a massive shame to do this, but it also has the potential to make Forry far better at Spinning, which should be it's primary job anyway (as otherwise Ferrothorn outclasses it). I was thinking something like this:

    Forretress @Leftovers
    Sturdy
    Relaxed - 252 HP/ 176 Def / 80 Sp. Def
    -Rapid Spin
    -Gyro Ball
    -Earthquake/ Volt Switch
    -Toxic/ Pain Split

The given EVs are just from the standard Forry set. Basically, Rapid Spin is the key player here as discussed above. Taking hazards out of it's moveset though allows Forretress to run more coverage, and therefore isn't setup bait so much. Gyro Ball is obligatory STAB, and hits Gengar (spinblocker) hard, while Earthquake nails Magnezone (and Tentacruel too, for that matter). You could run Volt Switch here, but I feel like the ability to outright kill Magnezone is kind of better than a super weak Volt Switch - VS does let you scout your opponent though. Finally, Toxic lets you hit Jellicent (other primary spinblocker of OU) on the switch, as well as just letting you get in on some statusing shenanigans. However, Pain Split is a really good move over this as well - the recovery is unreliable, but it will almost certainly help Forretress live - and thus spin - for longer.

So - Dedicated spinner set. Good idea or bad idea? I have no idea myself; this was just something I thought of, so now I'm off to test it :3

Forry is pretty much known for being the only spinner with access to all hazards. That's his niche. Coverage is fine, but Ferro hits harder already, and if magnezone comes in the trap, I highly doubt you will live the HP Fire coming your way unless it is raining, and I seriously doubt you will outspeed even the slowest Magnezone while running max BP Gyroball EVs/IVs.

    Hallo everyone.
Mew is often used as a support in the most teams and this set is used to surprise your opponent by blasting away one or two of there pokemons as they assume it's a support.
Mew's offensive movepool is amazing. Where most pokemons have to use hidden power to cover something Mew don't have that problem as it can learn any tm and move tutor (except draco metreor) from gen 3 and forward.

So here's set on stage Gimmick Killer Mew

    Mew @ Life Orb
    Synchronize
    EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
    Naive Nature
    - Fire Blast
    - Ice Beam
    - Superpower
    - Giga Drain/Energy Ball/Thunderbolt/Thunder

This movepool is used for maximum coverage.
Fire blast (in rain) always ohko 248/8 Scizor without stealth rock and deals 79-94% of 252/252+ Forretress health.
Ice beam is ice beam and it hits all dragons hard (bar Kindra)
Superpower takes care of things like Heatran and Tyranitar realy hard, unless they invests in defence and hp.
the last slot is up to you. giga drain heals you and hits water types for plenty of damage. energy ball hits slightly harder but don't heal you.
thunderbolt can be used for more for more power and hits everything bar gastrodon hard. thunder should be used on a rain team.

Gimmick killer Mew loves slower and/or paralyzed foes as they can just be taken care of. Mew also like support in form of wish so it can keep on killing stuff. Jirachi is great partner as it can abuse wish and T-wave or body slam.

Priority moves and faster hardhitting foes will be your doom. The best way of taking care of Mew is by revenge killing it but that can be hard without persuit as you can just switch out. Hazards and status problems is something Mew hates as it limits it life spawn every time it switches in.
A missprediction from your side and you will find yourself in tought spot so good prediction is needed.

Give it some love and it can shine with the right support.

Rain was very prominent in the Suspect ladder of Round 8 voting, so I decided to make a team that would do well against it. In said team (which was full Trick Room), I utilized a very interesting option of Slowking--Nasty Plot Trick Room.

    SLOWKING (M) @ Leftovers
    Ability:
    Regenerator
    EVs: 248 HP / 252 SAtk / 8 SDef
    IVs: 0 Spe
    Nature: Quiet (+SAtk, -Spd)
Moveset: Trick Room | Nasty Plot | Psyshock | Surf

Slowking has the ability to set up on very common rain threats, such as Keldeo or Specs Politoed, and proceed to either sweep or switch out to preserve HP. Regenerator is a blessing to have for a Trick Room sweeper so it can continually come in and set up for the rest of the team (or even just itself). I tried it out on a non-Trick-Room team and it worked pretty nicely, especially late game. Slowbro was considered one of Keldeo's "checks" awhile ago, but Slowking is nearly a counter. There's only about a 50% chance for a rain boosted Specs Hydro Pump to 2HKO: 252 SpAtk Choice Specs Keldeo-R Hydro Pump in Rain vs 248 HP/8 SpDef Slowking: 50.89% - 60.05% (2-3 hits to KO). Scarf Keldeo is what I've seen lately, though; and it's complete set-up fodder. With Rain up, it can even OHKO Tornadus-T after SR without any boosts. It's more powerful than it looks. And when it gets a Nasty Plot up, your opponent knows they're about to lose half their team.

I have a replay, but it's not exactly the best example. I mean, Cosmic Power Jirachi. But still:

I have thought about a Tentacruel Anti-Weather set. Suprisingly, it works!

    Tentacruel (F) @ Black Sludge
    Trait: Liquid Ooze
    EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spd
    Bold Nature
    - Whirlpool
    - Rapid Spin
    - Hail
    - Scald

    Method of work:
    1. Trap Politoed/Ninetales with Whirlpool
    2. Summon Hail
    3. Spam Scald until the opponent dies (dont forget, the opponent has passive damage from hail, whirlpool and maybe even scald burn)

Also, works on Ferrothorn due to Liquid Ooze (Leech Seed backfires.. hard).
Favourite use of the set: use Whirlpool on Politoed while he uses Perish Song thus Perish-Trapping itself ;)

The EV's are quite bad if you think about it. Politoed/Ninetales are special...
Dont have an idea why the EV's are like that, but it works so who cares :)
Also, I need those def points due to my team build.

Here is a fairly bad example, but I dont save my replays often:

You may be disappointed but Whirlpool is not available in the 5th gen and mons with VM moves cannot be transferred to the next gen. Both Tentacruel and Politoed loose this move.
Viable defensive mons with whirlpool in this generation are Empoleon and Swampert.

Edit: Loophole abuse; ha, that one is good. I was waiting for this one for a long time. Thanks for that.

If you trade in to D/P/Pt, Whirlpool is no longer an HM and can be transferred.

Magmortar has a Use in OU with all the Amoongus and Brelooms running around

    Magmortar @ Life orb
    Ability: Vital Spirit
    Nature: Modest

    128 HP/252 SpA/ 128 Spe or 94 HP / 252 SpA / 164 Spe to outspeed timid 252 Spe Starmie after flame charge

    Flame Charge
    Fire Blast/ Heatwave
    Hidden Power Fighting/ Ice
    Thunder bolt

simply put, vital spirit is a rather overlooked ability which can be incredibly useful in this meta game to counter Breloom and Amoongus. After 1 flame charge Mag sits at 350 Speed, allowing him to outspeed majority of the non scarfed meta game and unleash his 125 Base SpA havoc with powerful STAB and coverage

Some calcs in non weather (with Fire Blast and HP fighting instead of Ice). It's a rather long list since I used the mass damage calc >_<

    Magmar @ Eviolite

    Nature: Modest
    214 HP/ 252 SpA/ 44 spe

    Flame Charge
    Fire Blast/ Heatwave
Clear Smog/ Sunny Day (to catch a potential weather switch in off guard)
    Hidden Power Ice/Fighting

Having trouble finding a defensive calc for Magmar. the mass damage one on this site doesn't have him listed :/

Here is a set that really has fallen off the map but has a great oppurtunity to return with Genesect gone.

    Salamence (M) @ Life Orb
    Trait: Intimidate
    EVs: 64 Atk / 192 SAtk / 252 Spd
    Rash Nature
    - Draco Meteor
    - Outrage
    - Earthquake
    - Fire Blast / Hydro Pump

Very few things in OU that aren't Steel-types can tank one of Salamence's Dragon STAB's, that list with STAB's from both sides of the spectrum becomes zip (especially with coverage). Very few people expect Salamence to run Draco Meteor, so physical tanks like Hippowdon and Landorus-T feel safe from any attempt from Salamence. IMO Intimidate>Moxie on Mixmence since it allows it to capitalize a lot on the popularity of Breloom. In addition, it means you can get more attacks off by lessening damage on the switch-in. This is important because Mixmence is very sensitive to residual damage. Often times I find that the extra power from Moxie just does not get used because most opponents response to Mixmence is to revenge kill because of its unpredictable coverage and (of course) things that can tank an Outrage are still hit pretty hard by EQ or even -2 Fire Blast. I would also using a Rash Nature too, the extra power is extremely helpful for gaining damage against the opponent.

    192 SpA Life Orb Salamence Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Gliscor: 320-378 (90.39 - 106.77%) -- 43.75% chance to OHKO
    192+ SpA Life Orb Salamence Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Gliscor: 352-415 (99.43 - 117.23%) -- 93.75% chance to OHKO

    192 SpA Life Orb Salamence Draco Meteor vs. 196 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 304-359 (82.6 - 97.55%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
    192+ SpA Life Orb Salamence Draco Meteor vs. 196 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 333-394 (90.48 - 107.06%) -- 43.75% chance to OHKO

    192 SpA Life Orb Salamence Draco Meteor vs. 184 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-W: 239-282 (83.27 - 98.25%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
    192+ SpA Life Orb Salamence Draco Meteor vs. 184 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-W: 263-309 (91.63 - 107.66%) -- 43.75% chance to OHKO

Specially Defensive Forretress is a great spinner to pair with Mence, since it can Volt Switch to get Salamence in for free and it can most importantly provide Spikes to put even more pressure on the opponent's switches. Hitmontop and Landorus-T are also really cool partners too since it forms an Intimidate pair to really mitigate the opponent's physical attacker's. Hitmontop can spin for Mence while Landorus-T can benefit from Salamence's removal of physical tanks (but it sucks it shares a 4x Ice weakness :[ )

edit: forgot to mention that hydro pump was meant to be used on rain teams because they are the shit right now. Tornadus-T+Intimidate MixMence is devastating

Moxie should get consideration, as it helps so much with feigning Mence's set. Intimidate pretty much gives away that Mence is mixed or DD (which usually has Fblast), while with Moxie you can feign a Choice Scarf and then nail them with appropriate coverage move. Also just wondering what Hydro Pump really hits that Draco Meteor / Fire Blast / Earthquake doesn't hit already. Only things that really come to mind are things like Hippowdon, but even that can be handled by a combination of its other moves. Is it mainly used for the possibility of rain or something?

    EDIT:
    calc vs glisc (open)

    Detailed Result:
192 SpAtk Life Orb Salamence Draco Meteor vs 252 HP/0 SpDef Gliscor: 90.68% - 106.78%
    43.75% chance to OHKO

Good chance to OHKO Gliscor. But yea idk, I wouldn't trade the coverage Fire Blast gives for just Air Balloon tran and sp def Hippowdon.

Rock Tomb cant OHKO Tornadus-T, Thundurus-T or Landorus-T while Stone Edge can. The only reason why you would want to use a Rock move is the super effective vs Fly who resist both STAB moves. Stone Edge just makes your revenge killing window of oportunity way bigger.

Absolutely no need whatsoever to use Hasty/Naive. Your attack stat doesn't matter at all unless you want to throw on explosion. Hidden power grass is alternative to hit gastro, or hp electric for gyara but this choice obviously depends on the rest of the team. Even Dragon Pulse is an option to hit Latis a bit harder. Definitely recommend this set though catches a lot of people off guard and can win games. Also this set has probably been posted on this thread 100 times already but whatever.

Whenever I want Toxic Spikes this is what I use:

The reason why he is the best Toxic Spiker (unless you want a very bulky one like Forretress) is his ridiculous speed. He can outspeed everything except for a few things (some Scarfers, 3/4 pokes if they go +Spe and obviously Priority).

Whenever you see them not having a Spiner or a PSN on their team you can sacrifice him in order to get 2 Toxic Spikes on their team. Any stall/semi-stall team can profit a lot out of this.

That set of EVs and IVs means any hit will trigger Sash. Under Sash you can Endeavor anything to 1 hp easily (again, thanks to that godly speed), giving you a nice suicide lead that trades 1x1 and gives you 1 layer of Toxic out of it.

If they have a PSN on their team you just go for Sword Dance, get Sashed, trigger Swarm and start hitting like a truck with your 120 STAB Swarm Megahorn. Of course the first priority move will simply stomp you but if you make a proper switch you can save your Scolipede and use him as your revenge killer (he doesnt lose his speed or swarm). Obviously dont do this if there is SR up and a miss from that 85 acc move will cost you your Scolipede.

    Random examples:
    vs Ferrothorn +Def 252 HP 88 Def: 86.9% - 102.6%
    vs Politoed +Def 252 HP 252 Def: 103.1% - 121.4%

MixMence hasn't changed, Genesect or not. I used MixMence back in the Genesect metagame and it was still widely successful. Can't say it's really underrated since it's not unusual nor do people not really fear it.

    Scizor (F) @ Metal Coat
    Trait: Technician
    EVs: 180 HP / 252 Atk / 76 Spd
    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - U-turn
    - Superpower
    - Bullet Punch
    - Pursuit
This is more less a Choice Bluffing set that I have used to great success. Most of the time I use it as my lead acting like I am Choice Band Scizor(or Scarf lol)to gain momentum early on in the game as most players switch to a Pokemon that resist Scizors moves like Skarmory or Gliscor and U-Turn will not give a dead giveaway that I'm Choiced. This set is good at making Gengar,Latias, Latios have a false sense of security if they have substitute and lack Hidden Power Fire as Bullet punch can break all of their Subs and will be forced to switch to avoid taking a heavy hit, which this is where Pursuit comes into play as have managed to trap multiple Gengars, Latias, and Latios because of this little "Trick" I guess you can say. 76 speed evs allow you to outspeed even 100 speed ev Choice Banded Tyranitar which can allow you to either Superpower or U-Turn without no fear of Tyranitar out speeding this type of Scizor. Oh and one Quick note this set can also make Lucario have a false sense of security if it switch to Bullet punch and tries to set up(My Friend Fabian Proved this by using a Scizor with Metal Coat).

Hydro Pump is mostly used to capitilize on how common perement rain is, and it still hurts Steel types a lot in the rain too (besides Ferrothorn).

It was underrated in that everyone dropped Mence's other sets in order to capitilize on beating scarf gene @+1 with Scarfmence or DDmence. For something that is so feared and effective, it sure isn't represented (rated) by its usage stats or popularity.

Forretress --*Sturdy | Bold | Leftovers
    240 HP | 216 Def | 52 SAtk
Spikes | Rapid Spin | Volt Switch | Hidden Power Ice

This set is really great for teams that are weak to physical dragons and CB outrage spam. Forretress has great physical bulk to tank outrages, but it can't do much back to dragons. I Hidden Power Ice is the trump card here. It 2HKOs threats like Gliscor and Landorus as well as the every 4X weak dragon. This means that it can easily overcome big threats while securing a kill. I find this set incredibly useful on sun teams who usually have trouble with stuff like CB Dragonite and Rock Polish Landorus (Landorus can KO with Earth Power, but volt switch is usually predicted when they come in so you can HP ice predicting that and 2HKO or predict the RP.

All in all a great set and lure and I would really recommend anyone to try it out

    Deoxys-D
    @ Mental Herb | Pressure

    Timid | 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Skill Swap | Taunt | Stealth Rock | Spikes

Through the use of a Mental Herb and Skill Swap, Deoxys-D can effective beat almost all of its common "stops" in one set. Skill Swap is a very underrated move, especially for Deoxys-D teams that lack a way to beat opposing Magic Bounce users (lacking Pursuit, basically), because you pretty much are guaranteed a win versus teams utilizing Magic Bounce in an attempt to beat Deoxys-D. Skill Swap may seem specialized at first; however, Skill Swap has some other added benefits as well which may not be so obvious. For example: a Ninetales leads and goes into Venusaur in attempts to set up versus your team, Skill Swap effectively neuders Venusaur's speed and makes it a non-threat. Dragonite loses his Multiscale versus your Deoxys-D, Jirachi can even lose its annoying flinch-hax through Skill Swap. It's actually quite the useful move! With a Mental Herb and Taunt, you are guaranteed to beat opposing Terrakion leads which Magic Coat doesn't provide. It also can help aid in not allowing your opponent to set up. The downfall to this set is opposing Magic Coat Deoxys-D, but that's really rare. I really recommend this set, you should try it out! It's a great lead in many Hyper Offensive teams.

Amazing set that I should try someday. Do you think that this gem can be used in a stall team by using recover instead of stealth rock so it can recover its health? Also if I use it on a stall team, can I trade some speed for more bulk without getting crippled by other taunt users? (unless I manage to get magic bounce)
