Yup, I started turning my DS off pre-emptively as soon as I lost the battle, before it could save and before they could yank the cart out. One of the junior finalists actually had their cart break during the competition (and had to drop out as a result); given that I've never heard of a DS cart breaking before, I imagine it was a result of that rough treatment.
