Ok this week is over and man did we have a big turnout for the fireburd, Moltres. We had a total of 9 entries and because we had so many it was so hard to pick a winner. That is why there are two, you heard me, TWO winners this week. Duskt had an amazing description of not only why Mega Ampharos beats some of the common checks to Moltres, but how each pokemon can wear each others checks down and proceed to chip away at the opposing team. Hogg swooped in with a last minute entry of Tentacruel, bringing up a ton of facts about Moltres and advertising the core like a wise entrepreneur on QVC. That's right. UU's most infamous versatile Psychic is here to figure out who pairs up with her well and who doesn't. Choice Specs Meloetta is a pretty powerful wallbreaker. It can easily OHKO or 2HKO a decent portion of the tier, and those that it can't, can lure out and U-turn out. However, both of Meloetta's STABs have immunities - Ghost and Dark types - which give this thing trouble. Krookodile, Hydreigon, Chandelure, as well as Steel types which it struggles to break with the inconsistent Focus Blast are namely what it struggles with most. This set uses U-turn to its advantage, as it lures out these Pokemon to go to one that can beat all of them...

Infernape @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 228 Atk / 28 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Grass Knot

This Infernape set breaks what Meloedon't. It crushes Steel types like Empoleon, Mega Aggron, Forretress, Bronzong and Escavalier for Meloetta, OHKOs Umbreon, lures and OHKOs Chandelure, and beats non scarf variants of Krookodile and Hydreigon. Beating Krookodile is especially important as it can easily Pursuit trap Meloetta. These two have good offensive synergy that allow them to wear down and break many teams apart with their fantastic neutral and super effective coverage. Breaking down each others checks allows for DESTRUCTION to occur while your opponent tries to stop the terror of two. Even their defensive synergy isn't bad as Meloetta takes Psychic attacks for Infernape while Infernape can switch in on weak Bug and Dark type moves for Meloetta. All in all, it's a pretty good pairing.

Since I joined the Alliance League, I've been experimenting a LOT with Mono-Normal and have discovered a lot of fun ways and unique traits that Meloetta has.

- Dazzling Gleam/Energy Ball/Psychic Zen Headbutt
- Thunderbolt/Energy Ball

This is a VERY versatile and offensive Meloetta. Her Coverage and decent bulk gives her the ability to hit hard and cause decent status effect with Serene Grace. Relic Song Stab and form change gives her the ability to potentially sleep opponents while dealing great STAB damage, Then form change allowing her to get outstanding damage with Close Combat. As for the 3rd move slot, at first I thought Dazzling gleam would be a great way to provide good coverage, but ultimately decided on Either Psychic for good Sp.Atk damage, or Zen Headbutt for Serene Grace Flinch hax. As for the 4th move slot, I originally planned for Flying/Water check, but figured it would be best to check the more notable bulky waters like Suicune and Swampert. Energy Ball gives her an amazing ability to hit hard and decrease Sp.Def, allowing her to..well....Hit harder.....

Rotom Provides all the coverage Meloetta needs. WoW to drop the Atk of anything that might be able to cripple her, Pain-split allows him to soften anything she might not be able to OH/2Hko, and it's ability to Volt turn into Melo makes them that much more of a solid pairing. I don't only think this is a good Meloetta pairing, but I generally see this as the start of a very solid and potentially great UU core! Two of my favorite Pokemon paired together to create a nice current in battle!

Specs Meloetta is a beast. Hitting from a huge SpA of 128 and targeting either defensive or specially defensive side is dangerous. But what does this Meloetta lose to?
For starters, Ghost types will be hard to beat because it starts a 50/50 and you might be on the losing end of it. The best switchin for Meloetta is Doublade, which resists both Focus Blast and Hyper Voice, and eats Psyshocks. Steel Types are hard to beat as well because Focus Blast misses 70% of the time are common. Ghosts such as Chandelure, Shedinja, Doublade, Cofagrigus and such. So the best play is to U-Turn out luring them to this monster:

Houndoom, once getting a safe switch into a ghost, will force them out, set Nasty Plot and wallbreak the opponent's team. Fire Blast hits like a truck and at +2, rip life. Same goes for Dark Pulse. Fire Blast deals with steels while Dark Pulse deals with Ghost. I don't think Sludge Bomb is necessary because Fairies get bopped by +2 Fire Blast anyways, and Meloetta takes care of them. So Sucker Punch is used just to surprise any weak scarf Revenge Killers. It also has a good synergy with Meloetta, absorbing Dark moves for Melo while Melo tanks Scalds, Mach Punches and such.

Anyways, this week's matchmaking victim I already knew what it would be and that was one of the drops. The problem was deciding which one would be fun to find partners for and that is when I decided on the behemoth that is...

This guy, while new to UU, has already made its huge presence known and as such thought it would be a good pick for this week.

Stealth Rocks allows pokemon to be slightly softer for Mamoswine to murder. Toxic neuters staller's such as Suicune, and encore is always handy for making someone to what they don't need to do, over and over again.

Alright so this core is an offensive one, meant to wall break teams for fast scarfers and sweepers. Mamoswine uses its psuedo resistance to ice to "handle" some ice types and in return salamence is specially offensive to tank hits from fire types, while not fearing burns, and roost is for recovery. Iron Tail in the third slot over outrage because faires are just great to nail, and granbull hates iron tail + fire blast. Mamoswine has knock off to cripple mons, while SR or stone edge can be ran to further support salamence in taking down fire types n such, but knock off lets it wear down its already few answers, while helping salamence.

Knock off will usually deal nearly 50% to anything that doesn't resist Dark, and with the help of Rocks and Ice Shard, very little survives.

Now, here's where the fun starts. Toxicroak not only negates the concern of Scald OHKO's, but also lures out birds for Mamo to Ice Shard into oblivion. Also having high Atk and access to priority allows Toxicroak to finish off mons that it has to switch into. Drain punch helps deal with the LO lsoe of HP, and Pursuit helps ensure punishment.


Overall, these are two mons that work extremely well together. They check each others checks while holding their own in a fight. Not only is this a good pairing for this project, but this is a solid UU core.

We add Whimsicott. Whimsicott's known, also, for its great coverage and checking multiple threats with its typing. Whimsicott can revenge kill many of the things that would threaten an OHKO on Mamoswine, such as Heracross, and check other threats like Mega Blastoise, Suicune, Krookodile, and non-boosted Feraligatr among others. What this Whimsicott set has that sets it apart from others is Prankster Stun Spore. Mamoswine often has trouble dealing with said bulkier and faster targets, more specifically Water types and revenge killers. Whimsicott, instead, can hamper their speed and make them less likely to move as well, and can pivot with U-turn, another thing Mamoswine appreciates to be brought in safely. Whimsicott just easily fits with Mamoswine in multiple ways, giving both a pivot and supporting attacker and breaks the things Mamoswine can have trouble with.

Wall breaker mamo does exactly that, breaks walls/balanced cores with its massive attack stat + life orb, and also weakens waters for sharpedo to sweep late game. it can also check scarf mence, which outspends a +1 sharpedo should that circumstance occur. mamo can also occasionally capitalize on electric type attacks aimed at sharpedo if you're feeling ballsy, while sharpedo can take like one fire attack or water attack aimed at mamo. they both weaken the others checks/counters too, for ex suicune, tangrowth, cresselia sorta, forretress, etc
Basically = Mamo breaks balanced, sharpedo breaks offense, just need band/specs breaker to complete the archetype core :]

Gatr punishes those switch-ins by threatening to put up a Sub and sweep. It breaks all of them but P2 without even really trying, and it breaks P2 pretty easily if its Eviolite gets knocked off.

I mean, I can post calcs and stuff here, but we already know what SubSD Gatr does, right? It shits on bulky threats that think they can wall Mamo. Just for fun, though, here are some pointless calcs!

With Lum Berry you can get additional boosts without any worry of Scald burns or Thunder Waves coming your way. No LO recoil means that Cresselia doesn't wear you down to the point LO recoil just beats you, instead it just lets you get to an easy +4/+6 and gives you an easier time sweeping. Crunch is there to beat the aforementioned Cresselia, and allows it so that you aren't completely helpless against the likes of Chandelure and Doublade either. Mamoswine does Lucario the favor of beating most of the checks to this particular set, EQ Mega Aerodactyl, Gligar, and Nidoqueen to name a few. Overall I found the core to be pretty fun and quite effective.

Furthermore Mamoswine deals with Heliolisk's weaknesses in Nidoqueen, Florges, Umbreon.

The core is really good and packed with a decent fighting mon, it's really hard to stop and I've used this core to peak the ladder as well n_n

Mamoswine then proceed to weaken faster threats that give yanmega trouble just like hydreigon, salamence and crobat and with u-turn yanmega can pivot through the steel types and special walls that could take its specs boosted attacks and bring mamoswine safely against them. Yanmega is pretty cool.

I had knock off on the team I had this too but stone edge or freeze-dry are other options. Dont like adding too many slashes on a set.

Trick Room Slowking is a beast, hitting really hard after trick room, while beating set up sweepers with nasty plot and hitting from both sides of defense. So what is good with this monster? Well, another monster that appreciates Trick Room as well:

This beast is a monster in Trick Room, hitting extremely hard from both sides with base 131 Atk and SpA. It also proves to a great partner to Slowking as it can check threats to Slowking such as Krookodile, Doublade, Heliolisk and checks bird, water and Dragon spam as well. It also appreciated the Trick Room boost and can sweep more with good bulk. Furthermore Slowking can check the Fire Spam it hates while this checks Grass and Dark spam Slowking hates.

Okay everyone, prepare to have your minds blown. This set was previously a secret between me and Colbrushie but in the spirit of making this community a better place I'm going to post it here. This set is something that will take your opponent off guard and force them to make mistakes. It will strike fear into their heart and make them choke on air while trying to breathe. It is a set that will sweep given a free turn and will destroy spirits given two free turns. I give you, Belly Room Slowking!

The premise behind this set is simple. Set up on something stupid like a Florges, Suicune, etc. From there you Trick Room and claim as many lives as possible. It's an amazing set and it's very good trust me. I have swept like 3 people with it so you can take my word here. Drain Punch is an option over Zen Headbutt but its tougher to get past cune and stuff if thats the case.

YABO (Chesnaught) @ Salac Berry
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
IVs: 30 HP

- Belly Drum
- Drain Punch
- Stone Edge

Okay this thing is actually good. Bring this in on Forretress and win the game. It's that simple. The HP does something like Sub + BD triggers Salac or something. Drain Punch is awesome and Sub is amazing to stop Mamo from revenging you. Both of these are walled to hell by Doublade so something like a swampert is cool as a third partner. Also, Whimsicott just ruins your life so on my team I run Special Dugtrio to kill it with Sludge Wave. Fuck that thing. Anyways, this is a great double Belly Drum core and I encourage you to win as many games as possible with it in my name. It has been a pleasure posting here and I'll see you next week.

Roserade, being the one who can set up the Spikes, can tank a ton of Special attacking hits, while utilizing its recover moves to help it stay healthy and keep stacking. It also comes in most of the mons that come in on Slowking and being able to eat Dark Pulses/Dracos (Hydreigon being most common).

Slowking is an incredible mon alongside Roserade because of its great ability to come in on fire types that come in on its partner in crime, Roserade. When it comes in on said fire types it can keep shuffling with D-Tail until the counter finally gets forced in.

These 2 are an incredible core for spike stacking teams, and I encourage anyone to use them together :]

What Slowking does for itself and Tangrowth:
*Slowking is running its most effective set in the meta game with calm mind set up. Slowking fits well on a lot of teams because of its typing and the job it does. If I want to use a physical wall that is weak to fighting, such as Porygon2, I need something bulky to take fighting hits. Most of the time you dont want two physical walls because it puts a damper on your sweep potential and makes your team look more like stall... which isn't bad but I try to go for balance. Anyway the point is that slowking makes team building very easy because it does two jobs at once; sweeps and takes heavy hit. The best thing about slowking is that its not forced to go for the slack off after taking a possible 3HKo hit. it can scald and go for the burn and if it does work out you switch and get health back. Amazing! Its one major atribute that puts it above calm mind competition such as Reunicles.
*What does slowking do for tangrowth? Well Tangrowth is a physical wall that cant take fire moves (too well), namely entei and darmanitan. Slowking matches up very well against these threats and can hit them with super effective damage. Of coarse burn sucks but its fine cause you can always switch out to get more health. Even though Tangrowth is a grass type, it doesnt fair well against offensive special water types due to fear of an ice move. Slowking relieves some pressure with being able to set up on common water types and winning the game. This does not only work for Tangrowth partner but this strategy also favors the meta. Sub cobalion sets up on this Tangrowth so slowking really helps with that being able to resist both stabs
What common pokemon does Slowking protect Tangrowth from?
Entei Infernape Nido's Suicune(Ice beam) MAerodactyl Cobalion(Sub)

What Tangrowth does for iteself and Slowking
*Tangrowth is INCREDIBLY bulky. This weed (not referring to drugs) takes on slurpuff after it BDs. Leafstorm does around 68-73% making it a possible ohko after rocks and BD. Biggest reason to use Tangrowth is that it has the potential to beat any form of feraligator and then guarantee knock it out with leaf storm. Ferg does pose a threat to slowking as its sheer force crunch hurts really bad. Tangrowth has sleep status that is a little unreliable but definatley worth it as your opponen makes his tangrowth check now a sleep fodder. HP ice ensures beating out physical Salamence. Knock off gives you something to still around plus does some good damage and does about 40 percent to beedrill. The bulk is too much. Even a flar blitz from entei isnt a guaranteed kill.
* What does tangrowth do for slowking? Slowking can take a knock off and slack off but its a risky buisness taking that damage. Tangrowth does not mind knock off too much with regen. Its typing ensues it beating out most knock off users including Mamoswine. Also slowking can set up on mons that have been put to sleep by Tangrowth. Knoff off along with scald burns wear down teams to the point where a late game sweeper can clean up fairly easy.
What common pokemon does Tangrowth protect Slowking from?
Krookodile Mamoswine(to an extent) MegaSwamp Suicune(Roar) Sceptile(Physical) Feraligator

Cobalion and Slowking​

Slowking is a Pokemon that hates Dark-Types, Grass-Types, Bug-Types, Electric-Types, and Ghost-Types. Among these types are Hydreigon, Krookodile, M-Abomasnow, M-Beedrill, Roserade, Chandelure, Heliolisk etc. If these Pokemon are still around Slowking can't Calm Mind and sweep, luckily, Cobalion checks and beats most of these Pokemon (With the exception of Chandelure and Heliolisk). Cobalion can't put in work if Pokemon like Entei, Darmanitan, Mienshao, Suicune, Gligar, and more are around. These are all Pokemon Slowking can beat with ease (As long as Suicune isn't Roar). Slowking resists Cobalion's Fire and Fighting weaknesses, two common types. Cobalion can also set Stealth Rock on your opponents field to aid Slowking in sweeping your opponents team. If Cobalion is the sweeper, Slowking can spread Scald burns and Thunder-Wave paralyses for it as well as removing faster Fire and Fighting-Types from the game. These two have problems with Chandelure, Pidgeot, and Heliolisk but those three Pokemon can be beat by Snorlax or Aerodactyl (Aerodactyl can't switch in to Heliolisk though).

Ok so this week is over and as such I had to pick a winner. As I couldn't decide on the winner this week since they were all really good submissions I copped out and picked the most liked post which happened to be the godly YABO set of Substitute + Belly Drum Chesnaught. This week, I am not particularly sure on what Pokemon I want to offer up, but I ultimately looked at the "new" stuff we have gotten recently and I decided to choose:

There's a reason why this is the most used set, three good coverage moves that hit nearly everything, except for a specific Pokemon based off a certain light fixture, Chandelure. Slurpuff can barely hurt it and Chandelure can return fire (see what I did there), OHKOing the poor puff, so we need something to take down a chandelure, and what might that be?

P1mpKr0w is here to save the muhfkn day
While Honchkrow can't switch in unless chandy goes for Shadow Ball (which it actually might), Honchkrow destroys Chandelure. Sucker Punch OHKO's Chandelure and if they want to switch out, pursuit OHKO's as well. Slurpuff also weakens Mega Aggron so Honchkrow can come through. I've tested this on many occasions and despite the fact that I'm bad at mons (like worse than Arifeen), I found the combo to work out well.
